Which man will Callie choose, the alien or the warrior? Or can she have both?
Resonance Mates, Book 2
For each Alvian, there is one perfect match a Resonance Mate whose soul blends in perfect harmony. Unlike the rest of his race, Davin has emotions and suffers for it. Without a mate, he is doomed to go mad. Searching for answers and understanding, he seeks out Callie O’Hara, a human woman with strong empathic gifts. Could this fragile human be his Resonance Mate?
Rick St. John is a tough-as-nails survivor of the Alvian occupation of Earth. He doesn’t believe in much, but when he sees Callie for the first time, he starts to believe in love at first sight.
The Governing Council is gunning for Davin, the upstart who dares to defy them. And they’ll kill anyone who gets in their way. Davin and Rick must come to terms with their feelings for Callie in order to keep her safe, while she has to find a way to save them both with her love.
Note: This book is intended for mature audiences. It is a menage romance, with explicit love scenes set in a possible future where aliens have taken over the Earth.
Bianca D'Arc is the USA Today bestselling author of over 100 romance titles. She has been published traditionally, by a few notable small presses, and indie. Before becoming a full-time writer, she ran a laboratory, a legal department, and jetted around the country on business while working for a Fortune 500 engineering firm.
Bianca D'Arc continues the 'Resonance Mates' series with "Davin's Quest". This series is futuristic erotica about Earth after an attack by aliens who have genetically bred out their emotions. The first book was told from the point of view of some of the surviving humans and now we get a closer look at one of the aliens themselves.
Davin is an Alvian throwback...he can still feel emotion. If it wasn't for his incredible skill working with crystals, he would have been put to death by the unfeeling Alvian Council long ago. Of course, they still watch him closely, waiting for him to go insane as most throwbacks do. Then he hears of half-breed survivors on Earth...offspring of the ancient Alvians who came to explore this planet. He soon becomes fascinated with these half-breeds...and hopeful. Long ago, when Alvians still had feelings, there was one perfect match for each male--a Resonance mate. But with the loss of feelings, the percentage of Resonance matings dropped. Davin is sure if he can just find one of these mates, it can keep him from going insane and since the survivors of the initial attack all seem to be half-breeds, maybe he can find a mate among them. Of course, even if he does, he'll be hard pressed to keep them both alive!
Excellent continuation of the story begun with "Hara's Legacy". The expanding story of the conquering aliens and the struggle of the humans who survived kept me flipping pages as fast as I could read. If you enjoy sizzling menage a trois, science fiction, and fantasy...you owe it to yourself to check out this series. D'Arc manages to make the circumstances and reactions of both sides seem realistic to me and I now I'm just hungry for the next book.
3.5 stars — Yup, pretty much felt the same way as rereading book 1. Had more interest in all the background plot stuff than in the steamy scenes. *snort* Apparently I’m broken. I think I enjoyed them a *teensy* bit more, but still there was a lot of conflict over what was “right”, and Rick’s pigheadedness in understanding that when the woman enjoys it and expressly wants it, it’s not wrong really drove me crazy (as it did with Mick).
But seriously, the crystals?? And the crystallography? I mean, not based in science whatsoever, but super interesting, and I loved the power it gave Davin even as he was looked down upon. I really enjoyed seeing how things were shaping up over the years — how humans were still being treated poorly, but how even a few non-throwback Alvians were being affected (Grady Prime in particular). I’m also intrigued about Sinclair Prime, and can’t remember if he comes back.
The age of Callie bothered me a bit in this one, though it never crossed into ick territory. She was just very young and naive. *shrugs* Onto the next one!
I wasn't sure what to expect from a book that took place so long after the first in the series but it was great! Callie is young but not immature. Davin, being a throwback, was an intense personality for an Alvian. Rick, a human healer, was troubled and intense. Mixing the three together was fascinating and complex as their emotions and relationships ebbed and flowed.
I liked the glimpses we had of characters from the first book and really look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.
I absolutely love this series! This is such a unique take and storyline. I’m anxious to see how things continue to unfold. So many questions waiting to be answered! I can’t wait to find out more.
This is the second book in the Resonance Mates stories. Fifteen years have passed since the last book. Callie and Harry are both teenagers and older than their years would suggest, especially Harry. The Alvians have left the family alone for the most part but that is about to change. Mara 12 wants to study each of the O’Hara brothers for ten years. In order for this to happen she agrees to deactivate the human aging gene for the whole family. None of the men are happy about it Caleb knows that this is part of a great scheme and agrees to go to the alien city with Harry in tow. There is a throwback in this story that is very important to the Alvian since he is the Chief Engineer of the Southern facility which supplies power for all their cities and outposts. This throwback, Davin, is very talented with crystals, the source of all the Alvian's power. His purpose on planet is to tame the wild crystal deposits so a steady supply will keep everything running.
Now that I have set that up I want to say a little bit about Davin. Davin has emotions and that is what makes him especially an outcast among his people. The only reason he is still alive is because of his talent and the fact that fewer and fewer Alvian are born with any crystal talent at all. Davin is very lonely and he is afraid that the madness that can claim the Alvian if they don’t find a resonance mate is going to claim him soon. I liked Davin very much. He is daring and intelligent and very brave. He is also patient and tender and loving. He deserves to have a mate and he finds that mate in Callie O’Hara.
The second male in this menage relationship is Rick St. John. Rick was a teenager when the cataclysm hit Earth. His mother was killed but his father was Special Forces and a doctor so the men were able to survive. They evaded the Alvians for years but were finally captured. Rick is a leader and a healer. He can heal injuries with his mind. It is a very rare psychic gift. It also isn’t long before it is discovered that he has a great deal of crystal talent. This gets into a program that Davin has setup to use humans to help with the demand for crystal. It isn’t long before he meets Callie and the two of them click. Like Mick in the first book it takes some times for Rick to except that he and Callie are resonance mates and that is ok to share her with Davin.
Callie is an outgoing, happy and very powerful empath. She isn’t as powerful as her mother but she can hold her own. She is surprised to find that Davin has emotions and she is very attracted to him however she is only fifteen and not old enough for a mate. The two keep in touch getting to know each other and each year Davin performs one of the tests to see if they are truly mates. Callie takes after her father. She is courageous, fearless and determined. She is also a young woman just coming into her power and understanding of the world around her.
There is a lot going on in this book and therefore hard to keep from saying something that will give away an important part of the plot. There are things that are building to a revolution that the aliens are not ready for. It will be interesting to see how things develop over the next few books. I love these first two books and I can’t wait to get started on the next one.
This book is erotica, so if that's not your thing, stop reading.
This is book 2 in an erotica series that actually has an interesting story line. All through book 1, I was skimming through the sex scenes to get back to the plot. I don't usually read alien invasion sci-fi, so I've never read anything like this series, and it really sparked my imagination. Ms. D'Arc could be ripping off a dozen authors for all I know, but if so, she ripped off a sci-fi subgenre I think I might like.
The premise is that aliens (Alvians) arrived ages ago when people were still primitive. They were shipwrecked and therefore interbred with humans, but they were able to send the location back to their people, who had lost their home world. Turns out our planet has nearly the right conditions for their people to thrive, provided they first bombard the planet with gazillions of huge crystals to "tune" the rocks to the right frequencies. This causes extreme loss of live on Earth, and after the aliens arrive, the few survivors are a very small minority, but the only ones that made it all had some special psychic powers that gave them the foresight to go to a safe area. Those people turned out to be descendants of the shipwrecked aliens.
The aliens have no emotions - they bred it out of themselves - and the alien scientists do all sorts of cruel things to humans to study emotions. Being erotica, many of those things involve sex. Gang rape, for example.
In this book, the foremost planetary crystal engineer, Davin, is introduced. He's an alien, but was born a genetic "throwback" with emotions. Crystal engineering is an in-born trait, and engineers are rare, so he rises to prominence. Eventually he falls in love with the daughter of the family from book one (Callie), and uses his influence to help humans. One of those he helps turns out to be Callie's other mate - so m-f-m ménage. Someone on the council has it out for Davin, though, and an assassination attempt ensues.
The story is a weaker in book 2 than book 1, but still interesting. There's a strong emphasis on love-for-life romance in this series.
Review: I loved this book. This book was terrific and I didn’t want the story to end. This book is the second in the Resonance Mates Series. Miss D’Arc creates a world where human beings have been wiped out by a castrophe caused by the Alvians and there are a few human beings left and they hide. I like that the O’Hara’s are back from the first book. (Hara’s Legacy). I love how the family dynamic remains intact and that the O’Hara’s are a loving family and I think that is the reason that I liked Callie. When Davin first sees Callie he instantly is attracted to her. I like how Miss D’Arc develops Callie and Davin’s relationship carefully and slowly that you can understand why and how they fall in love. Also the introduction of the Rick. St. John character is bought in a very unique way and that he has a gift like all the characters do in this universe. Rick has the gift of healing and I found that unique. The sex scenes were written fantastically well and felt that all the characters cared about one another. I think with these kinds of novels it’s hard not to over write the sex scenes, but it never felt gratitous or just there because the writer needed a sex scene. I also loved how once the action started, she never let up or let the readers down. This book was one of the best books I read. Grade 5 Hearts
I enjoyed this book more than the first in the series. While it was still a bit sticky sweet within the romantic relationship, the back story became more interesting. It may be more realistic, but I also found the hand wringing by Rick, as to whether the menage was "right for Callie", rather tiresome. As with Mick in the first book, it just went on for too long.
The writing was solid, and as I said earlier, the back story is becoming pretty interesting. I'll probably continue the series to see how that plays out.
Book intended for adults only. Bianca D'Arc continues her story about resonance mates, people (or aliens in some cases) meant to live and love each other for as long as they leave. We get a glimpse as to what has happened to the O'Hara family after Harry is left with them. Here we see Callie and Davin, an Alvian alien who is a "throwback," an alien with feelings, something they are not supposed to have.
It has very graphic scences as well as having drama, romance, and fantasy.
Hot alien that's looking for break from his own cold emotionless people. A human male that's an experiment. And a human woman who is mate to them both. Who is an O'Hara. There is hot sex between Davin and Caloie. They meet and bond immediately first. Even thought they wait for when she turns eitghteen. Then Rick the human meet and he falls for Callie at firt sight. Like the scifi and the paranormal aspect of the story. Very well written.
I really liked this book. Some might say there is more story than sex, but that's fine with me. The sex is good, too. Love the story. Its science fiction romance. Can't wait for the next in the series, this month!
Yes, you see it right... A 5 star from the very stingy miss Olson. :-) Great storyline, not just the hot & steamy stuff we come to love & expect from Bianca D'Arc (though there was certainly enough of that!)
The concept of the series is really interesting but some of the writing was weak. The dialogue especially at some instances was very trite as were the images of the world. The world imaged did however make for interesting reading. The erotic elements were well crafted. A satisfactory read.
It is book 2 in a futuristic erotica series. I normally don't read eroctica books but I enjoy the plot/storyline of this series. I skim through the sex to get back to the plot. Outside of the erotica factor, this is a great series so far. I look forward to reading hte next 2 books in the series
It was much better than the first book. Strong and well developed characters. Great plot and excellent execution of idea. I would say it was a great improvement.
