Accused of a crime that he didn’t commit, teenager Wil Calloway is sentenced to join the Moon Chase to try to prove his innocence. On the face of it, this sounds easy enough, especially with the help of the huge Fell hounds of Thesk, but as Wil learns more from the mysterious Lady Élanor and her telepathic sister, Tally, he soon realises that proving his innocence is the least of his challenges - staying alive is another! An ideal read for young adults and confident readers aged over 8 years. Moon Chase is an action packed fantasy adventure that will keep the reader hooked from the first to the last page. No sexual content or bad language.

This book is overall a good read. I don't think that the start of the storyline was strong as I found the events a little questionable but as the book went on I found myself drawn into the story. I did however find that at times the writing style of the book was aimed and younger readers and yet the subject matter was not which could be confusing at times.
I started to like the characters though and the personalities and overall the plot was good so I will be reading the second book to see where the story goes.

It's a shame Goodreads only has five stars to work with, as I feel two is a bit harsh here. I really enjoyed the story, it's interesting and well-paced, with several reasonably developed characters. Points off for the writing, sadly - many errors which a proofreader really ought to have caught before publication ("hung" instead of "hanged", "catch-up" immediately followed by "catch up", for instance). It doesn't quite feel like a final draft, but it is not far off. A little more "show, don't tell", a little more proofreading, and fewer exclamation marks, and it'd be a four-star story.

Bear in mind, I’ve just completed Tolkien’s Fellowship, a testosterone-heavy classic, and therefore my next read should be vaguely anticlimactic on the scale of epicness… In fact, to its merit, Moon Chase has stood up on both of its feet and blown its horn of Thesk quite admirably over Gondor’s fading echoes.

A good dip into medieval-flavoured fantasy with some strong and memorable characters; it hooks you from the first chapter and continues to reel you in right until the end, with both a satisfying conclusion to the tale and a cliff-hanger that will ensure you shall be searching for the sequel in the near future. Unlike many YA authors today, Farr doesn’t make our shifting opinions of her characters feel contrived to the adult audience (the Tanner Boy, for example, is the first character we are introduced to, along with his dog Farrow, and we embark on varying opinions on him – omitting details to avoid spoilers- throughout the book). Now, if reactions at book stores are anything to go by, you can’t shop in the YA book section at 21 without being treated like you should be put on a list, yet this is another prime example of a book that appeals across the ages – it’s well and engagingly written. Also, Farr hasn’t fallen into the trap that I find fiction of this kind still seems to wallow in, she hasn’t tried to pose her characters as some infallible force: the main character, Calloway, is easy to relate to and makes very recognisable, human mistakes… Including a few social blunders and his comical inability to ride a horse!

My only real complaint is that the book needed better proof-reading prior to print as a few errors leapt out whilst I was reading (eg. He dosed on a sweet-scented pillow, shinny apples and the journey was shorted than he expected), but that’s a common crime amongst self-published books. It may be my personal bugbear, but by no means does it detract from the plot and its interwoven host of quirky individuals. If the next book proves to be more of the same, developing further the characters of Moon Chase, then this is going to be a cracking series.

I loved this book so much! I read it in a matter of days as it was so good! I grew attached to the characters and loved the plot of the story! I have also read the second book in the series, "Moon Crossing, fellhounds of thesk." Which I also found brilliant! One of my favourite books I have ever read and I would like to congratulate Cathy! I hope there is another book coming soon! I would recommend this book to everybody!

I think this book was an ok book as I found that it dragged on a little. I read this in school in yr seven and most people said it was boring. I wouldn't say it was an awful book it had a pretty good story line. I think the chapters could have been a little shorter.
