‘The wheel of the year turning, the wheel of life turning. Sadness and joy. Love and grief. Hope and despair. The many shades of a life..’

It’s been a week since Rowan’s untimely death and Carlie is struggling to cope with the loss of her soul mate. Following several encounters with Aideen, the woman in red however, Carlie comes to re-evaluate her life and realises that if she continues to close herself off from others for fear of losing them, she risks living a lonely life as her grandmother, Rose has done. When Rose and Carlie are given a second chance at love, will they be receptive?

Meanwhile, an encounter with a sad lady in a cafe leaves Carlie confused. The lady, who claims to be a friend of Rhiannon’s, urges Carlie to search within herself for the answers that will end the curse that Mike suspects blights the women in his life. Will Carlie succeed?

Into the Light is the final instalment of the Into the Mists series and what a journey this has been. Throughout the series it’s been apparent that the author has a true understanding of grief and all its stages. Carlie’s journey from heartbreak and loss to trust and healing as she rose above her pain was a revelation.

The character development has been exceptional, each character showing real depth and substance. Carlie not only deals with her own grief, but helps several others to do the same. Rose in particular, seems to have blamed herself for her daughter leaving twenty years ago, along with her husband’s death. Carlie is able to persuade her to see otherwise. I confess that I welled up on many occasions in this book as each character was given closure. Carlie’s last conversation Rowan’s mother was a particularly poignant moment.

All in all, I was happy with the way the author tied up all the loose ends. At the end of any series, its always sad to say goodbye to characters that one has become invested in. I’ll certainly be looking out for future works from this author.

I received an advanced free audible copy of Into the Light which was narrated by Gabrielle Baker. I was impressed by the way she was masterfully able to bring each character to life with their own unique voice, switching effortlessly between characters and accents.

Wow, where to begin.
The author certainly knows grief. After reading the second installment and diving headfirst into the final installment of this series I was seriously gutted for Carlie. This book just gives us so many answers that I for one wasn’t expecting. I absolutely love reading all about the different witchy rituals. I believe that was my favorite part as well as seeing Carlie becoming the best person. I loved the character growth and the author once again did a fabulous job.

I listened to the audiobook and it was wonderful. The narrator did a fabulous job bringing the story to life. I highly recommend.

It's been such a beautiful journey following Carlie on her path of healing, magic, love and loss. This book (and the ones that precede it) evoke fairytale nostalgia masterfully combined with real-world wisdom, witchcraft and humanity. I truly feel lucky to have learned from the wisdom and lessons that the characters in this book have experienced & shared. It is an inspiring read in so many ways. Light and dark, heart-warming and heart-breaking, lightly fantastical while also raw + real, it brought me to tears in some instances while bringing me to joy in others. Gorgeous.

I've thoroughly enjoyed reading Serene Conneeley's Into the Mists trilogy and following Carlie's journey from rebellious, hate-filled but also heart-broken teenager through the darkness and 'into the light'. Conneeley portrays beautifully the spiritual heart of Glastonbury with all its magic, mystery and power as Carlie gradually falls under her grandmother's spell and begins to heal while also learning what truly counts: being true to yourself while having respect for others. This is a story of love and loss, trust and truth, heartbreak and hope. Fascinating details of the earth's great festivals (Beltaine, Imbolc, Samhain etc) and the rituals associated with them (including mouth-watering descriptions of the feasts that follow!)mark the passage of Carlie's growth to maturity as she learns about the world, about friendship and love, and about herself. Highly recommended, especially for teenagers and Y/A.
