Beginning will gets you hooked, but...

Different kind of a plot, like the book title says it happens. But so many twists and turns makes you wonder where its going, other than many gruesome murders. Keeps you searching for "Hyperion Foxtrot Protocol" meaning. It's about existence of a shadowy cabal influencing global politics.

First book in a "thriller" series means "introduce the hero/heroine in a novel way." Rogan Bricks is, at least, interesting. A wisecracking FBI agent with a past. Dropped into a global conspiracy when the President, during the state of the union address, grabs a gun, then shoots and kills his wife. Bricks is brought in from Alaska and the body count grows.

On the one hand, I didn't put it down and whipped through it. Kudos to the author for a fast paced story. On the other hand, like many thrillers, one must at some point give up any thought that this could be real. Ambushes, attacks, betrayals, improbable feats of escape, miraculous recoveries from torture and beatings - all the things that make the genre more an escape to a guilty pleasure than a serious sit down and pay attention read.

The author did one thing very well - he gave his character a very dry wit. That had this one pop up from the pack of genre.

Great introduction to Steve Richer's books. In this unlikely scenario, agent Rogan Bricks is called upon to investigate the titular crime. In the process we learn a lot about the way the US "really" works and about Rogan's past life, to go along with a ton of action throughout the entire book.

It's been a while since I read this one, but I remember it being very fun and a quick entertaining read.

A true thriller!

Yes, this one has me from the first word. The POTUS shooting his wife sets off a fast paced thriller bringing in Rogan Bricks, FBI agent stationed in Alaska, and wondering to himself, why me? Well, there are several reasons, but one main reason is because he is worth over $300M! Yes, that certainly tied into this wild ride. I'm looking forward to the next couple of books!

A very interesting story of political intrigue, greed and death.

The plot is very interesting and could have been taken from today's geopolitical systems and the characters are also a interesting mix. I highly recommend this book.

Intrigue

I am a fan of good mystery/thrillers. “The President Killed His Wife” by Steve Richer is one of those thrillers. The story begins as the President takes the podium to address the nation in the State of the Union Address. Minutes into the speech it is evident that something is terribly wrong with the President. Then the nation watches in horror as he motions to a Secret Service Agent, swiftly grabs his gun and murders his wife sitting in the gallery. This crime is captured on all the news channels live.

Rogan Bricks, an FBI agent, is called in to head the investigation. He is given carte blanche by the Director and all avenues are at his disposal. Everyone saw the President do the deed. It should be an open and shut case…but is it? Reading this book was interesting in that the victims and the criminals kept getting confused. Although the premise is a bit far-fetched, the story kept my interest and kept me reading until I finished it. I highly recommend this book for lovers of mystery and mayhem.

Wow, what a great book. This one grabs you and never lets you go.

If you like Jack Reacher, you will definitely like the hero of this one -Rogan Bricks. He is a billionaire, FBI agent, Marine all rolled into one with a great sense of humor.

The President killed his wife - yep and on national TV. Everyone saw him do it, but did he? Rogan is called in to head the case and find out what happened. Rogan is still grieving over the death of his wife 5 years ago and live in Alaska.

When he is called to Washington to head the case up, he meets up with a former agent - Cass who is in love with him.

This one moves quickly from one thing to another - each time Rogan facing life or death. If you love thrillers and something to keep you turning this pages, this is the one.

Imagine you're the Station Chief at the lonely Alaskan FBI post and as you're fixing dinner, you watch the POTUS shoot and kill his wife on live TV from the podium of the House floor in a joint session of congress. Not really sure you have seen what you think, you're suddenly called by the Director of the FBI to be the chief investigator to find out what caused such a travesty. Get ready for the ride of your life. Not everything or everyone is what they claim to be. You'll find yourself unable to quit turning pages until the case is finally solved. Thanks for a great read.

During the State of the Union address the President motions t his Secret Service guard, whispers I his ear and grabs his gun then turns and shoots his wife in the gallery. Chaos, confusion and the FBI calls a Special Agent from his post in Alaska to head the investigation. He no sooner starts then he is targeted for "removal". Surviving an assassination attempt he pursues the case despite repeated attempts on his life. More? No, I think that was enough. A fair read with a few minor editing gaffs.

Good story

I enjoyed reading about Agent Bricks. I found him to be funny and likeable. Some people may not like his character since he's always joking around and giving sarcastic replies, but I didn't think it was too bad. There were times when the author should have pulled back on the joking, since it made it more corny and dry than humorous.

There was just the right amount of conspiracy, betrayal, action and romance. I enjoyed this book. I will say the twists weren't really twists for me and the ultimate twist fell flat. Give it a try, you just may like it.

Wouldn't recommend

I loved the whole concept the plot was based on. I have to give the author credit for creativity. I just didn't feel the writer was experienced enough as a writer to hold my interest. The plot had holes in it and was a little awkward in several places. I confess to reading the whole book because I wanted to see where he went, but I could not in good conscience recommend it. I hope the writer pursues some avenues of improving his skills because there is potential there.

While this book was not as well-written as some (lots of repetitive phrasing, word usage, confusing dialogue, etc.), it had a good story and kept me reading until the end. That being said, there are not many set-in-Washington, political intrigue, blow-up-the-world, race-against-time, Tom-Clancyesque books I won't finish once I start, so I may not be a good judge on this, but it was well-plotted, had some fun characters and was pretty well paced. I kept reading and I read it during a house move so it had to be good because I kept going back to it right in the middle of things.

Just okay

As I read the book I wanted it to be over. It didn't grab me in any way. The characters weren't very interesting and the plot not realistic. There were some grammatical errors but nothing I couldn't deal with. I'm not sure what the author's nationality is but there were a number of British terms that were distracting. I'm not the type who likes romance mixed in with a thriller and there was plenty of that. I won't be in a rush to read other books by this author if this is an indication of his writing style.

Fast paced

I read this book in under 24 hours, and not because it was short. The whole story moved at a fast pace, but not too fast. There were no gaps or leaps of faith required. Amazing twists, but ones that made sense when you saw them. Great characters well developed without pages and pages of backstory to wade through before the story line could progress. Kind of James Bond, spy stuff; kind of conspiracy theory stuff; kind of crime story; and good old fashioned good guys versus bad guys.

WOW!

What an awesome read! Don't let the title fool you the president killing his wife is the boring part of this book. An FBI agent, who was a marine, who happens to be independently wealthy takes on corruption in the government. There is so much action my adrenaline is spiked vicariously. I've not read Mr. Richer work before but will be binge reading the other titles he has written right away. Strongly recommend!

This book had my interest when I read the title.

I found it to be a very fast paced and entertaining book. I read it in basically 4 sessions over a 3 day period. I would have liked to have had the time to just read through it from cover to cover. But, work and life get in the way.

I really liked the main character, Rogan Bricks. Aside from his great name, he was a great character. I like my characters a little flawed, and he fit the bill.

I highly recommend this one.

Not for me

I quit reading half way through when the first sentence of a chapter talked about "the most satisfying piss of his life". Granted, I was contemplating this action anyway but that comment helped to make the exit immediate. I am a Baldacci, Cohen, Grippando fan and this author does not match up. Shallow is the term that comes to mind. Interesting premise so two stars.

There is no hook at the beginning of the story. The guy is preparing crab salad. Fascinating. Of course, that's why the book has a dumb title. "The President Killed His Wife" The title is the hook. A poor start but the book got better. I enjoyed the action and the humor. The President's motive is far fetched. I didn't believe he would have done that. Still, the twists are good enough to make me recommend this book for a plane ride or lazy day when you want easy fun reading.

The story line was great and exciting to follow. The overall premise was a bit far-fetched and unbelievable, but if you suspend your disbelief you can really enjoy the book. Lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing. The book appeared to be well edited with nothing I could spot that would make it hard to read. Predictable. It kept my interest but I probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Classic story of a rich man who can single handedly kill anyone, rescue anyone and accomplish much more than humanly possible. Its basically a story copied from every tv or movie about government conspiracies and the superhumans who save the world and get the hot chick at the end. Meh. .

The book was okay. The story moved right along. I got a little tired of some things: everyone seemed to be winking at everyone, over and over in this book and the girlfriend he'd known for years suddenly turns into an enemy. It was a bit formula. However, with that said, I enjoyed the book for the most part and like the characters.
