"The Maverick Cowboy" by Kate Pearce

My Reasoning:

This is the second in this series...Morgan Ranch # 2 that features Blue Morgan and Jenna McDonald and a few other wonderful characters that will keep you turning the pages. Yes, this will definitely be on of those reads that will have plenty of romance along with some real steamy hot sex scenes. Even though this is a series this novel can be read as a standalone but I do recommend that you read the first series too for even a better understanding of this series.

The author gives us a good story with Blue Morgan returning home from the Marines[of twelve years] who was trying to find his way back as a civilian and working together with his brother Chase and grandmother Ruth. Blue's his job was to care for the horses which put him into close situations with Jenna the local vet. How will this closeness affect them?

Jenna is a veterinarian in her uncle's practice where she spends a lots of time at the Morgan Ranch taking care of there livestock. We find Jenna having had a hard life being adopted and was fighting with her family[who were over achievers] due to her career choice. Even many of the locals [old schoolers] who thought that she couldn't perform her job due to the fact she was a woman. But will things chance as Jenna began to see Blue in a different light? What will happen as Blue become protective of Jenna? Well, before these two can get to an HEA [military guy & veterinarian] will they be able to make it through "[the gray areas of their life], survive Jenna's family, with her secrets and surprises from Blue's past and that crazy drunk rancher who didn't know when to stop." Now, how will this story all plan out as this family history that is so loaded with drama, mystery, suspense, secrets, hope, humor, friendship, redemption and love seems to continue that started in the first series. There is so much going on in this story line with all of its twist and turns that you will just have to pick this novel up and read it for yourself to see how well this author presents this entertaining and thought provoking story to the readers.

I found all the characters [Blue, Jenna, Chase, Ruth,Roy, January, Maria] to name a few who were all all well developed, portrayed, likable, believable that will definitely keep your attention to the end. The author gives this series a wonderful writing style that will definitely get you ready for the next series with involves another brother...Ry who is a twin.

Blue Morgan, say no more. Book two in the Morgan Ranch series and this one Wow'd me right from the beginning. Jaw dropping Blue Morgan.

Blue is about to get out of the Marine Corp after 12 years of service and has decided to go back to the family ranch and help Chase get it up and running. Blue and Chase have ironed out there differences (book 1) and there are many things still left up in the air. While Blue is home on a quick leave he meets local Vet Jenna McDonald. Her Uncle has been the local Vet for years, his son also works with him and Jenna is helping out also. Chase has made her an offer to hire her full time at the ranch.
Ahhh, but she meets Blue.

Blue runs hot and cold initially," the usual no time for a relationship, it's not on my list of priorities right now, blah blah blah blah blah" I loved Blue. Blue is stubborn, all male and dumb as a brick as far as women go. Thank God for Grandma Ruth, I love this woman. She's the backbone of these stories. Blue gets a lot dumped on his plate at once, leaving the Corp. His father is back home, and trying, he gets a major life upheaval, and he and Chase are still trying to find out what happened that night to their mother. This book brings us an iota closer to that. Chase and January are planning their wedding which is only a few months off and this book has a few twists that just kept you flipping those pages.

Jenna's had a bit of a rough go, she gets pressure from her family and stand up right and do no wrong over achieving sisters, who cannot understand how Jenna could possibly be happy being a Vet in a small town and god forbid not want to further her education even if she stayed within her chosen field. I couldn't stand Lily her sister. The parents made me gag a few times and hope to hell we don't get to meet the other over achieving sister. I'm sure we will. Jenna is really insecure, for more reasons than her family and reading the book you understand that.

I loved this story, actually better than book one. Blue appealed to me more than Chase. But it was more than that, the dialogue between Blue and Jenna. Add in Ruth and a couple other things and it just made for a complete story and throw in some sizzle and there you go. It's light on the sex. Which was ok. This book honestly didn't need the over sexed pages to distract from the story.
It did get a little convoluted at the end, briefly. But it didn't take away from the story.

Great book Kate!!! Bring on Book 3 I'm ready for Ry's story!!

I’m loving these Morgan cowboys! Blue Morgan has a lot of things happening at once to him and his Marine skills help him and sometimes hurt him. Jenna is the vet he’s got his eye on but since he’s got so much going on he doesn’t think now is the time to start a relationship. Of course, love has no time lines!

So good! Blue Morgan returns to Morgan Ranch after his last enlistment in the Marines come to an end. After learning the truth of what really happened all those years ago and what his brother had actually done for the family Blue is ready to set things right and help to not only save the ranch but mend the riff in the family. Working with the prickly yet beautiful new vet will be as a big a challenge as everything else. Controlling his attraction to her will be almost impossible. Jenna MacDonald has her own set of problems to deal with. Getting the ranchers to trust a new vet is hard enough. Getting them to accept a female vet...almost impossible. Jenna is determined though and she won't let her attraction to Blue Morgan distract her.

I liked this book even more than the first and I liked that one a heck of a lot. I highly recommend this one.

Blue Morgan as a teenager ran as soon as possible far from the ranch where he was raised. His mother took off, his father became a drunk and his older brother tried raising them but to Blue it felt to controlled so he became a Marine. Now after a concussion he is about to be discharged and all he can think of is the ranch, he misses being on horseback and all the work, and truth be told he misses family.
His brother has made good and now is trying to make the ranch which has been in their family for more than a hundred years profitable and a going concern. Blue hopes his other brothers will return and all of them once again being a family again.
Jenna McDonald is the new vet , working with her uncle and cousin until her other cousin returns from school to take her place. There is an immediate spark between Jenna and Blue, one that is intense. Jenna bounced from foster home to foster home, she and her sisters were all finally adopted, both her sisters are well on their career paths and along with their "parents' are not happy with the path Jenna has taken.
Offered a place with the Morgan ranch as vet on site she is so torn, she is so scared to reach for something for herself, to believe in herself and the possible happy ending. Both her and Blue have their share of demons and baggage can either move forward and see what is right before them.
This was a great read, the family dynamics are ones I can truly identify with. The story is well written and the characters filled out and your able to connect with them. I look forward to more in the Morgan Ranch series.

**3.5 Stars**

Blue has six months left until he's officially a civilian, though, as the saying goes, he'll always be a Marine, it's time for the next chapter of his life. Even if that means going back to where it all started, and reconnecting with his brothers to save the Morgan Ranch. When he's injured while training a newbie during his last assignment, those injuries have pretty much secured him a desk job until his time is up.

Jenna, a veterinarian, works with her cousin, Dave, at the local animal clinic. She loves her job and though it may be chaotic at times, she thrives on the challenge. When Dave shares his idea for Jenna to help the Morgans with their plan to start purchasing horses, her area of expertise, she's unsure until Dave reminds her the clinic will need more clients to justify possibly having three vets.

As their last meeting didn't go too great, Blue and Jenna aren't exactly overjoyed to be working together regarding the horses. Then again, if Blue could keep his big foot out of his mouth, they'd probably get along just fine.

Blue and Jenna begin to see each other in a different light shortly after they begin working together, but the transition to a relationship won't be a smooth one. Blue doesn't feel he has currently has the time, nor maybe even the ability period, to commit to a long-term relationship, even though Jenna is the one he could see it being with. As for Jenna, she's spent her life always feeling as if she was never enough, as having Blue cite his reasons for not wanting to get involved, and those being that other things require his focus, just solidifies that belief.

Will Blue and Jenna realize their connection can't be denied? Can Jenna accept that she is more than enough? Will she stand up for herself and go after what, and who, she wants? Will Blue admit Jenna is the one for him? Will Blue and Chase get another step closer into learning the truth about their mom and sister's disappearance twenty years ago? Is another brother returning to the ranch? What happens when a secret from Blue's past is revealed to everyone, including Blue himself? Is there a HEA for Blue and Jenna?

One-click now and follow along as two people realize life is what you make it and you need to fight for what you want. I'm curious to see how book three, Ry's story, will be portrayed and the journey he'll experience with his heroine. Please keep in mind this is book two in the series and I highly recommend reading them in order as there is an overall storyline arc throughout the whole series in addition to each book focusing on one couple.

On a purely personal note, one of the plot devices I really do not like was used and it ruined a lot of the investment I was building in the main characters as a couple. I don't want to say anything that could be a spoiler, but I will say it's one that has to suck for the heroine as she's quite literally faced with a certain aspect of the hero's past. One that I think would be painful to hear, even though it was prior to them being together. Of course, it all worked out, but I really wish this particular one could stop being used as a premise, though I understand why it's used, I still don't care for it. So, while I liked the book as a whole, I would've enjoyed it more without this being used as it took away from the relationship growing between the main characters. I wish something else would've been used to create the "drama."

Expectations can be difficult to live up to, especially when one’s older sibling is so very very smart…and both Jenna McDonald and Blue Morgan have very smart rather pushy older siblings. That said…they both do manage to do very very well for themselves in the fields they have chosen with Blue a gunnery sergeant in the marines and Jenna a veterinarian.

In this book Chase and January are still engaged, the search for the Morgan brothers’ mother is ongoing, Ry & HW are introduced in preparation for further books and we receive Blue Boy “BB” Morgan’s story. BB is second oldest and has made up with his older brother and is working on making up with his father. He is looking forward to leaving military service after 12 years and is eager to be back on the ranch. His focus on finding horses for the ranch leads him to interact with Jenna, met at the roundup in book one, and though they are attracted to one another BB is not ready for romance as it is not on his timeline of things to do until sometime in the future.

The relationship between Jenna and BB felt more real than some romances I have read with a bit of friction, a bit of want, a bit of distance, a bit of this and that and the other thing but all in equal and just enough measure to make for an interesting story. I liked that the revelations about each character came at the right time to open up the character allowing me to know them better. I liked that both Jenna and BB were supportive of one another. I liked the verbal (and other) interactions between them. I liked the storyline with Maria showing up unexpectedly and the fact that the Morgan’s rallied to support this ten year old girl. I liked the side story of Nate helping Jenna out and wonder if he will find his “One True One” and also wonder if Dave, Jenna’s cousin, will find a love interest. I am eager to read Ry’s story and hope HW will come to his senses. I want to find out about the second mortgage on the ranch and whether or not the mother and sister of the Morgan brothers are still alive. Needless to say there is a lot in this story to make it interesting and worth reading AND I am eager to read more in this series while wondering if perhaps there will be a spin-off series dealing with the other men of Morgantown once the brothers find their partners. NOTE: This can be read as a standalone but it will have more depth if you read book one first.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the ARC. This is my honest review.

The veterinarian Jenna and the ex marine Blue is attracted to each other but they have a lot of baggage. Can they make a relationship work despite that?

I liked this story and the fact that it was realistically written not with overwhelming passion and fairytale, just plain love and attraction between two people. Sometimes it's nice to read these kind of stories in between the others.

What I did like about this story is that both Jenna and Blue are willing to think about their actions and reflect on their issues when they don't come eye to eye on every thing. That made them more human and more realistic in my opinion.

The writing style is straight forward with no unnecessary descriptions of surroundings and there is enough dialogues.

The build up in the story was good and if I should mention one specific scene I liked it must be the scene at the breakfast table with Jenna's parents. I love how Blue and Jenna stood up for each other.

As an extra bonus there where a lot of side characters that I could picture story written for.........

A strong 4 star read and I still don't know why I can't give it more stars but for me it's all about how I feel after reading the story. I always wait one day before I write a review because then the story has time to settle in my mind. And this one just made me feel 4 star.............

Another winning cowboy read for these cold winter nights. I love me some hot sexy cowboy reads! Toss in a bit of a mystery and you've got that perfect read for a weekend piled up next to the woodstove. The characters in this story were right on the spot, Blue or BB (won't tell you what the second B is for) and Jenna set off sparks right from the beginning. There is a big family of Morgans (another thing I love in these stories) from Grandma Ruth to the hired help.
Jenna's family pops in and out of the story and it's so easy to see that though they love her unconditionally, their ability to show that love in a helpful manner is so opposite from the Morgans. It's easy and sad to see what has caused her to be a bit standoffish.
I love seeing that Blue, a cowboy through and through, has lived a lot of his maturing years as a Marine. It's interesting seeing him adjust back into the mainstream of life as a cowboy and brother.
Tickled pink to see book three "The Last Good Cowboy" is due out late April but puzzled as there is one brother unaccounted for. Hopefully, there will be at least one more book to give us closure on this series.

5 I'm loving these Morgan Brothers Stars!

This is the 2nd book in the Morgan Ranch series, and in this one we get to know Blue Morgan a little better. BB is transitioning out of the military and wants to make a life for himself helping his brother and grandma run the family ranch. He doesn't think he is in any position to have a relationship and wants to concentrate on getting his life together, that is until the spunky new vet Jenna McDonald catches his eye. She is just a little slip of a thing, but she doesn't take Blue's crap and that just makes him more interested in her. But, transitioning to civilian life gets harder for Blue when his past catches up to him in an unexpected way. Blue and Jenna's budding romance might be over before it really begins.

I love these characters, even the minor characters add something to this story. It's rich with family history, intrigue, mystery, and long buried secrets. I loved the push and pull between Jenna and Blue, they both give as good as they get. I enjoyed every minute of this book, even though it is a work of fiction it reads like a true story. I can't wait for the next book in this series!

Book two of the Morgan Ranch series, The Maverick Cowboy, truly centers around Blue Morgan and his homecoming to Morgan Ranch. In book one, we were introduced to the family, and his big brother Chase, but this story is more about Blue, his adjustment after his decade in the Marines, and getting to know and re-love his family and ranch home. Blue truly has much to work through but you can really tell his feelings run deep and he is family-strong. He isn’t looking for a relationship but get one he does! Jenna McDonald, as broken inside as Blue, is the new veterinarian and just the person to help Blue, and herself, find happiness and an HEA. We also meet a few new characters, no spoilers from me, and you will enjoy meeting them. We also get to know Jenna’s family, especially her uncle and cousin who own the vet practice where she works. Pretty funny. I am enjoying this series and can’t wait for the next story!

Having thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, I was definitely eager to read more about the Morgans. Blue is the second oldest in the Morgan family and trying to find his place on the Ranch now that he is done with the Marines. Jenna is the only female vet in the town and not exactly thrilled to be working so closely with Blue. But those that protest too much usually have a reason. Both Jenna and Blue have a lot of insecurities to work out before they can really get into a relationship but neither one of them are real good about waiting! I'm looking forward to the next book featuring Ry and hopefully will get a glance at HW and see just what is up with the twins.

This is the second novel in the Morgan Ranch series and I was eager to return to the ranch and it's cast of characters, having so much enjoyed the first novel in the series, The Reluctant Cowboy. While this was also a very good read, I found it marginally less engaging and less successful and can only give it a 4-star rating.

This novel is the story of Blue Morgan, younger brother to Chase, who was featured in the first novel, and Blue's relationship with Jenna McDonald, the newest veterinarian in town. As the novel opens, Blue, a non-commissioned officer, is leaving the Marine Corps after 12 years and returning to the family ranch, helping to turn it into a profitable historical guest ranch. Jenna, who was given up for adoption by her birth parents and adopted by the overachieving McDonald family in L.A. is trying to fit into the veterinary practice in Morgantown, and dealing with some of the old-timers not liking the idea of a female vet as well as having her own issues of low self-esteem, and always feeling like an outsider.

Chase and his fiance January are still planning their wedding, and Blue or "BB" and Chase are still searching for some clue as to the whereabouts of their mother who disappeared one night 20 years ago along with their baby sister. Looking ahead, I'm guessing we won't learn their whereabouts until the conclusion of the series. Blue's main focus in this novel is attempting to find safe, healthy, well-trained horses for the guest ranch, which puts him in close proximity to Jenna, who he met at the end of the last book. The two are clearly attracted to one another, but their relationship is rocky at best. Blue sees things as only black or white, while Jenna, after years of therapy, sees all the shades in-between, and neither of these two characters is terribly forthright about their feelings, leading to chain of misunderstandings.

Add into an already confusing situation, the sudden appearance of 10-year-old Maria, who shows up at the ranch after being discarded by the man she thought was her father and who has been put on a bus, sent to Morgantown and told that Blue is her real father, a child he never knew anything about--and all of this following close on the heels of the death of Maria's mother, who was a one-night stand a decade earlier when Blue first joined the Marines. An added complication is that Maria seems to almost immediately bond with Blue's recently returned father, Billy, who had disappeared into a bottle 20 years ago after his own wife left him and only reappeared at the end of the last novel. Blue and Billy still haven't fully made peace with one another.

As I learned in her previous novel, Ms. Pearce's novels are multi-layered, with many threads of future stories involving many of the characters being interwoven, and while I love that aspect of her style, some characters drew me in, as did January in the first novel, but while Jenna is likable enough and able to speak her mind to Blue, her inability to speak up for herself to her parents was something I found irritating and it just didn't seem to fit her character. I did warm up to her eventually, and liked the way Blue changed and matured with his sudden thrust into fatherhood, and I'm eager to see this relationship develop in upcoming installments.

Finally, the one thing that threw me for a loop was the abruptness of the ending. I won't go into details because I hate spoilers, but turning the page to what I thought would be an epilogue, I was shocked when I instead found a cake recipe, which is the last thing I was expecting. I'll continue to follow this series because it's so well-written, and the characters interest me, but I do hope Ms. Pearce won't end any subsequent novels in such a fashion. I would also suggest to readers that although this novel can be read as a standalone, the relationships between these characters and the family history are so complex that it would make a great deal more sense to you if you read them in the order in which they were written.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this novel.

This was just an okay cowboy romance for me. There actually wasn't much romance to the story, which was disappointing. It seemed as though Blue & Jenna were always in limbo and I just wasn't feeling their connection.

Jenna especially was annoying in her inability to figure out what she wanted to do with her life and make a decision without heavy influence from outsiders. I get that her parents both abandoned her as a young girl and she was in foster care and eventually adopted. I understand how that could make you feel unwelcome and unsure of yourself. It didn't help that her adoptive family pushed too hard and only viewed her as successful if she had more advanced training and education. I mean she was a vet for goodness sake. It's not like she just had a 2 or 4-year degree...she had an advanced degree.

I liked Blue. He was also indecisive in the beginning, but he was just beginning the process of getting out of the military and then had another surprise pop up, so it was understandable. Once he set his mind to something, he went for it. He wanted Jenna in his life and that much was obvious. Jenna was the one who was having second thoughts and pushing Blue away.

I absolutely loved Billy's relationship with Maria. It was obvious that he's made a lot of progress towards bettering himself after leaving his kids all those years ago when anger, depression and alcohol got the best of him. The bond he had with Maria was just precious and I'm glad the kids are giving him a chance to make amends.

Dave (Jenna's cousin) was also a funny addition to the series. He kept me laughing and I loved that he supported Jenna despite what some in the community were saying about her competency.

We still don't know by the end of this book where the Morgan brother's mom and sister are. They've been missing for 20 years and I assume that search will continue on in the next book.

I look forward to the quiet Ry's book next. He was certainly a cute and sweet cowboy.

One of those small-town romances with an emphasis on the town, or in this case the family; a lot of time is devoted to cute family interactions and dramatic family moments, less time on actually building the romance. In this case, the family stuff actually became grating: I also have to note, because it really annoyed me, that at one point the heroine's family is lecturing her on coming back to LA and pursuing her doctorate. Uh. She's a veterinarian. To be a practicing veterinarian in the US, she already has her doctorate.

Fielding swung out on his rope jerking his instructor up to meet him. Blue basically had time to brace himself before slamming into the other mant then Blue passed out. Mel was his fellow instructor asked Ginny if Blue was okay. Blue opened his eyes and then passed out again. Blue only had six months left in the Marines. Blue ended up with a concussion, whiplash, two broken ribs, and a black eye. Blue has to stay overnight in the hospital as they want to watch his concussion. Blue liked his life the way it was . He was in control and no one was ever going to take that away from him. Twelve years in the Marines Twelve years in the Marines made Blue a man to reckon with. Now Blue’s purpose was to save Morgan Ranch and make it profitable again. Jenna loved her mom but sometimes it was like trying to stop a river in flood, not that her father was any better. Jenna’s uncle has an unusual practice as he had an afternoon clinic Meg was one of the veterinarian techs who had been with the practice for years and had saved Jenna on several occasions.. The clinic Jenna now worked in the only clinic in forty miles and they handled everything. Blue found working with his hands soothing. Blue let it be known he has no time for a relationship. Blue is trying to get used to civilian life. Blue is very attracted to Jenna even though he is trying to fight it. She is also attracted to Blue. Then a ten year old little girl shows up at the ranch and says she is Blue’s daughter and her mother had passed away.
I liked this story a lot. It was a good romance but there was a lot of other things going on. I liked the twists and turns . I didn’t like Jenna’s parents or sister very much. This story did have a good plot and was well written. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this story and I recommend.

This book follows the story of Chase with that of his brother Blue Boy named after the character from the TV series ‘The High Chaparral’, whose mother was killed in the first episode. Perhaps we see a link here with the fact that in the first book of this series, the mother of the 4 boys is killed by the father – or was she?

Blue or BB as they call him, was in the Marines as a Gunnery Sergeant – the highest NCO rank available. And in this book he is about to be discharged from service and decides not to re-enlist but to help with the family ranch.

Blue has a temper and is well honed as a Marine and thus is rather a frightening character in the beginning, but it seems he has a soft heart that was damaged by the behaviour of his father – and his older brother Chase – when his mother disappeared.

The story of the ranch and the debts of Ruth is continued and Chase looks for who took out the second mortgage and why. And as Blue gradually works his way into helping with the ranch he also starts to wonder about his mother and sister – and a search for truth begins. Helped by Jenna, the family vet, who has trouble believing in her self-worth but helps Blue with his temper.

This book I felt was better structured than book 1 and had less plot issues. The characters seemed better formed and described.

I enjoyed it and read it fast. This book and the previous book in the series were given to me by the publisher.

This is the second book in the series. You have Blue Morgan leaving the Marines and going back to the family ranch. There is where he meets Jenna McDonald who checks on the animals for the ranch. They end up working together and this puts them together more, and more. They both must deal with feelings that neither one is ready to at times. Blue has many different issues to work out with his father, leaving the Marines, back at the ranch, and then a surprise 10 year old girl shows up named Maria and she changes the ball of whacks and together with Jenna the man who needs to have a plan for his life now has been thrown for a loop. Now he must come to grips with falling for Jenna, and also finding out if Maria is his daughter. Jenna helps with Maria since her past of being adopted and when she looked for her birth parents and found them she was rejected again, so she is understanding what Maria is feeling. I really connected to Jenna’s story, but the entire book was very good and the story was very good. All of the characters were ones you could see in your mind and help you connect to the book. Overall a very good book. My one complaint is the cover the person does not look like the character from the story a former Marine 6’2” and a hard body that would be my only complaint. I got this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 4 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

Jenna and Blue (H)

the pacing was ok but many times dragging. some scenes seemed to go long without enough take-away like the prep and duration of Chase's engagement party.

I liked both main characters and they were distinctive enough.

there's an overall arc to the series regarding the Morgan brothers' mother and sister which was interesting as parts of the mystery revealed itself. although this is the first book I'm reading from the series I didn't feel like it needed to read #1 to keep up with book #2. it's likely because it's so early in the series plot line.

for the conflict of this novel it didn't hold up for me. the issue leans on Jenna's internal struggles but many times I felt very disengaged from that plot line especially closer to the end.

spoiler alert

there was also the introduction and plot line with 11 year old Maria. she's sweet and an easy character to love.

The end was satisfactory but since the novel already felt too long the last scene at Maria's birthday party didn't end fast enough. and then with Jenna finally making her decision, wrapping up her storyline I was indifferent since I expected an HEA and disengaged since the reader wasn't involved enough in the change of her character.

with the long scenes and my issues with how Jenna's plot was handled I'm not interested in the other books in the series.

Blue Boy Morgan has returned home to the family ranch after rising to the level of gunnery seargent in the marines after 10 years. In this second of the Morgan Family Ranch series the second son copes with returning to civilian life and the family drama he joined the military to escape. Since this is a romance novel throw in a pretty young female vet to thicken the pot.

I will discover soon whether or not terms for human body parts thrown around liberally in their books are acceptable in book reviews on Amazon: “ass”, “cock”, “clit”. I have no doubt that women do sit around coffee shops having lascivious discussions about the finer attributes of their favourite menfolk. Moral judgements regarding the advisability of pre-marital sex no longer seem to enter the equation however AIDS and HIV have made the use of “protection” almost universally required and not simply as a method for the prevention of pregnancy. Marriage as the objective of romance seems to have regained strong currency though in a world where the future king of England cohabitated for a decade with his future wife when it occurs no longer seems important. All this by way of saying that what is socially acceptable has changed. Laws and morality are always slower in catching up.

Blue gets out of the military at the same time he meets the lovely Jenna Mc Donald the new Veterinarian in the area. Blue and Jenna don't exactly get along at first but sparks fly. Blue and his siblings are trying to solve the mystery of what happened to their mother and their baby sister years ago. While they make minute progress on that front Blue is also struggling with his feelings for Jenna a long with a very big surprise that pops up in his life. It might be more that this Marine can handle. This is kind of a complicated story. Blue has the mystery with him and baby sister a child that shows up that may or may not be his and Jenna doesn't know where she belongs and doubts her abilities after a grumpy old rancher blames her for problems on his ranch. There are some really funny moments in this book along with some sad stuff. It's one of those books that just a joy to read. I love how Blue Morgan was named after a famous character from a old time western tv show. To find out more about that you'll have to read the book. I did not read the first book in this series but i am wishing now that i did. I think i found a new author to enjoy!

I just love it at the Morgan ranch and this story is about Blue coming home from the marines and deciding to stay and make the ranch profitable.
Jenna is a veterinarian helping her cousin Dave out with the practice now that his dad would rather play golf. It is only temporary till his sister comes back but Jenna really loves it and the Morgan ranch too.
Blue has a plan that doesn't include a relationship and Jenna knows this but the more they are together the more Blue isn't so sure he wants to stick with the plan. Something happens to alter Blue's plans and it also effects the family and Jenna has her own family to deal with which could be a deal breaker. I love how easy going life on the ranch is and how the author tells the story from both sides without making it obvious. Also Blue, Chase and the family are still trying to find out where their mother and little sister went. The story is told just right and I also love the recipe at the end. Can't wait to read the next one even though you can read it as a standalone.

This is the 2nd book in a series. The Morgan brothers have spent a long time away from their family ranch. When they were young their mother disappeared with their baby sister never to be heard from or seen again, their father became a suspect, and later an alcoholic that abandoned his 4 young sons with his mother. 20 years later, Grandma Ruth is bringing her grandsons home one by one, and bringing the family ranch back to its former glory in the process.

Blue Morgan is the 2nd oldest grandson. He's spent his life in the Marines since he left the ranch, but not hes returning home to form a new relationship with his older brother and to help his grandmother with the ranch. Since his return there is a new vet in town that has caught his eye, but he may have put his foot in his mouth at their first meeting and will need to work a little harder to gain her affection. It might not help that his past come knocking on the door when he least expects it.

In love with the series, would recommend to anyone who likes a good looking cowboy who respects his grandma.

I purchased a copy of the novel The maverick Cowboy: Morgan Ranch book 2 by Kate Pearce and this review is given freely.
Interesting, actioned packed and at times funny, book 2 in the Morgan family saga contains more than the steamy story of Marine Blue aka BB Morgan with the vet Jenna and the search for answers regarding his mother and sister's disappearance. This is well written and at times emotional novel filled with topics such as recovering from addiction, forgiveness, self worth after adoption and the prejudice against women vets. Balancing out the more serious topics are Jenna and her gossipy fun loving friends, the introduction to brother number three Ry, the preparation for Chase and January's wedding, and realistic family moments.

Really good, engrossing. Surprisingly, this book ends in a HFN, sorta. I sure hope Ms. Pearce wraps up Jenna and Blue’s love story in the next volume. It was great to read about the ongoing mystery of the Morgan brothers’ mom, January & Chase, Ruth, etc. I liked how the plot moppet was handled - it felt more realistic than all the drama. I think my favourite was Jenna. Her painful past, the rejections she has faced, her simultaneous strength and fragility - it was all so very relatable.

A cowboy-turned-marine turns back into a cowboy and starts a tensionless will-they-won’t-they romance with the veterinarian working for his family’s ranch.

Thoughts:
- Heavy-handed plot points dropped in from previous book
- Lackluster descriptions for characters and settings alike
- Number of unexpected twists could cause whiplash
- Smut scenes and sexual tension are the stars of the show; the plot not so much
- Clunky dialogue, out of place vocabulary, and grammatical errors require re-reading passages to understand what is actually happening
