Chicago is burning, a rebellion rises, but that’s the least of Carrie’s concerns. Patrolman Simmons is assigned new partners who threaten the security and secrecy of Carrie's clan. Tensions are high, lines are drawn, and Carrie feels a wedge growing between her and Greg.
Haunted by past mistakes and impending tragedies, Greg knows he should distance himself from Carrie. He knows he should let her love the patrolman who can save her and her siblings, especially with money and resources dwindling. But knowing and doing are different matters. He's busy hatching a plan to salvage things when his citizenship backfires, and he’s asked to do the unthinkable. In this stunning follow-up to Life, loved ones are lost, allegiances are tested, and old enemies plot revenge. At every turn, the citizens of Logan Pond must ask:
What price would you pay for the liberty of those you love?
CITIZENS OF LOGAN POND (Life, Liberty, The Pursuit) is a dystopian romance trilogy set in the not-too-distant future, perfect for readers of all ages. "A piece that should be required reading for young and old alike."- In D'tale Magazine

I think readers who enjoyed the first book in the series will enjoy this one too. You could probably read it as a stand-alone book, but I think it works much better as a series.
I won't say much about the plot for fear of spoiling it, but my favorite parts were about the old government and the rebellion.
This second book in the series is near to my heart for many reasons. We get to see the developing relationship of Carrie and Greg, how Oliver is accepted more in the clan, and how one evil man in the wrong place can cause everyone serious grief.
I also love this book because it spends more time with my favorite character, Greg. He's ready to shine and be the hero. He's also ready--and long overdue--for some happiness. If book one seems to be Carrie's book, book two is definitely Greg's. I hope you enjoy!
This is book 2 in the Citizens of Logan Pond Series. This series explores the idea of life in America under a corrupt government after the economy has crashed and freedoms are stolen. In Life, you meet all the illegal citizens of Logan Pond who are surviving by living close to May and CJ (who have yellow cards and are tax paying citizens). When government sweeps occur, all 34 of them crowd into CJ’s house to avoid detection. A police officer, Oliver Simmons, helps them too since he’s in love with 23 year old Carrie, an illegal living in the community. He warns them of upcoming raids and helps them get food and other necessary items when he can. In Liberty, Greg, the man Carrie truly loves, is drafted into the government forces. As he struggles to survive ‘boot camp’ as a branded rebel, life doesn’t get easier for those left behind in Logan Pond.
I don’t want to blow any secrets, but just let me say that this book is truly intense. The scariest part for me is that I can relate to this scenario because the author has made the situation so realistic that I’m tensing at any noise at night and worrying whether I’m going to get enough food for my family or praying that Greg makes it back alive from the government camp. I also thanked God for my freedoms and liberty after reading this. Some horrific situations are brought out in this sequel as the characters continue to struggle to survive the tyranny of corrupt leaders who have taken all liberty away. This story makes you want to stand up and fight for the freedoms we already have and not let any corrupt, uninspired leader whittle away our basic rights to exercise religion, to pursue happiness, and believe as our conscience dictates.
This book ends quite abruptly, setting up book 3, The Pursuit, which will conclude the series. The cliff hanger isn’t completely bad, because the main problem is solved, but a new one arises right at the end that left me feeling a bit breathless and wheezy with fear for the characters. I usually hate cliffhangers, but will forgive the author for this one, because the story line is complex and it’s a great lead into the next book with its title. This series is amazing—the action is fast and furious; the characters grow a lot and I really care for them; and the writing is clean with no errors that I found. I definitely recommend this book. It’s the type of book that leaves you thinking long after you finish…and I love that!
I love dystopia and this series is fantastic!! This is the second book in the series and you really need to read the first book to understand what's happening. These scenarios are realistic. Carrie lives in a clan which is hiding from the government. There are only a few legal residents among them. The group works together and have already gotten out of some sticky situations. In this book, the hits keep coming. There were times I was nervous for them and wondered what direction this book was possibly going to take.
I love Greg and Carrie and watching their relationship develop. I also grew to love Oliver more, too. He's a patrolman that watches out for her clan. We learn more about the sacrifices he's made to keep them safe and the lengths he will go to in order to help Carrie. I've enjoyed getting to know the citizens of Logan Pond and am glad that there's more to their story.
This book ends on a cliffhanger and involves a character that scares me. I was ready to start in on the final book right away, but it won't be out until August 15th and yes, I've already pre-ordered my copy. If you enjoy dystopia, this is a must-read series!!
I received a copy of this book via eBooks for Review for an honest review. My opinion is 100% my own.
I won a copy on the LDS Summer Book Trek 2015 and this in no way influenced my review. This is Book 2 in the series and you definitely have to read Life first. Liberty picks up right where the reader was left hanging.
There's evidence that a rebellion is rising and life in the clan is taking a turn for the worse. Oliver, the officer assigned to their area has new partners and things are getting tougher to deal with, especially where food and money are concerned. Relationships are tested, formed, and broken and it's all this clan can do to keep things together.
Carrie is a leader of sorts and is struggling to raise her younger brother and sister, all while trying to figure out what's best for those around her. I really like Carrie. She's an introvert, but exerts herself when she has to, which is a lot like how I am. She's very compassionate and sacrifices her own wants and needs often. She seems to assume a lot and interprets things in a way that isn't always accurate. She is flawed, but in an endearing way.
I really don't want to give things away that happen with this story, but I will say that I was completely stunned at how good it is! I marveled at the creativity it took to write this story and was mesmerized at just how bad things got. The story and characters gripped me in a way that had me feeling very on edge and the intensity of the situations just oozed off of the pages. The sad thing is, this story felt so realistic. Things were happening that I could visualize happening in our own world and society in the not so distant future and it really scared me. There were some characters that I was scared to death of, on behalf of some of my favorite characters, of course. There were situations that had me angry and nervous over and I couldn't figure out how things could possibly work out. Of course, I was left hanging once again, which really is good, but wow. What an amazing and incredible story!
Content: death, mild-moderate violence (not really graphic); no religious elements or language that I can recall; mild romance. I would consider this clean for an older reader--16+.
This is the second book in the Citizens of Logan Pond series. I would highly recommend reading the first book, Life, before you delve into this book. The books are dependent on each other and you would be missing so much if you didn't read them in order. This is a dystopian book, set in the future of America.
I had a hard time with the main character, Greg, in the first book. I didn't like him very much. I have to admit that he grew on me a bit in this book but he still isn't my favorite. I am grateful for the gentle shift in his attitude though. It was much easier to find and attach myself to those redemptive qualities in this book.
This book brings all kinds of hardship and struggle to the characters of Logan Pond. The story line really picks up and tensions increase. It was like the first book was completely meant to introduce characters and set the stage for this book. I did enjoy this book more than the first and boy, did it leave off in a doozy of a way. Talk about a cliffhanger! I will be picking up the third book in this series for sure. It's on my review schedule for the first week of January and I'm looking forward to the climactic conclusion!
Content: Some violence but otherwise clean.
I was given a copy of this book by the author. A positive review was not required and all opinions expressed are my own.
The second novel in the Citizens of Logan Pond series, Liberty, continues the story of the Logan Pond Clan. It is filled with adventure and romance as a rebellion against the president of the country arises and citizens and squatters alike must pick a side to be on. This page turning, action packed novel will keep readers wanting to know what will happen next, especially with a cliff-hanger ending. I would recommend this novel to readers of futuristic/dystopian novels that also enjoy adventure and romance along the way.

What a great book! I liked it much more than the first one, though I didn't expect to have to wait for a third book to finish the story! Seriously, the suspense is killing me, and I don't want to wait until next year for the final part of the story. I will also admit that I stayed up really late reading this book multiple nights because I couldn't put it down. There were so many plot twists that my interest was always piqued. Definitely a great read that I would highly recommend!
I was so excited for the follow up to Life and Liberty did not disappoint. I was pulled into the story and couldn't put it down. I love Belliston's characters, as always. As I read I forget that they aren't real people. Actually, I'm still not convinced that they are fictional. Great second book in a great series! The end definitely left me ready for Book 3!
Loved this second book in the Citizens of Logan Pond Series. Carrie is very self reliant but still needs and wants the help from two men in her life. I was surprised by several plot twists that extended my questions of who she might end up with. Look forward to reading more of her story because it ended with a big cliff hanger.
I am loving this series. It's so intense I can't even sleep at night! And I stay up wayyy too late reading them! So good and clean. I love it. On to the next book.
Ahhhhhhhhhh!!! That ending...I'm dying. Jamansky can't know where Carrie lives! Ok that's a little bit of a spoiler for those of you who have read the first book and working on the second but don't worry it doesn't give away a lot!
Here's another series I've started that I am waiting (trying to be patient) for the final book or just the next book. I need to know now what happens...Oliver you're awesome and I want to make sure you're ok. Are you? Carrie, Greg, Amber, Zach, the clan, will you survive or are you all going to have to give up everything you have left to disappear?
Oh I can't handle the cliffhanger. Be warned people, it's a cliffhanger but oh so worth it that I will try to handle my desire to know what's coming!!! Trying...
Wow! If you're reading this review I'm assuming you already read book 1, Life, so be warned that I'm going to be writing assuming you have. If you can't remember the first book you can find my review for it here. If you don't want to know only read everything above this little disclaimer and you're good. But I won't write too many spoilers so if you do decide to continue reading, the book will still be a surprise for you!
Man, all I can think about is the ending. I even just reread the last page and I am really anxious to find out what happens to these characters that I've come to love. At the beginning of the book there's a lot of tension because Jeff has been cast out of the clan, Jenna has died and Greg is stirring the clan up trying to get them to make some changes to help protect them when/if Oliver can't or won't continue to protect them.
Greg and his mom, Mariah, have become yellow card holders in the first book meaning that they are free to travel into town, actually they are required to go into town to check in once a month. Mariah's health has declined yet she is happy as she has just recently married Richard, which means that he has become a yellow card holder as well. This is supposed to help the clan but it feels like it takes them one step forward and several back.
Greg and Carrie's relationship starts to progress past friendship yet Greg is being forced to volunteer with the government to protect the country against all the rising attacks from the rebels. Wow, it's really starting to get crazy and intense. Oliver is struggling to help the clan/group due to so many conflicts of his boss as well as having two, yes two, new partners to hide everything from. He also senses that Carrie is really falling for Greg. It's sad to see those scenes from his perspective because he's such a great character. He would do anything for Carrie and her clan because he truly is good. As Greg leaves the clan he has Carrie promise to allow her feelings to grow for Oliver and see if there is truly anything that could happen between them because Greg knows Oliver can provide for her better than he can.
So much occurs and I don't want to spoil it for you except to tell you a couple more things, more to set up the excitement for you and the suspense. Greg is put into some seriously scary situations because of his connection to Ashlee, and her boyfriend/boss is not happy about that. Can he return to the clan, and can he continue to protect Carrie? Will he ever announce his true feelings for her or will he stay away forever and let Oliver care for her? Will Carrie do as Greg asked and truly listen to her feelings and see if there could be a great future for Oliver? Will Oliver ever tell Carrie his secret? How will she react if he does? Will the Citizens of Logan Pond be safe in their homes or will they all be forced out, or worse will they all end up dead due to what the President is planning for the country? Will Carrie be safe from Jamansky? Will the clan be safe from Jamansky? Oliver...oh Oliver. Greg, what choice will you make?
Lots of questions, which I enjoy posing in my reviews for books but I'm hoping that all those questions will peek your interest and help you decide wether or not you are going to pick up this book, or this series for that matter. I feel that it is getting better and better the further in I get and I really honestly am super anxious, nervous, and excited about the next book.
I received a review copy in exchange for an honest review.
Please note that if you have not read the first book in this series there are spoilers to the first book in this review!
Liberty by Rebecca Belliston is the second book in Citizens of Logan Pond series and I honestly CANNOT handle it’s ending right now!!! I’m dying over here! When does The Pursuit come out?! So this book picks up a few weeks after Mariah and Richard’s wedding. Carrie knows her choice, Oliver knows her choice, and Greg is in denial! But Carrie knows her heart and refuses to give up on Greg when there are so many other things she’s lost. That wall Greg has around his heart is starting to crumble thanks to Carrie and his grandmother’s insistence. He knows what he wants conflicts with what the clan needs. He’s willing to step back and give it all up, but what will it cost him?
As much as I love Carrie and Greg, Oliver stole my heart this book. Oliver Simmons is the mid-thirties patrolman and protector of the Logan Pond clan. He keeps them safe, warns them about sweeps, and is madly in love with Carrie Ashworth. He knows she doesn’t love him, but he can’t tell his heart that. He’s kind, shy to the extreme, and is starting to question his life as a patrolman. Without him, the Logan Pond clan wouldn’t exist, but what about the others he’s forced to arrest and take in? What would happen to them if he protected them like those at Logan Pond?
Carrie has grown a bit of a backbone thanks to Greg in this book. She’s willing to stand up for herself and is finding her place in this new world. Greg is starting to find himself again, or at least the person he was before he lost his baby sister. But then he’s drafted by the government and suddenly he finds himself wanting to run again. But could he be more help to the clan like Oliver if he was with the government? Couldn’t he send his money back to them? And what about Carrie? He could give her citizenship, fight for her, love her like he wants too.
The plot of this one focuses on the rebellion which was mentioned in passing during the first book. “Live free or die” that’s the motto and it’s being thrown around as rebels attack different government facilities. Greg and even Oliver question what they can do to help the rebellion. The clan wants no part of it. Oliver gives them too much safety. But after Greg’s draft notice, people begin questioning. They thought yellow “carries” were safe, obviously they were wrong. Like the first book, this one is fast-pace and suspenseful and yet not. It’s character-driven but this one is more focused on what is happening outside Logan Pond rather than what is happening inside.
Overall I really enjoyed this one! It’s thought-provoking, stressful at times, and left me wanting more. AND THAT ENDING!!!!! I cannot handle it. That is one of the worst cliffhangers ever!!! If you enjoy dystopians, character-driven plots, and looking for a cleanish read, I highly recommend this one!
I REALLY enjoyed Life (Book 1 of the Citizens of Logan Pond trilogy), so I was very excited to get the chance to review Book 2.
You definitely need to read Life before reading Liberty. It might stand on its own (I read it quite awhile after reading Book 1 and it felt like enough back story was given that you wouldn't be lost), but you would be missing out. In fact, I went back and re-read Life after reading Liberty, and then I read Liberty again!
The dystopian setting pulls you in. Carrie and her clan are living in the United States as illegals because when the stock market crashed and banks failed, her family and most of her neighbors lost everything. They could live under tight government rule, but wanted freedom, so they're squatters in their own homes, and have to hide from government patrols. Liberty takes place at a time that many illegals (and even some in the three different classes in society) are rebelling against the government.
The characters are so real. Carrie is such a good person. She's always helping others, even when people in her clan don't treat her well. Greg is good in many ways too, but that isn't really the quality that draws you to him. He's smart and hard working, not to mention attractive and mysterious. You can't help but want to Carrie and Greg to get together, but then there's Oliver. So much emotion going on in this series! Some love triangles just bug me, but there is so much more to this story than just possible romances. It's a fight for survival!
The ending is a total cliff hanger! I don't typically like that, but as I mentioned, I enjoyed the book so much I've already read it twice. I can't wait to read The Pursuit. It won't be out until sometime in 2016, but the way things were left I definitely want to find out how Carrie, Greg, and the rest of the clan find their happiness.
The cover art from the author's website is great too. If you like dystopian novels, be sure to check out Citizens of Logan Pond.
I enjoyed reading the first book in this trilogy, Life, so I was way excited when this book was released a few weeks ago to be able to find out what happened to Greg, Carrie and their families. This book scared me just a little bit, the way that the government is after those who they don't consider legal is really scary. It seemed as though it was something that could really happen somewhere though, I'd have to say that Rebecca Belliston did an amazing job of writing about the government.
I really like the characters of Greg, and Carrie. They love each other, but neither really wants the other one to know for various reasons. I really like the way that their family is written, there are people that are friends with Greg or Carrie, but there are also people that don't like them for some reason, or annoy them, just like in real life. There were several parts in this book that made me sad, so many senseless things happen when the government takes control the way it did in this book.
I have to say, the ending was a super crazy cliffhanger! Can't wait to read the next book to find out what happens!
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book. Yes, it is somewhat depressing and aggravating but it is a dystopian novel. There are times that you want to reach through the book and ring some of the characters' necks! There are so many setbacks and frustrations that happen, but there are also so many wonderful things that happen between the characters. Jamansky's character makes me want to scream- I really don't like him, But Greg is so amazing and poor Oliver, I don't know what to think about him. He is so sweet and has a heart of gold. I'm anxious to hear about Ashlee's story in the third book and this book ends in a total cliffhanger that I can't wait to find out what happens and how it all comes together in the end. There is some violence but there is no sex and no bad language which I was grateful for. This is a book that I had a hard time putting down and just wanted to keep reading. It is just as good as the first one in the series- very descriptive and makes you feel like you are right there with the characters. When they have setbacks, you feel the pain of them. When they have fantastic moments, you feel like they are happening to you.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Oh. My. Goodness. Liberty is an excellent sequel to Life. I really liked that this book focused more on Greg, like this part of the trilogy was his time to shine in the narrative- though it does make me wonder who the focus of The Pursuit will be (I’m hoping it will be Oliver). The story of this dystopian ‘not too distant future’ continued to progress in a way, that quite frankly is haunting in how plausible it is. The intensity definitely was kicked up a notch while the romance-angst was limited much to my relief. The book most definitely leaves off on a cliffhanger that has left me feeling quite bereft. However, there were quite a few things to digest and consider about what could be happening next to tide me over until the next book is released. For example, I really enjoyed the character development- more specifically; being able to see how certain characters became more tangible. I was most impressed by the direction some characters took, and terrified by some of the plot developments; but most of all, I look forward to seeing what happens next.
WHAT??? You can't end a book like that. Oh wait, lots of books end with a cliff hanger. So just go in knowing you will want book 3 ASAP! Unfortunately, I didn't! I will just have to wait! This is book two in a trilogy. If you haven't read book 1 (Life) you really need to read it before reading this one. They build on each other. (just like you wouldn't read Insurgent before reading Divergent) This doesn't give any back story, it just starts right into the action--which I really liked! Carrie is still stuck in her love triangle with Greg and Oliver. Juggling what is best for themselves versus what is best for the group isn't always an easy choice. This book has a little bit of everything: loved ones are lost, allegiances are tested, and old enemies plot revenge. I enjoyed this story, despite the cliff hanger ending. While some of the characters have come into their own, I felt like Carrie was still too indecisive. Greg and Oliver have found their footing, but Carrie still can't figure it out. I look forward to the final installment of this trilogy.
"Liberty"-book 2 of Citizens of Logan Pond, picks up where book 1 left off. It took me a couple of chapters to remember the characters and story line since its been awhile since I've read book 1. I absolutely loved this book and it ended on a nail biting scene which left me wanting and waiting for book 3!
This was a clean, dramatic, fiction book taking place in a time where the USA is in rebellion and life is nothing like how we live now.
I liked the love triangle between Greg, Simmons, and Carrie. Danger awaits them at every turn and tragedy can strike at any time. The story kept me on the edge of my seat and I didn't put it down until I was done. I absolutely loved it!! (and I'm so glad my life isn't like theirs in the book!)
I received a copy of this e-book complimentary from the author in exchange for an honest review on my blog and social media. All opinions are my own.
Book 2 in the Logan’s Pond series starts right where Book 1 ended. I highly recommend reading book 1 first. I did and really enjoyed the seamless transition. Carrie Ashworth is in love with Greg Pierce. But Greg keeps pushing her toward Oliver, the Patrolman that has kept the illegal members in Carries’ neighborhood safe since the collapse of the US government, six years ago. Yes, Oliver seems to be in love with Carrie but he is so shy. She wants to do as the clan wants her to do but her heart just isn’t giving up on Greg. The clan feels that if Carrie tells Oliver how she feels about Greg, Oliver might turn them into the authorities and they would all become blue card holding slaves. Because Greg’s grandparents are home owners, he is able to get a yellow card like they have and be legal residents. However, the 29 other members of the clan can’t hide out in the one legal house all the time. The characters are likable and the story is fast paced. Warning – a CLIFF HANGER!
This is a dystopian novel and the second in a series. I did not read the first book, but was able to pick up this one without being lost. A police officer, Oliver Simmons, helps the citizens of Logan Pond. The book explores the relationship with Oliver, Greg and Carrie and the 3 classes of citizens under the dictatorship of the new America.
Rebecca Belliston completely captured my attention with this compelling dystopian trilogy. As life continues among the citizens of Logan Pond, things turn from bad to worse. The connection between Greg and Carrie is fraught with tension and I couldn’t wait to see what direction it would take. I was pulled into each of these realistic character’s stories as if they were my friends or relatives. I honestly could not put this story down.
This is a beautifully and simply told story and I can’t wait to read more.
So hooked on this series, I love it so much!!! Liberty picks up where Life left off and there is even more drama and stress. While reading you keep thinking that the story will take you one way then BAM something else happens and then you're thinking, I can't handle anymore. This book will keep you on your toes, your heart will break, you'll be sweating bullets and loving every minute. I can't wait for Pursuit!
Page turner with lots of twist and turns. This book will keep you up all night reading. You'll try and lay it down, you'll try and walk away from it but you won't be able to, this book has a way of drawing you back in. Well written with lively characters! This is the 2nd book in the series and dose have a cliffhanger, so I suggest that this series be read in order.
I love this book! End of the world/ dystopian books are some of my favorites, and this one did not disappoint. I love the characters, and love seeing their growth through the books.
Book 2 continues the story of Carrie and Greg and the Citizens of Logan Pond. Pieces of earlier events, told in Book 1, are sprinkled through the story, but Book 2 is best read after reading Book 1. It’s still a sweet futuristic romantic suspense, but the suspense is rising to a happy pause . . . and the epilogue turns it into a cliffhanger. Vividly written, I hesitated to jump right into Book 3, but (obviously) had to know what happens to these gentle people who haven’t yet found their HEA.
I gave this 3 stars because I wasn’t happy about the cliffhanger and conflicted about reading Book 3, but the HEA is in Book 3, so had to press forward. (The HEA *is* in Book 3 . . . just sayin’.
This was book 2 of the Citizens of Logan Pond series. So much happened in this book. I almost wondered if I’d read two books without realizing it.
This isn’t really a light read, it’s about people struggling to survive in a corrupt world. And the start of rebellion to get back basic human rights and freedoms. Because of this, I found it took me a while to finish this book. It’s really well written and the story is well done. But it wasn’t something I was wanting to pick up and read to the end immediately.
