A beautiful book. Most of the classic and some lesser known examples of the evidence for the evolution of life on Earth.

Beautiful, though not quite as insightful as expected

Gorgeous photos.
There are frequent references to the glory of specific animals, always misattributed.
Not a record of evolution. It just points out unique aspects of each animal and says:
"Look what evolved" or "this is natural selection". There's postulation about the ancestors of animals, but even then often they're not sure and there is no kind of record.
It attempts to demonstrate natural selection, which isn't disputed (though it sets that up early as a straw man suggesting people believe animals have been unaltered since the flood).
No record of macroevolution is given.
Sometimes it shows the opposite: e.g. the genes are there but natural selection caused prosperity amongst cave fish with smaller eyes and then no eyes, rather than any information growth.

This was referenced in a book I read recently. In What You Are Looking For Is in the Library, a manga artist finds renewed inspiration in the images. I was telling my son about it and got it to show him, since he is also an artist who loves to draw manga. I didn't read any of the text, but there are some beautiful photos of animals.

Beautiful pictures with great descriptions. Good, casual introduction into the phenomenon of evolution.
