Six years after the events of "Shatterproof" There will always be a special place in your heart for the father of your child. Natalie Meyers had heard it a million times, but when her ex, Scott, relapsed, she found that hard to believe. Years later, she has found the perfect man in her new boyfriend, Daniel, and he's promising her the world. He's giving her something she had never had before: stability. He loves her daughter as his own and treats them both like queens. But, when Scott returns from rehab, Natalie wanders too far down memory lane. Treading on thin ice, she gets closer and closer to the life they had once shared at the risk of her own recovery. Confronting the past and its demons has never been as difficult as it is now, and her life with Daniel and the life of her child are more uncertain than ever.
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a solid 3.5 stars for me, so of course I have to round up to 4.
There were a few grammatical errors in my copy that drew me out of the story, and once or twice there was the usage of words that didn't quite fit, but those things are easily fixable in another round of edits.
As for the story itself, I was really excited to find out what was next to for Natalie, Breelyn, and Scott. I must admit, I was not sympathetic to Natalie this time around. She could not seem to make up her mind as to what she wanted, and her reasoning for flipping back and forth between Daniel and Scott seemed justified to her, it happened so quickly and almost at the drop of a hat, it made me almost dislike her. Perhaps that was intentional? I don't know, I got the feeling that as a reader, we were supposed to understand and be empathetic to why Natalie made the decisions she did, but instead, I just wanted to smack her. Haha!
My prejudices against flighty-ness aside, I think Rianne Moss does a good job of telling "real life" stories. I look forward to reading more of her work in the future.
You don't have to read the first book to like and understand this one, but I really suggest you do. Book one tells of Natalie and Scott's life and the fight with addiction. In book two Natalie has cleaned up her act, has a daughter, Breelyn, and a new boyfriend, Daniel. But life is never simple and Natalie is going to go through challenges and trials as she tries to figure out what life holds for her and Breelyn. I found this book interesting and if you don't know about addiction, enlightening. The author does a great job telling this story of love, life and hard decisions. She has a great writing style that makes a long book feel like a quick read and I think readers should grab both books, sit back and enjoy!
I read the first book from this series and I have to say I liked this book better. The main character Natalie is off drugs and moving on with her life. The story line was good but I felt it dragged on at times. Natalie at times was acting like a high school girl and couldn't figure it stuff out, this annoyed me. There were some grammar errors but it did not ruin the story.
