Amazing book and an incredible resource!!
I was completely impressed reading this book. As a psychologist, I read many self-help manuals and numerous research articles. 'Achieve' stands out as one of the more refreshing and engaging books I've read in a long time. One of the things I liked most about this book was the philosophy that success (in all areas of our lives) depends on our ability to understand, accept, and integrate all aspects of our personality. Often we reject the parts of ourselves that we deem "unsuccessful"; however, Dr. Freisen demonstrates that success is born out of the ability to leverage our strengths WHILE working with the more challenging aspects of our personalities. The book is full of exercises, analogies, and skills that help the reader better understand themselves, learn more about what really interests them, and tips on how to use that knowledge to move forward. Dr. Friesen uses his own personal story, top research findings, and the experiences of his clients to provide a road map for motivation and success. This book is well written, concise, and completely engaging. I am going to be recommending this book to my clients and my friends. I'll be watching for the next in the series. Well done!

This is a very meaty book jam-packed with so much information its hard to explain it in one paragraph. As a retired social worker, I found the content to be everything a really good vocational coach should be telling someone who is struggling to achieve more in their life. There are plenty of self-help worksheets to help you to find your Why, What & How. Most people go through periods in their lives when they find themselves self-sabotaging their own success in life. So how do you change that? How do you motivate yourself when you are not really sure what you want? How do you really decide what you want in life? How do you step away from the expectations that others place on your life and take that risk and jump into doing what you really want to be doing? We all need to motivate ourselves to achieve. We all want to be a success. This book needs to be on every bookshelf with every professional in the counselling field. Help your clients, get one for yourself and a dozen for your clients.

I love this book! Its about getting to know yourself so you can go in the direction you want, and succeed! And its done with a combination of science, personal experience of the author, plus tried and tested results, all linked in together to create a truly quality book.
One of my favourite lines is "Whatever the dream, the principles are the same. You only get one shot at this life, so make the best of it. No regrets."
Essentially knowing your purpose or mission is the key to achieving your goals and dreams, and Dr Chris Friesen gives the necessary tools and detailed strategies to those fleeting thoughts... or dreams of success... and turns them into full forward action! The author understands that we have less time to fit extra things into our busy lives and has created his book and accompanying worksheets with this in mind.
I can highly recommend 'Achieve' as inspiring and definitely not one to miss.
Unleash the motivation... the inner you... and grab a toolkit for life! For your life!

Dr Friesen explains goal setting from a completely different perspective compared to the "standard" types of goal oriented books that are on the market.

He goes deeply into what are called the 5 Personality Tendancies (something I'd never come across before), and explains how understanding your personality, values, and purpose are crucial in setting goals that are not just high & lofty dreams. He encourages the reader to take stock of who they truly are in all of those areas so that they can shape goals that are in line with their true self.

Dr Friesen cites a host of scientific and psychological information to back up his methodologies and he includes real case studies to show how they work in real life. He then explains step by step, how to craft and execute your goals using his methodology.

I will definitely be revisiting my own goals in the light of some of the new information uncovered in this book and would highly recommend it to anyone who is serious about actually setting and achieving important goals in their life.

Excellent book that closes the gap between science of success/top-performance and the reality of our lives. Unlike many authors, Chris Friesen tells us how it is: it's not like we can all achieve success just simply by wanting to achieve it and 'changing the mindset'. He explains how the differences in the way we're made up (various personality traits) influence our path to success, and what we need to focus on to achieve our goals. This book helps the reader discover those traits and then shows how to use them to succeed. It's a guide to your own, personalised path to top performance.

The book is written in an easy-to-read and understand way. It contains examples from Dr Friesen's work with top performers and exercises to help readers find who they are, what they really want and how to make it happen.

I'm looking forward to the next books in the series!

This book was a great combination of real life examples both from Dr. Friesen and his clients, practical information as well as personal 'workshops'. As someone who does not have a background in academia, I quite enjoyed the plain language explanations of how the brain functions during different emotions/situations.
I would also suggest following Dr. Friesen on his Facebook page as he posts really great articles related to brain health, mindfulness and achieving your best self.

Dr. Friesen's website also has additional tips to help you improve your motivation, confidence and productivity. http://friesenperformance.com/
Looking forward to book number two!

This is such an amazing book. With so many self-help gurus out there professing to have the answers and giving out cliche advice (i.e. just BE more confident!), Chris uses his background in performance psychology to breakthrough the myths and pseudo-science of personal develop to give you a plan that WORKS! If you want to know what really unlocks your potential so you can crush it in life, then this book is for you! Dr. Friesen has taken the time to write a book that cuts through the B.S. and gives practical steps to become a high-achiever! - Ted Ryce

Amazing book! Not only the exercises were extremely helpful to identify my personality tendencies, but also this is science-based research on behavioural patterns by identifying the parts of the brain structure that condition some aspects, and reactions, of our personality.
