No one can say when the end is near. It can come from a plague, warfare, or a natural disaster. For the people of Siril, the end of their world came from space. The massive solar flare that collided with their planet wasn’t something they could prepare for, or prevent. Millions perished instantly, and those that survived looked to the stars in steel-eyed defiance.
Karincin’s life has been dominated by familial expectations, duty, and celibacy. He attended all of the correct schools, won the worthy awards, and leads a cutting edge team at the Department of Space. His life is going exactly as planned, until he’s assigned a mate.
Aevum is nothing like he expected. She’s free-spirited, passionate, and doesn’t adhere to Karincin’s pre-arranged life. She challenges everything he’s been taught to believe, and awakens supressed desires he didn’t know he had.
He was never prepared for such an irrational craving as lust.
After his planet is ravaged by natural disaster, Karincin is selected as one of 12 scouts to be sent into space to discover the looming peril to his people. It is a great honor, and one the Sirilian people desperately need him to perform. But it will make him choose between his life’s work, and his own awakened heart.
What awaits him in the void of space? And if he goes, would he ever return to the woman he loves?
Warning: contains scenes of erotic sex between two consensual (and eager) adults, and may make you crave smart, tech-savvy men OR spunky women.

I realized I posted my review only on Amazon and not here...oops.
I have been waiting patiently for Ms. Krizek to release a new book. I thoroughly enjoyed her Arathians series which has some ties to this book. Ms Krizek did not disappoint.
Karo is a member of the upper social class and is stuck in his scientific customs and rituals. Everything is by the book. When it is time for him to take a mate, he follows tradition and accepts a genetic pairing. Aevum is his total opposite. She is a free spirit, comes from a lower class, and enjoys traveling the galaxy and meeting new cultures. When the two are initially paired, you can imagine the conflicts that arise. But Karo soon finds his awakening...love not just compatibility. The two begin to realize that though they may have different ideals, they can definitely find common ground and develop a beautiful relationship.
The setup of the book flashes between past and present. It took me a few chapters to realize what was going on but then I had no trouble following. The past is Karo and Aevum's blooming love. I don't want to give too much away about the present, but after Karo is set adrift in his ship, the Arathians help to rescue him. He struggles to remember what has happened and who this mysterious woman is he keeps dreaming of. As a romance reader, I wished there was a little more of the romance part. A lot of the book took place in the present. However, it was still interesting and engaging enough to keep me reading straight through. I HAD to know what was going to happen and how it would play out. I desperately needed a happy ending.
So, overall, I really enjoyed this story and can't wait to see what's next in this new series.
I was given an ARC by the author for an honest review.
This book was worth the wait.I enjoyed the other three books with the Arathians. This spinned off from the last book in this series. It actually had a some surprises to it. I wonder what the next book entails. Maybe Karo's friend Reus will be in the next one. Who knows.
I feel a little adrift because I didn't know about the Sicilian books until I read book 4 of the Arathian series. Adrift is good in its own right and can be read as a stand alone however I suggest you read the Arathian book 3.
This installment is such a vast improvement over the original series that I felt required to comment. While still sexy this story has the heart and soul needed to move it to the next level. I could not figure out how our hero and heroine would get their HEA. I had lots of guesses, but not a clear answer which had been the case in the original series. But the most improved was the character developments allowing the reader to truly identify and empathize with the characters.
It’s great to see an author grow and take us on the voyage with them.
I read this book and was confused at first about the past and future jumping back and forth. It was a mystery how the past and future were going to pan out. It then became frustrating not knowing how Karo ended up where he was. By the end you feel Karo's pain and need and the ending made all those feelings worth it. Good read.
DNF. Story telling seems to jump timelines without notice, I think some chapters were set in present day, and some jumped back to when Karo and Aevum first met 20 years earlier. I think. The story telling was so confusing, and I just don't care to figure it out so I can continue reading.
