Haunted by a tragic accident that yanked his beloved wife from his side, Kristoffer Roar Larson has been going through the motions in life. But when he meets the dedicated surgeon and humanitarian, Pamela Jeffrey, he feels an undeniable connection to her, stirring feelings he’d buried long ago. After encountering her in a compromising position on a tour of a BDSM academy, he realizes there’s more to her than meets the eye. Fascinated by her assertive alpha personality, coupled with her desire to submit and serve, Pamela intrigues him.
As Pamela shines light once more into the dark corners of his life, Kristoffer finds himself struggling between remaining in his safe and lonely world or emotionally opening himself up to a vibrant woman, who asks for nothing more than he’s able to give. Guiding her in mind-training exercises to prepare her for some future Dom, Kristoffer finds his body awakening as well. Will Kristoffer be able to close the door to his past and open his heart to the ginger-haired sprite who makes him question everything he once believed?

Maybe I read too many HP's so verra little shocks me anymore, or maybe since I am not going anywhere near the business end of a flogger until after the heat death of the universe, I am just not the target audience for this.
Plus I kinda laughed a lot at the naughty bits - the phrasing was sooo purply prosy and OTT dramatic, I had some very funny images in my head.
Anyways, the big secret shocker deal is that the H has a comatose wife and can't marry the h, so it is a love triangle of sorts cause the wife is brain dead and will never wake up, but the H just can't abandon her, so he has to figure a different way to claim the h, so he collars her.
I think this was supposed to be angsty drama and healing, but the prose was so flowery I was overcome by the laughter.
It is a nice story really, and like I said BDSM really isn't my kink, so while I appreciate the effort, I don't think this is for me.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I know that to understand Roar's story it had to be so long but it could be done with a few chapters less. This is a story of a broken man,who is still strong enough to starts fighting for his chance of happines. Pamela is a sweet woman with her head on the right place. It's not a story of BDSM scenes or other kinky stuff, this is hard, sad and extremly beautiful story of love, loyalty and honor.
I can always use a good laugh. Not that I'm reading the book to accomplish it. I already did with this review and honestly, LMAO. Noting, this is funny to me..MY opinion. I love reviews and spoilers. Most of the time, they make my day.
5 Star Review Roar by Kallypso Masters This is a stand-alone and every book I have read by Kallypso Masters has touched my soul in some way or another; this was no different. The way she layers the storylines is amazing. This book was phenomenal; I absolutely loved it from the first page to the last page. ROAR is a story filled with angst, heartbreak, friendship and the growth of a deep and committed love; one that made my heart pound at times. This book just flows on so many levels; it is hard to do it justice. I felt that I was on an emotional roller-coaster whilst reading this book. There was so much happening in the book I don’t quite know where to start. I often wonder how Ms. Masters comes up with the storylines for her books; each book just seems to get better and better. From early snippets I read, I was fairly certain that I would fall for Kristoffer Roar Larson; how hard I fell was the only real surprise. He comes very close to being my favourite of all Ms. Masters leading men and that is saying something. This was one of the best books I have read. One of the things that I love about Kallypso Masters is that her characters are never one dimensional, there are always so many layers and Kristoffer and Pamela were no exception. Each layer is peeled away, just like an onion. I always knew I would love Kristoffer but Pamela; she really came into her own and surprised me with her adaptability and her unswerving devotion and love. The vulnerability that both Kristoffer and Pamela showed was at times a heart wrenching. Have you ever anticipated a book so much that you were afraid to start reading it? That’s what happened to me with ROAR, I knew if I started I wouldn’t stop and then where would I be? Exactly where I am now - suffering withdrawal yet again and one heck of a book hangover. I enjoyed the BDSM scenes thoroughly, after all it is one of my favourite genres and I am impressed by how much Kallypso Master’s researches the subjects covered in her books; it is these details that make all her books so very special and make them stand out. ROAR made me laugh and cry; my heart broke not only for Kristoffer and Pamela but also for Tori. I did feel at times that the writing was a tad stilted, but I am guessing that that was intentional and more the way of Kristoffer; it in no way detracted from my enjoyment of the book. The relationship between Kristoffer and Pamela, as well as Roar and Sprite was built from a deep and abiding trust and friendship; to me a perfect fit both in and out of the BDSM lifestyle, it was obvious that they share a deep love for one another. Pamela was able to do what Kristoffer and his cousin Gunnar thought would never happen, she brought Kristoffer/Roar back to life and never have I cheered for a happily ever after as I did for these two. This is one book that I highly recommend you purchase and read as soon as you can. Be prepared though for one amazing read that will leave you reeling.
Spoiler Ahead This was a good read that I felt was a little too long at times. Kristoffer "Roar" Larson is haunted by a tragic accident that left his wife in a coma. Kristofferson is a Financial Adviser when he goes to a BDSM academy to look things over for Gunnar he sees Dr. Pamela Jeffrey who was Marc d'Alessio girlfriend in "Nobody's Angel" naked standing in front of the class something awakens in him he can't stop thinking about her. Dr. Pamela Jeffrey is on a break from her work in third world countries she decides to give submission a try she is more like an alpha sub so she enrolls in the academy. This was the same academy that was in another series that I liked. Kristoffer is in a situation that is hard and yet he's still honoring his vows. When Pamela finds a way into his heart, he's tries to fit her in in a way that is perfect for them without dishonoring his wife. I have read this author before this was an emotional read and too long in some place's. The sex scenes were really good. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading about Gunnar.
I wanted to like this book. I've liked the Rescue Me series a great deal but this one didn't work for me. The dialogue felt so fake and while the shoe tragic circumstances made me go WOW. Honestly it got a bit old. I'm 81% done and am pushing myself to finish. I usually read one of these in a day or so. I've been struggling with this one now over a week.
Wow! I loved this book! If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would...
Kristoffer (Roar) is a man deep in grief. His wife is in a vegetative state after a horrible car crash 4 years ago. He goes to visit her every day and can't seem to go on with his life. Enter Pamela, a physician and humanitarian who goes to war torn countries helping the many people suffering. These two start a friendship at first that slowly and realistically turns into something more.
I let the length of this book prevent me from reading it for so long but it is so worth the time spent. Highly recommend.
One man's deep, emotional journey back to living after he self imposed himself into an emotional exile after his wife, the love of his life, is left in a permanent vegetative state after an accident.
As your reading Kristoffer Roar Larson story it does make you think what would you do if the person you loved with all your heart for 20 years is for all intensive purposes gone except for their beating heart. He chose to honor his vows of for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, until death do us part. This took a hearty toll on his soul. This is his story of unexpectedly finding his second soulmate in life and dealing with the guilt of is he dishonoring his vows or is he getting a second chance at love and to live again in the light.
I thought the author did a great job of showing us both sides – How the husband feels and also how his family and friends feel. I dont think there is a right and wrong answer here it was truly heart warming to see when Kristoffer finally gave into his feelings for Pamela. Just because he chose to love another woman again doesnt mean that his love for his first wife is any less.
There is much more to the story that I am telling in this review but I'm going to leave that for the reader to experience themselves. This author has always written great emotional military stories in the past – this one is deep emotional story but of a different kind.
Yes, it really took me some time to read this book - not because I didn't love it, but because it took so much out of me, I kept having to set it aside. Make no bones about it, this book deals with a lot, and with things that aren't normally touched upon. It will poke at you, prod at you, and sometimes make you uncomfortable, but it will make you think, examine and evaluate yourself and your actions and reactions. That is why it took so long, I had to think, what did I think, how did I think and did I need to re-think
Kris and Pamela met at a business meeting through his cousin. Something sparks with them right off, but circumstances aren't right. A few more things happen, and they agree to be friends. Kris has baggage, super duper sized, steam trunk, baggage. Pamela has some issues as well, but hers are pretty standard commitment type issues
Things move along and evolve and he agrees to be her Top, with conditions, to help her deal with her personality quirks. Well, needless to say, the conditions keep a-changing, and things keep developing.
This isn't a sunshine and roses story, but it is a deeply powerful story about love. It is a story about accepting who you are, where you are, and loving those around you. This is a love story, not a romance story, and while there is an HEA, it won't be standard, and that's okay, because Love is what matters in the end
This is completely a stand alone book from the Rescue me series. You do not have to read any of that series to get through the book. You have Kristoffer (Roar) and Pamela who develop a deep friendship while Kristoffer is still grieving the "loss" of his wife and Kristopher's conflict on how to develop the relationship while still keeping his vows. What these two gave each other was truly beautiful to read. Pamela was the most understanding, loving and giving woman and understood what Kristopher could give her. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait for another from the Rescue Me series.
If you are put off by BDSM, don't be afraid to read this book, the play in this book is extremely light.
Maybe as her next stand alone book in the "series" she can bring out Gunner. I can't wait to read about his Dominance!! I bet his will be full of sadistic twisted play!!
Roar had my heart tearing into pieces. This book is soul crushing at time that all you want to do is hug him. His wife ripped from his arms in the matter of minutes but as time goes on she is still there and her body won't give up until he finds his soul mate so she can continue on to the other side. Then Pamela walking into his life unexpectantly first as friends, then he became her dominate and her his submissive as time moved along they had fell in love but was it the right time for him or her? Will there be life changing decisions? If you want to find out you really need to read this book. Kally has became one of my favorite author's of all time her writing flows with such grace that you are one with her characters every feeling they feel, you feel right along with them.
Roar was a total surprise. But like Kally's other books, I definitely have a book hangover. I was surprised that Kristoffer Roar Larson wasn't a soldier, but a Financial Adviser, and he couldn't even shoot a gun! WTF. At least Gunnar has his back. As with the Masters at Arms series this book explores the darkness of loss, depression, and PTSD (yeah, even non military I believe can suffer). I love these characters though, Kris is so focused and is really a great Dom. Pamela is such a giving, nurturing, yet smart alpha woman. Their journey is so emotionally charged. Oh, and the scenes are scorching! PSS, their HEA makes your day!
It's very difficult for me rating and reviewing this book because of the intense and tragic story of Tory and Kristoffer,it is a plot of book but can be reality true. So I can't judge the Kristoffer's behavior also if the Pamela character was more realistic. Told so, I think that the book was too long and missing of passion, chemistry , maybe I hoped in more romance and exciting sex scenes, because also the intercorse and the playing between both protagonist were missing of excitement. Kristoffer was too cool and sorrowful but Pamera was one true submassive, so to the end the very message was magnification of D/s relationship.
Incredible read! Deeply emotional. I felt so deeply for Kristoffer for the pain and grief he suffered for so long. Pamela breathed life back into him and helped him live again. Beautiful, beautiful story.
COMPLETELY CAPTIVATING!!! Title: Roar Author: Kallypso Masters Designation: Full-length Standalone, NO Cliffhanger Genre: Contemporary Romance liberally seasoned with light elements of BDSM Reading Platform: Kindle Edition My Rating: Five Captivating Stars***** Wow! I loved, loved, loved Roar by Kallypso Masters! For the last several years, I kept hearing the name Kallypso Masters mentioned in romance reader groups and among my friends on Facebook. I've wanted to try her work for some time but just never had the opportunity...until now. A few days ago, a good friend offered to loan me a digital copy of Roar through the Amazon Kindle Edition Borrow Program and I jumped at the chance. Thank you, Kim Brown, for your generosity and for knowing me well enough to know how much I would enjoy this book. I will be eternally grateful for this recommendation and have now added Kallypso Masters to my list of all-time favorite authors. As a matter of fact, I enjoyed this book so much that I couldn't stop thinking about it and, several weeks later, I actually purchased it to add to my library so I could read it again and again! Roar is a unique, realistic, superbly crafted and exceptionally well-edited full-length standalone contemporary tale filled to the brim with heated attraction, fiery passion, heartbreaking drama, agonizing angst, unconventional romance and liberally laced with elements of BDSM. But let me be perfectly clear, this is not erotica but at times it is steamy and does contain explicit sex. Although the BDSM elements are an important part of this book, the sexual aspect is secondary to the actual plot and serves only to enrich the story. The sex is not 'the story'. I know that may be a little confusing to some, but I believe most of you know exactly what I'm trying to say. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with alternating his and her perspectives. The dialogue is smart, snappy, seductive, well executed and flows effortlessly. But without a doubt, the pièce de résistance of this compelling saga is the cast of remarkable characters. I don't think I've ever read a book where the characters were so vividly depicted, well portrayed and developed, or moved me so emotionally. I was immediately drawn into this story by the two protagonists, handsome grief-stricken financial advisor Kristoffer Roar Larson and beautiful selfless Doctor Pamela 'Sprite' Jeffrey. I fell in love with both Kristoffer and Pamela and found them to be captivating, intriguing, engaging, relatable and sexy. I was truly impressed by the depth of feeling the author was able to stir in me through her mastery of words. My heart literally broke for these characters. I cried with them, laughed with them, sympathized and empathized with them but by the end, I was happy, satisfied and well entertained. I read some of the reviews for this book before I accepted the borrow and was quite surprised by a few of the comments. Although I do agree with several reviewers in that the narrative moved slowly the first half of the book and was somewhat repetitive and tedious at times, I suspect the author felt the need to justify the choices and actions of the characters to prevent the reader from making preconceived judgments before the story was finished. I understand why the author believed the story must be told this way...and she was correct. This is an extremely unconventional love story and as such needed to be written unconventionally, but it was also one that needed to be told and most definitely needed to be written. Unfortunately, it is a subject avoided by most authors because it veers from what many believe to be traditional or socially acceptable. It may even be considered by some as socially unacceptable unless the story is told slowly, considerately, and explained in a thoughtful but realistic manner so the reader can truly experience the progression of heartache, grief, loneliness and self-imposed exile from life as felt by Kristoffer Larson after losing his beloved wife, Tori. But unlike most people, Kristoffer's loss was ongoing and had been every day for the last four years with no hope to heal since his wife of eighteen years had been in a persistent vegetative state since the automobile accident that stole her from him. Nevertheless, as a result of today's advanced medical technology, it's a situation that does happen and needs to be addressed, honestly and sincerely as it was in this book. Well done, Kallypso Masters...well done, indeed! This may have been my first time reading Kallypso Masters but it certainly won't be my last.
Kristoffer Roar Larson had already experienced great love in his life as well as great loss. He had no desire to experience either again. Unfortunately, it wasn't that simple. After a tragic automobile accident involving him and his wife, he was able to walk away, but sadly she wasn't. For the last four years, his beloved wife, Tori, has remained in a persistent vegetative state with no chance of recovery. Her atrophied and twisted physical body remains anchored to this earth but her awareness has long since passed. He vowed to love and care for her till death and that he would do...no matter how much it killed him every single day. He, too, was dying a slow, lonely death. Since meeting Tori twenty years ago, he had never even been attracted to another woman. They had now been married for eighteen years and he had no intention of ever falling in love again... until the beautiful, feisty and selfless Doctor Pamela Jeffrey blasted his cold dead heart wide open and forced him to live and love again. But will what he has to offer be enough for his vibrant, irresistible 'Sprite'??? I guess we'll see!
Did I Like this book? No, I LOVED it, so much so that I actually purchased it! Even weeks after finishing this novel and submitting my review, I couldn't stop thinking about Roar Larsen and Pamela Jeffrey, so I returned to Amazon and purchased the book for my permanent library, making it possible for me to read it again and again. *sigh* There's nothing better than re-reading a favorite book, reconnecting with beloved characters, and discovering all the little tidbits you missed in the first read-through, and I always find something. Would I recommend it? You bet and I am but only for adult readers! Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
Kallypso Masters once again gives us a beautiful story of love, honor, and loyalty. In this story Kristoffer Roar Larson is hit with the unimaginable when life blindsides him. Sadly he finds out that there are fates worse than death. Our lovely heroine is Dr. Pamela Jeffery who is trying to find herself. Along the way to self discovery she shines a light into the darkness that Kristoffer has allowed to consumed him. Pamela and Kristoffer have the battle of finding an unconventional happiness in a world where judgement is rampant. This couple pulls you through the heart ache and into the happiness is a way that leaves your broken heart healed and full of hope.
I understand that this is a book that contains some kink.... but please be assured that that is only the cherry on top of this beautifully written love story. I urge all lovers of romance to give this a try...... open your mind and heart to the love that this book contains...... We all should be so lucky to find a loving partner that equals that of these two characters.
Such a sad story, yet told in such a realistic and heartfelt way... It feels like a true story told from two points of view, and you can't help but feel sadness as to what Roar has been going through. Pamela seems like just the right person for him in his time of need.
I was confused by the lack of answers from Pamela's mother about why she had left her family when Pamela was younger. This did not seem to feel like true closure to me...
I also found it annoying that although Roar said he was okay with Pamela either choosing to be collared or not (since he would continue to care & love her), that shortly after this he eluded to how if she wasn't ready to be collared certain things could wait until she could trust him. This seemed to be a contradiction since he had originally said that whether he collared her or not, it would not change how he felt about her.
In any case, it was a really excellent story. The scene between Pamela and Tori was quite sad...
ROAR A very pleasant surprise of this book. A standalone in The Rescue me Saga. The book is about discipline and focus. Kristopher is Roar and is caring for his wife who is in a coma. He's been celibate for years, until he met Pamela. He agreed to help discipline her. What an intriguing journey they travel. Different than the other books in the series, but so exquisitely delightful. I can really recommend this book. Roar and Sprite is an awesome read, by a fantastic storyteller
Hmm. Been a huge fan of the author for a long time. I loved her Rescue Me saga and they always got at least a 4 stars from me. I don't hand out 4, never mind 5, starts easily...
This book was very hard work. So very wordy, I really struggled to get through it and kept reading a bit and then putting it down.
What a long, gorgeous book. There is tragedy, which is handled very delicately. There are beginnings of a new life after death. The bdsm and love scenes are wonderful and so is the ending. I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Great, great read.
The things you will need to get through this book are: tissues, wine, and ice cream. Oh, and tell your family they're on their own until you finish!!!
Roar is a standalone, but its characters are side characters from Kallypso's Rescue Me Saga. Kristoffer Roar Larson, is financial adviser to his cousin Gunner. After tragedy struck his marriage his life has been home, work, and the facility that takes care of his beloved wife. Pamela Jeffrey, is a surgeon who goes to other countries to help in war torn areas. She also is a Alpha sub trying to find her way. Working together on a project for Gunner they spend more time together and get to know each other. By spending more time together they learn that Kristoffer is the Dom to help Pamela learn more about herself as a sub and he gets to be the Dom he once was. This is by no means a ménage story in the usual since. While Kristoffer still loves his wife, by getting to know more about Pamela as they work together he learns that he can live again since his wife Tori isn't coming back to him, he's just got to come to grips with the guilt he fills. Pamela knows, as a Dr and as a woman, that Kristoffer isn't going to leave his wife but she can love him and help him deal with the way he feels about finally getting on with is life. Omg, the way that Kristoffer loves Tori is so heartbreaking and the way the Pamela helps deal with him and love him during Tori's rough times is wonderful. I cried sooo many tears during this its not funny. These three people are just beautiful inside and out. Watching Pamela come into her own as a sub, Kristoffer returning to the land of the living, and the to of them with Tori is breathtaking. Even if you've not read any of the Rescue Me Saga, you have to read this story!!!!! If this were s the first Kallypso Masters book you read, you will be hooked and have to read the rest!!

I was given an ARC by the author to read, beta read and review.
I have cried,i have struggled and i have laughed with this book but most of all i have loved it beyond words. This is perhaps the most difficult book i have beta read so far as the changed were many and these characters were very opinionated and wanted things done their way. I love the fact that Kallypso Masters left her characters to walk their way and do things however they wanted to do them....(don't forget Krisstofer Roar Larson is a Dom after all). In many things this book has hit home too much and perhaps that is why i feel so emotionally attached to it. Kallypso Masters dared to write about things most people are afraid to talk about and she dared write them and she succeded! She gave us an amazing book, with a strong love story and emotions that will take you into a wild rollercoaster ride but in the end you will reach the last page and you will feel satisfied and complete and good and you will have loved this book.
The chemistry between the two and all the ordeals they have to go through and the amazing bonding they have and the fact that we can see it happen step by slow step wil make everyone fall in love with these two.
This book is a stand alone but we get to see some of the characters from previous books and once again we get to enjoy the brilliant writing skills and the brilliant mind of Kallypso Masters.
Sometimes a book comes along that breaks the mold in it's genre, Roar is one of these books. A long awaited new title from Kally, this is a standalone from the Rescue Me series we all know and love, but there are characters here from that series.
This isn't your typical romance or erotica novel, so be aware of that going in. It will definitely pull at your heart strings, it will make you laugh, cry and rejoice life. That said, of course, there is the steamy stuff you've come to expect from Kally as well.
Kristoffer Roar Larson was in a car accident four years ago with his wife Tori, and while he was relatively unscathed, Tori has been living ever since in a permanent vegetative state. Not one to shirk his vows, he's remained faithful to her ever since. Then he meets Pamela.
Dr Pamela Jeffery is a student submissive at the Denver Academy. (If this name sounds familiar, it's because it's from Red Pheonix's Brie Masters Love in Submission) She is standing naked in front of the class for a lesson when Kris comes through on a tour. Her and Kris know each other from working on a project of Kris's cousin Gunnar's. She looks to him to not reveal her secret.
Just when the two of them figure they are safe from seeing each other again after that night, Gunnar asks them to work on the project together. As much as Kris tries to stay away from Pamela, he finds he can't. He feels terrible guilt over this as he still loves his wife. Pamela, is recovering from an illness she contracted overseas and Kris sees she's overdoing it. He also notices she can't quite focus. He then offers to train her with some exercises. He'll be her top only. No emotions, no sex. But then Tori's health changes, and Pamela proves just how much she cares for Kris.
As I said, this book brings up a lot of emotions and the relationship between Kris and Pamela evolves slowly. It's an incredible, beautiful read that raises the question of what would you do if faced with keeping your loved one alive? The BDSM scenes we've come to love from Kally, as I said, are still here and are as hot as ever. If you buy a new book this year. Buy Roar.
Boring, couldn't wait for it to be over. Very long, with repetitive comments and inner thinking....over and over and over. Said 'eyes dialated' so spontaneously, that it seemed of place or sudden. It was so weird, and not 'felt' it made me thinkg of wacko spinning targets for their eyes. Not at all as intended. h was so weak I wanted to scream. oh I can't focus, you helped me so much....oooo. How were you a surgeon. Seriously hated it.
How do you go on living when your soulmate is suddenly taken from you? When is it OK to allow your heart to love someone else? How do you deal with the guilt and all those other emotions that haunt you?
Following a tragic accident, Kristoffer Roar Larson finds it hard to go on living… he merely exists. He no longer feels a connection with the life he worked so hard to create; he just simply goes through the motions. He is still devoted to his wife and his wedding vows. Kristoffer is a smart, powerful man, a dominant through and though. He is full of guilt and sorrow and lives in a world that is grey and cold… that is of course, until a vibrant woman walks into his life changing everything into Technicolor.
Dr Pamela Jeffrey is a beautiful woman full of life that works as a doctor volunteering in war torn countries. She is also a true submissive that is yearning to find her Dom. Following a chance encounter, Gunner (Kristoffer’s cousin) sees a connection between Kristoffer and Dr Jeffreys and sets a series of events in motion in order to bring the two together and to give them what they both need.
I am a huge fan of Kallypso Masters and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The Author has successfully managed to bring Roar to life by doing what she does best; she has given us two amazingly well written leads - a Dominant who is strong, caring, firm and above all human, and a submissive who is a passionate, resilient, independent woman who we can all relate to in one way or another. She has given us a very detailed and descriptive story line which is original and addictive. The Author has also managed to leave our hearts a little worse for wear! Her writing has resulted to heart ache, palpitations and eventually, happiness and a feeling of contentment. What an enjoyable read!
While Roar and the Masters at Arms series are loosely connected, this is a standalone with a HEA.
