This book is a book I should never have bothered with, but I had hoped to pick up an idea or two from it. However, this book is extremely superficial, a lot of loose, unspecific talk for more than half of the book and then the briefest run-through of the various social media platforms that barely touches on more than each platform's user volume, in some cases who are the primary users. Nothing in regards to practical examples, things to look out for, dos and don'ts and such very relevant items. The claims in the title "How to Skyrocket Your Business..." and "Master..." don't come close to being valid. This book appears to been written by someone who barely has used these platforms for business purposes himself, much less tried to promote a business using these surfaces. Do yourself the favor and ignore this book.
If you are currently using social media and want specific, targeted ways to build your numbers this book won't be of much help. Rather, it is a basic overview of social media sites, their user profiles and how you might choose one platform over another based on you business or products marketing demographic. Just getting your feet wet in the world of social media marketing? This book may help. If you are already in the social media "soup" you will need a more detailed and information rich how-to book.
I didn't enjoy this book. It felt like it was written by someone who has been over-schooled in "traditional" marketing and has just discovered the potential of social media for businesses. But I'll admit, I'm a social-media-using 20something that's read a fair amount of books on entrepreneurism and marketing for startups, so maybe I just wasn't the target audience.
Anderson went through several major social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google+, and Tumblr), explained what they were, how they worked, who uses them, and how marketers can find use on them. But his writing was very long-winded and dry, in my opinion. I found myself skimming through most of each page. No unique insights were given, just standard "make a Facebook page and Twitter account for your company, and keep them active/updated" stuff.
If you have a hard time wrapping your mind around how social media works, maybe you'd get something out of this book. But otherwise, everything felt like common sense. For unique perspectives on how to use social media to leverage your business, check out Ryan Holiday's Growth Hacker Marketing. While it's not exclusively about "social media marketing", his book gives you an idea of the kind of perspective you need to have if you want to be an effective marketer today.
Excellent book to add to a business library. Helpful information to guide the business owner to using social media to get the word out about your business product or services. Pertinent information to avoid the no no's in business associated with social media. An aid in starting business and a guide as the business moves forward. Well worth your time. There are a few glitches that we are used to seeing with digital books but nothing so distracting that you lose the value in the information provided.
This book covers some basic aspects of social media. However, I didn't learn anything new from this book but the information is good for someone just starting.
Good but not great. This is a quick refresher for Novices in social media. I needed this information since I am not that savvy with social media. more information could have been useful
This book provides a good introduction into the world of social media marketing. While it does not go into a great deal of depth it does provide a great overview on the subject. The author does recommend another book that I might just have to check out.
