மூன்று குற்றங்கள்

'மூன்று குற்றங்கள்' மாத நாவலாக வெளிவந்தது. கணேஷ் - வஸந்த் இயங்கும் ,கதை, நடனக் குழுவைச் சேர்ந்த பெண் ஒருத்தி கணேஷைச் சந்திக்க வந்து முடியாமல் போகிறது. அவள் கணேஷிடம் விவரத்தைச் சொல்லும் முன்பாகவே கொல்லப்படுகிறார். அதைப் பற்றி துப்பறியப் புறப்படும் கணேஷ் கடத்தல் கும்பல் ஒன்றை எதிர்கொள்ள நேர்ந்து அதன் காரணமாகவே ஜெர்மனிக்கு பிரயாணப்படுகிறான். அங்கு இண்டர் போலுடன் இணைந்து கணேஷீம் வஸந்தும் சாகசம் நிகழ்த்துகிறார்கள்.

About the author

Sujatha was the allonym of the Tamil author S. Rangarajan, Author of over 100 novels, 250 short stories, ten books on science, ten stage plays, and a slim volume of poems. He was one of the most popular authors in Tamil literature, and a regular contributor to topical columns in Tamil periodicals such as Ananda Vikatan, Kumudam and Kalki. He had a wide readership, and served for a brief period as the editor of Kumudam, and has also written screenplays and dialogues for several Tamil movies.

As an engineer, he supervised the design and production of the electronic voting machine (EVM) during his tenure at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a machine which is currently used in elections throughout India. As an author he inspired many authors, including Balakumaran, Madhan.

மூன்று குற்றங்கள் (Moondru Kutrangal) is a collection of three short novels, all of them featuring the brainy lawyer Ganesh and his irreverent sidekick, Vasanth.

The first story, மேற்கே ஒரு குற்றம் (***), differentiates itself by being set in two locales: beginning in Chennai and finishing in Germany. I’d have given it four stars but for Vasanth’s annoying objectification of women.

The second story, மீண்டும் ஒரு குற்றம் (***) is predictable from the angle of “who did not commit the crime” although Sujatha does a good job of keeping the mystery intact otherwise. Yet again, Vasanth’s shenanigans cross a line for me, perhaps indicative of my shifting tolerance.

The third and final story, மேலும் ஒரு குற்றம் (****) is a brilliant piece. Unusual and engrossing.

All in all, 3.5 stars.

இன்னொரு சுஜாதாவின் சுவாரஸ்யமான மூன்று கதைகளின் தொகுப்பு ..முதல் கதையின் இருந்த சுவாரஸ்யம் இரண்டாம் கதையில் இல்லாமல் போனது குறை .. மூன்றாவது கதையின் வித்தியாசமான முடிவு ஆச்சரியப்படுத்தும் (சன் டிவியில் நாடகமாக 90 இறுதியில் வந்த கதை அது)..
