Narrated by Kendra Lee Oberhauser ⭐⭐⭐ Story by Willow Rose ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I want to begin by issuing a cautionary note to all potential readers of this review: "You Can't Hide" delves into the unsettling realm of human trafficking. While it may be uncomfortable, it reflects the harsh realities of our world.
Having experienced the audiobook version of this story, I feel compelled to strongly recommend opting for the Kindle or paper format if you are interested in this book. The story encompasses a multitude of characters and unfolds through various timelines, which can be slightly disorienting when listened to.
It was another good read by Willow Rose. My only complaint is (with all of her books) the ending comes really fast and is short. I'm not complaining, because she is an amazing storyteller. It just happens so fast. I love the intertwining stories that make the story complete. I won't give any spoilers, just enjoy!!
When the book starts a woman name Maria and her daughter Tara is shopping at target for a pair of shoes and a man seems to be following them and keeps making Tara laugh with funny faces. and soon after exiting the store Maria sees him again but this time he isn’t so nice and kidnaps her and her daughter Tara. After they wake up they see they are in a high rise apartment in a room with a locked door when the man comes in he informs Maria that he has paid a lot of money for them and until he is bored they need to make him happy or else? Now onto the subplot Mary Mills‘s son Salter wants to live with his dad who now has his new girlfriend living there which totally upsets Mary Danny gets arrested for trying to buy a trafficked 14-year-old girl and Chloe X married to bail him out. There’s a man named boxer going around Florida kidnapping mothers and daughters and selling them to rich men to use his toys but who is this boxer we get to meet him and his drunken brother and his sick mother there’s another POV with Bow and Ong, they live in Vietnam and it’s the 1970s and it’s Ong‘s 8th birthday when Gorillaz break in their home arrested dad and beat up their mom their mom says the bad guys are coming and they must’ve run away or Bow Will be made a soldier and on a prostitute and she begs them to leave but leaving or not save them from horrible people. There’s also dead fish in the river and it’s becoming an international story, there are many other parts of the plot I want to say but it would give too much away but I think it’s OK if I mention Danny tells Mary and Chloe a secret he’s been having that blows their mind and Mary isn’t done with kidnapped family members. I love Willow roses bookstore always so layered with mini POV‘s that all somehow come together in the end in the Mary mils Series it’s like an ongoing soap opera with serious and legitimate plotted stories to go with it. She always has so many twists and turns in her books and You Can’t Hide it’s just one in a list of mini grade books in this series in any book from her other series. I do want to say I listen to the audio version of this book and I found the narrator although she has a nice voice it leaves a lot to be desired because she will say things like “oh no“ she screamed but says it in a very monotone voice which doesn’t help set the tone for a great listening experience I think if she practice more and put emphasis into what she’s reading it would be much better. These books are high octane reading and to have someone reading it that sounds like she is reading a book to children just didn’t work for me I kept listening only because it was a willow Rose book but hadn’t been any other I think I would’ve DNF this book. I’m very sorry that’s just my honest opinion about the narrator. Either way as far as the Kindle book goes this is a definite five star read as far as the audiobook goes I would give it four stars only because you have to listen to the narrator who let me reiterate sounds like a nice person just not a great narrator. I received the stock from NetGalley and dreamscape media but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

Mary Mills' personal life is in chaos. She is trying to balance being a divorced mother and dealing with the presence of her ex-husband's new girlfriend in her - and especially in her son, Salter's life.
I'm really enjoying this series. Someone is abducting single mothers and their young daughters in Cocoa Beach. Mary's ex-husband, Joey, has a new girlfriend, and it's causing rows between Mary and Joey. Blake is still out there, somewhere. The police are still searching for him and his girlfriend. The story ends with a major cliffhanger.
Willow Rose has the knack to pull you into a story and not let you go until you've read the last page. We also get the story of Danh and his family's story as war-torn Vietnamese refugees. Mary is working closely with Chloe to try and solve the mystery of the disappearing mothers and their daughters. We get lots of unexpected twists and turns. I'm off now to read the final book in this series, Careful Little Lies.
I was given this ARC as a publisher mistake but thought it was right up my alley so why not give it a go! I DNF for two main reasons.
1) The narrator. The most important thing for me with audiobooks it’s not that the narrator can do all the voices and accents (though I do love Jim Dale) but that they can sell me on the book without it sounding like the voice over of a commercial. Unfortunately, this narrator could not. While I’m sure if I had read the book I probably would have finished it, the narrator made it sound as corny as an Activia commercial. I was physically cringy 30 seconds in but really tried to last it. I think I gave up after 45 minutes or so.
2) I love multiple plot lines and narration, don’t get me wrong… but there were too many. And all with characters with similar names and stories? Maybe? I’m not sure. It was impossible to keep up with and difficult to sort through. Like, at one point we jumped to 1970s Vietnam before explaining any of the other story lines, and while I’m sure they’re all tied together, I don’t think it’s on the reader to do the work and keep track of everything while being confused and hopefully for an appealing storyline.
From the very beginning, the author has your attention. What would you do as a mother, if you noticed a stranger paying SPECIAL attention to your little girl? This is what Maria is faced with. Someone is abducting single mothers and their teenage daughters in Cocoa Beach. Mary Mills is alerted to this when her friend Danny's daughter goes missing. Why do they want them and what are they doing to them. We are back to the drama of the life of Mary Mills. Her ex-husband Joey has a new girlfriend, her son Salter is growing up and separating from her, and her friends all have problems of their own. Of course we cannot forget about Blake, Mary's fugitive brother. We know he wants to hurt Mary, but how does he plan to do it. We meet Boxer in this book. He has issues with a addicted brother. And also Danh, a Vietnamese refugee, and his voyage from a wartorn Vietnam. His brother, Bao, and his sister, Long, are with him.
The ending has a bit of a twist. I found this to be the most riveting plot of the series so far.
You Can't Hide is mostly about every parent's worst nightmare--on steroids. Poor Mary just can't catch a break. I enjoy how Ms Rose's books always have at least 2 or 3 plot lines going on at the same time. I have no problem following along and it means I never have a chance to get bored. I also like that this series has a main group of characters and we get to delve into their lives a little more with each book. It's kind of like getting a mystery, thriller and soap all in one. lol. The main difference with this book is that it ends with a fairly major cliffhanger. I don't usually care for cliffhangers but seeing as how I had already intended to read the whole series, I'm okay with it this time. Good read.
For those who want to know: This one has language and violence. 18+ for mature themes.
Dragging this morning after spending a large part of my night reading this. Like most of Willow Rose's books, it's not easy to put down when you know something exciting is going to happen in the coming chapters (I also love the shorter chapters). There are two separate stories, one in present day America, the other in Vietnam at wartime. Wondering how they were going to coincide, I was pleased with the manner in which they did.
Horrifying enough as it was to Mary Mills that mothers and their daughters were coming up missing in her town, even worse was the disappearance of her own son. And at the end of the book, he still hadn't been found, so now I am looking forward to the next one in the series.
Life goes on for Mary in this continuing 7th Street Crew series. Her dad's house has been rebuilt, she is living in it with her son, Salter and still eating - I think if I ever quit this series it will be because of Mary's eating disorder lol.
While out shopping with Marcia, they see Danny with a very young girl that appears intoxicated. The next thing Mary knows she is bailing Danny out of of jail, single mothers and daughters are missing, and her own son has been taken.
Mary and Chloe are working together to try and solve the puzzle while searching for Mary's son. It all comes together in a way that will surprise you.
A serial killer is on the loose. Mothers and their daughters are being kidnapped. They are being bought and sold as slaves. Behind this is a man who calls himself Boxer. Human trafficking has come to peaceful Cocoa Beach, where more bodies are being found. Mary Mills soon gets on the trail while her evil brother, Blake, is preparing to attack her. She's the only one standing who can take his freedom away. She seeks help from her 7th Street Crew. This is a mind-blowing thriller I refused to put down. The whole series is awesome. It's also interesting as to where Willow Rose gets her ideas, basically from facts. She's awesomely knowledgeable!
suspenseful, thrilling, drama filled, and extremely exciting! These are some of the things that are waiting for you when you read this book. Just like most of willows Siri‘s, Each book seems to be better than the previous. Mary is once again in the middle of a murder investigation, however, she is also faced with a extremely serious, and terrifying life situation! Mary is dealing with something that no one else would want to deal with! Willow, as she does in most of her books, takes a little bit of truth and does an excellent job of putting it right in your face!
I really enjoyed this entry in the Mary Mills Mysteries. It was full of unexpected twists and turns, as well as some sweet moments with Mary and her new boyfriend.
One thing that continues to annoy me, though - have we ever gotten a description of Mary besides short and chubby? If so, I don’t remember it. I even asked Willow on her Facebook page, but she still hasn’t responded.
Spoiler ahead … I’m not too thrilled with the cliffhanger ending, but I was planning on reading the next book anyway. Will be interesting to finally have the showdown between Mary and her psycho brother!
Willow Rose has another goodread. I do believe Mary has a ‘sixth sense’ that leads her to the real perpetrators since she has been the catalyst in each book. This book also makes her a victim, Salter goes missing! ‘You Can’t Hide’ title could refer to Blake, Mary’s brother running and hiding from a murder charge, except he’s back hiding nearby or the game a psychotic man plays that will knock your socks off; where’s Salter. Find the answers in this book and you’ll be reading a well written storyline pulling separate characters together in an intriguing plot.
I hesitated with the rating because I feel like it should probably get 4.5 stars. I just wasn’t able to get into this book as quickly as the other three so that’s the reason for then four stars. Still, it was full of twists and unexpected turns like the first two. I was surprised that there wasn’t as much of a focus on Mary’s brother, Blake, but I think it’s safe to assume that their conflict is going to come to a head in book four. I’m excited to start that one next!
You Can't Hide is yet another great novel by Willow Rose and a wonderful addition to The Seventh Street Crew Series.
Mary Mills and Cocoa Beach, Florida always have series of terrible events going on at the same time. Cocoa Beach has an environmental catastrophe going on that is causing thousands of dead fish in the river which is of concern enough until the first dead body is found.
Youngs girls in the area are disappearing.
Mary's personal life is in upheaval. She's trying to balance being a single mother and her ex having a new girlfriend when Mary's brother Blake becomes a threat. Mary needs her friends, The Seventh Street Crew more than ever.
Great read, I'm never disappointed in a Willow Rose Book!
Wow, talk about a thriller with lots of twists and turns
Hard to believe things like this actually happened out there in the world today. You can't be too careful with anybody. Even though I don't like the back and forth time frames throughout the book I could not believe who dr. Seuss was. Talk about a game changer! I was not very happy with the way this story ended though because Salter is still missing and my heart breaks for Mary and Joey but I am sure Blake will get caught and Salter will be found safe and sound. Now I just have to find the next book and keep reading!
A very entertaining book, with two storylines going on at the same time, two timelines and waaaaaaaaaay too many characters, so it can get a little frustrating when you can't match up the characters we see in the past with the ones on the present.
But the story really holds your attention, and I liked how everything made sense at the end. Yes, even the dead fishes :P
The cliffhanger? Not so much...
But I liked Kendra Lee's narration a lot, so that's a plus. I'll be reading/listening to the next book in this series.
Young girls and women are being auctioned off to the highest bidder. They come from other countries with the impression they will be models or somewhere in this kind of work. But this is not their destiny. Even young mothers and their daughters here in America’s streets are approached and taken. Sex trafficking is the name of the game and it just keeps growing. This was a gripping book, one that had me cringing the entire time. Willow Rose can certainly write horror suspense, like no other author I’ve read.
You Can't Hide - Another Day in the Life of Mary Mills
You Can't Hide continues the story of Mary Mills and her Cocoa Beach crew. Her dad's physical condition has improved a little and Mary's ex whom she has known since preschool wants to spend more time with their son Salter. Joey is living with Jackie ( the other woman) and Mary has started dating again. Someone is taking mothers and their young daughters and of course Mary's murdering brother Blake is still a threat. If you want to tune in to the life of Mary Mills, Inc. read You Can't Hide.
Another will written murder mystery family relationships adventure thriller novel by Willow Rose 🌹 (Mary Mills Mystery Series book 3). Mary's both bother is back in town and causing trouble. Single mot mother's and their daughters are being kidnapped and Mary and friends are in the middle of it. I would highly recommend this series and author to 👍 readers of mysteries. Enjoy the adventure of reading or listening to Alexa read books 📚. 2022 👒😊💑🏡
Mary Mills has to juggle between her work, her home and her family. Sound familiar? Difference being, she has a serial killer brother that’s on a rampage and can’t be found, dearest friends are plotting to take down a ring of pedophiles who are selling young girls for sex and her young son doesn’t want to live with her anymore. Meanwhile her worst nightmare has come true. That’s not your average juggle.
Another great read. I'm a fan of Willow Rose's books and I was so thrilled when this audiobook came up. The narrator did an excellent job of presenting the story in a great way. I used every moment to listen to the book. The story, the characters, and everything were developing at a perfect pace, which kept me engaged and interested throughout the book. Since I own a kindle copy of the book too, I have to admit that the experience of reading and listening of this story was equally satisfying
Single moms and their daughters are being kidnapped and sold to the highest bidder. No one realizes it until Mary, Chloe, and Danny come together, looking for Danny's daughter, Tara. They discover that she wasn't the only one to go missing. They have to find her, and hopefully another young girl who recently went missing with her mother. Can they convince the police to help? Can they be saved?
Wars have done terrible things to people that is worse than death. You will read how it affected two people. They gave up on life and began destroying other lives. However, those who were affected did not give up on searching for the evil ones. Never give up the fight against the evil in our world
Another homerun for Ms. Rose. I like how a lot of her stories are based around true facts. Human trafficking is a world wide epidemic and I honestly don't know how we can stop it. Make people aware and be more alert to noticing trouble. Moniter kids internet use closely. All of this is talked about in this book.
From the beginning of You Can't Hide to the last page this book is riveting. I couldn't put it down. So much happened Book 3 of the Mary Mills as the stories of these characters became known and entertwined. This book is face paced and scary. The end as usual was a shock. I can't wait to read more books by Willow Rose.
This is a really good series. Every book has been enthralling. The characters are terrific and the plots are twisty. The author uses a technique where random chapters are about different characters in the past. Then in the end she fits it all together like a completed jigsaw puzzle. Very consuming and enjoyable.
