Following a nuclear detonation in Washington D.C. a small group of Army Rangers find themselves to be the sole survivors left to defend the United States against a foreign invader. The President and majority of Congress are assumed dead, the Vice President is missing, and the country is left waiting to discover who will come to power. Set in the same world as the Future Collapse series, Homefront follows a resistance group that fights to restore order out of chaos, while making allies in unexpected places. Major port cities like Seattle are turned into landing sites for an invading Chinese force hell bent on stripping the United States of natural resources. Surviving wildfires, and a deadly plague that swept through the country, Staff Sergeant Dallas Shannon and his small group of Rangers are forced to adapt to their new mission. No longer a fighting force that eliminates insurgents in foreign lands, they have become the type of resistance they were trained to fight. Outnumbered with no supply line or reinforcements on their way, the Rangers have to use their skills to survive while fighting a superior force. Definitely a great book for a cold winter day! Nothing like a little post apocalyptic drama to ease the soul. Fear, Violence and the fight for survival how could a book be better! I could only describe Homefront as a truly unique and completely believable scenario of a post apocalyptic America after a Nuclear disaster. It's definitely a thriller in every aspect with constant excitement and action around every corner. I would recommend this to anyone with a passion for survival skills, military action and political fiction. It's definitely not a read for the sheepish type, it might offend you or give you nightmares. Ohhhh no nuclear weapons, Violence and political corruption how scary. Just grow a pair and read it! You'll love it. Although its truly original it kind of reminds me of the show Jericho in some aspects but honestly it's nothing like the show and in more than one way better.
I recently had the opportunity to read the author's latest book titled Homefront. His books follow several characters experiencing the same nationwide disaster which results in the loss of all power and anything dependent on modern electronics caused by an electromagnetic pulse, or EMP for short. Homefront introduces a new character, with a different location and set of challenges to the survival of the main character and society as a whole. The author's main characters tend to be people who survive on their individual talents and ability to adapt rather than the stereotypical long term preparations commonly seen in this genre. Unlike many novels of this type that seem to revolve around a shopping list of cool stuff that will guarantee survival, the author injects solutions to challenges that work for the situation. Not perfectly perhaps, but well enough, which is sometimes the best you can hope for. I was particularly intrigued by the variety of social structures that formed as a result of different environments and even differences in the leaders that played a pivotal role in the different communities. And as all good books do, it makes you mentally put yourself into the story and wonder how you would fare. I've enjoyed all of the author's books and am anxiously waiting for the next one to discover if it will revisit a a character from a precious book, or someone entirely new.
