With the ending of book two and a strong start with Rydah’s story, I had high hopes for this book but ended up with more questions than answers. For starters, Rydah was a great character and Diedre selling a child made sense, but why wasn’t that fact mentioned in the other two books?? Why did Rydah know about her sisters but not the other way around? I really loved Rydah’s story but it was almost like reading a new book and Tallhya and Simone were just accessories. We don’t find out what happened to Ginger, we don’t find out what happened to Pastor Street, and Simone is barely in the book, yet we’re getting whole new characters.
Tallhya living broke in a motel and attempting to rob another bank was so odd. With everything the girls went through to get the deed to the house back, why live in a motel? The house was as much hers as it was Simone’s, and the failed bank robbery was never mentioned again. Also, her randomly being into tech and being able to get tracking devices on Abe and Princes phones was outlandish. Considering Tallhya was barely in the second book, there was never any mention of her being able to do stuff like that.
There was mention in the book that Buffy set Rydah up because Rydah denied her relationship advances but that made no sense. Rydah never mentioned that Buffy tried to date her and the carjacking was actually set up by Jaffey, Buffy was just a pawn in his plan so why was the failed attraction even mentioned?
Chase being assigned to the Case in Miami was another odd thing. Of all the detectives in America, they assigned a random detective from Richmond, VA to a high profile case in Miami??? It just didn’t make sense. And after all of that, Me-ma’s house is just sitting empty in VA? Also, Bunny ending up being an informant was off the wall and out of character. We find out in the last few pages that she was actually alive.
Lastly, what happened to Ginger!?!?!?!?!? I wanted to scream when the book ended without mention of it. And why are we getting back story on Ivy which wasn’t important as opposed to finding out about the main characters?
All in all, this book left me with more questions than answers and it doesn’t seem like there’s a 4th book to finish it off. If this book was about just Rydah’s story I think it would’ve been better but the story lines weren’t cohesive and left too many loose ends.
