The Blueberry Saga: Confederate Gold

Rate this book
Who was the man known to us as Blueberry? This bizarre and unusual name belonged to a mysterious soldier of fortune whose trail can be followed through the history of the American West, a figure who appeared to have been involved in some of the most dramatic events in American history, but who always remained behind the scenes.

The West is rife with legends and tall tales of men such as Jesse James, Billy the Kid, the Dalton Brothers, Wild Bill Hickok, and even better known figures such as General George Armstrong Custer. But the casual researcher will be able to locate only a few, incomplete stories about the man named Blueberry. No pulps were written about him, no serials were made about his exploits and, until recently, his very existence had sunk into an obscurity that he would have most likely welcomed.

The definitive American reprints of the classic French western. This volume will contain a history of Blueberry by Jean-Michel Charlier and Jean-Marc Lofficier, reprints of Blueberry #'s (Epic) 1,2, and part of #3, and the first English language printing of "Three Black Birds", a Moebius written and illustrated Blueberry adventure. Introduction by Elmer Kelton.

I love Blueberry. It's just the best. If I hit the lotto, I'm publishing all the Blueberry books in English in a nice format. My only beef with this particular book is that the b/w smaller format doesn't work. Too many of the panels are too densely colored.

My copy has a sketch by Moebius, which is pretty cool.

Blueberry Saga,

Blueberry is hero of a kind who just don't amaze with supper physical skills alone, but with strength of heart and mind.

Soldier Blueberry!. he's self moral soldier who works his heart out to avoid a fledged war, but he's lured into to thick plot of grand plan, the way he un-knot himself out of crooked plan is true epic adventure experience for readers. Through out the book he is ripped apart but blueberry emerges like phoenix again and again, not in animated iron fist and brute winchester way, but realistic yet grand way. Blueberry the character, I felt its true display of grit and discreet soldier mind, provoking indeed.

This book is compression of 12 episodes, such a page turner. Must to mention about art work truly dazzling one. One may loiter with this books art work for few days for sure, if you are art lover.

By the time i completed this saga, Jean-Michel Charlier created one true western comics fan out of me. Long live Blueberry saga!

I love most of the work by Moebius, but I found the Blueberry Saga to be so boring that I wasn't even able to finish the book. Perhaps it is merely the fact that my taste does not run towards westerns, or perhaps the author of the story just doesn't write to my taste, and thus the beautiful artwork by Moebius wasn't enough to pull me through. I'll stick with the science works works.
