FukuFuku's exploration of the endless wonders to be discovered in her owner's house and garden continue in this volume, as the old lady and the kitten forge that special bond between owner and pet. As the seasons turn, FukuFuku learns, changes and grows into a fine feline companion.
Konami Kanata (jp. こなみかなた), is a Japanese cartoonist best known for her cat characters Chi's Sweet Home. Her works revolves around the daily life of house cats.
She went to Futaba-Kōtō Academy in Suwa, Nagano Perfecture. Her first published manga as a profesional manga-ka was the short story Puchi Neko Jamu Jamu in Nakayoshi Manga Magazine in 1982. The magazine is a part of Kodansha Publishing, in which she published her works ever since her first debut.
i kind of phoned in my review for the first volume of this - it was a lot of “i dunno, you like cats?"
"you think this is a cute cat?"
"you’ll probably like this book, then, pal.”
not much more insight is gonna be had from this, my review for the second volume. it’s more of the same, and there’s not much to it - cat has small adventures and goes meee meee meee a lot:
no, i mean a LOT:
cat owner person who provides food and shelter for the cat adores/endures cat’s antics:
the end.
there’s more to it, of course. there’s some catfights:
and some live-action whack-a-mole:
and stolen treats:
i do love the way she draws this cat, but i am a sucker for cute round things, so it’s not hard to get my attention with that.
she gets cat mannerisms down perfectly:
including the difference between sleepy:
and drowsy:
the hiding before the inevitable pounce:
the staredown:
and most particularly, the glare i am most used to seeing from my own beloved beastie:
so, again - do you think this is cute?
or this?
or this?
well, then, pal - grab yourself a copy of the book!
i wish i had known that this was the last one before i read it. although how that would have changed my reading experience i can’t rightly say. but i think it would have, in some ineffable way.
someday i will read her chi’s sweet home series, all of which i have lying around here, because i understand it is just like this, only with more actual content to go with the round cat cuteness.
and at least i will be aware when i get to the last in the series.
FukuFuku: Kitten Tales 2 was an adorable manga following a kitten and the adventures she gets into.
FukuFuku, a super cute kitten, is settling into her home with her owner and gets up to various antics while doing so. From stealing food to discovering a love of brushing and a fear of the wind, this kitten does it all. The illustrations in this are delightful, but I mean it's impossible for a kitten not to be cute. The kitten's expressions are reminiscent of ones I've seen my own cats do and I enjoyed seeing them in an illustrated manner. The kitten creates a lot of chaos and watching her owner chase her about was fun. At the end of the volume, we see the kitten grow up and become a fully grown cat who is still as adorable as ever.
Overall FukuFuku: Kitten Tales 2 was a cute read and I highly recommend these manga to any cat lovers.
Cute, sweet, and funny much like the first one (although I laughed more with the other book). I even cuddled with my own kitty while reading and then took a break to play with him. Perhaps, he sensed I was giggling about another cat and wanted to prove he was still just as cute. Good times all around, and sparked some needed joy.
The adorable conclusion to FukuFuku: Kitten Tales.
This volume is more of the silly cuteness that you've seen in volume 1. There's not much else to say about this one. If you like kittens and kitten shenanigans, you'll like this one. There's also no need to read the first volume, but why wouldn't you want more kitten cuteness?
In my opinion I enjoyed the sequel more than the original, maybe it’s because I found this one cuter. It’s such a fun light read but I would probably end up selling the series. I enjoy “Chi’s Sweet Home” series more than this one even though it’s from the same author.
Young and old will enjoy this charmingly illustrated book. FukuFuku is the epitome of what it means to be a lively kitten – no fat cat illusions here! Full of curiosity and joie de vivre, this kitten is wonder to behold, and her relationship with her elderly owner will warm your heart.
Maravillosas historias cortas, como siempre! Qué risa la Gordita estilosa... Y comparto la sensación de la abuela sobre sacarle fotos a Gordi, qué difícil!
A collection of short episodes in which FukuFuku the little kitten entertains his elderly owner with his antics.
If you're looking for an easy entry to Japanese manga or an all ages graphic novel, check out FukuFuku. This author definitely knows cats. FukuFuku's adventures are entirely believable of a real cat. What's probably the most interesting in this are the sounds that things make. I think they just translated the meaning or transliterated the sound from Japanese, either way they are unusual for most English speakers but in a nice cultural experience way. Hopefully this author has more cat-related stories up her sleeve. Kids of all ages at our school (including those masquerading in adult bodies) LOVE Chi and FukuFuku.
This is more of what volume 1 gave, and I enjoyed it but also feel like there could have been so much more. Who is this old woman who loves her cat so much? Why does she wear traditional Japanese clothing all the time ("she likes it" is a perfectly valid answer but I would like to see that!)? Where is her family around the holidays? Cute kitten stories are wonderful, and there was a little gut-punch at the end as she's looking at how things change, but between Chi and A Man and His Cat I want so much more from my cute cat manga. x.x
This graphic novel is very similar to the author's "Chi" graphic novels. Except, this book's illustrations were black and white instead of in full color. FukuFuku lives with an elderly (?) Japanese woman who wears kimonos with obis, and those quaint Japanese socks that separate the big toe from the other toes. Otherwise, this kitten has adventures which are similar to those of Chi. The book is formatted English-style: with pages turning from left to right. Several panels of mixed sizes are on each page. Another cute kitten book.
Awwww, FukuFuku is all grown up, no more kitten tales to be had! Though I seriously need to buy myself a copy of this edition, because I can SO relate to having a cat that is not just camera shy but runs from them. If it wasn't for the invention of cell phones I'd never have a good picture to remember him by. Also the burrs! The number of times I had to get burrs out of fur! EVERYONE who's ever had a cat needs to read to works of Kanata Konami!
My eight year old daughter handed me this book to read and I thought it was pretty cute. The various stories of the kitten stand alone and were fairly entertaining. I like the relatively simple drawings and how they convey so much without using all that many words. I think this book would be understood by new readers as well as those with a bit more experience. I'd consider reading the first book in this series if my daughter wanted me to read that one as well. :)
The only thing better than one volume of FukuFuku might be having two! Cute moments that are fun and anyone who has cats will recognize, giggle at and sympathize with. Ha ha The art and simplistic and minimum words really is what helps it be a magical journey. While it does not take long to read, this is the type of graphic novel you may want to own just to open up and relive. I think it's a gem for cat lovers and even just those who have pets. All ages can enjoy it.
I got to admit it: Fuku Fuku is pretty darn cute! Chi is still my favorite, though, because Chi looks so much like an anime version of my kitty. How can I NOT play favorites.
But this simple little series is just so sweet. I thoroughly enjoyed both volumes!
This is the second book in the Fuku Fuku: Kitten Tale series. This is a cute book about an older woman and the kitten she adopts. While it is not nearly as good as Chi’s Sweet Home, it is still cute and well done.
The chapters each contain a simple kitten story and are fun. This is a very easy read that is appropriate for all ages. My 11 year old son enjoys these books a lot, but still loves the Chi’s Sweet Home books more. The illustrations throughout the book are simple and cute.
Overall a good addition to the Fuku Fuku: Kitten Tales series. I would recommend if you love cats, enjoyed the first book, or are looking for something similar to Chi’s Sweet Home.
Kanata Konami remains one of the most consistent artists out there. You could grab anything by her off the shelf at random and know exactly what you're in for. It's a shame that this series ends here, though, as I feel it really starts to hit its stride in this volume.
This is not as good as Chi but this kitten is so CUTE. There are not alot of words in this book more kitten antics, but so true to how kitties act and behave. This was a great fun book.
