Uncovering a modern-day crime scene was not how marine archaeologist Wynne Baxter expected to use her diving skills. Yet when handsome family friend Simon Lassiter fell under suspicion in the death of his cousin and former fiancée, Wynne vowed to help him learn the truth, even though it meant risking everything in Superior's stormy waters.

But a tempest of a different kind was about to fall on the Lassiter family, and Wynne found herself caught up in the maelstrom. Whom could she trust as the clouds of suspicion and danger rolled in over her head?

Entertaining

Like most of her books, it was an entertaining mystery romance. I like that she is a Christian author so I can count on her books being clean and not graphic. Her mystery are interesting but not on the edge of your seat intense. Overall, it was just fun mind candy.

I was searching the Kindle Owner's Lending Library for a book to borrow for the month of June. I happened upon this one. Having always enjoyed books by this author, I downloaded it without thinking. Apparently this is book three in a series, although I think it was fine for a standalone book. I enjoyed it, as I expected to. However, I do like to read them in order, so I hope to go back over next few months and borrow #1 (Windigo Twilight) and #2 (Shadow Bones), which are apparently about the other two siblings that were mentioned some in StormCatcher. Also, I think these are older Love Inspired books that were recently re-released. Still, I did enjoy it! :)

Beautiful!!!

This was a beautiful love story with some intrique thrown in. It was a good story all around. Greed is never a good motive for anything, and this story proved it. God will always bring you out on top if you seek Him and be truthful.

3.5 stars. This is the third and final book in the Great Lakes Legends series. Wynne Baxter, a marine archaeologist, hopes to explore some maritime wrecks in Lake Superior while waiting for her contract in Australia to start. However, she wasn't counting on falling for Simon Lassiter, a main suspect in the deaths of his ex-girlfriend and his cousin. Can she take a chance and trust her heart, or will she and Simon both be killed before the truth is revealed?

I enjoyed this book, though the series of books as a whole had a few too many similarities. For example, both this one and the first in the series had the hero being a suspect in the murder of an ex. Also in both this one and Book 2, one of the Baxter siblings has to grapple with whether they would be happy to give up their jet-setting lifestyles for love on Eagle Island. However, I liked the characters and it was an enjoyable read on the whole.

There's plenty of suspense and romance as marine archaeologist Wynne Baxter steps in to assist wealthy Simon Lassiter discover Viking treasure and a missing boat at the bottom of Lake Superior. The characters are strong and interesting, and their relationship moves forward and back like waves on the lake as they become targets of evil. Important details are added as the plot builds and reaches its climax. Warnings from an old Ojibwa medicine man and an old Ojibwas woman not to disturb underwater graves add tension. I appreciate the faith and family elements.

Love Colleen's Uplifting Novels

Colleen is a wonderful writer. Her characters are interesting and one of the things I like best is that they demonstrate godly moral characteristics in the lives they live and decisions they make. You can learn to apply these these morals as a christian when reading her books. Thank you Colleen.

Bland characters. Stilted dialogue

I admire authors who aren't afraid to introduce a relationship with God in her characters but not even that could save this. It was just plain dull

fair story

This bounced back and forth often over the same thoughts and fears and for too long the relationship was not progressing. Then Simons workers got overcome twice?! In the same manner?! And Simon said the next time they’d be more aware and on guard? Oiy-vay

Mediocre is the best word I can come up with to describe this installment in the Love Inspired Suspense series. I live near one of the Great Lakes and was excited to see that this series is about the Great Lakes but then it seemed like much of the plot could have taken place almost anywhere that ships have been wrecked.

There is a song "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" that got a lot of airplay on the radio years ago. It was nice to see that referenced in this book.

I wish there'd been more details about finding wrecked ships and how they are salvaged (both for items within and the ship itself). I find that more interesting than the romance that the author tried to develop between the two.

I admire Wynne wanting to honor her contract, however, her contract probably also stated the original starting time. So the fact that she just figures she'll agree without consulting Simon, the man she supposedly loves, bothers me.

Also, what do they do about the Viking ship that's supposed to be Simon's lifelong ambition to find? Do they register it and then figure it'll still be around once they get done with the Australia contract? Do they hire another reputable firm to do the work under the watchful eye of someone they trust (like Wynne's brother Jake)? That just seems to get forgotten in the wrap-up.

Although I really really really liked loved the story, sadly there was a certain aspect that distracted me greatly.

Do not read if you will be offended (it is only my pet-peeve senses tingingly in a sense, & I have several plus opinions and perspectives differ from one to another, so don't judge me in particular).

But other than that, I really liked the whole mythology and diving and sunken ships and murderous happenings of the story. Felt a bit light on the suspense & thriller side, but it was enough for me.

I will be attempting to find the previous two books in the Great Lakes Legends, mainly because of the Objiwe mythology (I have a hint of Obijwe blood in me) and I really loved the Thunderbird angle in the story.

Cute…

I didn’t love this one the way I did the first of the series, but it was fast paced when the navel gazing wasn’t waxing a little long. This is one of the few books of Colleens’s where the culprit was a touch too obvious, but all the incredible detail about Lake Superior and diving definitely made this a worthwhile read!

Good conclusion to series...loved the Lake Superior and Upper Peninsula setting, plus insights into archeology and especially marine archeology with an appreciation for discovery and preservation. I enjoyed the characters.

Ending was predictable but that was part of the fun! Easy and quick read fiction especially for a book on the beach.

I loved this book!

Another great story by Colleen Coble! This book is set in Lake Superior, the same area she wrote about in her "Great Lakes " series. It is well researched, as if she is very familiar with the setting. Her characters are well drawn, the kind of Christian people you want to know! Great read!!
