What happens when you’re attracted to the wrong person?

AIDEEN

I didn't expect to feel so drawn to my best friend’s father when I first meet him.
It’s unexplainable and most of all, it’s unexpected. He drinks too much, is rough around the edges, and is so obviously into casual sex and nothing more, but there’s just something about him that calls out to me.
I’ve thought my heart was battered beyond repair, but maybe I have been wrong.

"There was something so sexual, so carnal, so intense in the way Jensen looked at me.’’

JENSEN

She is my son’s best friend and I know he wants more, but I can't help it. Whenever she is around or her name is mentioned I’m turned on. I’m not used to denying myself to feeling so strongly for a woman so young, but she gets me.
I can’t do a damn thing to stop these feelings.
No amount of alcohol helps.
I didn’t think it could be possible to feel so drawn to a woman, but it looks like I have been dead wrong.

"I want her to want me just as madly as I do her.’’

They shouldn’t and yet…
They can’t resist each other.

So have you ever read a book that you thought you shouldn’t have liked and actually did? Well, I shouldn’t have liked and enjoyed We Shouldn’t and Yet…. by Stephanie Witter as much as I did but yet…. I did a lot.

 photo a72bee0b2e4f836723327ceea69000_zpsnmwwga9m.gif “She's my son's crush, she's twenty-two. She's just a kid and she's sixteen years younger than me. She's off-limits.’’

We Shouldn’t and Yet…. explores the forbidden romance between a man and woman who have a sixteen year age gap difference. The age gap is not an issue for me since the heroine is 22 years old and the hero is 38 years old and I believe the heroine is old enough to make her own choice on who to be with and love. So what is the forbidden aspect in their relationship? Well what happens when you are attracted to your son’s best friend? And the dagger in the heart is that your son has feelings for his best friend? Can a father stay away from temptation? Or will he risk it all knowing that this girl is the one?

Jensen just recently found out that he has a son. And so when his son, Hal asked him if his best friend, Aideen could temporarily stay with them till she finds an apartment. But what Jensen didn’t expect was to find his son’s crush beautiful. Soon Jensen realizes that he should stay away from Aideen and her sweet personality but he can’t. Soon they begin to strike a meaningful friendship and soon one kiss leads to one passionate night. As much as Jensen and Aideen try to stay away from each other, their deep feelings for one another are so tangible and strong that they no longer could deny their love for one another. But what happens when they tell Hal of their relationship? Will Jensen be willing to risk his relationship with his son for love?

photo a72bee0b2e4f836723327ceea69000_zpsnmwwga9m.gif “The thing is, beautiful, since you’ve entered my life I only see you, I only want you. There’s only you on my fucked up mind.’’

We Shouldn’t And Yet… was a sizzling forbidden romance that had heat, passion, vulnerability, and of course heart. I know some readers might be curious if there is cheating involved and the answer is NO. Yes, the son may have a crush on his best friend but it was a misguided love and soon Hal would realize that they were better off as best friends. And so this book will explore the topic that this love between Jensen and Aideen is a connection between a man and woman who had this strong magnetic pull to one another. In the eyes from strangers, their love makes no sense but in the eyes of their family, friends and most importantly between Jensen and Aideen, their love was pure, raw, honest, and real. So if you are looking for a romance where temptation leads to a happily ever after then this book is for you.

Title: We Shouldn't And Yet...
Author: Stephanie Witter
Category: Contemporary Romance, Forbidden Romance
POV: Dual
Plot: 5
Characters: 4.5
Scorching Level:4.5
HEA: Not telling

I was anticipating the release of this book since the author announced it! Forbidden, taboo romance that pushes the boundaries? Count me in for the ride!
We meet Aideen as she moves away from her home to go live temporarily with her best friend.
What she didn't expect was to be so utterly enticed by her best friend's father, Jensen.
Jensen is 38 years old and only recently did he discover that he has a son. He wants to make his relationship with his child work, he wants to be there for Hal, but at the same time he has habits that he's had since forever. He is not longer a bachelor, he has responsibilities towards his son.
What happens when he meets his son's best friend and secret crush? Disaster!

Attraction is fierce and giving in inevitable.

He' Hal's father and he's way older than me. I don't...I can't be attracted to a man and even less to this man.

But can their love ever be...possible? Follow these characters as they embark in a dangerous affair that can ruin their lives.

I simply loved this forbidden romance. It has everything I need in a book; good characters with flaws that make them human, sizzling passion and great twists and turns.
If you want something unique, then I highly recommend this one!

I really, really liked this!

The hero, Jensen is 38 years old, ex-military, a solitary man who has never been in love, and is haunted by the years he spent in the military. He has pretty big issues with alcohol, and as much as I don't like reading about alcoholics, I surprisingly really liked him. Oh, and he has a bike.

description

The heroine, Aideen, is 22 years old, but she is very mature for her age, at times even more mature than him, which really helped me believe in them as a couple, despite the huge age difference.

Jensen found out recently that he has a son, Hal. His son comes to stay with him so they can build a relationship. Hal is Aideen's best friend, and he is very much into her, although she doesn't really notice it, and she's definitely not interested in him that way. Jensen, while he does feel guilty about what he's doing to his son by pursuing Aideen, he is too used to being alone and selfish, getting what he wants for himself.

I liked the way their relationship progressed, and Jensen could be insanely hot. I would've liked it more if the author spent longer building their relationship, so I could be more convinced of their I love you's, but I still liked it the way it was.

I also liked that there wasn't too much angst, and I really liked the heroine.

Hal was her best friend and he had a crush on her, but Aideen found another man who stole her heart, mind and played her body like a finely tuned harp. It happens, right? He loves her, she loves the other guy. What if that “other guy” were your absentee father, the one you just connected with, the one with more demons than Hell?

Jensen is sixteen years older than Aideen, who at twenty-two has seen little of life, but has had her heart broken before. Jensen has seen his share of war and the after effects, but their chemistry is explosive, carnal and is growing into so much more. Could this be the balm they both need to sooth their pain? Maybe keeping it from Hal was a bad idea, and to that I say, “Gee, ya think?” I was never comfortable with how they handled their growing relationship, as far as Hal went.

Stephanie Witter tells the story of two hearts who find an erotic dream come true in the arms of each other. We Shouldn’t and Yet… is a raw tale of mistakes, deceit and overcoming self-imposed obstacles to enjoying the love and passion of another. Her characters are earthy and damaged, but their consciences override their need for honesty in their passionate throes of lust and love. Who will be hurt in the end? Who has the healthiest outlook on their relationship? Are they ready for the future before them?

Far beneath the surface, there are messages in this tale, and hope for the future where there wasn’t any before.

We Shouldn't And Yet...
by Stephanie Witter

HOLY.COW.BATMAN.

I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this as much as I did, I love SMUT! I forgotten how much.

*insert wink face*

The story line, is unique apparently an off topic, though I have read this genre like years ago I love an Older man with a younger partner. Your best friend’s dad… right? I know I know but these two have some hot sexual chemistry that leaps of the pages, I was fearing my kindle was going to overheat.

“She's my son's crush, she's twenty-two. She's just a kid and she's sixteen years younger than me. She's off-limits.’’

I really liked the romance in this story, I adored the characters and it just wasn’t all about sex, there was depth to their relationship to their feelings. I found myself not putting it down because I wanted to know what will happen next.

Just on a side note, the part where I loved the most was on a motorbike…it was…out of this world hot, I do love me some kinky kink! Ok I’ve gone off track…

Both Jensen and Aideen have had shitty experiences so far in life, Jenson an ex war veteran and finding out he has a son… a grown up son too. And then there is Aideen she lost her partner and needed to escape, not realizing she was running towards her heart and finding her soul mate in her best friend’s father. *BOOM* book lovers this was extremely hot. I love love loved Jensen. Damn he was a treat, all sexy, alpha older male at 38 closing in on 40.

“The thing is, beautiful, since you’ve entered my life I only see you, I only want you. There’s only you on my fucked up mind.’’

So I liked the story, I loved the sex I thought the writing was good but I felt the couple’s relationship felt a little un developed. I found the ending a little rushed, I found have liked to see them more of a couple. I was happy there was an epilogue though.

"She doesn't understand that I'm obsessed. She's always there on my mind and I can't get enough of her."

Overall I simply adored the story, they say it is a forbidden romance but I don’t see anything wrong with finding romance where you least expect it. It had everything I liked yes a little angst and drama, but I think it felt real enough and I can overlook that with the amazing passion they have together.

"She's my son's crush, she's twenty-two. She's just a kid and she's sixteen years younger than me. She's off-limits."

I love taboo romance stories. There is just something about forbidden love that excites me. We Shouldn't And Yet... is about Jensen and Aideen. Jensen recently found out that he has a twenty-two year old son named Hal. Hal has a best friend named Aideen who temporarily moves in with them till she finds her own place. Aideen moved to another city to get away from her past and is also still trying to find herself.

Hal has been a great support to Aideen but he also has a crush on her. Jensen is a very moody man. He is going through some things as well, and drowns his sorrows in alcohol. He is a broken soldier and is back from a last hellish tour. The moment he meets Aideen he starts feeling something. It is normal to be attracted to a beautiful young woman, but he needs to keep his feelings in check. Jensen and Aideen are in such a difficult situation. Whatever they decide to do someone will get hurt. They try to resist each other, but that doesn't last long.

"She doesn't understand that I'm obsessed. She's always there on my mind and I can't get enough of her."

What I like about this story is that even though Aideen is only twenty-two to Jensen's thirty-eight she doesn't act childish or play games. That is mainly because of her past. She had to grow up faster than the typical girl her age. This really gave her the maturity that matched Jensen's. I think that is why they were such a great match.

What I didn't like that much was the development of the characters. I didn't feel like there was enough development for them as a couple. There was something missing and that resulted in me not being fully satisfied with the book. The ending in my opinion was a bit rushed and two or three chapters could've been added to conclude it better.

If you like forbidden romances then you will love this story.

Aideens best friend is Hal who has a crush on her. Unfortunately for Hal Aideen falls for his father Jensen who is sixteen years older than her.

Jensen only recently found out that he was Hal's father. He's not in a good place and is struggling with his past. He knows Aideen is forbidden but it doesn't stop him being attracted to her.

A great forbidden romance story that has a good storyline, well developed characters and plenty of hot sexy scenes. I loved it.

WOW!!! What a book! I’m completely blown away!!! I’ve read many younger girls falling in love with older men romances, but this one was so different. There are so many layers to the story and the main characters, Aideen and Jensen.

Aideen is leaving home for a new job and to leave her painful past behind. Her best friend, Hal, is letting her stay with him and his father until she can find a place of her own. When Aideen meets Jensen, he’s not anything she’s expected. He’s doesn’t look like a father, and the two have insane chemistry. However, Jensen is only 38; he only learned he had Hal just recently. Despite their attraction, she knows it’s a bad idea to get involved with her best friend’s father, and yet he makes her feel alive again. Jensen knows Aideen is a bad idea. He doesn’t do relationships. He’s fighting his own demons from his tours in the Middle East. The most important reason to not go anywhere near Aideen is he knows Hal has feelings for her, and yet she makes him feel things he’s never felt before. If they got involved it would be a train wreck, or it could be something that would finally heal their wounds.

Jensen is extremely complicated. At times, I loved him, and at times I hated him because of the things he said and did. When I discovered the full scope of Aideen’s past, it broke my heart. It was definitely not what I was expecting at all. I liked that Aideen and Jensen were far from perfect, but together, they made sense. They are a couple you can’t help but want together even though it might upset others. Witter is a great writer, and with each book, she grows even more. She is an expert at breaking your heart, then putting it back together. She can bring light to any hint of darkness in her books. She continues to be one of my favorite authors.

We Shouldn't And Yet was an interesting taboo read. I had never read a book that that is about the heroine falling for their best friends dad so I knew I had to read it as soon i could get my hands on it. One thing for sure is that this was steamy as hell. I felt like I shouldn't have enjoyed it as much as I did.

Oh and there's an age gap. I actually really enjoy books with age gaps, oddly enough. Jensen and Stephanie were both a bit damaged from their past but when they come together, it works. They helped each other. I do wish that it was handled a bit differently with Hal; Jensen's son and that they didn't keep it a secret.

Other than that I quite liked this story.

*hides* I’m pretty sure I’m going to be in the minority of this one, but I just didn’t believe any of it.
I really really love taboo romances, and OM/YW is one of my favourites, but I didn’t feel the connection between Aideen and Jensen, and found myself cringing on more than one occasion.
I also struggled with some of the writing early on, it didn’t flow and distracted me quite a bit.

I've been on a huge forbidden older guy/younger girl kick lately and this book was recommended by a lot of readers so I gave it a chance, though I had no idea what to expect being the first I've read from Stephanie Witter. I wasn't disappointed though, and was hooked from the very first page!

I couldn't put it down, as I loved the story and the characters. This was everything I'd been hoping for and more, and I can't wait to check out more from this author. If you like this trope and are looking for something on the taboo side, I recommend giving this one a shot!

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Aideen is about to start a new job and needs a place to stay while she looks for an apartment. Hal, her best friend, currently lives with his father, Jensen, and they happen to have an extra room. Hal never knew his father until recently. His mother got pregnant when she was only sixteen years old and never told Jensen. It wasn't until she got sick and that she even told Hal who his father was. So now, as they are trying to build a father/son relationship, Aideen arrives.

Jensen makes a terrible first impression and Aideen finds that she is uncomfortable around him. He drinks too much. He's moody and can be quite rude. He looks at her in a way that he definitely shouldn't and he is the last person she should be around. But he is also extremely good looking and she finds herself drawn to him and he feels the same way about her. He knows that his son has feelings for Aideen, but his attraction to her is just too strong. And although they both have their issues and consider themselves to be broken people, when they are together they are able to forget everything and just be.

A relationship between the two of them is such a bad idea. They have a lot going against them. First there is the age difference. Then there is the fact that Hal had feelings for Aideen and she has no idea. But probably the most problematic thing is that they are both dealing with tragic events from their past. Aideen suffered a person loss that still haunts her and Jensen still struggles with his military past. As a couple they should have never worked, but they did. Their relationship ended up being EXACTLY what they needed, and to me, they made perfect sense.

This book was a pleasant surprise in the best, dirtiest way possible. Good lord. Aideen and Jensen were HOT. Jensen's dirty talk was off the charts. The sexual tension between then will have you thinking "Good lord, just do it already!" Ans then when they actually do you will need a cold shower and a panty change. And while people may think this book falls into the "taboo" category, to me, nothing about their relationship felt wrong.

I actually don't read a lot of books that are considered taboo and I recently read another older man/younger woman book that I enjoyed, so I was willing to give this one a shot. And I'm so glad I did. Stephanie did a great job with building their relationship and not once did it go down the "Oh this feels very wrong" path.

My Review (ARC provided)
4-4.5 stars!

I have never been disappointed with a book Stephanie has written, this one takes on a more forbidden topic than her others. It's a bit taboo, a little bit angsty and whole lot steamy.

Aideen (h) has left home for the first time, her best friend Hal has offered her a place to stay until she gets settled. Hal has strong feelings for Aideen to which she is oblivious of, and unfortunately the feelings are not reciprocated. Aideen hasn't let herself become involved or feel anything since her last relationship which hurt her deeply.

Jenson (H) Hal's father has a lot of deep rooted issues from his time in the military, he doesn't let himself love and has only just found out he has a son sixteen years younger than him. He doesn't know how to be a father and when his son's best friend and very apparent crush comes to stay with him he feels something he shouldn't, but it's also something that make him want. He’s never felt this way but he doesn’t want to risk his son’s heart.

This book was almost a five star read for me. It pushed boundaries I wasn’t even comfortable with, and that's saying something. The age got me, maybe it's because this could happen and I have a daughter, but it's like, wow wait a minute is sixteen years really that bad? It is, no it isn't. That was mind while reading this book. And then the other part loved Hal that I didn't want to see him hurt. If I got a perspective from him I think that would have made this book five stars for me, only because I felt his character was so essential to the story. I would've also loved to get to know Jenson's background more.

All in all this was a very well written and thought out book. It has the type of characters you don’t know if you should love or hate, Jenson especially.

Another great book by Stephanie Witter.

Aideen is attracted but she shouldn't be. After a tragic relationship, Aideen is moving to a new town with a fresh start. Staying with her best friend Hal and his father Jenson till she finds an apartment. But she didn't know she would be drawn to her best friend's moody father.

Jensen is attracted but he shouldn't be. Jensen knows that the forbidden feelings for his son's secret crush can only end in disaster. Jensen is too old, too broken, and living for his next drink.

I love a good taboo read and Stephanie Witter has written an excellent one. The main characters Jensen and Aideen are both so heart broken but in different ways.

I was fascinated by Jensen. Stephanie Witter did not pretty him up one bit. He was a dark, moody, beaten down man. When life and emotions get too much for him to handle his first thought is to reach for a bottle. He knows what he is doing to himself and others around him but doesn't care. Then Aideen comes in his life and she becomes his light, his safe harbor. He risks so much to be with her knowing it will damage the new relationship he has with his son. There were so many sides of Jensen I couldn't get enough.

Aideen was just as broken. She was leaving bad to finally start her life. She was young but I didn't feel like her age was an issue at all. Aideen was too wise, too old soul. As she was Jensen's light and calm, so was Jensen for Aideen. With him she found peace.

The sex was so hot and I know the taboo relationship and age factor totally amped that aspect. Just like they needed each other to mend, that bleed into their sexual chemistry. I really enjoyed this book!

Five Wildly Amazing Stars! Jensen is an ex veteran, who has demons in his closet and now he finds out he has an adult son, Hal. Jensen is drowning his sorrows with alcohol until he meets Aideen, he is instantly attracted to her but needs to deny the attraction because of Hal. Aideen is Hal's best friend but she is running away from her past. Aideen meets Jensen and feels the instant attraction towards him but knows she should avoid him. What will happen if they give into their attraction? I loved this story it is a forbidden love story. The author had me from the first page and I kept turning the pages wanting to know more. Aideen and Jensen have amazing passion. I will be looking for more books by this author! Highly recommend!

Holy smoke, this book is HOT HOT HOT! The storyline is pretty insane and I'm glad of the ending, my emotions have been in turmoil through the whole darn thing. Absolutely fantastic.

The characters played the part well, they were descriptive and I love how this author eased into the story. The sex was something in a porn video and I found myself fanning myself ALOT.

I can't wait for everyone to read this because it's AWESOME!

This should’ve been a great read for me. It has everything I love - age gaps, best friend’s dad... but it just fell flat for me.

I was bored at 35% in and started skimming. The sex scenes did nothing for me. I didn’t feel the connection between Aideen and Jensen at all and while I felt a little bit bad for Hal, I didn’t really connect with him either. He also started seeming a little asshole-ish, especially when he acted like Aideen was “his girl” but she really had no feelings for him other than friendship.

I also got a little tired of Jensen calling Aideen “beautiful” every other time he said something to her. It was a bit redundant.

I was surprised that I didn’t like this much especially with all the 4 and 5 star ratings on this book, but it just wasn’t for me. Oh well.

I did appreciate the epilogue with the HEA though. That’s always a good thing.

A younger/older romance. What happens when you run from the town of problems that you feel guilty about and come to stay with your best friend and his dad. And the minute you meet the man of the house, you begin to have feelings that you have never experienced for. This is what Aideen is feeling when she meets Jensen. She had a best friend/boyfriend who she greatly loved and lost over a year ago but the feelings she has are more intense now and she feels guilty when she knows that he is her friends father and that there is a 16 year gap. Jensen is feeling lost from his time in the army and his world is still rocky when only in the past few month he finds out he has a son that he didn't know of. Trying to remain stable by drinking and occasionally satisfying his urges with anyone. He offers his son and his friend a place to stay. His world is once again shaken when he meets Aideen, something about her makes him feel different and sees that she is also carrying scars like he is. These 2 slowly begin to embrace the tension between them as time passes. And once they succumb to their desires they are on unstable ground on how to move forward. They must make a decision of what they have is really something beneficial for both, that they cannot live without and come out to their loved ones about their love. It was brutal near the end, but the epilogue made me happy. And I look forward to a few more stories for some secondary characters mentioned in this book.

I loved this book. Who knew a story about a girl who falls in love with her best friends father would have such an impact. This book is about two hurt confused souls who eventhough they are years apart in age and don't seem like the right choice for each other end up being the perfect choice. As you read the story of Jensen and Aideen you feel every emotion that they feel as they come to terms with what they are to each other .

This is my first Stephanie Witter story, and she completely wowed me with it. I've read tons of step-sibling, friends-to-lovers, enemies-to-lovers themed books, but never have I read one where the girl falls for her best friend's father. It was flipping fantastic!

Aideen has been scarred by something from her past. She's not ready for a relationship. That is until she meets the brooding, usually drunk father of her best friend. There is an instant connection when the two meet, and although they both feel it's wrong pursuing any sort of a relationship; they are unable to stop it from happening.

Are you looking for a gruff, dirty talking, ex-military hero? If you are, Jensen's your man. The guy is downright sexy, and I dare you not to fall madly in love with him. Oh, and there's this one scene...mmmmmm...it involves no clothes and a motorcycle. Scorching!

This story had it all for me: hot sex, angst, and a love that consumes you. If the rest of this author's books are anything like this one, I'm going to be a huge fan of hers.

Sexy hard to put down book!

This was a story I couldn't put down! It was mostly sexy but I was even brought to tears once or twice. The sex scenes were steamy yet there was a solid plot with well-developed characters. I read the whole book in one day!

We Shouldn't and Yet is a new, standalone taboo romance by Author Stephanie Witter.

"What are you ready to do for love? Because I'm ready to go all the way and fight for us. I'm ready to do everything you want me to..."

The beginning of this story made me salivate. Aideen and Hal are friends, close friends. Hal has a definite attraction to her, but Aideen is a bit unsure of her feelings for him and safety in allowing herself to embrace these physical and emotional attachments. Hal currently lives with Jensen, his estranged father whom he just met in recent times. Their relationship is a bit new and untrodden. Aideen comes to visit and Jensen fights the immediate attraction he has for her, wanting to insure his son has a chance to get the girl. But, the undercurrent of attraction between Aideen and Jensen doesn’t wane, but instead increases with each glance they take at each other.

"I'm losign it with you, beautiful. I'm lost on the very edge of the cliff now and at any time I'm going f***ing jump."

Told in dual points of view, We Shouldn't and Yet definitely fit the taboo vibe, taking me into the world of the forbidden and untouchable. There were times when the mood shift in the story was a little too swift, making me reread to determine why. But when it came time for Aideen and Jensen to explore their sexual attraction to one another, a thousand stars swirled in the sky, creating a cacophony of wonder and amazement; this was definitely the most compelling and gripping aspect of the book. Their chemistry translated into so much more though. I loved that they became each other's safe haven, where they were on equal ground with mutual respect and admiration. Regardless of their obstacles, they gave into their desire and fascination with one another to take a chance at finding something greater. These aspects made this an enjoyable escape.

"Let yourself escape everything for just a little while. Let yourself go and your mind go blank. Let me give you that reprieve..."

I thought I was settling down for a nice quiet afternoon, a good read in my hand, confident in the fact that Stephanie Witter would look after me; that her book would both comfort and cosset me like I thought…not a chance!
Honestly woman big red letters next time, to let me know I am going to be incapacitated the entire afternoon!!!
I sort of thought I knew where this was going to head, so I suppose the level of my surprise is exactly what I deserved because assumption is the mother of all a***ache and I fully deserved to have my a** handed to me on a plate! I felt cold clocked by a belter of a story!!!
So hooking up an older guy with the girl that just happens to be the best friend of the grown up son he just found out about and moreover the girl that his son is interested in is one way to set the cat amongst the pigeons.
I believe age is nothing more than a number and that you cannot dictate who your heart sets its sights on but add the family dynamic into the mix, the father/son relationship and this was going to get dirty in every single sense of the word.
The connection between the two main characters though definitely caught me by surprise it was OFF THE CHARTS HOT!!
They set the page alight but there was more between them than simply what was going on between the sheets so to speak. I liked the fact that they had a connection that went much further than just their physical attraction, they had the makings of something that would go the distance, they just had to avoid the pitfalls to get it off the ground but once they did there really was no looking back.
I think if I had to call my favourite, I would say it was Jensen, there was a solidity about him, an assurance that she was in a safe pair of hands and boy did he know exactly what to do with those hands!!! He absolutely owned his alpha attitude…
One small criticism, the ending seemed to happen a little too quickly for my liking but the epilogue sort of compensated for that a little bit.
