This is a true story of a soldiers journey through the Iraq war and his relentless battle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Private Boney joined the U.S. Army in 2003. After basic and advanced medical training, he was deployed to Iraq with the 1st Calvary Divisions 15th Forward Support Battalion in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. Follow along as he recalls his experience as a combat medic surviving mortar attacks, assisting casualties, and a gruesome gorilla warfare fight in the Wadi-Us-Salaam cemetery; the largest in the world.
I think it is important to see war through the eyes of those who were there. My dad was in Korea, my brother was in Vietnam, and my son was in Iraq. It's difficult to see loved ones suffer, sometimes all we can do is love them. My son is not going to tell me about his experiences but reading Boney 's story helped me understand. I just wish he had written more about his recovery! Thank you for revisiting your experience so we can benefit.
The author presents a visual experience of war that can only be found by someone who has lived that experience. Will continue to keep this fellow combat soldier in my prayers.
As a veteran who also went to war and was never expected to be on the front lines as a support MOS, this book was good. I started reading it and didn't put it down until I finished ... almost makes me miss being on deployment again.
One weakness, he only covers his basic combat training totally ignores his medic training. One part reminded me of 'Pain Is Weakness Leaving the Body' by Lyle Jeremy Rubin when Samuel Murry Boney, IV discusses his trying out for Special Forces.
Heartrending at times. Boney made me feel what he was going through. Intense combat during a conflict we couldn’t understand. Well done, gentle soldier. God bless you
