Contains Forty New, Never-Before-Published DevotionsAt the height of Nazi power, amid the horrors of a concentration camp, the seeds of faith and forgiveness grew to fruition in the heart of a young Dutch woman named Corrie ten Boom. Outlasting Ravensbrück and Hitler’s regime, Corrie went on to accomplish what brute power never could: conquering hearts across the world with healing words of hope, forgiveness, and trust in God.This is Corrie ten Boom at her best and most inspiring. These forty timeless devotionals remind you of the treasures of faith in Christ, the mysteries of God’s kingdom, and joy of a surrender that leads you out of fear into the freedom of love and forgiveness.I Stand at the Door and Knock offers timeless messages of faith, hope, and forgiveness from a veteran saint.
Corrie ten Boom and her family were Christians who were active in social work in their home town of Haarlem, the Netherlands. During the Nazi occupation, they chose to act out their faith through peaceful resistance to the Nazis by active participation in the Dutch underground. They were hiding, feeding and transporting Jews and underground members hunted by the Gestapo out of the country. It is estimated they were able to save the lives of 800 Jews, in addition to protecting underground workers.
On Feb. 28, 1944, they were betrayed and Corrie and several relatives were arrested. The four Jews and two underground workers in the house at the time of the arrest were not located by the Nazis and were extricated by the underground 47 hours after they fled to the tiny hiding place (located in Corrie's room).
The ten Boom family members were separated and transferred to concentration camps. Corrie was allowed to stay with her precious sister, Betsy. Corrie's father (Casper), her sister (Betsy) and one grandchild (Kik) perished. Corrie was released in December of 1944.
These acts of heroism and sacrifice became the foundation for Corrie ten Boom's global writing and speaking career which began after she was released.
Ten Boom has received numerous awards for her writing and speaking. Notably, she was honored by the State of Israel for her work in aid of the Jewish people by being invited to plant a tree in the famous Avenue of the Righteous Gentiles, at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum, near Jerusalem. She was also knighted by the Queen of the Netherlands in recognition of her work during the war, and a museum in the Dutch city of Haarlem is dedicated to her and her family.
100 stars!! This book is amazing. I generally dislike devotionals, so I approached this with apprehension. But, my goodness, I have been so blessed by it. Corrie's faith and love in and for Jesus is incredible and it pours through every sentence she writes. The devotionals are short and easy to read. They are written in such a simple way that it is possible to put them right into action. She doesn't try to sound super smart or religious by using hard to understand langauge, but she makes hard topics so easy to understand. I grew a lot in my faith (and cried a lot) because of this book. Every Christian should read it!!
A nice short read from a Protestant point of view. One great liner in the book bears repeating. Someone told another that God was dead. That person responded, "That isn't true, I just talked to Him this morning!"
I listened to this book on Audible (which was well done, by the way) and used it as a devotional. It's a collection of her radio devotional broadcasts and, I found, more interesting and appropriate to listen to than to read. I felt challenged and encouraged as I worked my way through it. Corrie Ten Boom offers her fellow Christians love, encouragement and a good challenge. I very much enjoyed listening to this.
I have read this book twice since I received it and each time I am blessed, encouraged, convicted, and inspired. I am in awe at how Corrie's words still resonate with believers so many years later. This book is filled with devotions that are guaranteed to uplift you. She worded each one with scriptures and perfectly paired them with simple yet powerful prayers. I'd give it 10 stars if I could!
“Just look to Him. Sometimes we are so occupied with ourselves, while we need to be occupied with God. Simply say Lord I don’t quite understand, but I will accept your conditions, and then I can and must surrender completely. Then You will bless me and turn me into a blessing.” 📖 I love Corrie ten Boom. What a remarkable woman she was. She used her experiences to show people Gods love for mankind, and I admire that so much. God used her life for His glory, and her writings and devotions continue to be a blessing to so many. I loved this little book. Isn’t it amazing how when we seek out God through scripture and teachings, He provides just what our soul needed. Highly recommended this book, or any other books by Corrie ten Boom.
Corrie ten Boom is one of my favorite authors. Her style is exceedingly simplistic and so easy to understand. She uses every-day analogies that help to cement her stories and bring them to mind during normal activities.
Corrie ten Boom lived in the Netherlands during WW2 and she, along with her family, were very involved with working with the underground networks and hiding a handful of Jews, and supplying transportation, ration cards, and homes for countless others. Although this book doesn't talk about that, it does touch on her years in concentration camps and then often mentions forgiveness and how their story helped others as they traveled around.
The book is actually a transcript of devotionals she shared on the radio, so it reads very much like a chat, with mentions of the people who are listening and on the other side of the radio. It was unique in that way and made it seem more personal.
Like all of Corrie's books, this one had great insight and was told in a compelling manner. I didn't agree with 100% of it, but I still recommend it and look forward to re-reading it in the future.
Collection of brief encouraging messages originally broadcast on radio, with Macy's stories from the Holocaust. They are made positive and powerful by the fact that the author lived what she taught. If you want encouragement, read it!
Anything written by Corrie ten Boom is going to be brilliant. Her experience surviving the concentration camps, and not allowing it to turn her bitter and full of hate makes her someone to learn from. Her sage wisdom and insight into the Word of God was forged in the most intense darkness imaginable. This book is an arrangement of unearthed radio records she had done many years ago. While they are not read by her, the voice has a strong dutch accent and seems as though Corrie herself is reading them.
I wanted to start off the year with a short, spiritual book. I knew the life story of Corrie ten Boom, so I had expected the book to relay a similar message as THE HIDING PLACE. To my unexpected surprise, it was a book filled with shore Christian lessons in grow and commitment. It is worth mentioning that the devotionals are quite poignant and speak directly to the reader, as these are transposed and translated radio addresses.
The book is worth a quality first read, followed by a second more thorough read. The thoughts contained within each section progressively define the life a person should live, while philosophically discussing biblical passages and connecting the verses with the subject being discussed. Reading one or two sections per day will help the reader to develop a fuller understanding of the commitment to Christ that the author describes.
I highly recommend this book for anyone searching the truth that can be found in Christianity. This isn't your modern viewpoint; it describes a belief in strong faith and following the example of the love of Christ. Read it for yourself to get the lessons within.
I really enjoyed this book. Corrie ten Boom has so much wisdom to share and I enjoyed reading of her experiences and learning from her adventures in serving God.
These chapters are very short, so it makes for a nice, short read and I really liked that about it. I could just sit and read a chapter in just a few minutes and glean so much wisdom!
I thought I had read all of her books in my late twenties. This book is some never before published devotions from her radio program. They are excellent. If you want to draw closer to the Lord and get your toes stepped on, read this. I wish to live a life for the Lord half of the way she did and it would be a large improvement.
These devotionals were very encouraging and uplifting. I read them from my phone and it was great to have them there. Each one only takes a minute or two to read, and can brighten the day. They are written in a simple and straight-forward manner, and give a sense of the author's deep devotion and closeness to God. It inspires the reader to draw closer to God and find peace and strength there.
"When my faith doesn't run smoothly, I never try to repair it but I send it back to Jesus, the manufacturer, the author and perfecter of my faith. And when He repairs it, it works so precisely." - Corrie Ten Boom.
Her books are so rich and help me to grow in my faith in Christ. Pick up any one of her books and be blessed.
After reading (and LOVING) Corrie ten Boom's WWII memoir "The Hiding Place", I was intrigued to learn she had many more books. This one is a book of 40 meditations transcribed from radio shows she did in the 1960s. These meditations were a great read before bedtime. Apparently there are more of these radio show meditation books out there and I plan to seek them out.
Corrie has caught the esense of Jesus statement, "Forgive them for they know not what they do." I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a better understanding of "who we are in Christ,"
This is a collection of radio devotions that Corrie had written but never gave. They were discovered after her death. She has such a profound but simple way of presenting the gospel. Her passion for the lost and her messages of forgiveness, hope and love are always inspiring.
After the Hiding Place, I had no idea the author has written so much. This was such an uplifting read, I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is a person who has met Jesus Christ and used up His atoning sacrifice. "Hallelujah! What a Savior! Amen!"
I just love reading Corrie ten Boom's stuff: so rich, deep, and compassionate. I think I'm almost all the way through with her complete works now, which makes me happysad.
