Okay, where to start?
I know! Let's start with AWESOME! Anyone who knows me, knows that I love me some Julie Cassar books. The Ruby Blue series was, without a doubt, my favie YA series ... ever. This book, though, was WOWWWW. It was so different, so imaginative, I immediately started reading it again as soon as I finished it. Oh my gosh....swoon city, guys. I don't want to give any spoilers, but I will say that this book was perfectly balanced, hotter than hell at all the right spots, and just fantastic enough to be a new favorite. Well done!

My last, and very best read of 2015!!

So I have just finished Stealing Light by the Awesomeness that is Julie Cassar, and I am both excited and sad... So excited for this new adventure to be published and sad that I finished too fast. I'm just going to have to read it again. :)
What a connection these two main characters have, truly heavenly...
I love listening to the dual angles of Cece's back and forth indecisiveness about what she is feeling against what she is thinking and what she is seeing. Also, how she is not sure who or what to trust.
I dont want to give any spoilers, but I can say this:
1) Soul mates are not always your significant other, rather someone you know you have known for lifetimes. That have been a part of you in some form or another in every life you have lived. And I personally don't believe we have just one.
2) Guardian Angels are always with us. Sometimes we feel them, sometimes we hear them and sometimes we see them, but wouldn't even know it.
3) People are put into your life line for a reason. Pay attention to who is near you and who your heart and soul feel connected to. There is a reason!

I'm going to make this short and sweet. It has been a while since I read an angel themed book and it felt good to be back in that genre. I for one am I big fan of angels, whether they be good, guardian or fallen. So when I started this one I was elated to see it was of the guardian sort. And a little of the fallen.

It was such a great read and it held my attention the whole way through. It had me questioning a few characters and getting all googly eyed whenever a certain angel would show up. It was well written and definitely romantic. It was snarky in some parts and heartbreaking in others. All in all, it is what I consider a perfect read.

Enjoyable characters, suspenseful plot, major hotness-STEALING LIGHT deserves all the stars!!! 5 Stars!!

Oh My. What can I really say about Stealing Light?!? It was outstanding, mind blowing, freaking amazing and captivating!! I was asked by the author to give an honest review of her new book. And like all her previous books I always have high expectations because I know this lady is incredible. However, this one is on a completely different level to her previous books. It's more mature, more serious and a lot darker!!

I'm so glad I decided to review this book. It's different than what I normally read. But it's good.
Cecilia lost her parents in a car accident and started having visions. That's when she learned about guardian angles and how she could do good in the world. Then comes Cash. Her one true soul mate. But there's something dark after her. Can love conquer all?

Loved the premise of the book. Love the characters.

I hope there will be more!

stealing light has the smooth penmanship that one would only hope for from julie. It's a completely different story line than her previous books... but definitely no less of an amazing story line! I would love to dig into the who's and what. I will warn you to probably have a tissue handy and be ready to swoon over Cassius.

A completely original story. I have always been fascinated with angels. This book made me believe. The author expertly weaves reality and fantasy into a plausible and enticing world. Plus the battle of light versus dark and good versus evil. I absolutely loved this book!

***

My review, as usual, starts with the book cover. This cover is not going to win any prizes. I’m not pulled in, not tempted to buy this book based on the cover alone. Having said that, the cover is totally effective in setting up my expectations for the book’s contents.

It is dark, it is mysterious, it speaks silently of unspeakable horror.

And that’s the kind of oxymoron that drives reader’s curiosity to resolve the contradiction, to satisfy one’s curiosity by reading the book. Well done, yes, but risky in a world where readers judge books by their covers.

The book is currently ranked at number 137 in its genre (supernatural, psychic, paranormal), so I must conclude that Julie Cassar’s gamble on the maturity of her readers has paid off. “Fortes fortuna juvat!” (fortune favors the brave).

Julie’s readers, evidently, do not judge a book by its cover, like I do. And they understand the genre-specific symbolism that is evident in her choice of cover artwork. Again, it has paid a handsome dividend for her.

This is the first time I’ve read something by this author, so I didn’t know what to expect in terms of writing style, authorial agenda, or tendencies. I requested an Advance Review Copy because I wanted to read something with a plot containing good vs evil. I was curious to see how Julie Cassar would work it into the thread of her narrative. As you might expect, the book crosses genre boundaries. You find supernatural, paranormal, horror, romance, thriller, suspense, mysticism and eroticism all residing harmoniously within the covers of this book.

Here, I want to share an extract from the book, taken from pages 151-152, which shows the author dealing with multiple layers of meaning and multiple genres:

EXTRACT: “The next blissful ninety minutes passed with ease and laughter between the two of us as conversation, good food, and wine flowed. Cash asked all kinds of questions about what I’d been up to over the last four years, and I, in turn, asked about all of the wondrous things he must have seen in his Stealing Light 242 years.

All too soon, Cash was paying the check and taking my hand to escort me out of the restaurant.

As we walked outside in the cool, night air, I pouted. “I don’t want the evening to end.”

Smiling, he put his arm around my shoulder, hugged me close to his side and simply answered, “Then it shall not.”

The warmth I felt spread from my wide grin, and flowed down into my chest, filling me with a delicious giddiness. A rare sensation that I’ve only recently begun to feel, and each time, only in the presence of Cash.

We strolled back to my apartment above the coffee shop and gazed at the star-filled night. Looking up at the glittering sky, I was reminded of something I had wanted to ask him.

“Where are your wings?” I said as I peered up at his gorgeous face, barely illuminated in the darkness. “And … is it … possible that I could have seen you flying earlier today? I could have sworn I saw a sparkling light stream across the sky when you left the coffee shop earlier to find Aaron.”

Looking down at me with a heart-melting smile, he answered, “My wings are always with me, Cecelia. Angels’ wings are not something that humans typically ever see. And … yes, I suppose you could see me. You’ve seen so much more than I Stealing Light could have ever expected you to.”

His voice was full of wonder and … what? Amazement? Longing? I wasn’t quite sure. I don’t know why I suddenly felt self-conscious, but I did. I turned away from him and looked down at our feet, as he hugged me closer to his side. Heat rose between us and the air seemed to crackle between our skins. What was that? I’d never felt such desire for someone before.” (end of extract)

So, what do we have here? Point of view is interesting to comment on, given the level of intimacy between Cash and Cecilia. For me, the author has chosen well, using FIRST PERSON POINT OF VIEW. This takes the narration and moves it completely into the interior of one character, Cecilia.

Why is this good? Since in first person, the story is told by Cecilia directly, the author as intervening narrator is completely eliminated. Julie Cassar is adding a bit of extra immediacy/urgency to the story and making Cecilia’s “emotional state” clear.

Indeed, it is quite clear that Cecilia is going to give in to the physical desire for Cash that she is feeling. She wants him, she needs him, she desires him, and the whole evening has been leading up to this moment. The pages of the book seem to be heating up in anticipation of what is coming next.

And as we turn the next page, expecting the normal progression of Cecilia’s desire, we are met with a bit of masterful authorial artistry. I won’t tell you what happens on this page, but it is literally a master stroke from the pen of a highly skilled author.

To sum up, I don’t like the cover of this book. However, between the covers of this book is a brilliantly narrated story that fans of the genre will surely appreciate. I take note that the book only has 6 reviews on Amazon so far. It deserves at least 10 times as many. 60 reviews would make this book more easily discoverable for a wider range of readers of this genre. As for me, I look forward to reading more from this author in the future. I give “Stealing Light“, by Julie Cassar, 5 well deserved stars.

This was a unique and interesting story. It's a wonderful Paranormal story that captured my attention at the turning every page. It's a story like no other and had me smiling or cringing depending on the scene. The characters were phenomenal and I felt quite a connection with CeeCee. She was an amazing character so full of emotion and wonder. The story-line was incredible. I loved how the story kept me guessing. I highly recommend this read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

This is a wonderful paranormal romantic suspense novel. I really enjoyed it!

Cecelia Walker is a character that really got under my skin. I wanted to like her - in fact I did in the beginning - but as the story unfolded I found myself being annoyed by her. I think it was her whiny "why me" attitude that got me in the end. This doesn't normally happen to me, its usually the other way around. I found myself rolling my eyes and hoping that the bad guys would "steal her light" and get it over with. However, this is my opinion and other readers may not have such uncharitable thoughts about the main protagonist. Maybe if I had read it on a different day I would have had a different reaction. Who knows?

So, you're wondering why the four stars: This is because I really did enjoy the story. I enjoyed meeting the various characters who came alive on the page and was quickly drawn into the story, which is told through CeeCee's eyes. Though this book has a darker theme than the author's YA/Teen Ruby Blue series, it has the warmth and humour that is the signature writing style of the author. I loved meeting CeeCee's friend Elliot who, though she is only in a few scenes, has an amazing energy that jumped off the page. I also liked meeting Aaron, I will not say much about him as I don't want to give spoilers and Cash made my heart skitter.

This story is full of shadows and suspense, which kept me hooked. The mystery of the shadowy figures and their sudden appearance in CeeCee's life sent shivers up my spine. When something is later revealed, it clarified a suspicion I had about them. However, I will not say anything more in case I accidentally give a spoiler. There are a few twists I didn't see coming and danger from a fallen angel bent on stealing CeeCee's light. Zacharael is a brooding presence for the most part and only makes an appearance later in the book, but his evil intent pervades the story from the beginning.

I reached the end of the book with mixed feelings. I struggled with my unusual dislike of CeeCee, though felt happy at how the story wrapped up. Whether this is a stand-alone or the start of a new series, time will tell. However, if there is another book I will definitely consider reading it.

Julie Cassar is one of my favourite authors, and I will read any of her books in the future. Her characters are very lifelike and virtually leap off the page. I also love her fast paced writing style, which seems to flow effortlessly from scene to scene. I am in awe of her talent.

Although there are scenes of a sexual nature, they are not explicit and fade out, so if you are looking for something a little more racy, this book may not be for you. However, I highly recommend this book if you love new adult paranormal romances. - Lynn Worton

I received this book to give an honest review.
I have read the Ruby Blue series by this author and she did a great job with that. So when I saw she was writing a new book that was not like the Ruby Blue series I was very intrigued to see what it would be about. The cover and title just calls for you to read it and wondering what exactly is Stealing Light? Sounds paranormal right? Well it deals with angels, light, darkness and things called the Aninox. The book starts off pretty powerful we learn that CeeCee has tragedy hit her pretty hard and ever since that day she has been learning to cope and run a coffee shop. After a few years she starts getting visions of things that will happen though she has no clue as to what that is about until she meets her guardian angel and slowly starts learning about her gift. It seems she is very unique with her light but as we know darkness will try to stop that light no matter the cost.
Now as she is learning via her guardian angel we also learn that a piece of her is missing though she doesn't quite realize it until she meets Cash. Oh Cash, Cash, Cash what are we gonna do with you? You makes women do nothing but dote and stare though they don't mean to. I guess that is the power of an angel. We see the romance that slowly blossoms between these two characters and you can not help but wonder will it last between them? Especially since a dark figure just wants CeeCee's light.
Now characters So I really loved CeeCee's friend Elliot we don't get much of her but she makes a powerful impact when she is brought into the story. Her sassy attitude and how she says what she wants and feels works.
Cash as you know Cash is very handsome and I really loved how the author was able to capture the love he has for CeeCee and how he would protect her no matter what.
CeeCee.....so at first I really liked her as a character and then she slowly started becoming annoying. She had this attitude about her when it came to people withholding information no matter how many times her guardian angel told her he couldn't say much it was against the rules. It was just something about her that just threw me off later on in the book that I can not put my finger on.
Other than that I have to say this book was a very good read from the beginning. I really enjoyed how the author explained the Aninox and what they stood for it.

CeeCee is a young girl that has been forced to live an adult life from too early of an age. CeeCee’s Parents were killed in a car accident at an early age, and she now lives her life from day to day running the coffee shop they all loved. I can't imagine being that dedicated to something that reminds you of exactly what you have been denied. Yet CeeCee does this day after day, with honor and love!
Her life is filled with coffee, running, and regret.
CeeCee learns slowly that she is different, she is developing the ability to see the future and it's up to her just how she uses this gift.
That concept alone is a fantastic story, then Julie Cassar gut punches you in the feels and you travel on this magical journey with CeeCee. We learn that there is more to her gift than anyone knew, she learns she is stronger than she could ever dream, and then... and then she gives us the dream team of Aaron and Cash.
Thanks for the snot fest Julie!
Seriously, Julie Cassar continues to blow my mind with her ability to mold the story into yet another work of art. Between me laughing at CeeCee's snark, to Aaron's humility, Cash's determination... I need more of this in my life!
Impatiently waiting for book two!!

Stealing Light is probably only one of the few books I wanted to read just because of the author. I have been following her on social media and I thought that her style was pretty cool. When she graciously offered the book for a review I jumped a t the chance!

First off all let me say this, I did not expect the book to turn out the way it did. Looking at the cover and the blurb, I thought it would be like a murder mystery sort of book , boy was I wrong.

Stealing Light took me completely by surprise. I really liked the author's take on angels and the way she built the whole book world. The writing style was pretty good and easy to follow. If I had to point out one negative it would be that I wish the book was a little more descriptive. At certain places I felt like I needed a bit more to just enjoy the book better I guess? I don't know I'm just being picky here because I really liked the book and this was just one thing that bothered me. Oh and I HAVE to mention the fact that the characters are really well thought out, from their mannerisms and the way they talk, I adore that the author put so much personality into each of the characters.

Overall, loved the book! Can we get book 2 soon? Please?

~~I received this in exchange for my honest opinion~~

Why oh why can't there be more stars on the rating scale???!!!! Anymore I have gone into reading every book with an open mind. I have stopped reading the blurbs because I want to go into the book not knowing anything. So far I have been amazed at the story line. This book, Stealing Light, is above and beyond what I expected. Stealing Light is written beautifully with quotes from the Bible. No, this book is not a religious book. Stealing Light is a book about guardian angels and the struggle between the light and the dark.

Julie has written a beautiful book. The characters have great chemistry with one another. She makes sure that you get just enough information at the right times. Yes, you will be sitting on the edge of your seat; no, you will not be disappointed in this book; Yes, there is horse racing in this book; No, you cannot place bets with your local bookie.

If you have ever read any of Julie's book, you will not be disappointed at all. You will love this book. If you have never read and of Julie's book, you need to start reading them. You will love her books just as much as I do!

Oh. My. Gosh! Stealing Light is a unique and very awesome story about love, light, guardian angels, dark evilness, discovering one's true self, and learning about the power within. And I loved every minute of it! I was so sad when it ended. But...... I learned from the author that she is currently working on the sequel! Yay! Yay! Yay!!

I loved CeeCee and I loved watching as she discovers her Gift of Light and as she comes to terms with the fact that she has had a guardian angel all these years. She and her brother lost their parents in a horrible car accident four years ago and she has felt so lost and alone since then. Discovering all the beautifulness around her is a wonderful thing, but along with all this beauty and love comes darkness and evil. Is she strong enough to survive all that evil?

I love the idea of guardian angels watching over us so I thoroughly enjoyed this story of Julie's, centering around these angels. It was amazing to read how she was able to put human thoughts and emotions into these beings. What a beautiful, intense, and captivating story! Hurry up with book #2, Julie!

Can't Steal What Is Given!

Oh.My.Gosh! Cassar's Ruby Blue series are my favorite books of all my 57 years...2nd only to TWILIGHT! And don't EVEN say I'm too old to be reading RUBY books! There is no age limit to learn of another World and going there & sharing exciting times with your friends! It's the same with STEALING LIGHT! Although totally different, they are somewhat the same, in that they are filled with Cassar's MAGIC of taking us to places we've never been! She shows us new realms... Heaven and Angels...this time that we know exist, but that we know nothing of! And she's going to allow US a glimpse of that world! Although a wonderful work of fiction...she weaves a story we can only hope & pray is true! A story of Love, Guardians, & true devotion. I really hope there is another book in this series as I am dying to know what happens with Cash & Cee Cee from this point forward! Awesome book! Loved it! If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! I know "Love is Patient" but hurry up with a sequel!!!

~I was given this book for an honest review~

This is a first for me. I don't normally read book like this but I'm glad I did. I was captivated by this story. The book drew me in from the first page and I couldn't stop reading it. There's just something beautiful about guardian angels and how they protect us. Cecelia or Ceecee as they sometimes call her, is simply amazing. She loses her parents but in turn gets a special gift. She can see things that most people can't. Cassius, is a guardian angel but he made a decision that changed his life forever. He's in love with Cecelia and will do everything he can to protect her from the darkness. I don't want to give a lot away but be prepared to be blown away and look at the world a different way. This book was good vs Evil. I loved every minute of this book. So incredibly beautiful especially the fight scene at the end, I had tears in my eyes. I have found another incredible author to love!

This is an extremely different read than any of the other books done by this author. This book is centered around heaven vs hell, good vs evil and keeps you guessing what is going to happen next. The book starts with a life altering event, that leads us to meeting the heroines guardian angel. I wish we had a few more details in the story line and details about some of the characters. I would have liked to have gotten to know them better. However the story line is amazing and can hold its own.

Outstanding! Amazing!

I love the way the book intertwines bible verses into the story and how the characters show their emotions. Just the way the emotions go on it runs off the pages is amazing. On Facebook I seen that there is going to be a second book, I cannot wait. Just like the "Ruby Blue" series I love this book just like those books, I suggest this book to everyone. It is a outstanding and amazing book.

Lets be honest i thought after Ruby's series nothing could hold up...but OMG Stealing Light had me hooked on the first couple of pages. It had EVERY emotion thoughtfully put into place. Cee cee had no idea what she was capable of and Cash BAM that came out of the BLUE (HEHE Ruby Blue) but seriously if you have not read this book you need to do so ASAP but if you dont then you are the one missing out on the magical paranormal. Great job Julie can't wait to read more from you!

I originally read Stealing Light in 2016 and absolutely loved it. I recently listened to the audio-book and fell in love with the story all over again. The narrator, Kelley Ernst, does a fabulous job reading the book and really nailed CeeCee's character. She made CeeCee come to life for me. I've also read book two, Chasing Darkness and I can't wait for the opportunity to listen to it.

Julie Cassar has a way of pulling you into a story and believing the mythology she created. This was a nice story that I will certainly recommend to others. However, I now have an anxiety about stairs! I do hope there will be more books in this series as I think there's a lot more Ms. Cassar can do with the characters.

Stealing Light. The title doesn't say anything about what lies between the covers. What we get is a more mature story from the author of the Ruby Blue series. Cassar deftly weaves together a tale of tragedy, guardian angels, a forbidden love, a fallen angel, and the undecided darkness. Quite the cast of characters she's bringing us.

CeeCee has had a rough go of things ever since her parents died in a car accident. Since then, her older brother has raised her. Something happens that enables CeeCee to see more of the world around her than she ever thought was possible. What she now sees has always been there - and now she knows how dangerous some of it can be.

What Cassar has brought new to the reader is the Light within each of us. Most of us have heard someone described as "shining bright as a beacon," or having an "inner light" that makes everything seem less dreary or drab, or maybe brightens up someone else's day. CeeCee's Light is brighter than anything the angels have ever seen. That very brightness makes her look oh so tasty to some dangerous folk.

This is her first foray into the New Adult genre and I would have to say it's every bit as compelling as her first series. I wasn't drawn in by anything but her name on the cover. Not the title, the cover art, not the blurb. Her world building is solid. The characters are believable. The ending knocks it out of the park. A truism given in the form of a riddle ultimately makes the book.

There were a few errors, not many, but they made for a little hiccup in reading. I was offered the book free for an honest review. However, knowing that Amazon has a habit of removing reviews that aren't verified purchases, I went ahead and bought the first two books in the series. I'm happy I did. Stealing Light kept me up a bit later than I should have been a couple times. Eh, who needs sleep anyway?

I loved this book about guardian angels. It was so thrilling to read about the dark and the light. I loved that she has the power to see them and interact. She also gets answers as to why her parents were killed in a car accident that she was saved from. Just a beautifully written book. I'd read a huge series of these.

Paranormal, thriller, guardian angels, demons, fallen, seers, supernaturals, family, emotions, awesome fight scenes, suspense, & so much more!
Julie Cassar never ceases to amaze me, & Stealing Light is definitely on my favorites list!
This story is different from anything I've read lately & seriously rocks!!! The perfect balance of suspense, angst, romance (in between saving the world & all), & hotness.
I am seriously in awe of the characters & worlds she creates. She doesn't miss a beat. All bases covered!!
Personally, I read a variety of genres (although my faves tend to be YA paranormal romances. Don't get me wrong, there are many adult books I have enjoyed as well, but it seems the new norm is all about the sex & not much else.) I adore romance, but I also want adventure, action, comedy, etc. And I LOVE thrillers & suspense like no other!
So, I always appreciate romance done tastefully!! A great romance must also have a great story with it, & Cassar never disappoints. I appreciate how she creates those steamy scenes without over sharing. Not to mention all of the other awesomeness she packs in. Her stories always succeed in transporting me to these far away worlds she magically weaves & I can't wait to see what is to come!!
BTW... There are only a few authors that I have found that can truly make me laugh hysterically through the trembles and/or tears. You know, that whole anguished snort cry with fluids flying both directions...yep THAT Happened!

I believe anyone who enjoyed her previous works will adore this one too. It's her style of writing that draws us in. Of course, the characters too, but they are addicting because of the unique spin she gives them.
For all of the Cassar newbies ~ I have no doubt she will win you over as well! Enjoy!!

Posting 4 stars, however it was more like 3.75 It was a well written story, so thats why I bumped up to 4
I loved parts, just not the whole book. I love the concept, but I don't know, its like it's missing something. It did not keep me interested = glued to the kindle. Its not one that I need to sit and finish the whole thing in a day (obliviously, cause it took me many days to read).
The characters were good; the main character, CeeCee was very good. However, during the story, I too felt her insecurities regarding Aaron and Cash. They were well warranted.
CeeCee's best friend Elliot, only plays a small part but she's a great secondary character.
I didn't realize that yes, this book takes place in the course of one week (7 days), yet it seems much longer. That is the good part, you don't feel rushed.
I understand the need to repeat the nightmare at the beginning of some chapters, and adding little bits to it but at times it annoyed me.

*I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review. And I try to be as honest as possible.

I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. That out of the way, this was a fun departure from the Ruby Blue series. Instead of fairy wings like within the Ruby Blue Series we get Angel wings. I can't decide which ones I like more.

Cassar has a unique story that's easy to read. The pace is brisk and the plot keeps you guessing.
