The Kalu aren’t a long lost nightmare anymore. They came from the black. They destroyed Rosho. They ravaged Heija. That was just the scouting force. Their coming back.
Power those reactors, charge those rail cannons and ready the fighters. The Free Fleet is going to war.
Michael Chatfield is a Canadian Army veteran and international bestselling author who writes the kind of books he always wanted to read—character-driven, gritty, tactical, and grounded in reality.
He doesn’t write one-dimensional killers wrapped in plot armor, charging toward an objective without thought. His stories are built for readers who want earned progression, tight, understandable logic, and realistic strategy. Every stat system has structure. Every decision is deliberate (except when there is Jaeger involved).
And the pacing? It's locked at two hundred percent. From alleyway brawls to starship armadas clashing over galactic sovereignty, from tactical dungeon assaults to city-states warring over a continent’s fate—Chatfield commits to every battle like it’s his last.
With millions of books and audiobooks sold, and tens of thousands of reviews his work spans LitRPG, military sci-fi, fantasy, and post-apocalyptic survival. He writes for readers who value systems that make sense, loyalty that lasts, and power that’s earned, not handed out.
Whether you're listening on a long drive, grinding through a shift, or up past midnight planning the next in-game raid—this is where you’ll find sagas to binge. Where strength is earned, logic rules, and camaraderie is forged in fire.

3 stars, really more of the same, sadly that is not really a good thing as I found it a little boring as nothing really new. Not sure at this point if I will continue but this is the 5th book and the series did keep my attention up to this point.
Alright plot but dear god this book could have done with an editor
So kind of far in and committed at this point, but I was disappointed with the over all result. Ship numbers and actions seemed to be all over the place, as far as I understood it in the previous book you were looking at maybe a 30 to 100k ships tops but 1.1-1.2m really?! It turned something that was supposed to be tense and dangerous into something farcical. I also bought the wisper-sinc version, so Kindle + audible natation. It made the use of repeated use of certian words in the same sentence or near after. I know your taking bloody ammunition you don't have to say. I loaded ammunition and I fired the ammunition from my gun. The ammunition hit the target. I'm para phrasing but you get the point. Pervious books in this series had moments of this but in this case it was prolific. As was the use of fuck in one particular speech/ tirade.
So yea could have done with an edit and more time and consideration put into force numbers etc. Still it's not terrible but certainly not the authors best work, as it seems he's struggled with the ever growing scale, escalation number of distinct characters etc. Though the eveyones a dick or saint complex wasn't that strong in this one, so I suppose that's a plus
Anyway enough of my moaning on. 2 out of 5 mainly for the prior story. Cheers
2 1/2 stars bad copyediting. Poor editing overall.
The stories are cute and characters interesting, making this a series worth reading. The huge number of wrong words, misspelled words, and repetitive phrases can be mind numbing. This is a story best listened to with text to speech, so that you may get past the painfully bad writing. Given the quality of the characters, plot, and level of description being the purview of the author I place blame squarely on the editor. Any Seventh Grade A student could have done better. Wrong verb tenses, wrong words, ... I'm getting repetitive in my vexation dictation to a very poorly trained Dragon software would have likely done a more coherent job. Get a better editor or Editor work harder!
I love this series! The characters are intriguing, the action is fast paced and it is hard to stop reading. This book has the most typos I've seen so far. I can usually skip the few I have seen in the previous books, but this one has enough to make me stop reading to verify that it is incorrect. Some of them appear to be auto correct issues like slave instead of salve. I am not a grammatical expert by any means, so when it interrupts my attention span I feel the need to share. I really do love this series and can't wait to start the next book!
There is nothing wrong with this book, it's just that there is so much going on that it proves difficult to keep track of what is going on with whom and where There are so many intricacies to the story, each fleet has its own battles and each battle lots of detail on how it is fought. Those details can turn out to be important to remember later in the book I find the books overall heavy going, I read one, go off and read something different and then come back for the next one, so the author must be doing something right
This book finally got back to dealing with the bad Earth relations crap and sorted out that storyline for the most part. I was really happy about that. I don't quite feel like this book should be five stars, but it deserves more than four. I think this book should have 4.5 stars. It was a great read.
How the fuck did EDWARDS get out... He was under arrest in Parmmal. Chatfield thinks we are stupid. I'm soooo God damn livid I can't continue with this series. It's fucking full of God damn plot holes bigger than Jupiter.
