Flipped through this book and marked a few recipes that looks good and suitable for my preference. What I love about this book is how simple the menus are. They need no more that 10 ingredients, many of them available on my local grocery store. Even if some of the ingredients are not cheap (we don't use sour cream on a daily basis and they're usually imported), I'm still intrigued to recreate it someday. I also love the author's message from her mother that you must be patient when cooking food especially if you want to make healthy and tasty ones to eat with your family. From my experience, taking shortcuts while preparing (or cooking) your food sure can make your life easier and the process faster, but the taste will be not as delicious as when you make them from scratch.
While I loved some of the recipes in here and am excited to make them in the very near future, I think this book would not work very well for anyone new to the kitchen. Lots of recipes were missing specific pan or baking dish sizes needed, time estimates, temperatures necessary for steps, etc. I’ve cooked with lots of these ingredients before so I can use context clues to figure most of these things out but I’m too intimidated to try some of the desserts since they don’t even say the size or shape of pan to bake things in.
I have always loved the diversity of Polish cooking and this book doesn't disappoint So many great recipes. Well set up so the recipes are easy to get to.
Good memories of childhood when my Dad cooked amazing authentic Polish foods. My Dad was part of the first of his siblings born in America not their homeland of Poland. Dad never used recipes. His Mother taught him.
