Six years ago, Neve Clark thought she’d found in Rhett Taylor the perfect doubles partner both on and off the badminton court, but their volatile relationship ended with a betrayal she couldn’t forgive. Since then, she’s dated plenty of guys in an attempt to recreate the passion she once felt with the man who broke her heart, but to no avail.
Anxious to put aside her growing despair that she’ll never find someone to replace him, she books herself on a business course in wintry Queenstown, New Zealand, with the aim of concentrating on her career as Marketing Manager for the Four Seasons lingerie company. It’s only when she turns up that she discovers the keynote speaker is her old flame.
After leaving New Zealand to pursue a career as a badminton player at international level, a series of unpredictable events leads Rhett back to the country and to the woman who haunts his dreams. A sizzling chemistry still exists between them, but even though he wants her back, Neve wants nothing to do with him.
Rhett’s not used to losing. Not everyone gets a second chance at both life and love, and this time he’s determined to win her heart…
USA Today bestselling author Serenity Woods writes feel-good romances full of friends, family, and falling in love. Most of her stories are set in Godzone, aka Aotearoa New Zealand, where she lives.
Overall I enjoyed this book. The characters were decent. I did find that they were a little shallow. Caring too much about looks. Thankfully it became more than that as the book went on. We got to see a little deeper side of them. I just hope the rest of the couples are enjoyable too.
I really loved this book. It has a different tone to it than the last several books by Serenity Woods, who is one of my favorite writers. This romance novel is wistful and bittersweet for most of the book, but of course there is a happy ending. Neve and Rhett had been college sweethearts in New Zealand, in a hot-and-heavy relationship for a year until their volcanic breakup. Rhett had deeply hurt Neve's feelings (FYI, this did NOT involve cheating), and they did not talk to each other for five years. Now, they find themselves at the same 4-day marketing seminar away from home in a city in wintry southern New Zealand. Neve is unhappy with her life for several reasons, and she decides to at least be friendly with Rhett again. After Rhett revealed something important that happened to him, Neve considers having a temporary fling with him. Rhett has missed her terribly and wants to get back together long term, but Neve can't believe that she could ever get over her hurt feelings from the breakup.
This book has really powerful themes of realizing what is important in life, moving past mistakes that people in your life have made, and how people can make themselves better. There is also a subplot where Neve has been on the outs with her father for something terrible that he said to her. Neve and Rhett were so real to me, and I could identify with both of them. The feelings between the two of them were so well described and realistic. The novel has third person alternating perspective between Neve and Rhett. I was captivated by this romance, and it made me feel many things and caused me to think about my own life and relationships. The author has a true gift for sensory description. I felt that I physically was at this fancy hotel, or sitting in the marketing seminar, or on the ski slopes in the book. Also, the scene at the end was so wonderful!
Serenity Woods really wrote something special and profound with this heartfelt, multi-faceted book. I hope that Ms. Woods gets all of the fame, success, and awards that she so justly deserves for the depth of her writing talent. I highly recommend this book to all fans of contemporary romance who like some steamy love scenes.
FYI, some of the love scenes were a little more sexually adventurous than in the last five books by Serenity Woods, but as always, each love scene has emotional connection between the two characters. To me, this book rated pretty high on the steamy scale.
I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author in return for an honest review. All opinions are my own, and I was not paid for my review.
Neve and Rhett used to play professional badminton together. They were a perfect pair, both on and off the badminton court. Until Rhett betrayed Neve and shattered her heart. Neve has a lingerie company, Four Seasons, together with her friends and she's responsible for the marketing. After five years without contact with Rhett, Neve runs into him at a business course in Queen's Town. He's the keynote speaker and in his speech he tells something shocking about himself that Neve knew nothing about. It's because of this news Neve decides to talk to him again.
Rhett still regrets that he lost Neve because of an incredibly selfish decision. He's a changed man and hopes he'll have a second chance with her. However, Neve doesn't want to let him in. Because of their chemistry she'd like to spend a few nights with him for old times sake, but that's it. Will Rhett be able to make things right or has he lost Neve forever by not thinking about the consequences of his actions when he was younger?
Bewitching Winter might have a cold setting, but the story itself is smoking hot. There are so many sparks between Rhett and Neve that it's impossible for them to stay away from each other. Their sex life used to be a very important part of their relationship. They talk and they make love and then they start over again. There are plenty of sex scenes in Bewitching Winter and they're all meaningful. Serenity Woods uses the attraction of her main characters to slowly uncover all the layers of their relationship and break down the walls Neve has put around her heart. It's an interesting way to describe the connection between the main characters and every scene is unique and original.
Bewitching Winter is a story about two people who deserve to be happy. Neve is a kind and passionate woman, but her stubbornness often makes her life harder and it makes people think she's cold instead of fiery. Rhett is pretty easygoing, but he's also impulsive and that cost him dearly. I kept hoping they would get over their issues as it's obvious that they are soul mates. I think that's a beautiful thing to experience and I love books about this topic. Serenity Woods writes about it in a raw and honest way that sometimes shocked me, but at the same time it also fascinated me. Her story is emotional on many different levels. I really like this series and highly recommend it to anyone who loves moving sexy stories.
I read this in the middle of the biggest book slump I've had in a while so that may have impacted my enjoyment, but this just didn't really work for me.
I liked both main characters for the most part. As with most SW books, Neve and Rhett were well developed and each had their own motivations and backstories that impacted their thoughts and actions. I also love a second chance between exes and was hoping it would be similar to one of my favourite SW books Between You, Me, and the Bedpost.
Unfortunately, I didn't love their romance as much as I thought I would. I wanted angst but Neve and Rhett got over their animosity very quickly and then the plot seemed to drag on. There was also too much inner monologue for my tastes.
I liked the steamy scenes at first but I was super uncomfortable with how Rhett chose to confront Neve near the end (he ties her to a bed and makes her listen to him, despite her screaming and crying to let her go). There were so many other ways that scene could have been done and honestly I kind of checked out of their romance and skimmed the book after that point because it was such a huge no for me.
I did enjoy the side plot to do with Neve and her argument with her Dad (though I wish more time was dedicated to it), and the general "life is short" theme, but overall this wasn't the best Serenity Woods book.
As always Serenity Woods writes with emotion and thought provoking ideals. This is a story of second chance romance. But she delves a little deeper than most here. She asks the questions of why they broke up in the first place. She explores how the characters have (and have not) grown to be the people they are today. She weaves the story with a good amount of steam and a balance of heart warming emotion. Every time I pick up a SW book I am always surprised at how well my heart melts. Beautiful, touching, well formed and well wrapped in the end.
A second chance, standalone, romance with some toe-curling moments!
Bewitching Winter is the third book in the Four Seasons series and incorporates the theme of a second chance romance, making it yet again a different romance storyline to the previous two books in the series but is just as enjoyable. As with the previous books, this can be read as a standalone and has a guaranteed HEA for the two main characters, Neve and Rhett.
Told from dual perspectives, Bewitching Winter tells the story of Neve and Rhett and how true love really never does die. Both characters were very likeable, relatable and strong. Rhett comes across as a sweet, kind and very charming person but also has dominating personality that Neve cannot resist, despite her stubborn persona. I liked Neve but at times I got a little frustrated with her swinging emotions; I understood why it was needed to show her warring emotions but certain times felt too much. Neve and Rhett’s previous relationship was, and still is, a tumultuous kind of relationship, a clear sign of the passion they have for each other. After going through a painful breakup five years previously, these two former lovers find themselves forced together and when serious life events that occurred while apart come to light, things are seen in different perspectives and shows the way of learning to live in the present and letting go of the hurt of the past. As a result, this leads to some erotic and real toe-curling love scenes over the few days in which the book is set; the time frame works given they have such a strong history, adding to the foundations of their relationship re-emerging in the present settings. There are some real heart wrenching moments, especially towards the end of the book, and you can’t help but hope these two characters will find their HEA.
Whenever you read a book by Serenity Woods you can guarantee it will be well written with a good thought out plot, a steady flow, well developed characters and vivid scene descriptions. There were a few surprising twists along the way and also some misunderstandings that lead to a climax you definitely don’t fully see occurring; Rhett’s torment when reaching breaking point was almost heart breaking and a tough part to read but that only encapsulates Serenity Woods’ ability to draw the reader in to these thoroughly engaging and realistic characters. The issues raised in the book were dealt with in a mature fashion of both being sensitive but also with light hearted humour in appropriate moments.
Overall, if you are looking for a sweet yet steamy second chance, standalone, romance between two people that are perfect for each other, with a guaranteed HEA, do not hesitate to give this book a read! I personally can’t wait for the final book in this series now and to hear Birdie’s story.
*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
I received a copy of this book for an honest review and all written is my own words and point of view.
I just finished reading this book and I totally related to the h, Neve. Her character struck home some similar traits of my own as she tries to be strong and protect herself from not only external sources but also her own inner self critic. As this is the third in the series we have already been introduced to the main characters but now we learn the whys and whats that caused their separation, we catch up a bit with the others, but not too much as this is Rhett's and Neve's time in the sun or snow as this locale indicates. But all the emotion and thrill and heat that is all Ms Woods. Neve, our h, really comes over as hard and uncompromising and truly you don't really like her much at first, well not me, then when we delve into the whys and see her expose her inner self I realized it's a coping mechanism, a shield for her soft underside and who better to break through than Rhett, her kryptonite, her biggest weakness. Rhett has been through so much in the time they were apart and he became a better man and did not succumb to the negative direction he could have gone. I truly enjoyed the rediscovery, the second chance at love that these two go through. Now don't get me wrong this story is a true Serenity Woods book.... boy o boy.... It will not disappoint as we also get some of the hottest and most creative love scenes with lava level heat... Not over the edge to erotica, which I am not too keen on, but KaBoom, Sizzle-Sizzle stuff... so yup... Phew!! So cooling fans and ice based drinks needed readers, I have warned you all. Not much more to say than grab it up and continue this totally enjoyable Four Seasons journey with anticipation for Birdie's story next..... Can't wait!
This is the third installment in Woods’ Four Seasons series about four women who join together to found a lingerie company in New Zealand. You don’t need to have read the previous two books, but I do recommend them.
This one involves Neve, the wintry woman. She was hurt years before by Rhett. They had been badminton partners on the badminton circuit (who knew there was such a thing?), but he’d gone off on his own and broken her heart. Now she’s unsure if she can trust any guy plus she’s broken with her father after he insulted her to her face.
She meets up with Rhett at a marketing conference. Of course, the sexual attraction is still there. It wouldn’t be a romance without that connection. But what makes this book rise above the standard tropes of a second-chance love story is how Rhett has grown since their time together. His father had died and he had received some life-changing news that made him rethink how he lives his life. Now he understands what is important and how necessary it is sometimes to just let things go.
There isn’t all that much plot in the book. Mostly, it’s about Rhett trying to convince Neve to forgive him and get on with her life. She needs to understand that people like Rhett and her father make mistakes but she can benefit by forgiving them. He does this while having some smoking hot sex with Neve. There is one episode that I bet readers have never encountered before in a romance novel.
I really enjoyed seeing the growth in the two characters even though it does take place over just a couple of days. Sometimes it is about the journey and not the time or action along the way.
I received a free ARC of this book to read in exchange for an honest review.
You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone .....and this was true for both Neve and Rhett after their furious break up argument. He buried himself and his anger in his sport and chosen direction and Neve's rage and hurt at what she saw as his betrayal, turned to icy fury and a determination to prove that she didn't need Rhett. Nearly 5 years has passed since their break up and Rhett has had a 'wake up call' life event that has changed thinking, whilst Neve has somehow lost her way and sense of value. This time around, when they meet at a conference, Neve doesn't turn her back on Rhett. Older and wiser, both are full of regret at losing the best love that each has experienced. The fire of their relationship has a new tenderness; each has softened and recognises how much they have lost and missed. I found this book totally absorbing. Neither Neve nor Rhett is perfect and their struggles, successes, faults and resolution make them so much more real. Serenity Woods draws her characters with rich, emotional colouring and this is a wonderful read. It's the third book of a series ( and my favourite so far) but is absolutely a stand alone book. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Second chances at a happily ever after don’t come often but when they do it might just be worth taking a chance on that special someone that was left behind.
Neve and Rhett had a special relationship five years previous to the beginning of this story and their breakup was anything but friendly. When they come together at a business conference Rhett has the desire to reestablish his friendship with Neve but neither really wants to have their hearts broken again. As the conference progresses interesting tidbits come out that impact both of them. They realize that though they are not the same there might still be embers that can be fanned and it might be worth it to do so.
Ms Woods has included a timely health topic with information that is vital to get out to the public. Not only is this a wonderful romance but it also provides ideas that made me think and want to add them to my own way of living. I loved the tidbits about New Zealand and thoroughly look forward to reading the fourth book in this delightful series.
Thank you to the author for the ARC of this book to read in exchange for my honest review.
Rhett and Neve's story is all about forgiveness and second chances. It was hard for me to write this review without having to add spoiler alerts.
Rhett broke Neve's heart due to a decision he made without including her in the process. It required him to leave New Zealand. Neve carried the pain with her and was unable to release it in order to move forward. Rhett realized that Neve was the one he let get away.
The really interesting part of this book for me was reading about how Neve struggled with her inability to let go of the pain, her struggle with not being able to forgive, and her stubbornness. Never fear, this is NOT a book full of angst.
The chemistry between Rhett and Neve is intense. Rhett likes to dominate in the bedroom. There are several steamy, sexy scenes. Their dialogue is slightly sarcastic and humorous. And then, there are the moments of reflection, introspection, and acceptance that will have you taking a deeper look at your own life.
I definitely would recommend this book.
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review, the opinions expressed are entirely my own. This is a really lovely story, Serenity gets better and better with every book she writes. This s the story of Neve and Rhett. They had lived together six years prior to this story beginning, Rhett had made a selfish decision which broke them up, with much anger on both sides. Neve has become a very brittle person, Rhett has had life-changing events occur in his life, which have made him a much more accepting and responsible person. This book is all about second chances, learning to say sorry and move forward, and learning to accept that everyone makes mistakes. It is an extremely emotional book, and the emotions are well written. The whole story is well thought out and very moving. It can be read as a stand alone, but reading the other two books does help to round out the story, and add background. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It is really worth reading
Get the fire extinguisher ready for this story, HOT, HOT, HOT! Neve and Rhett get a chance to rekindle their relationship and put the past behind them. You won’t want to put this story down.
A second chance standalone romance filled with toe-curling moments!
Bewitching Winter is the third instalment in the Four Seasons series. It features the theme of second-chance romance and offers a fresh storyline distinct from the first two books. Like its predecessors, it can be enjoyed as a standalone, with a guaranteed happily-ever-after for the main characters, Neve and Rhett.
Told from dual perspectives, Bewitching Winter explores how true love never truly dies through the lens of Neve and Rhett. Both characters are likeable, relatable, and strong. Despite her stubborn nature, Rhett is portrayed as sweet, kind, and charming, yet he possesses a dominant personality that Neve finds irresistible.
Neve and Rhett’s past relationship was tumultuous, highlighting the deep passion they share. After a painful breakup five years earlier, they are thrust back together. As significant events from their time apart come to light, they gain new perspectives, learning to live in the present and release the pain of the past. This leads to some erotic and truly toe-curling love scenes during the few days in which the book is set. The brief time frame works well, considering their strong history, which adds depth to the rekindling of their relationship. There are also some genuinely heart-wrenching moments, especially toward the end, leaving readers rooting for Neve and Rhett to find their happily ever after.
All of Serenity's books are beautifully written, with a lot of detail.
I have a love/hate relationship with second chance romances. So my 3 stars is due more to my attitude and less to the quality of the writing.
This was a sweet romance and the MCs were so perfect for each other. But their stubbornness and pride and game playing got on my nerves. It annoyed me that Rhett just moved on even though he knew he'd played a major part in their break up.
So, great love scenes, but stubborn MCs made this a 3 star book in my mind.
I was excited to read this book. However, I have to say I found myself struggling to finish it. I did push myself to get to the end, yet it didn't live up to my expectations, which is a shame.
Neve and Rhett's story just dragged for me. I didn't feel a spark in their relationship and it lost me more as the book went. I wanted to like them, and I'm a big fan of the second chance romance trope, but this book was lacking something for me. It felt there was more detail about the conference and back story than in the moment getting back together.
Overall I wanted to like this, but I just couldn't get into it.
A second chance romance and an enemies to lovers as well. Two of my favorite genres. Rhett and Neve were explosive. Love wrapped in little grenades until it all blew up in their faces. Years have gone by and Neve still holds the anger closely wrapped around her heart. A chance meeting at a co French could turn it all around. Will they be able to let go, forgive the past hurts and realize they have both grown and changed or will they let themselves enjoy a fling and the sparkle and future fizzle out? Fantastic!
What a steamy, but heavy book. This dealt with some real life topics including double standards. I didn't love Neve, but didn't hate her. She kinda just annoyed me with being so stubborn and refusing to try to change. The way her character "saw the light" was really dumb as well. The little bit of supporting characters was nice. I'd be interested to read the series now. The sex was hot, hot, and hot some more. Rhett took me a bit to like, but it was nice to see the growth he went through to change.
Third in the Four Seasons series. Young love gone wrong. Can time and distance in perspective and maturity make it right? Is a second chance worth it or even possible? Double tragedy can make you stop and re-evaluate your life; give you hope that past issues can be resolved, especially since first love is rarely forgotten. A chance meeting is all that is necessary to start the ball rolling along the road to love.
I'm not sure why - maybe I didn't connect so well to Rhett and Neve? I don't know.
The writing, however, was as good as always, and I'm already reading about Bridget and Aaron, so it didn't deter me whatsoever. It's still a good book - just not in the wow section with the first two.
Each of these books are unique. Dealing with heartbreak and how to move forward. Always a lesson to be learned. Not sure I always agree and sometimes the situation seems wrong, but to each there own.
Can this couple get past their history? Never is not happy with her life. She is very stubborn and does not let go of hurts. Her old boyfriend tries to woo her back. She agrees to sex but, will she let go of the past?
This was a very well written book with a great storyline. I had a hard time putting it down.It shows their is always room for a second chance of you are willing to admit to mistakes & forgive.
Not enough story line. Take out all the sexual pages and you have a short shot story. I will never read another book by this author . In truth I passed over page after page without reading all the sexual bouts. Thumbs down.
Rhett and Neve’s story was extremely romantic and I loved it so much! It was so perfect for the both of them! I loved all the parts that conspired to bring them together too!! It was TOO good!!!
