I've not read anything by this author previously but I'm keen to see what journey she takes me on with "The Old Heart of Mine."

THIS OLD HEART OF MINE

"Do you know why I named you Ava?” my mom asks.
Because Ava means life.
It means living.
I wanted you to live forever.

Ava was born with a severe case of congenital heart disease and was placed on a transplant list the very first moment she took a gasp of breath.

I'm dying before I even had the chance to live.

Just days laying on her death bed all her prayers were answered when a new heart was made available to her.

They found you a heart, it's a positive blood match, we're hopeful it's a good match for you.

NOW Healthy Ava begins a journey of self discovery with her best friend Finn by her side, It wasn't long before he became my person and I became the same for him these two have such a beautiful, unique bond/friendship, they basically grew up in the hospital, they met as dying children at the age of twelve, an unbreakable bond.
They called themselves the "Cotton Wool Kids" because they were so wrapped up in the stuff.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

There's so many layers to this book, Ava has been given a second chance at life so she's living her second life to the fullest. Trying new things she'd never had the chance to before, flatting with her best friend, tasting new foods, a new job, a new love interest.

Meeting the dark mysterious brooding poet Gabriel Cruz had her heart- a - flutter, she nic named him "Grumpelstiltskin" due to his mood swings. A poet who has lost his words.

His wild, savage beauty stirs my blood.
With Gabriel, I am not
afraid of the dark.
I'm drawn to it.
And if I'm not careful, I have a feeling
I could drown in it.

What makes this book even more unique throughout is the added bonus of poems, they are so beautifully written.

To the outside world
we're mismatched in a lot of way.
They may choose to see nationality,
or heritage, or age
But they don't see what we see in each other.
Acceptance..Encouragement..Light..
Our eyes are open, while their minds are closed.
I know which I prefer.

This book took me on such an incredible journey, of discovery, it was like I was seeing everything/experiencing everything for the first time through Ava's eyes.
I connected on such a strong level with each and everyone of these characters, 'The Old Heart of Mine" captured my heart as soon as I started reading this until that very last page was inhaled, beautifully written..

Ah I really did enjoy this one, a sweet second chance at love and life romance. Both characters are really likeable and didn't annoy me at all, yes .... even with a separation which is a total pet peeve.

That said, I've knocked off a star because the sex scenes were fade to black, and I'm not a fan of authors hinting at a sex scene. If it's going to be included then SHOW me, don't leave it up to the readers imagination. I also would have liked Gabriel's POV sooner than clamming for it until the 70% mark. These are little niggles which didn't really spoil the read, I just wanted more, you know?

This story broke my heart in so many ways. The interesting part is the Author gives so much information regarding organ donors. This story gives you the emotions an individual goes through and their family. I cried and cried my ass off during some chapters. I had lots of Awww! Moments to. This is a real smooth read including a twist towards the ending. I loved the banter between the characters.

Just wow, a beautiful book, through and through, cover to cover, inside and out. When I read the blurb, before this book came out, I have to admit, I was nervous. So scared that this book would wreck me, and break me. But AJ Compton is such an amazing writer I decided to bite the bullet and put my heart in her hands with the the trust that she wouldn't completely smash it to smithereens. :)

I was so afraid that this book would be a story of love and loss. But it was SO MUCH MORE then that. It was a coming of age story of second chances. Not second chance love, but a second chance at LIFE. There are so many inspiring love stories going on in this book, the love between Ava and her best friend Finn is truly heartwarming. Ava falling in love for the first time was just.. the SWEETEST thing. But what touched me the most, was the story of Ava falling head over heels in love with LIFE! It was such a beautiful journey and I'm so thankful I was able to take part in it with her.

Throughout this book, there is the exceptional bonus of being able to read some of the most beautiful poems I've ever read. I'm not an avid poetry reader, have never read a full book of poetry, however the poems in This Old Heart of Mine... they BLEW ME AWAY! They left me breathless and teary eyed. They were just absolutely beautiful!

In one part of This Old Heart of Mine a sweet little girl asks Gabriel what a poet is. Gabriel replies, "Its someone who tells stories like an author, only the stories come from your heart, instead of your head." The little girl tells him, "I wanna be a poet, too." and Gabriel says "You can still be an author and be a poet. Just remember to write your stories from the heart." I LOVED THIS. And AJ Compton, is most definitely an author and a poet. She writes with her whole heart all the way down to her soul. She left it all on the page in this book and its absolutely beautiful! It was an honor to read it, and I hope you all treat yourself to this breathtaking story!

"I always knew this heart belonged to someone else. I just didn't realize how much."

I cried my eyes out since the very first chapter, and even though my head was telling me not to read it, my heart had other idea, so I man up and read it.

The emotions the author managed to pour into her words were simply beautiful. But not happy with all the feelings she brought out in me, she gave me poetry. I'm not a poetry reader, but AJ Compton definitely knew what she was doing because with her poems she add a great deal of emotion to the story.

Be part of Ava Malone's journey of self-discovery, it's something that will live in my heart forever. The circumstances and events the characters have to deal with were not easy at all. Ava & Gabriel got a second chance to live, literally and figuratively. But together they overcame the forces against them, getting the HEA they deserved.

A total rollercoaster, tissues in hand, please, because your emotions will be all over the place, but every tear, every gasp, will be worth it, because at the end, no one will be able to erase the smile on your face.

This Old Heart of Mine, is utterly beautiful, inspiring, and it's definitely the kind of book that makes you think about life, about the way you have lived it, the wrongs and rights you have done. And in my case, it made consider things I'd never thought about.

This is a book you just pick up and read. Forget about reviews. Just read it. Nothing than experience all the feelings like reading it for yourself.

Gabriel & Ava will always belong to this little black heart of mine.

Wow...

I'm speechless...

One of the things you got AJ, is that you make me ugly cry...

This book is and will be one of those books that I'll never forget and that will be in my heart forever .

Today I sleep with tears but aren't tears of sadness. I'm so overwhelmed with feelings.
It was a beautiful story.

“You’re are my heart”

“they say the truth hurts, but they don’t tell you how much.”

FRASES MEMORABLES:

"No one ever truly dies, whether they been loved by a poet or not. Even when ours hearts stop beating, the love they once held survives."

“Ava,
My somber heart seeks you always.”

"We find our bliss together in the same way we’ll find our sadness and our pain."

“I lose my thoughts. I lose my words. I lose my inhibitions.”

“Love is so short, forgetting is so long.”

“We communicate with our bodies until we’re both weightless.”

Quizás esta no sea la mejor reseña, pero si te puedo decir algo, este sí es el mejor libro.

What can I say about this book? I'm not sure my words can truly represent how beautiful this story is. Not only does poetry appear throughout its pages, but the actual story between two damaged characters is pure poetry. AJ's writing feels like reading lyrics written to a lover in secret. They are gorgeous and poignant, and they make you feel with such powerful emotion, you won't be able to get enough. Gabriel and Ava grow together and the best part is they bring the reader through a journey of growth right along with them. Your heart will have a new little space for them that no one else can fill. Make sure you take a chance on this author, because you certainly won't regret it. She writes stories that challenge the norm of most romance books and satiate a thirst you may not know you had.

There are books that entertain us; some provide us with an armchair travel, and others? They do both. And sometimes, they even change how we see our lives.

I'm still trying to figure out how I can review AJ Compton's This Old Heart Of Mine. It's really tough to review something so beautiful, your vocabulary has suddenly gone short.

This Old Heart Of Mine is the story of heart transplant survivor Ava Malone. All her life, she was protected by her mom because of her heart condition. Now given a second chance to live, she's decided that she'd do everything she's never done before and even more.

When I started reading the book, I didn't know what journey I have signed up for. I didn't read the blurb, so I was just like, "Surprise me!" And that little traitor of a book really caught me off guard.

My emotions have gone mad while I was reading this. It made me cry and laugh then I cry again. I love all the books that I read, but I rarely find something that occupies a space in my heart. Something that really etches its story to my core and make me remember it forever. Ms. Compton's work is one of those.

She has an amazing way with words. A single sentence brings a tidal wave of emotions to the reader. The characters felt so alive. And Ava? She's like a walking ray of sunshine that can bring joy to every reader. Gabriel is like a puzzle you want to figure out. He's man of a few words, but when he speaks, he brings heat to the right places. Every single character of this book compliments each other, and made the story even more perfect.

It's a read that just steals you from reality, from start to end. It inspires you and makes you realize that you're made to try everything in this world. That's what makes you alive.

To AJ Compton, I'm not even sure if these words are enough to review this beautiful story you made. Thank you for sharing this. The inspiration and love in it are worth more than just five stars.

This one has a used and predictable plot. But it was really nice to read. If I were in MC's shoes I'll totally give the same response to that predictable twist:))) this book is about organ donation. Ava has a heart condition from the begining of her life-from her first breath. Her father left them when he learns her condition(what a cowrd ha!!!) ava survives 22 years and when the time comes for her to say goodbye to earth and her loved ones (that chapter was heart shuttering/lots of tears, dont need to mention I guess) they found a matching heart. Then comes her second chance for life. Ava lived nearly entire of her life in hospitals. Her mom was over protective. She never ate a slice of pizza in her life :)))) u guess the rest:))) now she has a chance to live and be a child for once.
Her best friend finn is also an organ donation surviver so they survived together. Their friendship was adorable. In some parts I thought the story needed more Fİnn. Or maybe there'll be a next book about Finn.
And we have Gabriel... A sexy latin poet:))) ı never guessed That ı could love a male MC who is poet and affect me that much!!!
I'm really not a poetry person. I hate poems:)) but in this book I read all of them and also loved them.
I hıghly reccomend this book. :)))

This Old Heart of Mine is one of the most gut wrenching, heart breaking, magical stories I have read. There are very few stories lately that have affected me the way this one did. I’m trying to find a way to write this review without, 1) giving to much away and 2) breaking down into a million tiny pieces all over again. There really aren't enough stars for how much I LOVED this book!

Ava have never known what it’s like to live life as a healthy child. She has spent the majority of her life in a hospital. This is where she meets her best friend Finn. Ava and Finn have an unbreakable bond and spirit that make them the best of friends. But the end is closer than it appears of Ava, until it isn’t.
Ava meets Gabriel while running and quite literally fell into him. Gabriel is a poet who has writer’s block. A silent friendship while running every morning is formed until Gabriel steps out of his comfort zone and asks Ava out for coffee. Things progress between Gabriel and Ava until a life altering secret is revealed.

So…A.J. Compton, this book was one of the best I have read, maybe ever. I was deeply touched by this book. Once I started it, I couldn’t put it down. I don’t think I’ve ugly cried over a book EVER. This story reached in and touched my soul in ways I can’t express in words. I did not want this story to end. As a nurse, I felt for all the characters. Their thoughts, feelings, and actions are all things I’ve witnessed firsthand, yet you put it into words that evoked images of what they were going through. I honestly felt every emotion as the characters were going through them and could visualize it all playing out. I love this story. Thank you for writing such an amazing story.

"I always knew this heart belonged to someone else, I just never knew how much"

Born with a heart defect, Ava has spent her entire life in and out of hospital waiting on a heart transplant, that just doesn't seem to arrive. Now hours from death, the heart she has been desperately waiting for finally arrives.

Now Happy and Healthy Ava begins a journey with her best friend by her side of self discovery and living the life she only ever dreamed of. But what happens when she finds out more about the woman who lost her life to give her, her heart. Will Ava be able to accept that the heart she owns is now hers or that it still belongs to someone else?

When Ava meets Gabriel while out for a morning run, she feels an attraction to him but Gabriel has secrets of his own but she finds falling for him is coming so easy to her, Will her heart be able to take Gabriel's secrets once they are out?

A Story that would bring a tear to glass eye. It's a story of self discovery, friendship, heartbreak, courage and a lot of Firsts. Ava discovers life for the first time and falling in love for the first time. A gut wrenching must read that would make any heart skip a beat.

Ok so this book was amazing. AJ you did it, you made me cry a few times. And people who know me, know I'm a rock and books don't get to me like that. No I didn't ugly cry, I don't ugly cry, I just shed a few tears. But this story was beautiful, and now you have me wanting a Spanish poet which Im not even into. You made a sensitive man sexy. How? I don't know. But keep it up. Can't wait to read more from you. I don't want to give any details away, just know this book will break your heart, piece it back together just to break it all over again and then patch you right back up. AJ your brilliant.

That is EXQUISITE! I'm at a loss for words and still have tears in my eyes. Oh my goodness, so many feels and tears—bucketloads of them. So much loss and grief and heartache. But with all that comes hope and light and second chances, too. This book is just as uplifting as it is excruciating. The tale of Ava Malone and Gabriel Cruz had my heart spasming and squeezing the whole time. And I've been choked up since I hit the second half of the book. Yet, I inhaled all of it.

A.J. Compton's words are utterly earth-shattering, yet so refreshing and soothing. They were magically intertwined to one another that there's not a chance you won't be touched and shaken up by how powerful they are. To say I was moved by this story is a huge understatement.

“I lost you like I loved you, love;
Deeply, endlessly, irrevocably,
And in stages.”

And then there's Gabriel's poems—God, they'll just make your heart soar and take you to heaven. There's something so soulful about these poems that is so addicting that I couldn't help but fall in love with them. I soaked them up word for word. They were literally a balm to my aching heart and food for my soul.

“I always knew this heart belonged to someone else,” I say, almost to myself. “I just didn’t realize how much. If I could tear it out of my chest right now and give it to you, I would.”

Ava Malone was given a second chance in life when she got a heart transplant. She's so innocent, yet so strong and full of life given her condition. She only became more vibrant when she got that second chance. And Ava was determined to make the most out of it. She wanted to know what it meant to be free and finally live. And eventually, even fall in love with the right man.

“I didn’t realize that you could find so much joy and laughter among so much pain.”

Gabriel Cruz is so moody, broody and mysterious. He has so much going on inside of him. It seems so perfect for him, being the poet and artist that he is. Though when you realize his reason for living in darkness, you'll break down and crumble too. For being such a huge romantic, the pain that Gabriel went through is indeed enough to make a man weep and lose any light and life he ever had in him.

But then these two sweet, lost souls find each other—one just starting to see the true meaning of life and who she truly is, and the other trying to find the peace and light that was swept off from under his feet. The chemistry and passion between them is so scintillating and intense. Regardless of the circumstances and curveballs life has thrown their way, they were inevitable.

If you're hungry for a new author who has words so encompassing they will seep through your bones and all the cracks in your armor, A.J. Compton is your girl and This Old Heart of Mine is your book for it. It's undeniably relatable and the story in itself is enough to give you hope and optimism and even a new perspective in life in the midst of all the bumps on the road you come across. I highly recommend this one!

It’s really hard for me to write this review without getting personal or emotional. Five years ago, I was faced with the impossible task of deciding when to switch my father’s life support machine off. With my parents divorced and no longer speaking, the responsibility fell on the oldest daughter – me. And with that responsibility came the next question enough, do we donate his organs? Amongst all the different opinions and all the grieving family, I was glad that my dad and I had had this conversation. That he had specifically said, if the time ever came and his organs were viable “give them away.” And I did...

So with that background, I need to say thank you to AJ Compton. Thank you for magnificently portraying the beauty of life and the importance of giving. Thank you for capturing both the difficulty and grace in life after death. Thank you for bringing to life characters that understand the true magnitude of heartache and the true blessing of love.

This Old Heart of Mine is full of emotion; a journey that needs to be felt to be understood. Through the smiles and the tears, each chapter gives readers an all access pass to the unraveling of the new Ava Maloney. Delving into the matters of the heart, we are blessed with poignant words and exquisite poetry, showing Ava embarking on her new life. Experiencing things for the first time and choosing when it will be her last, Ava Maloney’s happiness becomes your own.

This Old Heart Of Mine may be Ava’s story but, the complexity and sincerity of all other characters, highlights the importance of their presence for the completion of this story. Told with such precision and empathy, AJ Compton can confidently add another moving masterpiece to her collection of writing. In a perfect combination of life and love, Compton’s writing style ensures that, This Old Heart of Mine will be remembered.

Open your mind, open your heart and open your soul; you’re going to want to feel this one.

This was my second book in a row that pulled at my heart strings…. and made me shed some tears!

Ava has led a sheltered life being in hospitals almost her entire life with heart problems. She has always been a vibrant sole but becomes more so when she finally gets to experience all the things she missed that we take for granted- running if we want to, having pizza, eating your favorite ice cream.

Then she meets Gabriel and finally gets to experience what love feels like. And then her heart hurts for a very different reason.

I enjoyed this story even though parts were predictable. Ava’s friend Finn was such an integral part of her life; it would be great to see his story. I loved the small glimpses of poetry.

There are the kind of books that entertain and then there are the kind that touch your heart and soul. And if you're really lucky you'll read a book that does both.
"This Old Heart of Mine" by A.J. Compton is the kind of book that manages both. It is a book that imprints itself on your very being. One that reaches into the darkest corners of your soul and shines brightly with its beauty.
A.J. Compton writes touching and unique stories, avoiding any tropes or predictability. And she creates characters who seem real - flaws and all. Characters, who don't fit the norm.
Just like Ava and Gabriel.

Ava has gotten a second chance at life thanks to a heart transplant. And she's hell-bent on making the most of it - living the life she dreamed of and experiencing everything her sickness has denied her.
Her view on things, her appreciation for life with all the good and bad is infectious and inspiring. What most of us take for granted is a priceless gift to her. One she doesn't waste. The way Compton wrote Ava's thoughts and attitude gave me a lot of food for thought.
Ava's strength is remarkable, but so is her vulnerability. She doesn't deny herself to feel, to be scared, to love. But she also doesn't allow herself to drown in her emotions. I couldn't help but admire her and I loved her character instantly. She's the type of girl I'd love to be friend with and I wish I could adopt even a smidge of her attitude and outlook on life.
Because no matter what she has to face, she does it with poise, strength and love.

Which comes in handy when dealing with Gabriel. Elusive, broody, moody, beautiful Gabriel. He's a tough nut to crack btu from the start it's clear there is a beautiful soul underneath all that gruffness. A soul I immediately felt connected too, felt his pain but also his strength and hunger for life.
It takes a lot of time and patience on Ava's side to dismantle the walls he has build around him.
But with her help he starts to come back to life, to show a side of himself that made me swoon even more than when he was just a broody jerk.
He's the kind of guy who isn't only hot, but he's smart, emotional, strong, sweet and damn, does he know how to melt a girl's heart. At least mine melted within seconds like ice in the sunshine.

The relationship between Ava and Gabriel develops slowly and I do love a slow burn like that. I also love a heroine who still uses her brain despite her infatuation. Ava is just that kind of girl.
She calls him out on the things he does wrong and stands up for herself, putting him in his place without being a b***h about it.
Theirs is a true romance and it gave me so many feels.

The passion, the sexual tension, the respect and care between them made my heart feel all fuzzy and warm. Just so the drama that their story holds can punch me in the gut and make me gasp for air. I was holding my breath, begging and praying that they find a way out of the mess they ended up in.
I love when I get this invested in a story. That means it's well-written, captivating and nothing short of perfect.

Oh, and I have to mention the side characters. Love them. Hard. Especially Finn, who I hope will get his own book. And if he does, I'm calling dibs on him.

"This Old Heart of Mine" has proven that A.J. Compton is an author to watch out for.

This Old Heart of Mine by A.J. Compton is a stellar book full of emotion pouring off every page . I had not read anything previously by this author , but this book changed that for me . I will be recommending this author and this book to everyone !

It is a coming of age and self discovery book packed full of beautifully written characters . This is a 'must read' book of 2016 ! I hope to see this one made into a movie . Yeah , it is that good ! The sign of a brilliant writer , to me , is if they can make me feel every thing like the characters . A.J. Compton not only accomplishes this , she hits it out of the park ! I found myself turning page after page without being able to set it down . I may have missed a few meals and family outings for this book .

Ava is a young woman that has been on the heart transplant list since she took her first breath as she suffered from congenital heart disease . She never truly had a chance at a normal childhood . Normal for her meant being constantly in and out of the hospital .

It's during one of these stays that she meets her best friend Finn . They share such a unique friendship and bond like no other . He is always there for her as she is for him .

As Ava lay days away from death , her prayers are answered . She receives a new heart . She is given a second chance at life !

We are then taken on a journey of self discovery as Ava begins to really live life for the first time ever . Her best friend Finn is by her side as she starts to experience all life has to offer . She experiences new foods , having a job , first love , absolutely everything . And it is beautiful !

Ava meets and falls in love with a poet named Gabriel . This book has such beautiful poetry throughout . It is flawlessly incorporated into the book in a way I have not seen before .

Ava also finds out more about the person whose heart she now has . It is beautifully tragic as you know one person had to pass in order for Ava to receive her new heart and live the life she has only dreamt about .

This book is written on so many different levels , it is hard to express in a review how fabulous it is . It's like when you discover a delicious new food and different flavors keep hitting your tongue and you can't get enough . That is how this book is for me . I keep experiencing different levels of emotions .

This Old Heart of Mine has really had me reflecting about my own life and love . They are so precious and something most of us take for granted everyday . I am so glad to have received this book to review . It's not often a book hits me this hard . I can't wait to read more by this author ! She is definitely one to watch ! Book hangover status : comatose .

Wow this was a such a powerful story in my opinion!! Make sure you have some tissues on hand before you dive into This Old Heart Of Mine!!

This book started off with such emotion I could barely see the words on the page I was sobbing so hard. My heart broke and was put back together again all in the space of 3 chapters!

The characters made me fall in love with each and every one of them, they were all so likeable that you couldn't help but form a bond with them and feel like you were taking part in their journey through life.

Ava had such a great perspective on life, she tried to live enough for everyone and see the good everywhere. I loved going on Ava's adventure to find herself and watching her turn into the person she was destined to become.

Gabriel was a little hard to warm to in the very beginning but it didn't take long for him to win me over. He had been through so much already and I hated the things he had to deal with. I would have loved to have got more of Gabriel’s point of view during the book, I really wanted to see into his head and find out what he was feeling.

I loved Finn and Gia, their banter and sense of humour was a great aspect of the story that brought some lightness to it when it seemed the darkness was going to swallow you. I hope we get a story for Finn!!

I've read before than an author's main goal is to evoke feelings in people when they are reading their stories, AJ did more than that for me. Her words consumed me and kept me in their clutches right until the very last one. They worked their way into my heart, broke it into a million pieces and then slowly started rebuilding it again. The emotion poured through the pages of this book and seeped into me.

This book shows us that miracles happen but also how cruel life can actually be, it reminds us to live in the moment and to the fullest as we never know when our time is up!

AJ Compton’s This Old Heart of Mine is one of those books that gobbles your heart and soul right up when you open it’s pages. Immediately you are connected to Ava Malone, a young woman on the verge of dying in desperate need of a heart transplant. Your emotions are high, tears are flowing and just when Ava is about to take her last breath she gets the opportunity to live twice. She does just that when she meets Gabriel Cruz, a dark and broody poet, but the unthinkable happens and for the first time Ava isn’t sure if she controls her heart or if her heart controls her.

Compton’s story is definitely one of those that you sit down intending to read only a chapter or two but end up reading the entire story. In This Old Heart of Mine, Compton gives you the love alongside the loss. She connects you emotionally to her characters and reels you in with their roller coaster of emotions. But it’s not all highs and lows, Compton also manages to lighten this emotionally charged story with humor. Her characters, though they are weighed down with life or lack thereof, they have a sense of humor that I found completely endearing. Finley and Gia’s take on life breathed a refreshing light hearted breath to this story. I found them along along with Ava and Gabriel completely captivating.

This book was exceptional. It was one that stayed with me as I continued my day allowing me to remember and savor the journey that Ava and Gabriel had taken. This Old Heart of Mine is a book that you must pick up and read for yourself and enjoy the ride of emotions, the laughter, and the story Compton has to tell.

The best book hangover I've received yet! I'm still an emotional mess over this book. Like I can't even give this in words how I feel and convey how much this book meant to me. But here goes a shot of me trying to. You know when you come across a book and you just want to savor it, breathe it in, take your time and slow down your reading so that book never ends, where you wish you were an author where you could convey exactly those emotions that race through your blood stream whilst your reading that book, this book is that book, a book where I don't look at the time and think one more chapter and I'll go and do this or that, this book is like a fine wine is to be enjoyed, it literally swoops in and just pins you to the spot, sip by sip in no hurry to finish it, page by page reading at snails pace so I don't reach the end of the page and have to say goodbye to these characters, this book, this author has ruined me, she embodies everything I love about reading, the in your face about life and all its very real heartache and making you rethink your own life, romance that is so soul-wrenching and leaves you unstable to the up tenth degree and then gives you such a peacefulness you feel as if your heart has been consumed by butterflies (like the exploding kind if there were such a breed lol), all those boxes are check off my list for me and more! It seriously has now become my absolute favorite book of all time!! This book is my drug, and I'll keep coming back to it. AJ don't ever stop writing!

I've started this review and had to delete it at least ten times. I've a million things I want to say yet I can't think of a word to start with.

AJ Compton manages to rip my heart out with her words. yet at the same time I love it all.

She takes the subject of death and weaves a stunning story with it.

Ava is hours from Death. I can't describe my feelings adequately here. despite knowing the plot of the book I was still petrified at times. The twisted feeling of dread her words leave you with are incredible.

Ava is a beautiful soul. despite all her young life has thrown at her, she is full of joy. Her determination to really live after her transplant left me grinning.

Gabriel is wonderfully dark and brooding. a poet whose words have dried up. Ava brings a part of him back to life.

to say I ached for these characters wouldn't do my feelings justice. I cried for them. I cheered them on. I wanted to shake them. my heart was in my throat for them.

AJ has a way with words that strike me somewhere deep. they leave a mark on me. her words ring in my mind for a long time after I've put the book down.

AJ Compton writes about the fragility of life and love in a way that resonates so deeply. I defy anyone not to be moved beyond tears by this book.

an utterly beautiful and poetic tale that I've not been able to stop thinking of weeks after reading.

5 stars seem paltry compared to how highly I want to rate this.

"Not all kinds of love can have a label placed on them because the words haven't been invented yet."

The word hasn't been invented for my love of A.J.'s books. Her words flow together beautifully and make me think...about everything. Ava's heart. It gave her life, but to save Ava's life, another had to lose theirs. This heart that saved her also has the potential to shatter her. I was not just reading about a heart, but beyond that I was reading about living life and enjoying every moment and living not just once, but twice.
Then there is Gabriel. Each poem jumped off the page and gave me all the feels, all the emotion he went through finding love, losing love and almost losing himself were gorgeous. We all dream of a man to mesh words together about us.
"One drop of you is far too much, darling,
But it will never be enough to sustain me.
I thirst for your rain,
I hunger,
I burn,
I die,
I live,
For just one drop."

See what I mean? It was not just the poetic words, but the characters and story itself were engaging. The pages flew by and I fell in love harder with each chapter and next thing I knew I was head over heels into a fabulous epilogue. Great read.

"To feel deeply is to feel everything. You don't get to choose which emotions stop at your skin and which make it all the way to your bones."

Not many people believe in fate, but I do. I know that we are destined to meet who our soul connects with. In the case of this love story, it's who our hearts connect with.

From swiping the first 5 pages I was crying. The very first chapter had tears running down my face. I was sobbing, but couldn't stop reading for the simple fact that AJ Compton had me hooked by the words and pure emotion. She grabbed my heart and pulled it telling me to come on a ride I would never truly recover from.

Just like Ava Malone, I know what it feels like to have a broken heart. Going on her journey of self-discovery with her was something I neve thought I would relive, but I did and made it through in one piece.

To feel what it's like to have a broken heart, get a second chance at life and fall in love all in one read. This book is a rollercoaster you won't want to get off of.

AJ Compton also gives us a sneak peak at her beautiful poetry. I must say these poems add a great deal of emotion to the story. You have to read it for yourself to get all the feels they way this old heart of mine did.

4.5 STARS!

This book was such a rollercoaster ride of emotions, one that I absolutely enjoyed from beginning to end.

The beginning of this book had me close to crying, so emotional! I wanted to jump into the book and just hold Ava's hand. Once things get better, Ava's passion to live was admirable. It was so cute, and funny, seeing her finally able to live life, trying all these new things and taking risks.

Meeting Gabriel was rather comical to me in some ways. He was always brooding and quiet, but that didn't stop Ava. She was determined to make him talk more. Finding out he was an Argentinian poet made me swoon like no other. His poem? LORD! I still go back to reread them.

Ava and Gabriel were rather sweet and adorable. I loved them, but I knew things would get complicated. I just didn't think it would be THAT complicated. And once again I went back to being emotional when all of that popped up.

This whole book had me flipping the page so quick wanting to see how things turn out. I laughed, swooned, cried maybe just a tiny little bit, and smiled. AJ Compton has a way of making me feel everything, and I surely hope you guys pick this up and feel everything too.

It took me weeks to find words to describe this beautiful story. This Old Heart of Mine is about second chances... One is has given a chance to live a life She never experience, Other one has given a chance to find a way to live a life after a everything He lost. Different situation connected to each other. What I love about this story is that its realness, situations that happens in real life. I love how A.J Compton devide each story into parts that made it more meaningful, like you are with the characters in every phase of their lives. You will understand once you read the story. This story will live in your hearts forever.
