Endurance

Rate this book
The sequel to the #1 best-seller, Highway

All they had to do was endure.
The enemy had other plans.

Several of America’s greatest cities have been nuked, the grid is down, food supplies are dwindling, and the lawless have taken over. Even those who prepared are struggling.

Lexi, her brother Travis, and her godfather Frank barely escaped with their lives to a bug-out home her father had secretly set up for them. They thought they would be safe; all they’d have to do is protect each other.

But another threat is headed for their town and across the US. Standing alone will no longer be an option.

Even with the support of unlikely allies, an evil enemy will stop at nothing to bring Armageddon to America. Then all will face a fate worse than death.

Set in the future after American cities have been nuked, EMP’s have taken out the electrical grid, food is scarce, and lawlessness is on the rise, “Endurance” the second thrilling story in the “Highway” series heats up when drones infiltrate the airspace over U.S. military bases poisoning the air with a nerve agent that kills the soldiers and anyone close by. At Hasta Military Base near Endurance, Florida two soldiers escape, returning in hazmat suits to look for anyone who survived only to find the area contaminated and everyone dead except one soldier who needs an antidote to live.

Having settled in Endurance with their godfather Frank Cartwright, Lexi and her brother Travis, staying in the house their father set up before his death suddenly find their lives in danger again as the Islamic Front in America plans a second wave of terror after the gassing of U.S. military bases. Only with the help of their mysterious neighbour Jasper, Jonah a criminal opportunist and his men as well as immigrants living in one of his warehouses near the water front will Frank, Lexie and the town be able to fight off a coordinated jihadist invasion.

Woven into this exciting sequel is Frank’s friend Grimes who operates the American Freedom Network in Stowell, Texas warning of an attack on the military bases and the subterfuge of the terrorists in their plan to take over American towns and introduce sharia law. As he broadcasts his updates, connects with Travis who's operating Frank's radio receiver, the intensity and suspense ratchet higher when all hell breaks loose even in Stowell with a beheading, a broken antenna, and confrontations with a bunch of crazies and terrorists.

Fast -paced, the action builds in Endurance with the escape of two soldiers from the sarin gas attack on their base, the betrayal of Jonah’s son and his deal with the terrorist leader as well the jihadist attacks. With twists and turns as the plot progresses to a gripping ending that includes Lexi’s escape from her imprisonment by the terrorists and Imam Ramadi’s sentencing of her, Frank and Jonah to death, a mystery develops around Travis’s disappearance that lays the framework for a third book.

Bringing the story to life are an abundance of complex and compelling characters like feisty, impulsive Lexi Broadmoor; her chatty, inquisitive brother Travis; her observant and protective godfather Frank Cartwright; the disloyal, conniving Cain; and his father the clever and resourceful Jonah Price.

This is a book that must be read carefully as there is a lot going on, but I enjoyed it thoroughly and can’t wait to see where Prepper and Banner will take the story next.

Reader beware...

Aghhh....I just finished this very good eotwawku and need to know what happens next! I'm not a patient reader. I usually don't read books that aren't a complete series. Somehow I missed that this one would have more to come.
Both this and the first one are definitely above average for the genre. Twist you can't see coming are great and already the characters have shown great growth and depth.
I gave it only 4 stars because I'm frustrated that the next one isn't out and it leaves off in multiple cliffhangers. But i still have to recommend it!

Brilliantly written great book so glad I found this author so far I've read Highway and endurance the madness series and the stone age series can't get enough at the moment I like apocalyptic but these are so refreshing usually it's a virus or zombies good don't get me wrong but these stories are a cut above the rest

Fantastic read!!

I loved the twist and turns once again. This was exciting from beginning to end. I could almost see it playing out like a movie as I read. And the last twist I was kind of surprised, but I was beginning to have some doubts about that person already, as he was never around when anything significant went down, he always showed up late or later

Frightening

I find this series to be frightening because I think it is already beginning. It is starting in our schools and on our politicians. It is a shame there doesn't seem to be a true ending. No book 3.

So terribly possible,,,

I love this series even though they really make you believe. It's not too farfetched! These books are so well written and I felt the need to "prep".

Worst than the first book...very predictable and disappointing. Also, advertising for your prepper nonfiction books inside your novels is really, really tacky.

As Lexi and Travis attempt to find some semblance of normal with Frank, their godfather, the wheels of terror and jihad continue to turn. It is time for 'Phase Two'.

Frank tries to fulfill the promise that he made to their dad; he will keep Lexi and Travis safe. But maybe he won't have to do it alone. With the help of the reclusive neighbor, Jasper, maybe the kids can be protected while other dish out a vengeance on the terrorists who are vowing to utterly destroy America.

Will they figure out the elusive 'Phase Two' in time? And is there another threat looming in the neighboring town of Endurance? So many doubts, twists, and constant action create a great story that I just couldn't put down! This was very well written with clear and descriptive characters that left me guessing at their motives! I really enjoyed this and I'll be waiting (rather impatiently) for more!!

Great second book in series!

In Highway book 1, we met Lexi, her little brother, Travis and her Godfather, Frank. Islamic terrorists have set off EMP's which forced the USA back to life like the mid 1800's. These terrorists have also activated the sleeper cells which had been building for many years. Unfortunately, Lexi and Travis's uncle Abdul is head of all these terrorists and seeks to establish his caliphate on American soil. This second book picks up where Lexi and Travis have escaped his clutches but now their father dead. Their Godfather, Frank, is taking them to the bug out location in Florida that their father, a prepper, had prepared for them. This terrorists are still trying to take over the USA and American militias must find a way to win against overwhelming odds. There is a cliffhanger and I sincerely hope the next book in this series comes out soon! If it is going to take months for it to come out, I hope the authors lead in with a good backgrounds review of books 1 and 2. Well worth the read! Highly recommend this series!
