Summary: What EveryBODY is Saying - a Synopsis of Joe Navarro's Book (An Ex-FBI Agent's Guide to Speed-Reading People) ~ Body Language, Non-Verbal Communication in Social Psychology
This is a synopsis of the original book written by Joe Navarro. This summary book is NOT written by Joe Navarro. It has been summarized in order for the reader to absorb substantial information in about thirty minutes reading time.
People lie for different reasons; whether to get out of a difficult situation, to avoid further unnecessary explanation or in a bid to be polite. What many people don’t know is; whenever they tell a lie with words from the mouth, their other body parts are revealing non-verbally what they really feel and the fact that they are being dishonest. Non-verbal communications don’t deal only with lies; it tells the story of how we feel, who we like, where we don’t want to be and so on.
After reading this book, insight will be gained about the nonverbal “tells” our body gives away under certain circumstances and how we can correctly interpret the nonverbal “tells” that the people around us give off. This will not only improve our quality of life but also our day-to-day interaction with other people.
You may not become a human lie-detector or mind speed-reader, but you’ll be the closest thing to it. Regardless of verbal communication, you will be able to figure out when your spouse has had a bad day, when your kid is becoming truant, when your boss is unsatisfied with your work etc. Also, through the use of your body language, you will be able to know what non-verbal cues to give off to exhibit confidence, self-assurance, and inspire empathy.
This book is very helpful and interesting. Joe the author explained many powerful ways to your human body. There is a lot of securities that our bodies can tell about us, the way we stand, the way we point to and how our face keeps changing all the time; it is all signs that can uncover what we real are and how we think about different thinks all the time. Personally, I like how the book covered the way we stand, it can tell us a lot about us; where our mind is focus. Also, what are we thinking at this moment in time. Even in this book explain how all these signs we do can show what is our next move. This is very important information that anyone can learn and understand the way as humans think and act. Understanding the way our body can tell about us, is very powerful tool that can be used against as in many ways. Other signs that the book talked about is hand signs, hand can tell a lot about the person front of us and talking to us. Hand can show if the person is comfortable or not, or it can show that they are that they fear something or someone.
Good information, but not enough scientific backing and author spent an enormous amount of the text patting himself on the back. Not enough applicable day-to-day information. Anybody who wants to delve into this genre should check out "The Definitive Book of Body Language" instead IMO.
Still a good read, and glad I read it, but if you had to read this or the Definitive Book of Body Language, I'd read that instead.
The book is good. However it gives a feeling that we already are aware of many limbic reactions based on our own people experiences, that are mentioned here.
It was informative but a bit too long. The text could have been summarized in about 100 pages, rather than repetition of the concept. Maybe a bit textbook style but overall I enjoyed reading it.
