Will evil prevail? Can the portal “Give Peace a Chance?”
What will Fritz Russell have to confront next? And where? After he opened the portal into the Oval Office and became friends with the man who works there, Fritz reluctantly agreed to help the president make the world a safer place. He saved hostages, helped prevent a nuclear war, and began a life of excitement and danger he never saw coming.
Now an ominous shadow has been cast by a hidden enemy prepared to use violence to upend world affairs. The president has only a year left in office, and every disruption fuels his concern. As violence escalates and Fritz himself becomes a target, the portal may be the only way he and the president can end the growing danger and bring peace to the globe.
But the voice in the shadows believes they cannot thwart his plan. “Uncertainty breeds fear,” he says. “Fear wins elections. Scared people don’t want more of what makes them afraid.”

The Quantum Touch series written by Michael R. Stern offers an opportunity to revisit a history that we might not have thought much about since grade school... in Shadow Storm, the third I've read in the author's series, several historical figures guide our hero, a high school teacher who's found a portal, as he attempts to save the world again. This time, the US President is in danger, and Fritz is stuck between saving his country and protecting his own life and that of his unborn child.

One of the things I love best about this series is the tone and writing style. Stern has a wonderful way of sharing historical facts with a gentle, guiding hand that intrigues and educates readers. You turn the pages to find out what parts of the past might tell him how to prevent a disastrous future, but you also worry that he'll cross a line one day and never return. But truthfully, the books aren't so much about time travel as they are using time travel to help someone in present times. While science-fiction guides the plot, the underlying story is one of friendship, love, mystery, and drama.

Fritz's wife wants him to help save the world, but she worries about him dying. She's eight months pregnant and has to straddle the line of what's fair. Ashley, his best friend who never settled down, might have met the woman of his dreams finally. And the school principal is always against using the school for the portal's magic... in this book, he has no choice but to comply. And as the plot thickens, we learn that someone has betrayed the President and Fritz. Life hangs in the balance. The portal might fall into the wrong hands. What a clever story, and one I highly recommend for young adults, adults, and even those who aren't typical science-fiction readers like myself. There is a world of fantastic characters and strong settings to pull you in and keep you interested.

The political intrigue ramps up in this third book of the Quantum Touch series. Although there is still a space/time portal in Fritz Russell's classroom, this story straddles the sci-fi part of the tale into thriller/crime territory. The mild-mannered high school teacher takes a leap through the portal into a very dangerous situation to rescue a friend (who happens to be the President of the United States).
On the homefront, Fritz's wife, Linda, is less than pleased with his willingness to throw himself into harm's way, especially since they are on the brink of having their first child.
Ashley is back, of course, and continues to explore a relationship with a very complex military officer (who is a scientist in her own right).
Also returning is General Robert E. Lee (whom Fritz has frequently visited in the mid-nineteenth century). Lee wants to see what the future looks like. Is it even possible to bring someone from the past into the present? What might be the consequences of doing so?
Who are these 'bad guys' who back the terrorist's kidnapping of the President? Could they be from the depths of Washington depravity?
If you've read the first two books, you'll want to continue this series as the stakes seem to be growing higher.

This was a very good story.. Contains Time Portals, Terrorism, suspense, and Fun, who could ask for anything more.. I do have one suggestion to readers.. Make sure you read part one and two before reading this one, because it is hard to just get into when you have no idea what is going on.. Took me about 35 pages or so.. I love how the author also left it open for a sequel, and did so subtly, and without leaving anything hanging on the edge .. I have to admit when they bring Robert E Lee to this time at the end of the book was the best part for me and left me wanting to find out if anything cause problems by bringing him here in the next novel... Cliff Hanger for sure..The one complaint I have about this book is that the author would do these Conversations in style of Jane Said" whatever". and Jean replied " Rude" Just an example, and then the next thing you know there would be a conversation without that and it would take me a moment to reroute my brain to the fact that all did not have it... Love this book and can't wait to read the other two and hopefully he will make another one.

Another fine offering in this series.

I like this series for it's positive viewpoint and likable characters. The character development is well done and the action scenes quick but without the graphic violence so many authors seem to think necessary. The addition of the science of expanding the 'method' of travel through the portals helped get the author out of writing himself into a corner to expand the main character's ability.

It did get a bit sidetracked with some of the classroom scenes, but not so much that it ruined the story. More action and less classroom scenes and this is easily a five star effort.

This is book three in an interesting series that examines the use of portals. Fritz Russell is a teacher of history and is fascinated by the past. When he discovers he can use portals, his life and the lives of those around him change. When Fritz joins forces with the President to thwart evil doers, readers are in for a fascinating trip. I always enjoy a book by this author.who knows how to tell a good story in an inviting way.

Melding the past and present...

Always with an eye on the future. I imagine this is an easy task for no author, yet Michael R. Stern had done it yet again with the most thrilling tale thus far.

The continuation of a series, this being the third, containing the same characters with addition of a few more, this is a fast reading tale well worth the time. I set it aside for a time after starting the book, then today read right through it non-stop. It wasn't by choice I kept reading this day, it was compelled by the urgency of the story and the currency of the issues discussed in the story. The characters have even more flesh, making them human, the story is woven with the characters entering and leaving in a manner which draws you to both the characters and the story. The ideas presented in the story are vital, current, and reflect a thoughtfulness on the part of author. I won't relate the tale to you. You will have to read it yourself. One thing I will say and that is the naming of a President in the book did nothing to diminish its intensity or readability. Using current figures of import can backfire but it certainly did not in this story. There are five books in this series and I will definitely be reading the fourth very soon. Great job again Mr. Stern.

The adventure continues with new dangers and impressive heroism.
A secret syndicate continues to create chaos, attempting to influence the next election with terrorism and assassination. “Uncertainty breeds fear. Scared people don’t want more of what made them afraid.” Adventure and danger are interwoven with time travel and history. There’s a school history game, a blossoming romance, and daring rescues. In addition, what are the dangers inherent in using the mysterious time portal? Could it change their reality and the time travelers who use it?

There are discussions on the separation of church and state, hate rooted in fear, and Lincoln’s moral predicament as he chooses between slavery and war. Fritz teaches his students to think critically, challenging assumptions, becoming the deep thinkers who are crucial to democracy. “As a soldier, no one can know the destruction of war better and want peace more. Perhaps someday we will find a better way.” Well done!
