Rate this book
First, he was a beloved college football champion, Heisman trophy winner, media sensation, and best-selling author drafted in the first round of the 2010 Draft. Then he had a miracle playoff run with the Denver Broncos before being traded to the New York Jets. After one season he was cut by New York. Next he was signed by the New England Patriots then let go after training camp—a scenario that repeated itself the following summer with the Philadelphia Eagles. Tim Tebow has achieved big victories and plunged the depths of failure, all while never letting go of his faith, even in the face of doubt and disappointment. In Shaken he explains why neither the highs nor the lows of his life can define him—and he reveals how you, too, can find confidence in your identity and know who you are. In revealing passages, Tebow pulls back the curtain on his life, sharing the vulnerable moments of his career that have shaken him to his core—while also teaching the biblical principles that will enable you to keep the faith, no matter what comes your way.

I am a HUGE Tim Tebow fan, and I loved this book! It is great to see a young man who isn't afraid to show his faith in God openly. I recommend this book not only to those who love football, but to anyone who wants to see an example of how to keep your faith when it feels like your world is falling apart.

I'm not a football person or a fan at all, but I do know Tim Tebow.
Who doesn't know about Tebowing - right?
I've not read any of his other books, but when he had a spare weekend & stopped into our church & spoke & talked about his future book, I wanted to grab it, just to support someone who is giving a good message to the world on faith & reminding us WHOSE we are - not who we are.
I really did enjoy the book - even the parts of Tim telling his football story. I thought that part may bore me a bit, but it was interesting to see how he handled being let go of the organizations he was a part of.
The book is full of Tim's experiences in life as a teenager on mission trips, to playing in the big leagues, to everything in between. & it all holds great reminders of God's truth.
Some of the stories, I've heard before... some of the points he makes on scripture, I've heard most of them in other places, but there were a few little snippets of truths that were new to me that really gripped me. I have to say, for me reading a book on a football player, I really did enjoy it.

A roller coaster is a fitting term for Tim Tebow. As a Heisman Trophy winner and with two national championships under his belt, his future appeared bright. Tebow was originally drafted in the first round by the Denver Broncos in 2010. He was subsequently traded to the New York Jets and did short stints with the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles.

While thousands of people flocked to see their hero on the gridiron, not everyone was as enthusiastic about Tebow’s performance. He was criticized from the start and endured the scorn of people who rejected his outspoken Christian faith.

Tebow underscores the events of his life as a professional athlete and guides readers through the emotional rollercoaster in his latest book, Shaken: Discovering Your True Identity in the Midst of Life’s Storms. The book is a window into the heart of Tim Tebow as he shares about his bumps and bruises along the way.

Tim Tebow is the “Dan Quayle” of the sports world. Here is a man who works harder than most athletes and has exemplary integrity to boot. Like Dan Quayle, though, Tebow has been treated unfairly. He has been unjustly criticized by the media. And his Christian convictions have been cast aside by many.

But Tebow does not write as a martyr. He writes as a fellow-traveller. He writes to inspire young people. And he succeeds in achieving his goal. Shaken is packed with inspirational stories that provide a much-needed perspective in an entitled world. The book reminds readers that they are significant in the eyes of God; that they have a contribution to make. Tebow’s wisdom and enthusiasm are contagious and will no doubt encourage many young athletes.

I respect and admire Tim Tebow. His love for the Lord Jesus Christ and people is worth emulating. And his character is above reproach. Indeed, Tim Tebow is a worthy role model for America’s young people. However, a few critiques are in order as one who desires to fairly review a book. First, the emphasis on the “unconditional love of God” should be modified and re-articulated. Readers are encouraged to see David Powlison’s book, God’s Love: Better Than Unconditional . Powlison’s book is the best starting point and will offer a better explanation that conforms to the pattern of Scripture.

Second, while readers are urged to trust in Christ and accept his gift of salvation, there is a missing element of repentance. It is certainly true that Scripture invites/commands sinners to believe but saving faith always includes repentance. Signs of repentance are absent in this work.

Summary

Shaken is a basic biographical account of a well-known sports icon. As such, it is written with the student-athlete in mind. Christian athletes will be inspired and touched by the testimony of Tim Tebow. The author’s worldview is spelled out in clear terms here:

"Trophies don’t last. Awards come and go. Impressive titles move from one person to the next. But how we live can make an eternal impact."

Tebow has been unfairly caricatured and criticized. He continues to move forward, despite the abuse that his critics hoist upon him. Indeed, he has been shaken, but he has not been moved. He continues to use his gifts to glorify God and encourage many people. His newest book is a testimony to this fact.

I received this book free from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review.

"I don't know what you are staring in the face at this very moment. Maybe you're struggling with finances, health, or relationships, or you feel like you just don't matter. Know this: Your past doesn't define you. Your circumstances don't define you. From this day forward, let God define whose you are. You can be a child of God."

"When your world is shaken, when the plans and dreams you’ve created, perhaps even banked on, get obliterated, when the path on which you walk is moving in an unknown and a particularly unwanted direction, what do you do? Better yet, what do you hold on to? I knew in that moment, I had to hold on to truth. It was the only solid ground I had. I had to remember what God said.

"For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope." And Psalm 56:3 "When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You."

This books was exactly what I needed right now. My life is "shaken up" with everything we are going through with my Autistic son and this book truly blessed me in so many ways. I annotated so many parts of this book!

Tim Tebow shares parts of his testimony, faith walk and struggles as a professional athlete. This book truly lets us in to the heart of who Tim Tebow is. Whether you are a lover of sports or not, we can all learn from this book. I personally am a football fan and love what Tim stands for, but regardless, I think anyone would enjoy this. In addition to Tim's own life story, he provides many stories of real people he has met along the way in his life, and how the Lord worked through their hardships. Stories including people sick with cancer, special needs children, ministering to men in prison and more. Tim always points to Jesus in this book and I love it.

My favorite part of this book was his ministry to men in prisons, the details surrounding his Night to Shine project for special needs teens and his John 3:16 testimony story.

God has truly worked through Tim in many ways over the years, leading so many to Christ. Even when we don't know what's happening or why, trust in the Lord and believe His plan. I also love that this book has a prayer to give your life to Jesus. Just an overall beautiful Christian non-fiction.

Shaken is one of the most heart-wrenching, exhilarating, and humorous, but humbling and hope-filled books I’ve ever read. It’s quite impressive how open and candid Tebow chose to be. But this book is so much more than making an impression. It’s a true story meant to inspire, teach, and encourage people in a world where identity is sought more in materialism than in God—written with much conviction and confidence. In Shaken, you’ll find that the courage and encouragement to stand for righteousness amidst one’s imperfection (but in the presence of positive growth) are not only amiable but also commendable. This prose invites the reader to question where they’ve placed their identity, and then attempts to guide the reader on a path to do so rightly. Clearly, it was Tebow’s intention to take each reader on a journey with the hope that they would come out on the brighter side after much personal reflection and deliberation.

Overall, Shaken is a lovely and excellent read deserving of each endorsement that it’s received.

"I am a child of God. My foundation for who I am is grounded in faith. In a God who loves me. In a God who gives me purpose. In a God who sees the big picture. In a God who always has a greater plan." Shaken, Tim Tebow.

There are differences to the faith I have and that of Tim Tebow, but essentially there is much that I love about this book. Shaken takes you through the life lessons that Tim has experienced. He starts out immediately by engaging you in his struggle being let go by the New England Patriots, and all that follows concerning his NFL Football career. I found his insight and outlook to be inspiring. There was much I read within the pages, that lifted me. This is a great book to have as a reference, or to keep by your bed, so you can pick it up after a difficult day. I found many of the stories he shared to feel genuine and sincere, and he doesn't strike me as an individual that is looking for praise or reward for his thoughts. He is seeking to inspire and lift those around him and through the pages of his book.

While I am a sports fan, I knew very little about Tim other than what I heard on the occasional sound bites of the media. In todays society, being a Christian and having ethics and morals is not easy. He is an example of one who will not compromise his values for the sake of a paycheck or fame. That is impressive. Is this a book I could read non stop all the way through? I'm not much of a non fiction reader, though I own many of them, I prefer to use them as a reference, or just to pick it up every now and then and read a chapter.

I was given the opportunity to read Tim's book as part of a Influencer group, and I thought I'd give it a try. I am not disappointed. Great read, with many of the experiences and messages on pointe considering todays world. I have referenced it already several times in sharing Tim's and others experiences within the book, with my own children. As they face tough choices and unkindness amongst their peers, in illustrating that when things happen that are out of our control, or even within our control but still don't go the way we want. When we are truly feeling 'Shaken' that God will always be there, loving and guiding and we must stay firm and steadfast in our faith.

This would be a great gift for friends and family that love sports & have Christian beliefs.

Thank you to Tim & all the team at Waterbrook Press for the complimentary copy and the opportunity to read and review 'Shaken'.

I have long admired Tim Tewbow, taking a knee to show his love of the Lord, not to down our Country.
Tim Tewbow lives his faith on his sleeve, and this book only made my respect for him go higher. I loved how Tim points out in Chapter 7, What Is Normal, a young girl going through her life with CP, and accepting all that she has been handed and just figured she was normal and this is the way it is, which is true, until a bully raised their head.
While reading this book you might want to have some tissues handy, when we get to the part at the prison and death row, awe I loved Cell 4 on they suicide watch. God using people that love him, and sharing his word, what more can we want!
This story is really not about football, and yet it is part of Tim, as we journey with him and his special love of kids and working with WI5H, what a heart he has for them, and loved his sharing them with us.
We begin with Tim’s early life to the present as he shares his gifts with us and how he goes about doing what he feels the Lord would want him to do, a book you will not want to put down.
I received this book through the Publisher Waterbrook, and was not required to give a positive review.

This was a quick and easy read that I enjoyed! My sister and brother-in-law are foster parents to eight special needs kiddos in Haiti so I've always been drawn to the work of Tim Tebow's foundation and this book just confirmed that I think they're doing great work. Tim does a great job reminding us that even when the circumstances around us fall apart, we still have our identity in Christ.

If Tim purposely wrote this book to encourage and inspire believers to a more active faith- he just won the Heisman- again. I read parts aloud to my husband and we were both moved by Tim's stories of how God has worked through him to get the message of His love out. I am encouraged, and hopeful, and have a new resolve to love God and love people today. A refreshing, easy read!

In Tebow's book, he considers the failure of his NFL career after his successful run with the Denver Broncos. He’s now trying to make it as a baseball player with the Arizona Fall League, where, once again, he’s been hailed for his good work ethic, leadership skills and clutch play but is still struggling to master the outfield. NFL legend and ESPN analyst Steve Young is among those pulling for him. But many who admire Tebow say he simply doesn’t have pro-quality aptitude. Clearly, Tebow needs to do some soul searching as well beyond the platitudinous “God loves and has a plan for each one us” philosophy of “Shaken.” After reading this disappointing book – which sets out to explore his conflicting emotions after being cut by the New England Patriots and then goes all Joel Osteen on us – and mulling its revelations that Tebow had offers to play halfback in the NFL, you begin to see a stubborn pride that seems a little less than godly. OK, so maybe a halfback is a brutal comedown from being a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback, but how great was his professional gridiron dream then? Lots of people take half a loaf professionally when none at all is the alternative. Bottom line: “Shaken” will leave readers shaken but not stirred.

Tim Tebow and the Tim Tebow Foundation have encountered so many amazing people. In #Shaken Tim talks about his faith journey through public rejections, but also introduces many of the people around the world whose personal faith outweighed any illness or physical ailment or troubles they've experienced. The only reason I didn't put 5 stars is because I didn't quite feel his shakenness, maybe because I'm at a height in my journey. I wanted it to get just a little more personal. However, I admire his resiliency and ability to focus on other people. I LOVE the other people he introduces, and that is what I could connect to the most and still felt inspired throughout the book. I appreciate his positivity in this world, his drive and passion, ability to move on, and outspoken faith, especially as a 29 year old male athlete, and that's what I am happy to promote any day. I highly recommend this book for anyone in a transitional stage of life asking "What now?," specifically high school and college seniors.

I commend Tebow for his attempt to spread positivity and light into the world. The trials of his life had all the makings of creating a truly inspirational book, but for me, his storytelling just fell flat. Tebow has been through a lot in his career, but throughout the book he never seems to truly hit rock bottom. Stating that you were sad and discouraged doesn't provide a layered, complex, or relatable narrative. He never seemed to lose faith, even momentarily, which did not come across as believable. The book just skims the surface level of all his emotions without digging deeper to express true pain and despair. Every chapter had the same bland message: "I went through struggles. I held onto my faith. Everything is good"...If he was willing to write an entire book about how he was "Shaken", I think he owes it to himself (& the reader) to be truly vulnerable. Unfortunately his lack of vulnerability and his inability to express his desired theme in a more subtle or mature manner, makes the writing, & thus the message, seem vapid.

Where do I start? This book is not only informative, but it is inspiring. In the Book, Tim Tebow not only tells you his life story but he explains to you how through his trials and his hardships you cannot only overcome them but use them to your benefit. He is constantly helping others and showing us how helping people can not only help us, but also benefit our relationship with other people and more importantly God. To continue Tim Tebow is also repeatedly looking towards God for guidance and continuously praying about other people's sicknesses(as he is a part of the W15H foundation) and for people in poverty. To conclude, this book is really just about how you as a person can get over Life's Storms by just trusting in God that he will be there for you when you need it the most.

I'm not a huge football fan (sorry, Tim!) In fact, I have only watched one game in my whole life that I can remember, and even that I didn't watch in its entirety. But I've heard of Tim Tebow, and a friend lent me this book knowing I needed it in that moment. She was right. This isn't a memoir, though Tim does share stories from his own life. It's a book that really focuses on God's love and purpose for all of our lives. With humility and grace, Tim encourages us all to find our purpose in WHOSE we are, not in anything else. Not our vocations, plans, or dreams. I'm going to remember this book for some time.

Book Review by Wayne J. Keeley

Tim Tebow was a college football champion, Heisman trophy winner, drafted in the first round of the 2010 Draft.

I am not one for spectator sports – unless, of course, I have money on a game. And in that case, I am the biggest, most avid sports fan alive. But I have never quite understood the fun of simply watching other people who get paid millions of dollars just to play a recreational game, whether it’s baseball, football, basketball, hockey, etc. Suffice it to say, since I do not follow sports on a regular basis, I am not a great one for testosterone-fueled bar room, happy-hour type of conversation and camaraderie with my male buddies while watching players move a ball down a field. (I should note that I am not a total geek – I do enjoy actually playing some sports, especially in my younger days.)

So, as hard as it may be to believe, I’d never heard of Tim Tebow before reading his book. I didn’t know he was a football player or a celebrity. (Even my wife knew he was!) I never heard of Tebowing – the act of dropping to one knee and praying during a sporting event. (Even my seventeen-year-old son knew about that.) So I read his book Shaken: Discovering Your True Identity in the Midst of Life’s Storms without any preconceived notions whatsoever. I stumbled across it in Barnes & Noble while looking at the shelves containing The New York Times Bestsellers – I saw the title and am always on the hunt for motivational and inspirational books. The dust jacket described how a top athlete’s life was shaken to its very core and how he had weathered the storm; it seemed a worthwhile investment to help cure some of the malaise and stagnation that I’ve have recently felt in my own career.

Now I have come to learn that Tim Tebow is known worldwide from his college football days; he’s a two-time national champion, a first-round NFL draft pick, a humanitarian, a public speaker, a bestselling author, and founder of the Tim Tebow Foundation. Probably most important of all, however, is that I also discovered that Tim Tebow is a highly competitive, sincere, passionate individual who speaks from his heart.

Shaken is a rubric for weathering life’s rollercoaster rides of ups and downs. There is a saying about how you had better be kind to the people going up the ladder because you’re going to see the same ones on your way down. As Shaken points out, fame – like money and looks – is transitory. What’s lasting is the legacy that you leave; the legacy that you build in life via helping and loving others. While the book may not be unique and/or original in its advice, themes, or guidance, Tebow’s narrative style makes his points poignant and palatable. Indeed, it’s a quick, easy read that keeps you engaged.

From an organizational standpoint, Shaken is well-written and scores countless touchdowns with its readers (sorry, couldn’t help the pun!). The book opens as he is cut from the New England Patriots; this devastation sets the stage and foreshadows both his later victories and triumphs. But this isn’t just a run-of-the-mill comeback story. Tebow smartly peppers his chapters with case histories of real people who are struggling with life-and-death issues. The overall effect is both instructive and motivational. I must say that as his life is so vastly different from mine, it is a bit tougher for me to empathize with Tebow’s passing up a chance to make a million dollars in one day for a commercial. Or when he was cut from one team as a quarterback only to get offers from other NFL teams for other positions. While I can understand that disappointment, like all other feelings, it is both subjective and relative; however, I was more empathetic for the cancer-stricken young teen who had her appendix, uterus, ovaries, spleen, colon, gallbladder, and most of her small intestine removed, yet still persevered and refused to be a “victim of cancer.” It was stories like that which gave Shaken much of its power and strength.

Tebow’s passion for Christianity is interwoven throughout his narrative, but I never felt that he proselytized nor did I feel smothered by religious pedagogy. But when bad things happen to good people and we then find ourselves questioning our faith, Tebow is realistic and pragmatic enough to note that our questions “may be answered on this side of heaven, or they may not be.” As a corollary, Tebow preaches that while God has a master plan for each of us which we may never understand in our lifetime, “don’t let that stop you from fighting the good fight and keep the faith.” Quoting Pablo Picasso, Tebow states that “action is the foundational key to success.” Tebow’s emphasis on action reminded me of another motivational writer, Anthony Robbins, who used to say while you can’t worry about everything in life, if you never weed your garden, eventually the weeds will take it over.

While there are many Bible quotes, they all are adroitly used to illustrate and support the themes and points made in the book. My favorite story involves how Tebow would reference Bible quotes in his football eye black (glare-reducing grease). In 2009, he wore “John 3:16” that describes how God gave us eternal life through Jesus on his eye black during the National Championship game. Apparently, ninety-four million people Googled “John 3:16” during the game. What was even more astonishing, however, was that three years after wearing “John 3:16” (and after the NFL forbade personalizing eye-black), Tebow and the Broncos defeated the heavily favored Steelers 29 to 23. After the win, a reporter brought to Tebow’s attention that the game was exactly three years after he wore “John 3:16.” During the game, Tebow threw for 316 yards; his yards per completion were 31.6; and the ratings for the night were 31.6 million! That kind of stuff syncs with my own beliefs that there are no coincidences and sometimes the universe truly does converge.

Tebow collaborated on Shaken with veteran, best-selling writer, A.J. Gregory, whom Tebow thanks in his acknowledgments.

Overall, Shaken accomplishes what it sets out to do: it inspires, motivates, guides, educates, and entertains. I look forward to reading other works by Tim Tebow – at least now I know who he is!

Personal Response:
Shaken, an uplifting and encouraging book to read, deals with self-acceptance and how to find values that hold true to a person. Shaken is interesting based on the amount of information that Tim Tebow, an NFL star and Pastor, presents to his readers. I think Tebow does a great job explaining values and his faith by providing great textual evidence throughout the novel. Tebow projects to his readers what kind of faith he believes in as well as to understand what position he stands by in his religious beliefs.

Plot:
Tim Tebow relives some of the most heart-wrenching events that shaped him into who he is today. Tebow lives off the power of his faith, and the power it gives when times are rough. At the beginning of the novel, Tim explains that he feels many hardships by being fired from multiple NFL teams who accepted him. Getting kicked off of the teams made Tim realize that things only happen for the right reasons. The test of faith is now being put to work during Tim’s most difficult times. Tim Tebow is on the breaking point of trying to find his identity in order to repair himself as a person. Months go by and Tim finally reaches out to people before the depression starts to take over. Tim’s friends become more reactive to what is going on around Tim and could see the damage regret does to their friend. Tim Tebow begins to find the courage to find the faith to open up his friends to take the pressure off his chest. The more regret affects Tim, the faster Tim tries to find closure in himself to repair all the guilt. After Tim finds faith, he begins teaching the disabled to admire faith and to keep on pursuing their dreams in the midst of their own personal struggles.

Characterization:
Tim Tebow’s character is defined as an outgoing but shy individual .Shaken provides readers with many individuals that are seen in the public eye but are often going through hardships of their own. Tebow proves to be a strong-opinionated individual but often struggled with the hardships that are thrown in his way.
Tebow’s misfortunes prove to be the antagonist in the novel due to the fact these misfortunes are gaining control over Tim and lower his self-belongingness.

Setting:
The setting takes place throughout many football stadiums. The topics Tim discusses are hardships that are made inside NFL properties. Time occurrences of Tebow’s topics span from the time he is first accepted into the NFL to the time the NFL calls to kick Tim off the team. Tim Tebow is drafted in 2010 by the Denver Broncos. The same year in 2010, Tebow is let go from the Denver Broncos. Locations of Shaken always report back onto the football field or Tim’s homelife in Jacksonville, Florida.

Thematic Connection:
Shaken Tim’s biggest message in Shaken is not letting simple challenges overrule personal accomplishments that make people feel better about themselves. Tebow lives by one simple life lesson that is explained in the book as his life motto: “when life hits you out of nowhere and challenges arrive, you have to get back up no matter what.” Tim’s biggest message in Shaken is not letting simple challenges overrule personal accomplishments that make people feel better about themselves.

Recommendation
I recommend Shaken to readers who enjoy reading faithful connections. This book includes large amounts of faith, so the content can be hard at times in terms of identifying biblical wording. Male and female will both find interest in the book because the storyline is about finding faith, and doesn’t include Tim Tebow’s football career to full extents. I recommend Shaken to a high school and above age leveled reader due to the kind of language and content that may be challenging to understand. Shaken deals with many biblical terms throughout the text. A reader who enjoys biblical content including real-life situations would enjoy readingShaken and the evidence of how faith can shape an individual’s life.

I’m not into sports but the title and the author of this book, Shaken grabbed my attention. I’ve heard of Tim Tebow and wanted to know more. He asks readers this question, “When life shakes you up – Who are you? Who do you cling to?”

I was pleasantly surprised by how transparent he was as he lifted the veil to give readers a peek. As he takes readers for a walk in his shoes, they quickly see it’s not all fame and glory. His world was shaken up a few times which had him asking the question, “Who Am I when something that has defined me my entire life is gone? Taken away.”

Tim Tebow shares what keeps him grounded. He says it like this, “Who Am I? I am an object of His (God’s) love.”…I am a child of God. My foundation for who I am is grounded in my faith. In a God who loves me. In a God who gives me purpose….God is love….”His love gives Tim Tebow the foundation and courage he needs to step out of his comfort zone and do what he feels called to do.

He’s created and helped fund a foundation that brings Hope, Faith and Love to children all over the world. It’s called Orphan Care. He also helps a medical facility called Tebow Cure Hospital. His foundation sponsors a yearly event titled Night to Shine. (It’s like prom night)

In the book Tim talks with Mark Stuart, former lead singer of Audio Adrenaline who knows what it feels like to have your identity shaken by the unexpected. He says, “God was authoring a bigger picture, “Mark told me. He always gifts you to where He wants you to be in spite of yourself.”

Mark is asked this question often, “Don’t you miss singing? “The answer is always the same. “God has always healed me. I lost my voice as a singer so I can be a voice for the kids.”

Tim says, “Mark has not allowed a significant loss to define who he is. He is more than a rock star. More than a performer. More than a singer.”

Tim says, “Remember. When no team wanted me as their quarterback. I had to keep reminding myself over and over that God has a purpose…Some days it was easy to believe; other days it was a struggle.”

He was also reminded that God can do a lot with what we think is a little. He tells readers of the story in the bible of a little boy who gave his lunch – 5 loaves and two fish to help feed everyone. “He can take something small (like the boy’s lunch) and use it to perform a miracle. He can do the same with you….me.”

He quoted Martin Luther King, “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”

I was pleasantly surprised and very encourage by the things he shared about in this book. He is transparent, gritty and real. Tim Tebow is surrounded with people who are steadfast and faithful to God. He doesn’t get it perfect most times but he keeps keeping on no matter what comes his way.

Tim Tebow introduces readers to some hero’s he’s met. People that inspire and encourage him. I was amazed at how grounded and down to earth this young man is. I was also surprised by the foundation he has and the fact that his family were missionaries in the Philippines.

There is a lot of shaking going on in our world and I like this man’s outlook on life and how he deals with times that turn our world upside down. I’m thankful for the opportunity get to know the man behind the name, to read this book and share it with readers.

Shaken by Tim Tebow
A review by: Reese Lugbill

From the book Shaken Tim Tebow says, “The journey of faith isn’t easy. Life isn’t easy. But when you are united to Jesus by faith, you can begin to move mountains. Listen you’re going to doubt. You’re going to fall short. You’re going to struggle on some days. But know that God loves you. Know that he has an amazing plan for your life” (202).
This book is very inspirational. Before I started reading the book I thought of Tebow as this really good football player who didn’t have problems. Now I not only see him as a great football player, but I see how much he has gone through. Even though he experienced some really hard times he kept believing that everything was going to turn out for the best, because God had a plan for his life.
Most people view Tebow as this really tough guy who can do it all. However in reality he experiences hard times as well. He just has a really strong root in his faith which helps him through the hard times. He knows that God is there for him. This book is great for those who need some inspiration in their life. It takes a real life example which is very helpful for others. This book could really help someone who is experiencing something similar, because it shows Tebow’s beliefs and his outlook on life.
Throughout the book I constantly found myself relating to Tebow. For example if I’m going through something really tough I say a prayer to God and trust that he has my life under control. Tebow always viewed the hard times a wonderful opportunity to grow. I agree with Tebow that the hard times can help you become a better person. Sometimes you are going to have bad days but there is always a reason for them. Just like Tebow I look at the bad times as a way to grow.
I love how Tim Tebow developed as a character throughout the book: “Not long ago, I was in the process of reevaluating my goals and what I want to accomplish … That day I realized that my number one goal in life is to show Jesus through the way I live and the way I love” (196). Tebow was brainstorming a bunch of goals in his life. At the end he found that all of his goals had one thing in common. That one thing that all of his goals had in common is showing Jesus through the way he lives. This shows that before his brainstorming session he didn’t realize that all his goals had one thing in common. After he took a moment to think about his goals he lived his life differently. The next time he experienced something hard he come straight to Jesus. He knew that everything was under control.
This book is great for those that feel as if they are stuck in a dark pit with no way to get out. Tebow does a good job at showing how important his faith is and that nothing is impossible even in the rough patches in life. You should do what makes you happy not what others expect from you. This book is a real life changer. It could really help someone experience life in a whole new way.
I really liked this book. Overall I give this book 4 stars. I really enjoyed the book, but it wasn’t my favorite book ever. However It was cool to see the thoughts that go on inside of Tim Tebow’s mind. It’s really awesome that he uses his faith as a strength and not a weakness. Even though they’re are so many people around him that don’t believe in the same thing he does he continued to believe in his beliefs. Not only did he keep true to his faith, but he is inspiring others all around the world. There aren’t a lot of people that would be brave enough to do what he did. That’s why it’s so cool to hear about his amazing story.

After reading Amy Poehler's Yes Please and Tim Tebow's Shaken, I officially have a new love for this genre!

Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect when I finally sat down to read Shaken. I haven't read his first book, so I'm not familiar with his writing style or his voice. Ultimately though, I was pleasantly surprised!

When I was in high school, I had to read Tuesday's with Morrie and it was one of the only assigned books that I've actually enjoyed. I took so many inspirational quotes and life lessons away from that book, that it's earned a spot on my list of favorites! And believe it or not, I felt the same way about Tim's newest book as well!

Normally, when I review a novel, I take notes the entire time that I'm reading. I jot down anything from spelling errors and grammar mistakes to things that I do and don't like. However, with this book, I didn't follow my usual pattern. In fact, the only time that I took down notes was to make note of quotes that I loved, inspirational passages, and new ideas for blog posts based around Tim's book!

There were just so many things that I loved about Shaken that it's hard to know where to start! For one, I loved Tim's writing style. It's not often that I can pick up a book and feel like I'm talking directly to the author, but that's how Tim made me feel. It was as if he was sharing story after story with me, face to face!

And the stories! I was afraid that a majority of the book would be filled with football jargon and experiences that I wouldn't relate to, but that just wasn't the case! Shaken was full of inspiration, whether it be from Tim's own experiences or those of the people that he's encountered.

There were many times during my reading that I was surprised by the things that Tim had shared. He's always been a great inspiration in the Christian community so it was humbling knowing that he's gone through some of the struggles that he has. And obviously, I don't find joy in his pain, but I did find peace in knowing that I'm not alone. It was very comforting knowing that even someone like him needs to be reminded of God's glory every once in a while.

And that's another thing that I loved about Shaken, I found it to be very relatable. Tim made a great point about putting people on to pedestals and honestly, that's something that I did with him as well. Of course, I'll still fangirl if I ever get the chance to meet him, but I now see that he's human, just like the rest of us!

Overall, I would highly recommend this book! Tim's hope for Shaken was that anyone that picks up his book with their head down will finish it with their head held high, and I really think that's what will happen! I know that it definitely worked for me!

When I think of Tim Tebow, I think of Philippians 2:15. While I imagined him as (pardon me for saying it), a cookie-cutter Christian before I read this book, I learned that he is not so. The book starts with the story of how he was cut from one team, bounced to the next team, and eventually wanted by no team. He openly discusses his frustrations in this book and I sensed that he went through some dark periods. The way he comes out of his dark periods is the main objective of this book and he reveals beautifully. He is one of the "shine as lights in the world" people to me, not because he boldly flashed John 3:16 on TV; it's because of his character of willingness. And It's not about willingness to do a big thing or bold thing either. "He (God) will take whatever we have to offer and multiply it in a ways and for a purpose that we cannot even begin to imagine..." His throwing record of 316 yards, 3:16 yards per completion, 31:06 time of possession and 31.6 million rating for the night on the most amazing come back win against the Steelers in 2012 Wild Card game was maybe a favor from God because Tebow flashed John 3:16 on TV 3 years ago on the same exact date when he played the NCAA National Championship game which resulted in 94 million people googling John 3:16. That's why Tebow can say "Do something. Trust me, it counts." And his 'doing' isn't really about advertising Bible verses. You will read about his visits to sick children at their homes, hospitals and jails, and even to the death row inmates. His actions - how he interacts with people shows where he says his heart belongs to. I think that's why he can play for a minor lease baseball team called Columbia Fireflies and his T-shirts gets sold out 24 hours after going on sale. He will not have a Super Bowl ring but he will be rewarded for all the things he's been doing behind the scenes to lighten up people's soul. He's a real deal. This book was like a chewing gum. It was kind of flat to begin with but it gets better and better. I'm glad I read this book because I am encouraged to continue to do something because God can work some magic.

Tebow is Unshaken!

Great book that gives a solid perspective of how you can maneuver through some of life’s most difficult challenges. In this book, Tebow tells the story of being cut from three different NFL teams and being prevented from fulfilling his lifelong dream of being an NFL quarterback. Certainly, a blow to the gut and ego like this could be devastating if your career is the sole purpose of your identity. Tebow shares an important lesson that “in those places of doubt and even darkness, I have realized that who I am has nothing to do with wins or losses, applause or negative criticism. It has to do with whose I am.”

Tebow shares the story of how his faith in Christ has grounded him through life’s difficult storms. He shares about how his “circle of trust” (a group of family and loved ones) provides great counsel and support to him in tough times. And, he tells about the greater purpose that he has found by looking to help and encourage others on mission trips, in hospitals with terminal illness, etc. His purpose and identity in life is defined by so much more than football (although it is an extreme passion that has driven him all life). Tebow says “One day, according to the world, I’m on top of my game, adored, praised, and respected. And the next, I’m at the bottom of the heap, cut, criticized, and torn down. You know what I’ve learned in the process? How important it is not to allow either the highs or the lows in life to determine who you are.”

Tebow is wise beyond his years and has learned several important life lessons that many people may never learn. I can’t wait to share this book with my son (also a football fanatic). It’s jam-packed with great advice to ensure that you can stay unshaken amidst life’s storms. Thank you Tebow for sharing not only your story but your great wisdom.

I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group in exchange for my fair and unbiased review.

I love football, but not a big Florida fan. I am a Gamecock; therefore, Tim Tebow was an arch enemy on the field. Many in the sports arena gave him a hard time for always displaying his faith openly. In fact I think the NFL was extremely hard on him because he was an open Christian. Christians too have spoken harsh words about him and how he displays his faith, but I respect him for it. I wanted to read this book but every time I walked into the bookstore I would pick it up, glance through it, and then put it down for the new release of one of my favorite authors. However, this time I bought both the new release and Shaken. Man am I ever glad I did. This book has some of the most powerful statements that just slap you in the face. You can't help but review your life and the image you want other to have of you while reading. You will cry, pray and smile as you turn each page that you read. You will find quotes that you want to share with others inside the pages. I did not expect to feel this way. I thought I would enjoy the book, but I have found that it is going to become one of those books that will sit on my desk at school, so I can refer to it during times of struggle. This was a very surprising book, it was not holier than thou book, no judging others, just shared experiences with the hope that you will find your place in life. I loved how he stated that when you look up to people and place them on a pedestal, be prepared for them to fall. Humans are just that humans and they will make mistakes and show just how human they are. This is not someone trying to something great, this is a person reaching out to show others how to find peace and God Grace. Say what you will about him, but admire the fact that he lives his faith to the best of his ability. Great Job.

Personal Response: I personally feel like this book is very powerful and inspirational. The theme itself talks about faith and god. When Tebow was stuck mentally after he was let loose from his former football team, he had learned to overcome certain obstacles that were blocking his goal for reaching Quarterback one day. I think its an overall powerful message being let out. The simple fact to not give up when you are at your lowest because you never know what great can come out of something so rough.

Plot: Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow passionately shares glimpses of his journey staying grounded in the face of disappointment, criticism, and intense media scrutiny. Tebow portrays religion in many aspects. Following an exceptional college football career with the Florida Gators and a promising playoff run with the Denver Broncos, Tebow was traded to the New York Jets. He was released after one season of playing with them. While moving forward, Tebow shows the importance of having faith when facing hard times.

Recommendations: I recommend this book to anyone who is going through something; whether that be grief, heartbreak, or someone who is simply losing their faith. I also recommend this book to young adults or teenagers. If you do not believe in god or overall don’t care for religion, I do not recommend this novel to you.

I purchased this book from Amazon to #buddyread with my friend Kayla. All opinions are my own. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Shaken by Tim Tebow. I have always been a Tim Tebow fan from the moment he was a Florida Gator to the day he was cut from the NFL and even when he played college ball I made a remark to my children and said, "The world is not ready for what Tebow represents." My kids told me I was crazy, they said Mom he will make it he's a great ball player.  Turns out he went to the NFL kept as low a profile as possible, but it wasn't in the cards. While the rest of the world criticized him or poked fun Tim really struggled with what he wanted to do. Turns out God's plans were different for Tim and it took a lot of emotional struggle, family support, and a little bit of faith for Tim to see there was a bigger picture. In this book he walks through memories that will make you smile, bring tears to your eyes, and make your heart swell all at the same time. While Tim's dreams were twisted around his Faith was never a question he knew there was a plan even if it wasn't what he dreamed, and he helps the reader remember to look for that too. This book has lots of motivational sayings and stories that will help you get back to your faith with God. It is easy to think your life is supposed to go one way and when it doesn't get upset. The problem is that we usually get mad at God because we think we know better than He does. Tim Tebow reminds us, it is okay to get mad, but know that God is always on our side. I also read the devotional of this on YouVersion and watched the videos on RightNow Media. I think the book was the best. It had the heart that the videos on RNM were missing. I think my favorite part of this book was hearing Tim describe the different ways he has made a difference in people's lives. He hasn't let fame or money distract from his main purpose, following God and showing His light to people. I listened to this book and read the ebook. I would recommend either one but I think I preferred the audiobook myself. (I just wish it had been Tim reading it. I always prefer when the author reads the book-especially when they are comfortable with speaking on camera)

This book has become really dear to me as it was the last book my Pape gave to be before he passed earlier this year. Putting that aside the meaning behind the book is great. Knowing a bit about Tim Tebow helped me get through this since he talks a lot about his sports life: but then he takes it one step further. He talks about how he dealt with all of his problems and he talked about how they just kept stacking up. He found out the only way he was able to deal with it was with God. He quoted the bible when he said walk by faith and not by sight. Your sights will deceive you like it did to him and he said he wrote the book to help people get though times like the ones he was in. He didn't just get though his problem either. He was able to keep who he was and who he wanted to be. If you need a book that is very encouraging and you are in a time of need like I was I highly recommend this book.

I saw Tim Tebow interviewed on the Harry show. I didn't know much about "Timmy", even though he was a Bronco (and I LOVE the Broncos), but he was so impressive and likable and did so good at Harry's Toast Toss, that I wanted to read his new book.

This book is meant to be encouragement for anyone struggling in life and feeling as if their world is shaken by the multitude of problems we face. It's a fabulous testament and witness to God and Jesus Christ. He's not preachy or braggy or shoving his beliefs on readers...which would be really easy to do. It's a great book to read as a reminder that God is good, and God does love us all and has a plan for each and every one of us.

I found this book to be very motivating and encouraging.

I like Tim Tebow. He seems like a nice guy. But I had a hard time with this book. I think my biggest issue is that the author talks about how to overcome things, when losing his job is one of the biggest obstacles he's had to overcome. I consider him very lucky for that, and I know that losing a job can be devastating and make life really difficult. But he writes as if it almost ended his world, and I feel like there is so much worse going on. He does discuss how much he helps others and I think that's great. Again, he seems like a great guy. But I don't think the book did for me what it should. It also read like maybe it would be best for a teen or a young adult.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
