Quiet seventeen-year-old Elizabeth Parker is looking forward to another mellow summer with her goofy relatives: sun tanning at the beach and staying out of trouble. Which is why the thought of her younger cousin participating in what is, clearly, a setup disguised as an initiation, worries her to the point of intervention.
One that backfires … big time …
Mistaken for her cousin, Elizabeth finds herself transported to an abandoned plantation, a place deeply haunted with unresolved mystery and where horror reigns every summer between July 20 and August 13.
It is there, locked in the pitch dark, where she finds herself paired with the strange and mysterious Adam Hunt—an unexpected trespasser with his own agenda. Together, they find a list of instructions—follow the clues to various possessions in the house, store them in the backpack provided, and find the key that will grant escape.
Having snuck in to document the haunting, Adam offers to help her find the key so long as she helps him record paranormal activity along the way. But as they make their way through the house, they soon discover unexplained anomalies…
For the first time in the plantation's recorded history, the haunting deviates from its known cycle of events, thrusting Elizabeth and Adam in a series of perilous circumstances that ensue long after the night is over.
As the last day of the haunting draws nearer, and as forces beyond their control ignite their growing attraction, Elizabeth and Adam must work together to uncover the plantations mysterious past before its too late.
Or die trying.

Elizabeth has always been the shy, quiet cousin - the one who is bordering on becoming the type to be a spinster and agrophobic. That is until one day while holidaying with her cousin April , she is kidnapped and mistaken for her cousin. Elizabeth aka Lizzie finds herself locked in the old Jefferson Plantation which is said to be haunted along with a guy called Adam. The pair start to pick up clues in order to survive the night and find themselves the following day possessed of sorts. Turns out that for three weeks of each year , a curse is set in motion and the people of that generation in the bloodlines -descendants are possesed by the past - the people of 1905 when the incident took place. This time around Lizzie however is possessed by Josephine and Adam is Braden and of course the Callahans are their descendants. It doesn't make sense though as Lizzie has no lineage or ancestral link to Josephine or does she ? I had hoped that we would have read more into Lizzie's past as it was glanced upon but not really delved as deep as the rest of the cast which was a shame since she is a vital part of the story. As the book flashes back to the July/August of 1905 and to the present time , can Lizzie and Braden break the curse or will the past hold tight onto them and bring them to the year 1905 ? The way the book went I was hoping as it did look like it would be one book and have a conclusion, however the last page leaves the story hanging on a major cliffhanger and now readers we have to wait for Book #2 which maybe we might just get the chance to discover more about Lizzie's true background and who she really is ?
If you love Southern Gothic Novels and the Paranormal then check out Intertwined by Jenn Marie as you will not be disappointed with the twists and turns it presents.

Elizabeth Parker, or Liz, is a teenager who loves to spend her summers with her aunt and cousin April. Liz is quiet, responsible and she scares easily. The fact that April has a tarantula in her bedroom freaks Liz out every time. April is a daredevil. She has spent some time on a haunted plantation and was able to pick up a piece of paper. Nobody, until April, has ever been able to take something out of that plantation. When April gets an invitation for an initiation Liz immediately knows something is up.

April's initiation will take place at the haunted plantation. April needs to go inside and will be locked up until she finds the clues and the objects she needs to find. To achieve that she has to follow directions. After finding ten clues April will get a digital code that will unlock the front door. Liz thinks that this initiation is nothing more than a setup to get pieces outside the plantation, which is why she tries to prevent April from going. When the people who came up with this initiation mistake Liz for April, Liz finds herself locked up instead all of a sudden.

Adam has been living with his aunt ever since she got mental health problems. He takes care of her and works at the local bar. Adam is also inside of the plantation when Liz is locked up. He is trying to document everything that goes on there. Every summer between July 20th and August 13th the paranormal activity is at its highest and Adam wants to know more about it. Adam and Liz are both in for a scare when they find out the hauntings are not only residual, but seem to be capable of doing harm as well. Will they be able to get out in time before something horrible happens?

Liz is a great person. She goes out of her way to prevent her cousin from getting in trouble, also if this means getting herself harmed in the process. Even though she's easily afraid Liz shows remarkable strength when she has to. Both she and Adam are strong characters and Jenn Marie has done a great job giving their personalities a lot of depth. Adam and Liz are very different, but they make a good team when they work together.

I'm a big fan of shows like Ghost Adventures, Ghost Hunters and Ghost Hunters International. I'll admit I watch them all. If you like this kind of shows you should really pick up Intertwined. Jenn Marie has written a gripping and chilling story, which will give you your maximum scare. If you look at the picture of the haunted plantation you'll instantly understand why. I made the mistake to read this book at night. If you do the same, trust me, you'll be just as creeped out as I was. With many interesting twists and turns Intertwined kept me on the edge of my seat and I absolutely can't wait until the next book in this series comes out. Jenn Marie is an author I will definitely keep following.

I received a free copy for an honest review.

I have not read much of paranormal/ghost based stories. So it was a treat to go into a read without any expectations and have a an engaging read. It left me wanting more and trying to figure why I haven't read more of that genre.

The negative spirit and it's malevolence is portrayed with a morbid interest in this book. Though there are a few scenes which caused my breath to hitch, most of the story was based on the mysterious happenings and how they are resolved. The author has done a splendid job of managing the tale without causing any confusion. The alternate scenes of past and present were intriguing and gave much insight of the happenings. It was like the author was revealing the plot in shades and in layers. Kudos to the author for an interesting concept and its good delivery.

Adam and Lizzie were both strong characters. They have to be in order to go through what they went through. Lizzie, though comes as a timid person in the first scene, quickly changes into a strong person with the influence of Josephine's spirit. I don't know whether to take it as a positive or a negative. As for Adam, he made me vascillate between hating and loving him, similar to Lizzie's feelings.

The supporting cast has a varied set of characters. Everyone contributes to the overall plot. No one is unnecessary or in the wrong place. The nuances of each character is finely drafted and it adds to the enjoyable read.

The starting was quite simple and it gets interesting only at the near end of the Inititation. Then the real story starts. This makes for a mesmerising and an immersing read. The ending wasn't what I expected. I am kind of miffed. I can't wait though. I wish I had come across this author sooner. A splendid tale with the right amount of thrill and mystery!

My rating : 5/5

Extremely enjoyable YA paranormal story. I read the first part with the lights on as it was deliciously scary! The second part ventured more into the usual YA territory with the focus switching more to the romance aspect, but it was still very entertaining. The ending was spot on. Can't wait to read the sequel.

I received a free Kindle version from the author and I am voluntarily giving an honest review.

honestly I need the next book.. like right now. The ending eerie freaky but I need to know what happens next. Heck Adam and Elizabeth have been through to much and now that little tidbit teaser that is going to have me jonesing for the next at the end just is so unfair.

the book has eerie elements but also some dark ones. the 1905 story is a tragic love story that spills over into today due to curses and revenge. revenge that isn’t to much revenge but done out of love. Not wanting to lose the one you love and that you are responsible for what happens. Confused? It gets confusing at moments when you are trying to decipher if it is Elizabeth or the Josephine, Adam or Braden and Jack is just crazy no matter what year you are in. Crazy and deadly.

The story has you questioning the ghost stories you have heard in the past for this one takes it to a new level with a sad romance in both past and present intertwined. It is eloquently written and the way Jenn Marie intertwines the lives of Adam/Braden, Elizabeth/Josephine so intricately is amazing. The story is engrossing.

Here we have Adam who is the quiet one at school and he encounters Elizabeth when she is mistaken for her cousin and thrown into the Jefferson Plantation and the curse. It is Adam that helps her get out in tact but they both are affected and the curse begins. These two are the age of Braden and Josephine and their in a way to me reincarnations. They experience all the things Braden and Josephine does and their exploration of friendship and love mirrors Braden and Josephine as well. Yes Adam does keep some things from Elizabeth but for good reason.

Once they are out of the house is when things speed up and we get some wild moments. Their lives intertwine with the lives of Braden and Josephine from 1905. Meantime they are in danger from Jack and his family as they try to kill the curse. This duo works together to find out what happened to Josephine and Braden and while this occurs they learn about each other. Elizabeth has her doubts about their feelings because of how they are mirroring Josephine and Braden but I believe Adam. Their feelings are theirs and they are distinctly different from the ones that are inhabiting them. the moments in the house are surreal and freaky.

Adam is broody and quiet. He feels protective of Elizabeth and when with her we see a different side to him. We see a sweet, kind and loving side. The one we see he has towards his grandmother. The moments that bring Adam and Elizabeth close are intimate and sensual and their story is written in a delicate balance to not overwhelm you but also parallel Braden and Josephine so that you wonder where the line is. Elizabeth starts this story out as the uptight one and in the end turns into the rebellious and daring one. Adam turns into the one willing to sacrifice to keep Elizabeth safe even if it means losing her and all they have built. My favorite character besides adam is Milli. That lady is a goofball. A goof that has you smile. I also loved Patrick and how he helps adam and Elizabeth even if it puts him at risk.

this is the story of Adam and Elizabeth. How they are put in each other’s lives by a case of mistaken taking and him trying to help her through a haunted house. A moment that changes their worlds. the story where Adam and elizabeth become interwined with what occurred in 1905 and uncovering what happened on that fateful night where four people suddenly disappeared. the story of Adam and Elizabeth exploring a friendship and discovering things about themselves and each other. Where they fall in love and will do anything to keep each other safe. The creepy story of a curse that can destroy love and a family and how it drives people to do the unthinkable. How it has taken on a live of its own and has you wonder what will happen if the curse wins out and if they can’t break it?

the story is centralizing and intriguing. A different twist on ghost stories where the lines blur in reality and you are ensconced in the danger of the past that bleeds into the future and a tragic love story you hope wins out and doesn’t hurt the love of Adam and Elizabeth in the here and now. And the ending grrrr….need that next book.

I fell into Intertwined effortlessly. We got to meet two chalk-and-cheese cousins who were clearly very close and affectionate – then we vanished with Lizzie into the haunted house. Oh my, that was as creepy as all get-out – great writing; my heart rate was zipping up as Lizzie faced threat after threat.

Once Lizzie and Adam were back to (relative) safety, I found the pace became a bit uneven – and I found Lizzie a bit wet when she wasn’t facing evil spirits. She occasionally became rather a steroetypical YA heroine with lamentations of the type, “Oh, he shouldn’t have put himself into danger for me, it’s all my fault,” (like there was any choice at the time!).

I didn’t like the imbalance between assured, worldly Adam and insecure Lizzie. (As an aside, if authors could please stop with the ‘smirking’ – smirking is not a synonym for ‘smile’ – it is patronising, superior and irritating as heck. Adam did far too much of it for my liking). But then, just when I got cross with Lizzie for a lack of self-esteem (or with Adam for the smirking), something adorable would happen, like the twenty questions via text when Lizzie and Adam were in the same room but unable to talk.

And then the ending was superlative once more: tense, dramatic and pacey … right up until the – ARGH!!! – cliffhanger ending.

I hate cliffhangers! I understand the desire to leave your reader desperate for the next in the series, but finish the damn story already. I’d been through a lot with Adam and Lizzie and I felt I deserved a proper ending, not, “Oh no, there’s yet more peril and here it comes.” If nothing else, because it’s going to be next summer before the second in the series is out.

I loved parts of Intertwined, I disliked others. Overall this gets a 3 from me.

Disclosure: I got a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. That's what I've given it.

When Elizabeth Parker learns of her cousin April’s invitation; disguised as an initiation to spend the night in a haunted house she intervenes hoping to stop April from doing something that could get her hurt. Elizabeth has this brilliant plan that hopefully will keep April at home but that is not the case as she is mistaken for April and taken the haunted house and locked in.

Elizabeth soon learns that she is not in the house alone there is someone else in there with her; a guy Adam Hunt. For a few seconds I think she forgets exactly where she is when she gets lost in those big beautiful green eyes. Elizabeth learns that Adam is there to record the hauntings and if she will help him then he would help her find a way out.

I have not read many books if any quite like Intertwined but when I read the summary I thought this sounds very intriguing and mysterious. Even though I have not read many books like this I have watched a lot of movies about hauntings so I thought you know books are better than movies so I thought give it a try why not? I am so glad I did because the books are better than the movies always but I sure would love to see this one on the big screen.

Intertwined is filled with so many twists and turns it will draw you in to its lair and it will keep you on the edge of your seat until you turn one of those corners and then your slammed backwards. But that doesn’t stop you from flipping the pages so fast that you see smoke emerging from your kindle. If you love reading or watching movies about hauntings then you are going to love Intertwined I know I did and can’t wait for the next book to find out more about Elizabeth, Adam and April. Oh and what about Mills and Ben now there is another story.

I love love LOVE this book! It's got everything that keeps the pages of a young adult novel turning: a love story, paranormal activity, and a mystery to be solved. It's so wonderful to find a YA novel that is not littered with vampires or simply about a teenage girl with a crush. The characters are well developed, unique, and individualistic. I can't wait to follow them further in the next book of the series!

This wasn't at all what I expected. Honestly the cover is rather misleading, as this is really more of a gothic mystery than a ya fantasy romance, but I do understand the imagery better having read the entire tale. Although at times I was completely perplexed, it was quite intentional on the author's part and served as another way to immerse the reader in the warping of surroundings much like what you'd experience actually being in a haunted house. I nearly had my own anxiety attack this sucker was so intense at times- truly what you'd call a nail-biting experience. I definitely recommend this for older readers, say 17 and up as there is a bit of language that some might find unsavory for the younger folk. Doesn't bother me none, but of course I'm not everyone so there ya go. I would absolutely read more from this author- her style is very unique and engrossing.

I really loved this book, it was a journey into the past without actually having to detail with the complex and often controversial concept of time travel. It's been a while since I've had a good paranormal read and this was definitely one! I was fascinated by the concept and both loved the characters as well as the plot. It was well paced and managed to keep my attention throughout.
