Karen Gordon is an indie author who loves supporting strong and sexy women in fiction and in real life.
Born and raised in St. Charles, Missouri, she found her love of extraordinary stories about ordinary places by finding excitement in mundane suburbia. Although she currently writes romance and chick lit, you never know what she might do next. (You'll never find a woman-hating, bad-boy hero though.)
She currently lives with the loves of her life, three very cool geeky men and one perfect puppy, just outside of Memphis, TN.
I really enjoyed this book! Vivienne is a highly-organized control freak who has a crush (a 10-year crush to be exact) on Danny - a guy who has always been there to watch over and take care of her at the request of her father. Well, she’s had enough of that, she’s ready to take control and make him more than her caretaker. But will ‘Mr. Aloof’ Danny allow that to happen?
The author did an excellent job at creating likable characters and telling an interesting story that makes the reader want more. It’s a quick read that will suck you in and get you hooked. There is humor, there is steam, and enough drama to make it hard for you to put this book down.
I’ve read this author before and am a big fan. This book made me fall in love with her writing all over again. I am invested in these characters and their story and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series! Great job, Ms. Gordon!
**You can see this full review and more at Book Briefs: https://bookbriefs.net** I love Karen Gordon's books. Her writing is always solid, her characters are always so unique and interesting and as a character driven reader, I find everything I have read from her to be super engaging. Fearless Flying and the Vivienne Series is no different. I really enjoyed this book. Fearless Flying is the first book in a seven book series (and each book is coming out one month after the previous book- how is that for instant gratification!?). The series centers around the main character Vivienne. I adored Vivienne. I could see so many aspects of my personality in her, but I think that is part of her magic. I think tons of people will be able to see themselves in this introverted perfectionist that decides to switch things up in her life and take charge. Even if at first glance, that doesn't sound like you, you will be surprised at how very relate-able Vivienne is.
What I loved about Vivienne and Danny is that he is not some random guy that falls into her path on this new journey of hers. He is someone that has always been a good guy in her life, and that is always so much fun for me to read about. I love seeing the great friend become something more. It was really interesting watching Vivienne clash with what her personality wants her to do and what Danny needs. Watching Vivienne struggle with maintaining her independence and giving up some control here and there was really interesting to watch.
I read this book in one shot because I couldn't stop. There are no good stopping points in Fearless Flying! I kept finding myself having to read just one more page, then just one more chapter, and you know how that goes. I had to eat my dinner at 9 at night because I didn't realize it had gotten so late! I read through dinner, which is something crazy if you know me. I don't skip meals. haha
Fearless Flying is a great read. It has all the things I love in a good romance. It has excellent characters that you can't help but like and root for, it has great writing and it has a winning combination of humor, sexiness and realistic tension and drama. I can't wait to see what is going to happen with Vivienne next.
Debut novels often disappoint me. Especially contemporary romance novels. This was not the case for Fearless Flying. The story of the young, independent career woman Vivienne struggling with love (and death) in Savannah, Georgia is sweet yet sad. It made me do the two cliché things readers are supposed to do when we’re riveted: smile and cry.
The author does a fantastic job with the heroine, Vivienne. She is smart at work but naïve in love; a shared truth for most twentysomething career women with something to prove. Vivienne keeps chasing Danny, a co-worker, relentlessly and unapologetically; she convinces herself he’s the one, although she knows she can do much better. Something almost all women do at least once in our lives.
Vivienne’s work environment – the sales department at JetStream Aerospace – is atypical for a romance novel, and I loved it. The author describes the different sales guys uniquely (the DAL, the DAG and the MAH) and weaves these characters in the story very well.
The author doesn’t shy away from the use of profanity and sex. This made the story read/sound authentic.
Since Fearless Flying was so much better than I expected, not only do I want to read the entire Vivienne Series, I plan to recommend it to my friends. Well done!
Vivienne is an accomplished professional who seems to have everything going her way. Everything that is except for her love life. For the past ten years, she has had a crush on Danny. Well, she was only fifteen when they met and he is a bit older than her. He has always been a good friend and has always looked out for her.
Vivienne wants more than friendship from him and is determined to take things to the next level. Danny suddenly appears cold and distant and seems to have a hidden agenda. Poor Vivienne is angry and frustrated and enlists the help of her best friend, Dom to try to figure out Danny's mysterious actions.
The author does an amazing job of describing the emotions of the characters throughout the book! A big thanks to Karen Gordon for allowing me to preview her latest work! I thoroughly enjoyed this fun read and look forward to the next!
LOVED IT! This is the first book I have read by the author Karen Gordon. You have become a new author that I want to read. The author's writing style and structure of the book is awesome and smooth. She was able to provide a clear picture in my head of what emotions and actions each character is doing in the story. There isn't any extra blah blah blah sentences where you have to reread it to understand what is going on. The author is precise and clear. I also liked how the chapters were small. I only have a few minutes to read each day so small chapters are great. This book contains every emotion one can encounter and presented it in a well organized story. Continue to write and I look forward to finding the next book. I will be reading more from Karen.
Flying Fearless Vivienne is an accomplished professional but lacks the confidence she desires in her social life. She is fun and witty with her best friend but is somewhat at a disadvantage with her old high school man crush she can't seem to get over, Danny.
Danny is friends with her father, and he's left in charge to watch out for Vivey when her Dad remarries and moves away.
Tragedy brings Vivienne and Danny together but life has other plans for them.
This is the first book I've read from Karen Gordon but it won't be the last. I look forward to seeing where she takes this chick lit novella series.
Book Title: Fearless Flying Author: Karen Gordon Publication Date: 14th July, 2016
Vivienne Ramsey is fearless.
At work and in love she always gives 110%. There is no goal she can’t reach by sheer will and determination.
But life can surprise you, plans change, and all her over-thinking skills can’t bring back the man she loved. She needs a new plan, new dreams and the right people to help her (if she’ll let them).
She’s the uber-smart boss babe who climbs to the top of the private jet all-boys club in this innovative chick-lit series. Vivienne is every woman working to break the glass ceiling, balance work and home, and find a man who’s her equal.
My thoughts:
Vivienne is an interesting character she is so strong and capable in her work life but it is a completely different story in her personal life. I think because of this I instantly liked her and her personality. I would love to be half as organised as she is! Vivienne is determined to get her man and even though there are obstacles she still carries on. I loved the dynamic between Vivienne and Danny they had great chemistry which made this book even more entertaining.
The story moved at a quick pace and I finished the book in pretty much two sittings although it is a short story. The plot was straightforward and easy to read which made it really enjoyable. This book is the first in a series, I believe there will be seven books in total. I will definitely be interested in reading the next installment. The ending was a cliffhanger and I cant wait to find out what happens next!
Overall:
Fearless Flying was fun, flirty and entertaining!
Five stars from me!
Thank you to Karen Gordon who kindly sent me a copy to read & review. This is my honest opinion.
Fearless Flying introduces us to the quirky, fiercely independent and funny character, Vivienne. She's a super assistant extraordinaire (and honestly a tad bit super OCD) who's mastered organizing and keeping her boss and everyone else's life on task but faces her biggest challenge when she attempts to apply these same skills to win over her long time crush Danny.
This was my first read by Karen Gordon and undoubtedly will not be my last. I quickly finished this thanks to it's engaging plot and realistic likable characters. If the push/pull dynamic between Vivienne and Danny doesn't leave you wanting more, its the authors clearly purposeful cliffhanger ending.
Karen Gordon treated me to special preview of this latest work and a treat it definitely was! Fearless Flying is a hit and highly recommended if you're looking for your next good read!
I so enjoyed my lazy Saturday afternoon getting to know Vivienne and her ten year crush Danny, along with her bff Dom. Vivienne is the epitome of a type A, independent, get what she wants kind of girl. She has taken care of herself and everyone around her since she was a young girl and it works perfectly well in her professional life where she's kicking a** and taking names but Danny is different, he wants to be needed. It's all but impossible for Vivienne to relinquish her need to control everything (and I do mean everything). I highly recommend this book! I can't wait to see where everything goes with Vivienne and I'm rooting for her to get everything she wants in life and love!
Karen Gordon once again treats readers to a real, funny and heart-wrenching trip through her characters lives. This engaging story leaves you wanting more, which is good because there's lots more to come in her series! Fearless Flying highlights a very type A woman's struggle to survive in a world she can't control. Vivienne is very organized, smart and on-task in her job but obviously can't maintain that in her personal life. The story centers around her forever crush and their hit and miss relationship. I recommend this book to anyone and look forward to reading the rest of the series.
This book is a must read. The author's character development is stellar, and Gordon again delivers with Vivienne. It's a lesson in understanding "want versus need" and accepting that "what feels right is not always best" to which we can all relate. Watching Vivienne grow up is both exciting and heartbreaking. I really enjoyed peeking inside her independent, capable, confident shell as she confronts her weaknesses and insecurities. She must balance desire and responsibility in order to discover who she is and who she wants to be.
A well written, easy to read story which I basically couldn't put down. I read it in one afternoon/evening. This is the first book which I have had the pleasure to read by Karen Gordon and I enjoyed it immensely. I love the strong and determined character of Vivienne and the romance between her and the man she has sought after for a number of years is lovely. I must say however that I was hoping for a little more at the end of the book but, hey, this is the first in the series after all and I'm just going to have to wait for the next instalment. Bring on January 2017 I say! Great work Karen!
I received an ARC for my honest review. Karen has done it again! This book it totally captivating but this time you'll fall in love with Vivey and join her on her struggles through the book. I can't wait for the next one!
This tiny little book held much more in its pages than I expected.
I was easily hooked by Vivienne and Danny. They went through a hell of a lot during this books short timeline. I will definitely be picking up the next book in this series and can't wait to see where things go from here!
Thanks to Karen for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, also for reminding me to review the book because I am forgetful. This book is well worth a read, I very much enjoyed it!
The main character is Vivian; a very likeable and very realistic character who is a control freak who tries to anticipate all possibilities. She has had a crush on Danny but despite all of her planning he doesn't seem interested in the slightest. But when a mutual friend does somehow the two end up together. I've got to be honest, I didn't really invest in the couple I think that's because it seems at the begining that Danny fails to see how awesome Vivian is and that kind of put me off him.
There are a lot of secondary characters each of them adding to the storyline however the story was so focused on the two main characters that for me the secondary characters didn't really standout.
The storyline was greatly original and excellently written and the pacing was good although I wasn't so sure about the ending.
Vivienne is a smart, gutsy young woman who works for a private jet company. Her dad recently died, so she's grieving. And so is Danny, a mechanic for the company who was Dad's best friend and Vivienne's forever-crush. But Danny is a weird character for a romance. He's negative and mopey and constantly puts himself down. Every time he pushes Vivienne away, she redoubles her efforts. She practically has to force him to make love to her. Then he signs a contract to work for three years in the Middle East, tells her not to wait, she's hurt, and the novella ends. I'm like, wait--whut? Is it over?
Another reviewer referred to this book as a serial, as in, it's not a complete book, just an installment. That's how it felt to me, at the end, and I wish I'd known it ahead of time. Also, 20% of the book is teasers for other books.
Also, if you're in Palm Springs, there's no ocean to sit and gaze thoughtfully at. Might want to fix that.
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibraian – I Dig Good Books Where to begin with this review.. So, I really wanted to enjoy this book. Its blurb promised to be a great read, intriguing, and a little feisty. Sadly, I really disliked the main character of the story for the first half of the book, which made it really hard to enjoy the story. The way that she talked, portrayed herself, etc. really just grated on my last nerve. I really had some high hopes for her growing into a less annoying character as I read, and I was absolutely rewarded the more that I read the story, the much more likable of a character she became. The male lead character is absolutely loveable but infuriating at the same time. He is a hard headed character that seems to know all, and doesn’t like to listen to his heart. He has a history that seems to float around him consistently that he doesn’t seem to be able to let go. The writing style in this story is good. It was easy to read, while at times, maybe needed a little more attention to formatting the paragraphs. I think just a little more attention would help it flow just a little better. It wasn’t anything major but enough to catch my eye. Overall,it was a decent story. It wasn’t written horrible, it wasn’t lacking any important details or descriptions. It flowed well for the most part. This is just part one of several novella’s and definitely leaves you wanting book 2! It was a pretty fun read.
*A Copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
Viv frustrates me with how stuck on Danny she is. Unfortunately I'm not able to say it isn't realistic since I have watched a few ladies behave in the same way. This is all written from Vivs point of view and I am already moving on to part two so I can see where this goes.
Fun, sex, and life lessons all rolled into one concise book. I really enjoyed this novella. It has just enough sass and an interesting storyline. The character of Vivienne is someone I would like to know myself. I lusted with her over Danny, cried over her father’s death, and cringed at some of her OCD ways. But I am hooked and I have already moved on to book 2- Hi-Jack. I can’t wait to continue Viv’s trek through life. Recommended
This is the first book in the Vivian series by Karen Gordon. If you like strong independent women this book is for you. I found it to be a fun, quick, easy read and I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
Fearless Flying by Karen Gordon is an entertaining novella. The book and series are about Vivienne Ramsey, a spunky and super-organized young woman. Vivienne is the executive assistant to the lead salesman at JetStream Aerospace, a private jet company. She works very hard and is compensated well for her efforts. She manages her boss's personal and professional life with spot-on accuracy, while lusting after Danny, her father's much younger best friend. Danny works for JetStream as well. When Vivienne and Danny finally sleep together, there are fireworks, however, their future is almost impossible to predict.
This is the first of seven installments in The Vivienne Series. The second book was released in January and I can't wait to read it. Vivienne and Danny are a unique couple and their time together is exciting, sad, and seductive. I found Vivienne's stepmother, and Vivienne's best friend Dom, to be very likeable and genuine characters. If you enjoy books about independent women with hearts of gold, then this short story is for you.
Complimentary copy provided by the author and Xpresso Book Tours.
Very entertaining. I couldn't put it down. I want to be super organised like Vivienne. Her crush on Danny reminds me of a crush I had on a guy in high school. Although I did enjoy this book,I wanted more at the end. Felt like I was left hanging. Moving on to the next book... Pam James.
Shel: Fearless Flying is book one of a monthly serial, ending around the new year with book 7. This first book introduces us to Vivienne, her bestie, and her crush. We get to see Vivienne try her damnedest to control the world around her and while she does an amazing job of it at work, her personal life is a little bit of a mess and beyond her control--which must be maddening for her. It was equal parts funny, frustrating, and sad to see her struggling and adapting to how to manage situations and people who just couldn't do what she wanted, the way she wanted; it'll be interesting to see how she copes with the situation she finds herself in and to see what's up with the mysterious meeting she sets up on the very last page. Court: I thoughtth at Vivienne was a little OCD at first, and as you get to know her you see more and more of why she likes everything to have a plan. And to be honest, I can definitely relate to that side of her. Whether or not it is going to help her in her quest for love remains to be seen, though, and I had some frustration with how much faith she puts into the people she holds dear. You'll have to read it to see exactly what I'm talking about, but her expectations are high y'all.
Shel: This first book leaves you with less of a cliffhanger and more of a to be continued and we'll definitely be continuing; we're both very curious and have ideas about where this all could go. For such a short and quick read, Karen Gordon does a fine job of weaving in enough background and detail to feel like you know the characters and their wants and motivations; it'll be fun to see how these characters and possible plot lines will pan out over the course of the next books. Court: That too, well said Shel, because while we're dropped into her world we are quickly caught up in a nice way plot wise to find out who the players are, and how they all connect. I am sticking around at this point because she legit has the best, best friend ever. BEST! It was an enjoyable time, and I'd really like to see where it goes.
If you're looking for a girl boss heroine, a chick in charge, someone who represents all the smart women who are bringing their A game to work, then this is the book (and series) for you.
Vivienne Ramsey has used the fact that she is a quiet introvert to study the game at work and bring more to the table than anyone else. In book one she's already surpassed her own career goals. With only a high school diploma she's risen to the top of the pool of executive secretaries at JetStream Aerospace. Her boss sells private jets to the rich and famous worldwide, and he excels at it, but only with Vivienne's help. Together, they're a perfectly-synced selling machine.
If only Vivienne could find the same perfection in her love life. She's already picked out her ideal man and waited years for him to be available. The timing is finally right for her to complete her plan for a flawless life.
But fate must have missed her memo. Life isn't giving her lemons, it's lobbing them at her and Vivienne is left scrambling to find her recipe for lemonade.
Ok, I wrote it, but I still have to say that I love it!! And I know you will too.
This is the first book of seven in the series. Books 2-7 will be released one per month (except November and December '16) so you don't have to wait long to take this incredibly fun, exciting journey with Vivienne to her own unique happy ending.
Oh my. This story will suck you in and keep you up way too late. And don't read in public unless you have a heart of stone. It made me laugh, it made me cry and it made me want to toss a certain man on his ass. Vivienne is everything I love in a heroine. Feisty, a go-getter and organized. She cares deeply and isn't afraid to show it. Danny is damaged and reminds me of so many real life men I know. He wants to be a caretaker and struggles with asking for help. This is book 1 in a trilogy and I cannot wait to see where this story goes next. Well written, the characters are so relate-able you either feel like you know them or they are you. Grab this one, you won't regret it!
Fearless Flying is the perfect beach read - it's light yet still immensely entertaining! The story is engaging and you find yourself wanting to keep reading to see what happens next. Though it is a short story, I managed to finish the book in one or two sittings. This book is the first of a 7-part series and I look forward to reading about Vivienne's journey in the next installments.
Would highly recommend reading the book for a fun and quick beach read.
This is the first book by Ms Gordon that I have had the privilege to read. Fearless Flying introduces you to the funny, independent and shall we say a tad quirky character, Vivienne. This is one of those fun, enjoyable, quick reads that you just can not put down once you turn the first page. I really enjoyed this book and can not wait for the next in this series. To bad I have to wait til January. I Highly Recommend this book. Keep them coming Karen.
I enjoyed this short read more than I thought I would. Vivienne was an interesting character who is over organized and pining away for a man (Danny) for years who doesn't seem interested in her at all. After a personal tragedy, they get together and all is bliss, right....wrong. I don't know how many installments this book will be, but I am hooked and I hope Vivienne gets everything she wants!
