Ellie Asher’s life has been one challenge after another. When her father dies, she can’t bring herself to leave her two young half-sisters in the sole care of her neglectful stepmother. In an effort to look after her sisters, Ellie offers to join them for the summer in the idyllic town of Juniper Hollow as their nanny. Will Weymouth wants to put an end to his family's crusade to find him a politically suitable wife. It doesn't matter to them that he has no interest in joining the family 'business' and no interest in finding love. In Will's experience, love only leads to pain. A chance encounter awakens powerful, unwanted feelings in both of them. Can these two fragile hearts possibly find true love? Glass Hearts is the first book in the True Love's Kiss series, a fairy tale-inspired contemporary romance series where everyone gets a happily ever after.
Neve Cottrell is an author of contemporary romance novels. Long Way Home is the first book in her series about the residents of Mangrove Island. Neve began weaving tales as soon as she could talk, walking away with the coveted “Best Storyteller” award in preschool and she’s been writing ever since. When she’s not crafting sexy heartthrobs and happily-ever-afters, she can be found indulging her need for reality TV and wistfully flipping through home and garden magazines. Neve lives near the beach with her family.
. This is similar to a cinderella fairy tale, just add Nanny to the list of chores and a bunny slipper. However, it is not a totally clean and wholesome read.
Ellie's experience lead her through grief, struggle, and exploration of new feelings she had never experienced before. Her fierce protectiveness and love for her sisters guided her in a whole new direction, which changed her life forever.
I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know these people. Some you love and some you despise.
It was able to stand on its own and there was an HEA for the people that you connected with most.
Loved the story and how ellie took it upon herself to help her half sisters. She puts up with a ton of humiliation from her step mother to protect the half sisters. I also enjoyed Will and his persistence to stand up to his family. Looking forward to the next book.
Neve Cottrell is one of my go to authors and she didn't disappoint. Glass Hearts is the start of her new series, True Love's Kiss, and it was an enjoyable read. Having read all her books in the Mangrove Island series, I jumped at the chance to read and review her latest book.
Glass Hearts was not what I expected at all since it's a spoof of Cinderella. When a tragedy strikes Ellie along with her more than wicked stepmother and her two spoiled younger half sisters only Ellie seems to care that her father died with a cloud hanging over his head in more ways than one. While she's trying to come to grips with her loss, her stepmother, Sienna, is already looking for her next sugar daddy. She can't bear not to be wealthy any longer and she makes many disparaging remarks about her husband. Ellie knows her sisters need stability so she volunteers to be their nanny for the summer. Sienna throws in that she'll need to do all the housecleaning and cooking too in addition to looking after her daughters and that she won't be able to be paid. She also can't live in the big house since she's staff, not family, or so she tells everyone. Ellie doesn't know what she's in for and how bad it really will be but has always been mistreated by Sienna from the moment she came on the scene and then married her dad.
When they hightail it out of New York City to Juniper Hollow, the playground of the wealthy, Sienna is in her glory and accepts every invitation to every social event even if she embarrasses Ellie in the process. It doesn't help that Will's mom thinks she'd make Will a wonderful wife and help him in his political career which he has no interest in. Ellie's sisters at nine years old are wise beyond their years and already worried about their diet, calorie counting, their clothes, society and seem to know exactly what their mom is up to even if they don't really understand all of it. How they treat Ellie is a disgrace and she makes too many excuses for their bad behavior. When she meets Will, her neighbor, he's smitten immediately, and Ellie has no idea who he is. It was heartwarming to watch their attraction grow but heart wrenching to also see how he was treated by his family when he didn't follow all their demands.
Their elderly neighbor, Mrs. Harvey, is a gem and treats Ellie and her sisters well. She's very observant and pieces together what she's not told about Sienna and their situation. The characters all had a depth to them except for Sienna. Robbie, an old friend of Ellie's, is always looking out for her.
The story flowed effortlessly with a few twists and turns along with romance and love, loving, hate, fear, anger, cowardice, parties, nastiness, tears, secrets, betrayal, lies, trust, laughter and happiness . There was some closure and a happily ever after in the offing but enough loose ends that left me wanting more. I look forward to returning to this series and seeing where life takes Ellie and Will and the others!
