Spirelli Paranormal Investigations #1-3

Spirelli Paranormal Investigations: Episodes 1-3

Rate this book
Jack Spirelli, paranormal investigator, public debunker of paranormal frauds, and private fixer for the magic-using community has opened his doors.

Jack's in a crunch. Since he went pseudo-public with Spirelli Paranormal Investigations, his business has sky-rocketed. Debunking the scum who prey on vulnerable targets makes up half his business now. And the rest of his time? Jack's on speed dial with the Texas Lycan Pack, the Inter-Pack Policing Cooperative gives him an occasional ring, and anything that goes bump in the night might just call him with a job.

He needs an assistant, another investigator, and some additional muscle, but maybe the dragon who just walked in and applied will do for now.

This volume contains the first three episodes of Season One. Each is a complete stand-alone story.

These are more 3 short stories (the total of 260 pages includes a preview of episode 4). By book 3, you have a better feel for the characters and the world as both slowly unfurl across the stories. I’d almost stopped after Book 1, but by Book 3 consider them an easy very light read. There’s not major mystery or romance -things just happen in their investigations and you tag along.

If these were on Kindle Unlimited, I’d read the next book (episodes 4 - 6). Not rushing out to buy it though.

This was a little to simple minded for my taste. The plot follows what has become a cookiecutter formula for urban Fantasy...buddy investigators, one or both with supernatural abilities get involved in crimes involving the supernatural world.

I like that one of these is a dragon (nice change) but the mysteries are simplistic and without drama, nor are the characters engaging.

Not a bad book, well 3 books, but it felt like some information was missing. The story were short, interesting and the MC and his Dragon helper were well portrayed characters. I just wanted more. The story was just beginning when bam! They were over. Add a few more of these episodes and you would have a great book.

This was good. Three short stories about a paranormal investigation team composed of a human and a dragon.

The stories are interesting, unique and creative putting Spirelli and his new partner into some awkward and dangerous situations as they try to help clients with magical mayhem.

The vibe between Jack and Marin is fun. They both have a sarcastic sense of humour and plenty of kick-assery skills, plus they both have their own issues. It makes for an entertaining partnership and a good read for someone looking for quick reads.

Fun, quick and easy low stakes (for the most part) read.
Fast paced, maybe even a little too fast sometimes. Details in one episode would not exist that would be added in the next one about the previous episode and all it did was confuse me because no time was actually taken for such details before, so it made very little sense.
I'm not mad I read it though and I will go on with the next three episodes.

This reads more as three novellas in one rather than three books.
The plots are simple, characters seem to be under development, as is the world to some degree. (Yes, it’s set in the US, but the rules of the magical side of the world are definitely still under construction.)
There are also some typos in the edition I read.
Not a bad read, but definitely predictable, short, and not as engaging as I had hoped it would be.
Or that’s my interpretation today anyway.

Lightweight read. It actually has the feel of TV episodes oddly enough. I picked it up a while ago on sale and it’s sat on my kindle until I felt like reading a Dresden and wasn’t in the middle of one.

Definitely similar vein of Dresden files, Jack Spirelli has no magical ability himself which is odd for this genre. A human in the magical world with no explanation as to why.

Then, he’s joined by Marin, who is a young but powerful dragon, who really does all the work.

The character development is weak, but the “episodes” are short and entertaining enough. Only takes a few hours to read this book of three. I assumed when I picked them up that these were 3 full novels but that wasn’t the case.

I may read more of this if I ever see others go on sale.

Entertaining and humorous PI with a dragon sidekick.
Some things confused me, such as when the PI had been under mind control but defeated the controller. Then he complained that his dragon was being too loud after being injured. I expected there to be an explanation, but there was not.
A few typos toward the end when the author seemed to be in a rush to get it out the door: A repeated word, your instead of you're, plural with an apostrophe s, missing word, missing letter.

Fun

This was a fun read- it wasn't what I expected. I was disappointed by a couple of things but they were related to what I expected or wanted rather than the stories or writing. Please take my 3 stars with a grain of salt; you may not be as hard-headed as I, give the stories a chance, they are good fun.

This is a wonderful supernatural detective series.
Gives new meaning to the expression "hard to put down." Good for all ages.

2.5 Stars, mainly because the storylines and characters developed outside my reading preference.
MY RATING GUIDE: 1= dnf/What was that?; 2= Nope, NOT FOR ME; 3= Yes, I mostly enjoyed it; 4= I liked it a lot; 5= A favorite, it was great!
I haven’t read previous books by Ms Baray. (Contrary to the bookshelf above, there isn’t romance in these stories). I prefer to avoid anything leaning toward “dark” fantasy fiction - witches, vampires, demons, dark fae/dark angels, etc characters - in my reading. (The cover on my book hinted more toward a Mystery or action-adventure type storyline. Rather, I discovered the direction of these tales/Episodes stepped outside my personal preference. With different 2ndary characters and slightly different storylines, I might have enjoyed this collection as uncomplicated, decompressing, short stories - in the audio version - appropriate for my commuting drive to/from work, as I had intended).

SPIRELLI PARANORMAL INVESTIGATIONS, Episodes 1-3 by Kate Baray features Jack Spirelli, a human paranormal investigator located in Austin, TX. While Jack has been known for debunking paranormal frauds, he only recently opened The Junk Shop, a cover for his new “real” business, Spirelli Paranormal Investigations. SPI solves problems and difficulties for persons of true paranormal nature.

“THE DISAPPEARING CLIENT” begins with Jack/MMC hiring Marin/FMC a tall, red haired, green eyed woman as his new shop and business assistant. She’s a dragon and claims she has both excellent fighting skills and an ability to locate traces of nearby magic. As a bonus, her dad is a known powerful dragon clan leader. Jack and Marin’s first case involves locating a man’s missing earth witch wife in Miersburg, LO. Jack and Marin head out to solve the case, quickly discovering their new paranormal investigative business needs a few kinks ironed out before it runs smoothly.

“THE FORGOTTEN MEMORIES”, Episode 2 begins 1 week after the official opening of Spirelli Paranormal Investigation agency. A young woman walks into Jack’s Junk Shop and requests him to check out the “supposed” psychic her mother has been consulting since the death of her husband. The daughter expects fraud and/or a scam is being perpetrated by the psychic. But Jack and Marin discover the situation is actually much more serious.

“THE FLEEING WITCH,” Episode 3. Jack and Marin are asked to assist a “mostly harmless witch” to escape out of the country, beginning a frantic chase in airplanes, trains, and automobiles away from the coven’s recapture team.

Readers who enjoy easy/uncomplicated, quick reading paranormal fiction with characters from all realms of the paranormal spectrum (vampires, demons, witches, shifters, dark fae) with no exclusions may enjoy this series more than I. Each Episode is short and could easily be read in 2hrs or so.

READER CAUTIONS -
VIOLENCE - PG-13. Characters are “zapped,” shot, and otherwise hit with curses and/or spells. Not particularly graphic, but for me there was a sense of “creepiness” or “darkness” in the tone.
PROFANITY - Yes. Considerable strong language by MMC.
SEXUAL SITUATIONS - None.

If you like paranormal creatures. If you like dangerous and mysterious situations to survive. Then this is the series for you.
I love Jack Spirelli. He's a quick witted guy who runs the Junk shop and Spirelli Paranormal Investigation company. He thinks he has a rat living in the shop, so in true Jack style, he puts down food for it - crab meat - and gives it an affectionate name; all of which tells us what type of guy he is.

He sends out the word, discreetly, that he is looking for an assistant for his paranormal company.
In no time at all a young lady comes into his junk shop, without tripping any of the magical wards Jack had placed on the doorway to the shop. It turns out that she is a purely magical being, who is both a woman and a dragon at the same time! He decides to take her on as his new assistant and their
first case together is that of a missing witch. Creepy stuff starts to happen. Thrills and spills and unexpected stuff all start to occur and the new assistant, Marin, gets a good initiation into the business of paranormal investigation.

Each case has its own drama. They are stand alone stories but if you read them sequentially you will see that there is a subplot going on which runs through each episode.

I loved this book because of its unusual characters and clever twists and turns.
The plots are good fun to read and the humour and snarky one liners are great reading.

Each case keeps your attention right to the end. Each story slowly reveals a little bit more about Jack and Marin's past lives, and about the world of the mundanes - those without magic skills - and the magical creatures who share their world. There is more to the magical world than Jack could ever have imagined.

These stories will leave you wanting more. I found myself utterly enchanted by each tale and I think I need my next book of Spirelli Paranormal Investigations as soon as possible! Thank goodness for the next book of the same name - episodes 4-6. What would I do without them to read?

This is a series of three episodes of a interesting paranormal mystery/adventure.

Episode one.

This is a wonderful, fun and quirky paranormal mystery that is full of unique characters. The characters are full of personality complete with strengths and weaknesses that draw you in to see what would happen. The storyline flows quickly and smoothly and is filled with surprises and activity. The character interaction is witty and interesting. I really enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more stories from this series.

Episode two.

People are losing memories, specific memories. SPI is asked to investigate.

This is an unique episode from Spirelli Paranormal Investigation series. I enjoyed this story which is full of well crafted characters in an interesting situation. The interaction between the two members of the team is witty and interesting. The storyline flows quickly and smoothly and is filled with with surprises, unusual paranormal creatures. The mystery captures your interest and is engaging until the end. I think if you like short paranormal stories that are well crafted and interesting. I look forward to reading episode three.

Episode three.

Jack and his assistant Marin, a dragon, are tasked wth a witch who was fleeing her evil covenant. They find it a lot tougher than they first thought.

This is the third episode in the Spirelli Paranormal Investigations series. This is a great story with non stop action, and unique magical spells that hold your interest until the completion. The characters are well developed, full of personality complete with strengths and weaknesses. The attempt to help the fleeing witch, was a twist on most witch stories. I loved the witty banter between the various characters. The storyline was great, flowing quick and smooth. The overall effect is a fun, interesting paranormal series. I look f

Three books about Jack Spirelli, officially owner of a junk shop, which is a camouflage for his paranormal investigations.
Book 1, The Disappearing Client: Jack needs an assistant for both the shop and his investigations, and hires Marin, a young dragon. Their first case is a client gone missing, and when Marin tries to find out the sort of magic surrounding it, she suddenly disappears, too. Jack will need the - somewhat unwilling - help of his paranormal European police friend to find out what happened, and hopefully save both client and assistant.
Book 2, The Forgotten Memories: Jack and Marin are hired by a daughter who fears her mother is being swindled by a charlatan pretending to talk to beloved deceased family members. Sounds like a straightforward simple case, but is everything but when Jack and Marin find out what they have to fight.
Book 3, The Fleeing Witch: Sylvia, a Coven Witch, asks Jack and Marin for help in leaving her Coven - who are deadly intent of keeping her inside, literally. It needs all Jack's and Marin's knowledge, and that of their friends (including a healer) to sort this problem.
I loved this! Great stories, nice quirky characters, good plots and great storytelling. The more Marin and Jack work together, the blurrier the lines became for me on who was the boss, and who the assistant. Marin's no-nonsense attitude, and Jack's somewhat far-fetched plans make for a lot of bickering between them, much to the amusement of the reader.
The only fault in my opinion was that the stories were way too short - not only because I liked them, but also because more "fleshing out", more details of what exactly they planned and prepared, would have added to the stories.
Still loved them and will get more!

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to the audible version of this. Roberto Scarlato has a lovely voice!

This volume contains three episodes, each of which is a complete stand-alone short story.

If you love Jim Butcher or Bendict Jacka then you’ll love Kate Baray. Baray has created a wonderful character in Jack Spirelli, a human paranormal investigator and in his recently hired sidekick Marin, the dragon shifter.

Between them they face out of this world threats from ghosts, dragons, witches, and whatever other magical creatures Baray can come up with or you can think of. Jack goes public with his investigation business, seeing as his junk shop isn’t making him much money. The relationship with the snarky dragon is great, and the partnership evolves over the these first three stories.

Note there are more episodes, which is great! and I think I might just have to go and download them. Kate Baray has a great sense of humour and I loved her writing.

Jack Spirelli opens a shop to investigate problems that people are having with magical beings . He is an ordinary human with contacts in the magical world but what he needs is a magical partner. He puts out the word that he is looking for an assistant to work with him. Enter, Marin who happens to be a dragon female. They start off in a bit of a clash and tend to argue , but they work well together and she drives them to various locations where they are needed. Witches and other magical beings abound in a non magical world creating chaos in both worlds. Enter Spirelli Paranormal Investigations. The cases are often dangerous and challenging but they learn how to assist each other in battles and learn that each has magical expertise to assist in the investigations! An interesting read!

Jack Spirelli runs The Junk Yard, a bric-à-brac shop and front for Spirelli Paranormal Investigations. In need of a partner, which comes in the form of a dragon, Marin, Jack takes on a variety of supernatural cases. This book details three of them (a missing witch, a golem and a witch related to the first, fleeing her coven) in short, mostly stand alone stories.

It is an easy read, but somehow felt like reading fan fiction rather than a novel. Entertaining enough, but I won’t be reading anymore from this series. 3 stars

Supernatural detectives was a genre I had usually avoided. Along with shape shifters; although Marin taught me dragons aren't shape shifters. In a way I didn't feel any more stupid then Jack.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Each of the three episodes were stand alone. A character or two made cameo appearances. References to a previous case were subtle and ingeniously explained.

I would completely recommend this book and I intend to read other books by this author.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review
This was a quick, humorous, delightful read about a paranormal investigative company that is comprised of a human and a dragon. The cases that they take, situations that they get involved in, and the creatures that they face make up the content of the book. The characters are well written, situations thought out, and the resolutions that they come up with are believable

Who is this guy?

Need to re-read the sleeve. Thought he was a magician/wizard/warlock. He did not do a single magical thing apart from talking about a warded shop, magic glasses and a ring that identified magic. On top of that he is a real ass hat. The “banter” turned into him being a self centered snarky ass after a while; did not like it. Liked Marin but wtf keeps her around? Not reading more to find out.

Wonderful SPI Paranormal Detective Series

I LOVED this series... Felt like I was right there with them... Soooo disappointed when the 3rd book ended... (I don't have 4-6 yet) Great characters, descriptions and locations... Had me laughing out loud in a lot of places... Would recommend to everyone except that don't like the few swear words in the stories... 5 Stars and A+++ from me... 😄

Good magic episodes

This book is written as though magic is normal and almost expected. The character of a dragon is well done, and combines both human and dragon in one physical form. The characters are very real and well thought out. The series is so well written and believable that the series could go on for a long time.

This is a great series. The two main characters Jack and Marin are so much fun and have a great relationship and the stories are so funny. I really like how long the stories are and that they tell the story, without a lot of extra unnecessary information. After the first story I was hooked and have been unable to put these books down. I highly recommend!

A fun romp through paranormal mysteries

Jack and Mira are great, the book doesn't take itself too seriously, nobody gets hurt, but everyone has fun. The books are short. Three episodes was a decent read. They are well written and edited, apart from one jarring typo when 'more' was misspelled.

This was exactly what it said it was. Easy to read / listen to (switched between both and I have to say the audio version is handy but I definitely preferred the book for this one. Not the best narrator I've listened to tbh.) and entertaining enough stories. Just what I was in the mood for. I enjoyed these.
