This was a very interesting premise, particularly as there were aspects about Al's time as a POW which needed clarifying. I believe this references a particular episode and the story suffers a bit because I've not seen it. However, there's quite a bit of intrigue about what happened in Vietnam that keeps the story moving on. It was a little frustrating in that both the future and past Al were not very forthcoming as to what went on, details that were slowly eked out during the story. Finally the truth is revealed with a worthwhile payoff and a satisfying ending. A good character piece for fans of Al Calavicci.
Another good Quantum Leap book. Like many of the others it takes half the book to setup the story. The last half moves far more quickly and for me, emotionally. It generally revolves around a journalist seeking to redress an injustice and Vietnam MIAs; this along with (most) people trying to do the “right thing”. Specifically Sam leaps into the Doctor assessing Al Calavicci, who returns from Vietnam facing accusations of treason.
Very well written and heartbreaking. Expecially if you come to love the character of Al Calavicci as I did. I was hoping for something a little different, maybe, but still.. I wish someone will write all his life story one day.
