This was incredible! The author provided rich descriptions of the historical contexts of each year from 1921 to 2012; insights into the artists and subjects of the winning pieces and also many prominent artworks that did not win; and the many and varied controversies that have helped shape the award over the years. The pictures are beautifully reproduced and the author's style is relaxed and friendly. You develop an affection for the award and the cast of characters involved in its long history. I can't wait to get to Sydney again to see the next installment!

A very interesting read, both about Mr Archibald himself and about the paintings and judges' decisions.
