Saving Robor
By J.A. Essen
A 3.5 star review by Kristie K.
There is something magical about joining the world of the fae, of leaving reality behind and walking through a completely different world. Saving Robor is the second installment in this series, and is a pretty well written follow up to Perilous Love. I am a huge fan of science fiction, paranormal, and other-worldly escapes of the written and visual variety. J.A Essen has done a good job of creating a world that you can lose yourself in, a place you can escape from the dredges of reality. Saving Robor takes us to where Perilous Love left off, but weaves the tale of the next generation. Namely, Edana and Faudron’s son Ainion, and Taranis and Breacca’s daughter Aluna. The battle for peace between the elves and the humans has been long, and arduous. Factions of elves that are set in the old ways, and believe that the two races should not mix have built villages of their own and delve into dark magic. When this dark magic begins to threaten the lives of both elves and humans, action must be taken.
I truly enjoyed the storyline and characters in Saving Robor. Mr. Essen has very successfully created a world and characters that I found relatable, fun, and likable. Though I did enjoy the story, and loved each of the characters, I did find myself slightly disappointed in the end. I can say without a doubt that the writing is good, and Mr. Essen is incredibly skilled in both creating and delivering the essence of a story that will peak a readers attention. Unfortunately, I personally had a hard time following the story in places. There were gaps in the storyline that I had a hard time filling in for myself, and places where detail and description could have been improved to help bring me into the story and keep me there. I loved the plot, I loved the characters, but in the end I wanted MORE. I won’t stop following Mr. Essen, or his books. I love the creativity, and the individuality he brings with his stories. I believe that with each book he writes he will improve, and the worlds he creates will be the things of legend.
