Things go from bad to worse when he discovers his recent hookup is his newfound sister’s brother-in-law.

Drew Sinclair never expected to see Justin after their night at the club or to discover their family connection. If anyone found out, it would give Drew’s brother another reason to hate him. 'Test Drive' is the third installment in Riley Hart’s series entitled ‘Crossroads’ and trust me when I say it was as good as the previous ones. Once again this author delivered a fantastic, unputdownable tale about love, family, friendship that I really liked. Unlike its predecessors, this installment was more emotional, which I really enjoyed. While it wasn’t as sexy, it was a very sweet and lovely tale that really warmed my heart.

“Love isn’t something you plan, love is something that happens slowly, in small doses—something someone says once, something they do, the way they treat you, the way they make you feel—all those little moments and then…boom, you’re just there. You’ve fallen…”

'Test Drive' is Justin’s story, character we met in the previous installment in the series. Justin’s life is shattered when he finds out his beloved father is dying from cancer. On top of that, he also finds out his old man lied to him his entire life, having a whole family that Justin never knew about. Justin is angry, confused and he fears his “new” siblings, (brother and sister) will not accept him when they will they find out about his existence or worse, hate him because their father left them to raise him. Loving his father very much Justin leaves his home in NC, his job, his schooling and also his mom to move with his dad in Virginia to be together with his siblings. Justin likes his new family, but he feels he doesn’t belong. He is angry and maybe a little jealous as well and all he wants is to forget that his life has become a mess in such a short period of time.

In a bar, Justin hooks up with a stranger, being sure he will never see him again, but the next day he comes face to face with this stranger at a family gathering. The stranger is none other than the brother of his new sister’s husband. Justin doesn’t need any new complication, so he really feels bad for hooking up with Drew.

“They were playing with fire. He already felt the singe, but damned if he didn’t want the spark to ignite brighter. If he didn’t want to go up in flames with this man. “

Drew had always known he was bi, but he didn’t want to do anything about it, until Justin flirted with him in the club. Drew always felt isolated from his family. His relationship with his brother is tense, so when he finds out who Justin is, he is more than shocked and frustrated. He doesn’t want his relationship with his brother to get worse, so he knows is best for him to stay away from the other man. But there’s something about Justin that draws him in and as more time they spend together, the more he wants to know everything about him. They start a tentative friendship that slowly, but surely becomes so much more for both of them. But what will happen when Justin will have to go back in NC?

“I want to be there with you. I want to be by your side. I want to be the one who gives you what you need.”

I really enjoyed this one. In some way this one was my favorite book in the series so far. I loved the emotional aspect. These two characters' story was equally heart-wrenching and heart-breaking. This hurt/comfort story was well written and I loved how the emotion and the steam were balanced. I liked both main characters and I liked they portrayal. Justin was a genuinely good man. Even if he was hurt by his father’s actions and lies he accepted to go with him in Virginia. The sacrifices he does for his dad made me really like him and admired him. He was funny, sexy and confident with Drew as the story progressed and with every chapter I liked him more and more, but the one who stole the show for me was Drew.

Drew was pure and simple wonderful. The way he was with Justin from the beginning was really heartwarming. He was so understanding, compassionate and caring with the other man and he always knew what to say and what to do for the other man to forget just a little about the whole drama in his life. I also loved how easily he accepted his sexuality. There was no drama regarding this aspect of the story which I really loved.

I liked how their relationship progressed. From the tentative friendship to something more everything was done really well. These two guys were sweet together, but they were sexy as well. The steam aspect was fantastically done. The sexy scenes between them were sizzling hot and I have to say I loved their tenderness between them. They were really good for each other and I liked the fact there was no drama or miscommunication between them as the story unfolded.

All in all, 'Test Drive' was a great addition to the series. A perfect blend of hurt/comfort, steam and just a little bit of humor, this installment will really make you feel and for sure fall in love with the two protagonists.

Test Drive is book three in the Crossroads series by Riley Hart. Wow! Wow! Wow! What a beautiful book. Trigger warning: This deals with the death of a parent of one of the main characters. But it was so beautifully written. So beautifully dealt with. I adored this book! You can technically read this as a stand alone but the characters from the previous two books play a big part in this one so I feel like your enjoyment would be increased if you have read them.

Justin Evanson has turned his life upside down. He lives in North Carolina, owns a home there. But when he found out his father had cancer, and had also hid the fact that he had two other children in Virginia that he abandoned and needed to make things right with, Justin went with him to take care of him and to meet the siblings he never knew he had. He doesn’t know where he belongs in this new family. He is dealing with anger towards his dad but also the need to be with him and care for him during the time he has left. He is a boiling over pot of emotions. All he was doing was trying to escape when he went to the bar and saw the gorgeous man sitting there. Their quick hook up should have been the only time he ever saw him. Until he walked into a family event and realized he was the brother in law of his brother’s new wife.

Drew Sinclair has just recently decided to begin exploring his bi-sexualality. He always knew he was bi but ignored it. When he was approached in the bar by the gorgeous man with eyes filled with pain, he couldn’t look away. It was supposed to be one time. Until they ran into each other again at a birthday party.

These two! They both had so much going on. Justin’s life was in turmoil. And Drew was dealing with his own family issues as well. But somehow, Drew always seemed to know just what Justin needed. He became the lifeline, the support that Justin turned to. As the days and weeks progressed, their feelings grew. Even knowing that when this was all over, Justin had a life he needed to return to. But they decided to live in the moment, one day at a time and accept what they had. Not to worry about what came in the future.

“Life was messy. It was ugly and painful and hurtful, but sometimes beautiful things were born out of tragedy.”

I usually shy away from books that I think are going to be heavy. But I am already so in love with these characters as I’ve progressed through this series. My love for Bryce and Nick from the first book is still going strong. Nick is still proving in this book what a wonderful and kind man he is. And Landon and Rod from book two are so adorable. They’re doing great and I loved seeing how strong they’ve become. Both of these couples provided such a wonderful example to Justin and Drew. Neither of them had ever been in love but seeing the love between the two couples showed them what they could have, if they let themselves.

This was a beautiful, lovely book that I am so glad I finally read. Now I’m ready for the last book in the series, Jumpstart, which I’ll be going straight in to. I can’t wait to get started.

I really liked this third installment in Riley Hart's Crossroads series. I loved Justin in book 2 (Landon & Rod's story) and was hoping to read about his HEA.

Justin is Landon's brother, staying in town so Larry, his terminally ill father, can make amends to the children he abandoned. Justin pushes his dad away yet can't stand to let him go. He's on an emotional rollercoaster of anger, jealousy, and guilt. Drew is the one thing keeping Justin from imploding.

Drew is Shanen's husband's younger brother (Shanen is Landon and Justin's sister). Unlike his more conservative brother, Drew has never fit his family's mold, dropping out of law school to open his own gym.

Drew is just what Justin needs: ready to explore his attraction to men, open with his feelings, and supportive. Drew wants everything with Justin, but Justin shies away from starting a relationship when he'll be leaving to go back to his real life in North Carolina.

Justin and Drew work so well together! I loved their chemistry, long talks, imaginary travels, and the shameless flirting.

This one isn't as sexy as the previous two books in the series, but Justin and Drew definitely burn up the sheets (and mirrors ... and walls).

Despite the heavy themes of death and grief, the book never sinks into melancholy, and there's almost no relationship angst.

I shed a few tears while reading about Landon and Justin's last motorcycle ride with their dad and the final goodbye scene. But I cheered when Justin finally realizes that home isn't a place; it's Drew. I loved the epilogue, although the last few sentences were a rather clumsy setup for book 4.

I noticed a few editing issues, as is typical of Riley Hart's stories, but they were minor enough that they didn't impede my enjoyment of this sweet story.

P.S. Test Drive really doesn't work well as a standalone; read book 2 before reading this one.

Test Drive by Riley Hart is everything that I love about reading romance novels. Justin and Drew's journey to happiness touched my heart.

 photo 4204248kxK5gjZ9_zpsaefxuqqi.gif

We have Justin, who has so much on his plate. A dying father, a brother, and sister he didn't know existed. Plus, putting his life on hold and relocating so that his father may have some closure. One night while trying to blow off some steam he meets Drew. Drew who feels isolated from his family. Both these feel alone and don't know where they fit with their loved ones. Little did they know that night how their paths would come to cross.

My highlights:

-Drew and Justin. What was there not to love about these guys? Selfless, caring, humorous, and sexy.
-Relationship development. I love the way it was built from this tentative friendship to something casual to this devoted love. Perfection!
-The secondary cast of characters. They complimented and enhanced the plot.
-The pace is smooth and flows nicely.
-The chemistry between Justin and Drew is piping hot! Steam is sizzling is this one, guys!
-The narration is told from a dual POV. Always a plus in my eyes.
-And the end- a happy ending with a teensy teaser of who's coming next! ;)

As far as any negatives- I got nothing. I loved everything about this book from beginning to end.

As far as this being book 3- can it be read alone? Technically yes. The other stories are great, though, and you'll find these characters in all the books so I wouldn't skip any.

All in all, this is a winner! This a beautiful story about loss, family, healing, and above all else love. I highly recommend it and think y'all should go 1-click yourself over to Amazon! I guarantee you won't regret it. 5+ Stars!

Yup, this one packed quite the punch!

Definitely more emotional then the other books in the series, which I really liked.

My heart broke for Justin and what he went through. My heart even broke a little for Drew.

Drew and Justin found themselves in somewhat similar situations, feeling like outsiders within their own families. And they bonded over that.

Loved the exploring that went on with Drew and him discovering his bi-sexual side with Justin. They were very hot together.

This was a really great addition to the series with two really great MCs.

I loved this SO much. I just adored Justin and Drew so much. Such great, solid guys. Ugh having to deal w all that family drama. My heart just wrenched for Justin. But their "getaways" were perfect and bless Drew for doing his best to put Justin first, even when he wanted to dive in.

And the sex. It was all so hot and I loved Drew's first time bottoming. It was just a great story with great guys. It was also nice to see all the other characters from the earlier Crossroads books.

Justin Evanson and Drew Sinclair meet a bar, both looking for a hook up to forget the heartache and devastation going on with their lives. Justin recently moved into town with his sick father, Larry, to help his father reconnect with son and daughter he left behind to be with Justin’s mother. Justin life is in a state of turmoil. Not only is he dealing with his dying father, he also doesn’t know how to act with Landon and Shanen, his step siblings, that until recently, he didn’t even know existed. After all, he is the outcast in this family. So, he just wants to forget, for a little while, and Drew Sinclair does exactly that.

Drew Sinclair, answers to no one. Although he knows his parents love him, he feels like an outcast because he was brave enough to drop out of law school and do what makes him happy.

What starts as a hook up, turns into something more. Drew is Justin’s support system and helps him deal with all that is going on. Drew has such patience and understanding with Justin, never pushing him. He understand his emotions are all over the place, so he is just there for him and wanting to take Justin’s pain away.

Test Drive is the third installment in the Crossroads series. I loved catching up with Bryce and Nick and also Landon and Rod. I am not sure if you could read Test Drive as a stand-alone. I suggest you read the first 2 books in the series first.

5 Take Me Away Stars! !!
This is an excellent book and perfect addition to "The Crossroads Series"

This story features Justin and Andrew (Drew) and we also get to see Nick & Bryce and Rod & Landon ... So hang on cause this is one hell of a test drive!!

Justin is a character we met in "Shifting Gears" he is Landon's half-brother and he has moved to Virginia with his dad in order to spend quality time with his dad, brother, and sister during his dads last days. Justin meets Drew during a bar hook-up then Drew Runs away no last names are exchanged, so imagine his shock when he goes to celebrate his sisters recent wedding and meets Andrew his sisters new brother in-law, the same man who ran out on him ... And so it begins.

Drew has always dated women however he has always known he is bi-sexual. He has decided it's time to explore his sexuality, after the brief rub and run in the bar - he is even more convinced he needs to be with a man. So when he sees the man from the bar at his brothers house, finds out that is his new sister-in-laws half-brother -- he doesn't care, he wants more with the man! The sooner, the better.

He wanted to fuck. To come. To lose his motherfucking mind with the man. And he knew Drew would make him lose it.

These two are very vocal and very hot together and Justin is an excellent "mentor" of sorts while Drew does his explorations of his sexuality, I mean of course it's no hardship for Justin and he is such a good teacher. Very patient. Very thorough. ;-) He is a self-proclaimed expert at certain areas and he loves to take Drew soaring:
To drive him crazy, make him soar, and then bring him back to earth. To pull him to the edge, only to retreat just so he could tease him into a frenzy again.

But is everything between Justin and Drew just sex? Can it be more when Justin lives in a different state and has a different life? When both of them decide to take it day by day things continue for a while status quo until Justin is faced with his worse nightmare and Drew wants to support him as more than a friend with benefits.

I’m tired of pretending I don’t know my feelings. I’m tired of skirting around them. I’m in love with you, Justin. I want to be there with you. I want to be by your side. I want to be the one who gives you what you need.”

need want love gif

I loved this book. I have to admit I connected with it on a personal note due to losing parents to lung cancer so I was able to connect to Justin and his feelings of everything happening so fast and being so unfair - I think Riley Hart did a great job of portraying those feelings as realistically as possible for a romance novel. Second, Justin and Drew there connection right from the start it went deeper than friendship, Justin was just too messed up to recognize it and then to afraid to consider more change in his life; I loved that Drew had an emotional connection to Justin and was able to comfort and support him as he went through the traumatic life event of losing a parent and their little trips together were so fun and just what Justin needed, Drew always knew what Justin needed.

So here is to Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella getting their Happily ever after with what started out as a test drive and became a permanent journey!

5 Stars!!

P.S. Can't wait for the Novella!! I am greedy and love these guys!!

This was a very sweet and emotional read.

This is Justin's book. This book can be read as a stand alone, but those who've read the previous book, will know Justin as Landons (book 2) newly discovered half brother.

Justin's father is dying from cancer, and if that isn't enough, he also found out his father his a whole family that he never knew about. Justin's father had a one night stand with his mother, which let to her pregnancy. Justins dad didn't find out until Justin was 8 years old. When he found out though, he left his other family behind, to be with Justin and his mom. Justin never knew his father left his other children to further raise him.

Now they are all together, to be with his dad for his last weeks...which makes for a pretty heartbreaking an akward situation. Justin's left his whole life behind to support his dad and to be there for him, while he also says goodbye to his other family. Justin is hurting and angry and to make matters worse, he feels like he doesn't belong. He doesn't know his new brother and sister and their mom, they are really close...and Justin is not a part of that.

 photo tumblr_ndjgcxau8j1tts3f4o1_500_zpsxu12iftk.gif

When trying to get drunk in a bar, he meets a hot guy, who he thinks will be able to take his mind of everything. They have a hot little encounter in a corner, but before things can heat up even more, his hook-up flees the scene.

Imagine his surprise when he comes face to face with the man at a family gathering. Turns out his hook-up is the brother of his new sisters husband. Justin feels like crap, because the last thing he needs is something else, for his new family to hate him about.

Drew has always known he was bi, but up until recently he never did anything about it. Now he can't stop thinking about the hot guy the made out with at the bar. He's shocked when he finds out the man in question is his sister in law's brother. Just what he doesn't need. Something to make the relationship with his brother even worse...

No matter how much these men know, that it's better to stay away from each other...they can't help the pull between them. They quickly become friends...and even more than that. Justin feels like he doesn't have anyone else and Drew soon becomes his everything.

 photo images 1_zpsojpghf0t.jpg

But what will happen when Justin's dad dies. Justin has a whole life somewere else....there relationship wasn't meant to last forever...

Out of the books in the series, this was the more emotional one. It was so sad to read everything Justin went through. This book was heavy on the hurt/comfort and low on angst. There isn't a lot of relationship drama, other than the fact that Justin lives somewere else. The steam was very nicely done, these two lit up the sheets. Drew might have been new at gay sex, but Justin was a excellent teacher !!

I really enjoyed it, but I have to say that I would have liked a bit more angst. This storyline was mostly about Justin's father dying and his newly discovered family. As adament as they were that they couln't be together, because of the family...their coming out as a couple fell flat for me. There wasn't much of a reaction and the relationship between Drew and his brother was mostly fixed within a page.

4 stars from me and I'm very curious about the next book :)

Alluring!!!

What a hypnotic plot, every page was so captivating, so intimate, so personal, I really loved the was not just the love in the romance but the family love, I was superb! The characters were amazing, the discovering, their feelings, the fear, the acceptance, everything done greatly! The intimate scenes were steamily hot, well written, rich in details, and then with the connections, just marvellous! I think I saw a continuity flaw, but it was so minor that it didn't affected the story, I had a really good time reading and listening this story! Congratulations to Riley Hart

I also have this book on audible, another spectacular acting from Sean Crisden, fully committed, I was engaged!! High praises to him!!!

Read my release day review atSinfully.

It’s been a while since I read a Riley Hart book, but I’m so glad I picked up Test Drive. This book really grabbed me and I enjoyed it the whole way through, in fact I enjoyed it so much that I immediately downloaded the other two books in the series. That being said, I obviously did not read the first two books before picking this third one up and while there was enough background information given for me to follow the story, I did find myself wondering about some minor details relating to Justin’s family that now, having read Shifting Gears (Book 2) afterwards, are all clear to me. They weren’t details that impacted the story in any major way, just background I was wondering about.

Justin is in emotional turmoil. Not only is the father he grew up idolizing dying, but he just discovered that same father who took such good care of him has another family, including two children, who he abandoned without looking back when he came to live with Justin and his mother 18 years ago. Justin left his life in North Carolina to accompany his father to Virginia so he can make peace with all his children before he dies. Meeting these new siblings under the current circumstances is hard enough, but Justin also struggles with misplaced guilt about having grown up with the father they lost and anger at his father for taking away his chance to have grown up knowing his brother and sister.

Needing to let off steam, Justin finds a club and has a hot hook-up with a man who immediately bolts afterwards. A week later, Justin couldn’t be more surprised when his recent club hookup turns out to be Drew, his newly found sister’s new brother in law. Sounds a bit confusing, but it’s really not.

Drew has known he was bisexual for a while, but is now just really exploring his attraction to men. He has never told his family, not because he thinks they would have a problem, but there’s never been a reason to bring it up and add one more thing to the list of reasons for his father and brother to be disappointed in him. Drew knows his family loves him, but he’s always been the black sheep, not following in his father’s footsteps the way his brother Jacob has. Jacob and Drew don’t get along and haven’t for a very long time. Drew knows that if Jacob ever finds out he hooked up with his wife’s brother, it would be very bad and his attempts to try to make amends with Jacob never go very well.

As you can tell, family is a big focus of this book. Riley Hart did a great job dealing with the many different dynamics in this touchy situation. I could feel Justin’s pain at feeling like an outsider among his father, his siblings and their mother, even though they were all doing their best to get along, as well his anger at his father and his jealousy as they all step in to help.

Justin also feels lonely and this is the one thing he has some control over. He is up front with Drew about the fact that whatever they do is only temporary as he plans to go back to his life in North Carolina after his father dies. Drew is happy to be there for Justin and to continue exploring his attraction to men and to Justin in particular. Keeping it quiet from Drew’s brother is a given, but as their friendship and feelings grow from just hooking up, it becomes impossible to hide their attraction.

Justin and Drew’s chemistry is smoking hot! This book is sexy as hell and between the dirty talk, their clandestine meet ups and Drew’s drive to experience everything with Justin, the steam factor just keeps rising. It’s not just sex though. The two are completely adorable together; their nicknames and banter had me laughing. They have great communication and Drew would do just about anything to help comfort Justin, even risk the last tenuous bits of his relationship with his brother.

While the subject matter could have dragged this into a depressing angst-ridden story, Test Drive is none of these things. All the concerns Justin has about his relationship with Drew are valid and the drama and eventual separation of the two men was not overly drawn out, but was necessary to the story and to round out Justin’s character growth.

Test Drive is a great mix of family drama, hurt/comfort, humor, dirty talk, hot sex and a sweet love story. How can I not give it 5 stars when I immediately downloaded the prior two books on finishing this one? There was nothing in this story that I didn’t like and I’m definitely not going to lose track of Riley Hart’s future books.

This story hit home for me on one particular level. Seeing a parent fight cancer is just about the most helpless and out of control you can feel as a child. No matter how old you are, or how old your parent is, seeing the degradation of someone who was so full of life is beyond my ability to describe.

But not Riley Hart's. She nails this so hard. Not only does she brilliantly show the reader of the tumultuous feelings that grip someone during that kind of difficult time, but she managed to not make it so front and center that it eclipsed the very sweet and very realistic love story.
“I came here because I somehow knew you’d get it. Nothing in Virginia feels like it’s mine— the house, the job, my family. My dad doesn’t even feel like he’s mine anymore. This friendship is the only thing that feels like it belongs to me.”

Justin is the fish out of water. He's left North Carolina, his mother, his job, his school, in order to come and care for his father while his father reconnects with the siblings that Justin never even knew he'd had.

When he connects with Drew, they give each other the peace, comfort, and love each was definitely not looking for, but come to depend on so much.
Justin gave him a small, teasing smile. “You like me.”
“I do,” he answered truthfully. What was the point in being anything other than honest? He liked everything he knew about Justin so far.

I love you
They talked and laughed and held each other, and he thought maybe he would never get tired of talking to this man.

sweet hand holding

I absolutely loved the chemistry between Justin and Drew. Their whole relationship gave me sweet feels.
Life was messy. It was ugly and painful and hurtful, but sometimes beautiful things were born out of tragedy.

This has been a great series so far, and Test Drive continues by being hot, sexy, surprisingly emotional, and sweet on top of it all.
“We’re never quite sure how love happens. Love isn’t something you plan, love is something that happens slowly, in small doses— something someone says once, something they do, the way they treat you, the way they make you feel—all those little moments and then… boom, you’re just there. You’ve fallen.”
He liked that. Love was in the small things that sometimes went unnoticed.

This was a win for me on many fronts.

What starts as a one-off between Drew and Justin, progresses to friends to something more, never losing the connection nor the heat, despite both their understandable reservations in pursing a relationship.

First you've got Justin, who's struggling so much to be supportive of his dying father, trying to find a place in his new found family, and battling a range of emotions that run from guilt and anger to grief and helplessness. Drew may be an outlet to vent frustrations on and to quell his loneliness, but Justin soon realizes there might be more to the man who lends support in and out of the bedroom.

Then you've got Drew, who's not without his own baggage. However through Justin's struggles, he comes into his own and mends some fences, as he realizes the importance of family. He also just so happens to be exploring his bisexual side for the first time, and Justin is conveniently an eager teacher to show him all the ways. Drew is inexplicably drawn to Justin and his complicated situation, and can't deny he doesn't want him only just for fun.

What made this so enjoyable, despite such heavy subject matter, was the banter between these guys - flirty, funny, intimate, with a little dirty thrown in. I really felt their evolution had natural, realistic progression, and I totally appreciated that the author showed how Drew and Justin fit so perfectly together with minimal drama.

Take this for what it was - exceptionally sexy with a lot of heart wrenching feels. I'm ready for the next book in this series. Bring it.

!!! * Heartwarming, hopeful, and hot ! * !!!
I love Riley Hart's series, and this is a perfectly thought out addition.
Justin is in town with his dying father to connect with unknown relatives.

Drew ...is a newly found brother-in-law, and owns a gym.

Justin ...student/construction worker,

feels like an outsider when coping with the new family members, and he and Drew become fast friends, then lovers. Drew is exploring his new bisexual tendencies, and Justin is happy to help.

While they are exploring, having super hot, steamy sex, armpit worship, etc., they become deeply, emotionally involved.

* I loved the way Justin explained to Drew how and why he liked men.*

Different events are taking place, family dynamics to explore, feelings about their father's cancer, their newly found siblings, inner conflicts with all the emotional turmoil for everyone.
Will Justin go back home after his father is gone? With the tremendous relationship Drew and Justin have, it is going to hurt to walk away.

I loved these fabulous characters, the banter, the name calling, and the realistic conversations. Exceptionally written by Riley Hart, this story is thoughtful, tender, informative, and realistic. It is so hard to put down. Each series tale can stand alone, but I'm glad I knew the other characters.
I highly recommend this M/M love fest.
Hint: Have tissues handy.
ENJOY !!!

I couldn't feel the connection between the MCs despite the similarities they had (I mean about their relationship with their family, the way they thought they were outsiders...) I expected some angst but so far nothing... these two were so good with each other.

"People don't plan falling in love. Maybe there's hope there, or the possibility, but it's not a plan."

I really do love this series. Just love it. And Drew and Justin were so perfect together, I can hardly stop smiling.

I felt so bad for Justin in the last book, because he just found out that his father, Larry, not only lied to him, pretty much his whole life, but also abandoned two other kids when he came to help raise Justin. I can't say I have a whole lot of respect for a parent that abandons their children. But when his dad discovered he had cancer, he comes clean because he wants to get to know his family again. To make amends for his many regrets. A family Justin didn't even know he had. So Justin is so out of his element here and barely holding together.

I can hardly blame Justin for his anger or his jealousy, but he keeps a tight hold on it and does not become an asshole to his father, or his newly discovered siblings. I so admired his fortitude. Justin up and left his home in North Carolina, a job and school, where he was studying to be a paramedic, to come to Virginia to help his father through the last months of his life. He is really a good man.

Drew, too, has some family issues. His family doesn't understand him, at all, and his brother Jacob doesn't even seem to try. Drew just doesn't fit the family mold and rather than following in his father's and brother's footsteps and practicing law (and in Drew's case, being miserable), Drew decides to forge his own path. He's traveled the world and now he owns a gym, which is really his passion. He loves it. He didn't expect that when he decides to explore his bi-side, that his club hookup would turn out to be his brother-in-law, but sometimes life is really interesting, that way.

Everyone should have such an interesting "so, how did you two meet?" story to tell! Things may have started a touch awkward, but Drew and Justin quickly overcome that and actually become friends, and soon after, lovers. Their story isn't full of angst - and it easily could have been. The angst in this story is all from the family dealing with the impending death of a father no one really knew and figuring out how they all fit together. So, there are a lot of family dynamics in play, but thankfully, they don't overshadow the story.

And Drew is exactly what Justin needs. A friend, a lover, someone who is there, no matter what. Justin fell for Drew just as surely as Drew fell for him. Some things are just inevitable. Drew was able to get Justin out from inside his head, and be exactly that person that Justin needed most. Their smexytimes were super hot, too. I loved how Drew really embraced who he was and he didn't shy away from Justin, at all. And I loved how he was able to get Justin out of his head. The stories, the "travel", the sex. All of it.

I do recommend this series, and this book. And I am looking forward to the next one!

Riley Hart…

There wasn’t a thing about this story that I didn’t like. Granted, I’m already cray-cray over this series in general so I went in fairly certain that this would be a winner for me. Yay for me, because this hit all the right notes!

Justin and Drew were such lovable characters, emotional damages and dirty mouths alike. From the very first page I connected with both men for very different reasons. I related to Drew and his familial issues, particularly the detachment he felt from his brother. But more prominently, I acutely felt for everything that Justin was going through, from the impending loss of his father, to his feelings of anger and jealousy (and guilt) over his newly realised position in his father’s “other” family. Both men are dealing with their own issues, but it never felt too heavy or detracted from their budding romance – if anything, the ways in which Justin and Drew supported each other through the ups and downs made their love all the more remarkable.

I never really think about Hart’s writing quality when considering my reactions to her stories. This might be due to the fact that she always writes stories that are smooth and polished, and which give off an effortless feel, every single time. With unerring accuracy, Hart impressively articulates the types of emotions one feels when a loved one is losing a fighting battle against cancer. Due to the quality of writing, my heart broke for everyone involved; I couldn’t help but be deeply moved by the whole thing.

Ultimately, this was a great story about family, friendship, loss and love. I adored Justin and Drew – they were both well-developed characters who were ridiculously likeable, making them easy to root for, both individually and as a couple. In all honesty, I would have been happy to keep following their story long after the final pages were done, but I’ll just have to be placated by the knowledge that there is more to come within this series.

This book picks up from where Landon meets his father again since he was twelve years old and finds out he has a step-brother, Justin.

It's a sad and heartbreaking as Justin and his other two siblings, Landon and Shanen, watch as their father dies from cancer. The different family dymanics and chaos is expected and Riley Hart brings us into their trying lives.

Now Shanen has married Jacob and his brother Drew (Andrew), has by pure condience meets Justin in a gay bar and get together in a dark corner to jack each other off, then Drew runs for the hills.

My heart was painful as Justin dealt with his life being turned upside down and the anger that pulsed through his veins. I cried and I laughed and this book was so worth reading. I love Riley Hart's books and this one fits right in with her other two.

These aren't really stand alone books. To get the full meaning behind each couple and as they are bought back into each new book one should most definiately read them in order.

Now I'm starting the next book, Jumpstart and see where that brings me into these incrediable mens lives.

4 stars for the story
5 stars for the audio. Loved Sean Crisden's narration. It was my first audio and I was so anxious... I feared that I won't understand everything, even if I read only in English for years. Well it's clear that I was wrong in waiting so much for trying an audio. I loved it!!! ❤️❤️❤️
About the story, I really loved it but I wanted a little more relationship angst. We do get angst but it was mostly related to Justin's father.
This story was HOT and also extremely sweet at times. Riley Hart's stories never disappointed me.

True rating ... 4.25 stars :-)!!

I have to say, Riley Hart approached a pretty inflammatory topic - something that if not handled correctly, COULD have ended very negatively - with grace, respect, care, and great TRUE skill :-)! And let's be honest ... in a less experienced and (perhaps less emotionally aware) author's hands, this book would have totally crashed and burned [NO pun intended]! I'll point out that even where Jacob, Drew's brother, was concerned, instead of disliking him as much as I wanted to, Hart managed to salvage the relationship between the brothers, make it believable, and also turn things around where I didn't thin Jacob was such a bad guy after all! More to the point, there's Larry ... man oh man, I despise everything he initially did to these two families and yet, in the end, I too was saddened by his death and couldn't help but to recognize and acknowledge that he WAS a wonderful father to Landon, Shanen, and Justin in the end; he truly loved them! Though he definitely went about it all wrong over the course of their lives, he made things right and managed to give them all PEACE!! It's pretty awesome that Riley managed to accomplish this through her writing!
Whether or not he would have worked as hard in reconciling and bringing everyone together had he not been dying, well, we will never know, but for Hart to turn such a controversial and inflammatory subject into a beautiful story, is pretty impressive! As while I despised what Larry DID, I didn't despise HIM, and I did feel bad for him in the end, and let me tell ya, I was totally prepared to hate/loathe/despise/abhor him and had he been anyone else or written by anyone else, I would have, no doubt, 100%!! I believed his remorse, his apology, and his burning desire to make things right!
So yeah, Ms. Hart, I take my hat off to you for managing to create such a wonderful story :-)!!

Consider this test drive failed. Big time. There were so many things I found annoying and hard to ignore that kept me from getting emotionally involved in what is a pretty shitty family situation for anyone to be in.

The part that usually makes GFY stories work for me (stories about "straight" men falling for another man) was missing from this one so I was kinda put off from the beginning. The MCs are/have nothing interesting to write home about and Justin spends the entire book "sorting out his thoughts", having fun to forget about them then regrets it the next morning in "what the hell am I doing?" inner monologues.

Even though it is sexually a lot more adventurous than the first book and there's a lot of sex, I could do without the sex talk about who's gonna fuck whom and where in the house. And don't get me started about that "...and damned if that didn't make him..." sentence that's used, like, 147 times!

There are brief moments when Justin isn't being annoying and when they don't talk about sex that allow for more meaningful and emotional connections and conversations - the "trips" to Ireland were particularly sweet - but they're very few unfortunately.

By the end, I was skipping page after page of filler text to get to the dialogue and finish this frustrating book. And not a single highlight! Should have gotten off this ride after the first book.

I really liked this book. Well deserved 4⭐.

"Drew got down the stairs even quicker than he got up them. He jerked open the door and… “You stole my fucking hat.” Justin smiled and it nearly stopped his damn heart.
“You sure this is yours? It comes with a lot of responsibility. You see, I fell in love with the man who wears this hat. If it fits, that means you’re stuck with me. It means you’re mine.”"

Drew and Justin's book has a very different quality to it when compared to the other two books so far. It really brings that intimate story forward, doesn't paint anyone in a negative way, but tries to understand life, doesn't use stereotypes, misogyny or insanely dramatic turnarounds, it just tells you Drew and Justin's journey and I really, really liked it.

🔵 Gym owner/construction worker🟡 Brother in law's brother
🟢 Both around 30 yrs old
🟣 Gay/bisexual
🔵 Love the cover
🟡 Anonymous hook-up, secret dating, long distance, moving in together
❗ Some family drama - death of a parent, cancer; estranged family
🌶️ A lot of smut but not told as in other books so far, very realistic scenes, intimate, passionate, emotional, comforting; t/b --> both vers

Justin was the never mentioned kid Landon and Shanen's (from the previous installment) father left the family for and even though they all welcomed them both back with open arms when their father was dying of cancer, Justin's emotional journey towards accepting all of it was long and somewhat difficult.

Justin felt mostly alone and without emotional support during all that time and Drew was always there for him. Justin met Drew in a bar where they hooked up, but finding out later they're somewhat related by marriage through their brother and sister, they became friends, then lovers and the progression of their love story was very authentic and believable.

“Don’t.” There was a rough bite to Drew’s voice. “Don’t pretend you don’t know that I’m in love with you. Every fucking thing that Rod would do for Landon, or that Jacob would do for Shanen, I’d do for you. I want to be where you are. I want to support you. Tell me you know that.”

They went through ups and downs and Justin was spinning with all the emotional turmoil he was experiencing daily, but Drew offered that solid, silent support along with freedom for Justin to process everything in his own time, which also meant Justin moving back home when his father died.
First I thought I didn't like that outcome, because they both loved each other already and having a long distance relationship was still up in the air, but then I very much liked what Drew did. He let Justin go and gave him space and time to figure it out on his own. It didn't take them long, even though it did hurt a bit they were kind of breaking up. Kind of.

"He felt Justin’s hand on his leg and stopped speaking. Drew looked down as Justin let his fingers dance up and down Drew’s thigh— up and down, he walked them along Drew’s leg. Rubbed it with his thumb. It was such an intimate action. In some ways it almost felt more intimate than anything he’d done, which he was aware made no fucking sense at all."

This was the best book so far in this series. I appreciated the side characters in this book, they were present in a very nondisturbing way - they complimented the story instead of taking away the spotlight.

The main couple was lifelike, likeable and their story worth reading about. It gets emotional, doesn't add too much drama, you'll cry a little and then you'll just enjoy the emotional comfort between the main characters. Justin and Drew offer each other that safe space where they can just be vulnerable, authentic and feel.
I really appreciated that and I especially appreciated Drew and his maturity. Everything felt so effortless, the connection felt strong and they both could just rely on each other and that was it.

Yeah.

I think I might have read this book before... but I have no proof of it here on Goodreads or anywhere else and it made me so confused.

Anyway, I really liked this one. Sure, it was quite predictable (which might be because I might have read this one before...), with all the family drama. I would honestly have preferred the family drama to take the backseat and have Justin and Drew's love story more on the front. But overall I really liked but Justin and Drew so much that it didn't annoy me as much as it usually does.

So, picture this: girl on the elliptical at the gym, red-faced, sweating, and looking like she’s going to die. She’s paging through a book on her Kindle—at first a little quick and cagey-like because she somehow always winds up reading the hottest scenes in public places. After a while her pace slows down and then, oh, what’s that? She’s crying. Yep, she’s crying. She’s now a red-faced, sweaty, out of breath, sobbing mess.

That girl was me.

I regret nothing.

I loved the crap out of this book. I think this might be my favorite of the Crossroads series (so far). I feel like Ms. Hart captured every emotion just perfectly, and there are so many emotions here. There’s a lot of lightness and humor, a hefty wallop of scorching heat (Oh, hey there fellow gym-goer reading over my shoulder! Your panties are probably not going to be happy with you!), and some tears.

I felt like the story here was super rich—it’s more than a love story. It’s the story of a family learning how to…be a family. There’s some heartbreak and joy and the exquisite beauty of finding love where you least expect it.

Justin and Drew were—ugh… SO FREAKING AMAZING. Both of them. They are so perfectly matched, so exactly what the other needs, and there were scenes between them that literally took my breath away. I loved that there wasn’t much drama between them, especially because the story going on around them was so dramatic. I loved how they communicated, how they were affectionate, how in-tune to each other they were. My feelings are basically on overdrive right now because these two men have just set up residence in my heart and I could not be happier for it.

This is the third book in the Crossroads series and I think it stands on its own pretty well, but I’m not going to lie—it was a huge treat to catch up with Nick and Bryce, and Landon and Rod. Riley Hart writes some amazingly memorable characters and I loved how she brought them all back together here. Warm fuzzies for days.

Test Drive was a nearly perfect reading experience for me (minus that embarrassing show of emotion at the gym). I turned the last page on a pretty epic book high and cannot wait to see what Ms. Hart delivers next. ~ Shelly, 5 stars

~~~
This amazing book… Honestly, I LOVED book one, Crossroads, so very much, I wasn't sure that Riley Hart would be able to match the intensity, the feels, and the heat I experienced when I read that book the first time, but damn if she didn't get me there with the exceptional third installment in this series.
Justin and Drew were so incredibly right together—even from their very first meeting. What was supposed to be a one-night-only deal turned into something so balanced and real and raw, I felt Every. Single. Moment. I'm actually kind of struggling with my words a little here; I want to say SO MUCH, but I don't know how…
But, I shall try. This was a book that captured my attention from the first page—hell, from BEFORE the first page—and took my heart and emotions on a roller coaster ride. It made me swoon, and laugh, and cry. When Justin was first introduced in Shifting Gears, I knew needed more of him. Because his story was…is...heartbreaking. I wanted to hold him, make it better. I ached for him, smiled with him, fell in love with him. Ms. Hart did an incredible job of making his pain, discomfort, and confusion mine.
And then, she gave him (and me!) Drew. Wonderful, steady, kind Drew, who needed to be needed as much as Justin wanted to be wanted. They balanced each other perfectly. They gave each other something vital, and it was painfully, wonderfully apparent. Together, they built a friendship, which ignited, then burned into a steamy, sexy, HOT “test drive”.
And, ultimately, made Test Drive one HELL of a good book. With cameos from Nick and Bryce, Landon and Rod, and the rest of this haphazard family, there were moments upon moments upon moments that just spoke to me and my pesky feels. I may have been a little unsure before I opened this book, but after closing it, there is no doubt. Test Drive is a ride you MUST take. ~ Beth, 5 stars
5+ Testing Stars!
Oh...my...GAWD!!! Now I have read some Riley Hart books, but I think this is my new fave of hers. I LOVE books where two people enter into some type of temporary, no-strings arrangement, only for it to blow up in their faces later when it's over and they still want more. THAT'S what this is. It's Justin and Drew taking a test drive, and boy do they both enjoy the ride.
I loved the emotion which was so well balanced with the steam and the humor. And the book had zero lulls for me. It kept me glued to the page from start to finish. Just an all around AMAZING and unforgettable read. I highly recommend this one. :))
Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5/5
Format: audiobook
Narration: 🎤🎤🎤🎤/5
Justin and Drew were adorable.
This was a lot angstier than the other books in this series and dealt with some darker topics. Everything revolves around Justin getting ready to say goodbye to his father who is dying of cancer, and his new sister’s brother-in-law (and also the dude he got off with at a gay club) is the guy who gets him through it.
The story was sad but the relationship stayed light and adorable. The spice took a backseat to the romance aspects but it was still Riley Hart-level hot. I do really enjoy her dirty talk and overall descriptions during spice scenes.
This series was very cute, with not a whole bunch of substance really, but I enjoyed it a lot.
Probably the best of the bunch but I might have still skimmed some of the sex scenes.. and some of the chapters that had emotions I didn't care about. Whoops.
