Written with reluctant readers in the 8 to 13 years age group in mind, Second Chance tells the story of a large unconventional family who move into an old beach cafe. They discover that they can't escape the cafe's tragic past in this ghost story.
This book is intended for older readers who might be reluctant to read long books. There are mentions of suicide, the possibility of a stillborn baby and housing problems.
Because it is such a short book there wasn't chance to discover enough about the characters to care about them. There was a resolution of sorts at the end of the book but I didn't feel satisfied by it.
It would be okay if you need a short book to read but I wouldn't give it to a student I was trying to encourage to read more.
