Getting drunk and trying to dry hump his best friend in the parking lot of a seedy biker bar is just about the most cringeworthy thing Chris has ever done. Being rejected is the most painful. He just doesn’t understand. The sexual tension between him and Mick is palpable. It’s always been there, just under the surface, and Chris was so sure that if he just made a move Mick would respond. But he didn’t. He pushed him away. After ten years on the same black ops team, having each other’s backs and being there for each other every step of the way, Chris doesn’t know how they’re supposed to get past this.
Mick is furious. Chris has run away, heading off on a solo mission to only God knows where, without giving Mick a chance to explain. He’s been gone for over a year. Did Chris really expect him to take advantage of him when he was drunk off his ass and barely able to stand? What kind of person would that make Mick? Chris has never given even the slightest indication that he wants to act on the tension between them, and letting him do so while drunk would be a grave violation of trust. Mick wishes that Chris would grow the fuck up and talk to him.
But when Chris finally does call him, all of Mick’s hopes and dreams for a future with his best friend are shattered. Chris has bonded to an omega, and he needs Mick to come play bodyguard. Mick doesn’t have it in him to say no. When Chris’s omega goes into heat and Chris is nowhere to be found, things get complicated…
(This 60,000 word novel is a standalone romance with a HEA and no cliffhanger.)

Another great read by D. J. Heart. There are several authors I love who write books with super alpha males and their omegas, but D. J. rarely disappoints. Her books are full of testosterone and sex. If you like this kind of book, I highly recommend this one.
3.5 Stars ~ A new-to-me author and a story set in omegaverse. I'm growing quite fond of this trope, although I'll always love the shifter alpha and omegas the best. I am a sucker - pun intended - for a good ménage, and having two alphas and an omega sounded like it was going to be pretty hot. Once I discovered that Chris had left and gone undercover to investigate omega trafficking - after Chris got the call that his brother had died, and when he went snooping, there were a lot of people lying - well, I was definitely interested in the story even more.
I'm repulsed by any form of slavery or trafficking, even in fiction, unless the slavery is a consensual BDSM relationship. Mason gets kidnapped when he can't deliver the rest of the money he owes a loan shark, although he took out the loan in order to get his mom the treatment she needs that her insurance wouldn't cover. Nice to see that even in fiction, health insurance companies are a**holes. Mason is a bit older than the other omegas at the brothel and more educated, with a bachelor and a master's in biology, plus two years of medical school under his belt. He's also a complete virgin having never wanted to bond with an alpha and having someone be in charge of his life and his children.
The brothel prevents the omegas from bonding by putting an anti-bonding chip under their skin, which, of course, Mason removed, since if he bonds he'll be in a better position than working the brothel. Of course, when Mason doesn't go immediately into heat, even after the drugs he's given, the boss decides to send Chris to knot him. Unfortunately, Chris can't come up with a likely excuse, even though this is one thing he hasn't done since he has been undercover. He has tapped into a lot of his alpha tendencies, the dark ones that honorable alphas don't make use of, but he'll be damned if he sinks any lower. Imagine his surprise when he bonds with Mason, and Mason’s equal bafflement that it happened with his first alpha.
Oh, the tension between Mick and Chris when they see each other again. Chris doesn't understand why he still feels the way he does since he's bonded to Mason now. Mick knows that any hopes he had aren't going to happen, and Mason is confused about a number of things, not the least being he can sense the undercurrents between the two alphas. What is already weird becomes Twilight Zone strange when Mason goes into another heat with Chris gone and Mick there. This shouldn't be happening. Mason assumes maybe it has to do with the shot he was given at the brothel, but none of that matters now while he's suffering. Chris can't make it home before the danger to Mason becomes too great and he gives permission to Mick. Umm, what? Mick is shocked because the bond trumps everything. Mason assumes this isn't a bonding heat so he just wants the relief. And Chris is so turned on at the thought of Mick and Mason he can hardly stand it. Again, I say, what?
“Have you heard of this happening before?” Mick asked, the initial shock wearing off. He hated to admit it, but thinking over the implications of bonding with Mason, Mick wasn’t entirely sure he regretted it….” “Sometimes established couples will bond with the same omega,” Mason said, adding, “but you and Chris aren’t a couple.” Mick almost laughed. They might not have been having sex, but the relationship between him and Chris had been real.”
I'll admit that the sex is insanely hot, although one of the things I didn't particularly care for is the way the author wrote it when both alphas and Mason were involved. Sometimes it felt as if Mason was just a vessel to be used, even though he certainly didn't indicate feeling that way, and it's just my interpretation. Overall, this is a good story with an interesting plot and characters that aren't too complicated. If that's something you enjoy, then this might be a good read for you.
Creative story line and I loved the relationships. There are scenes between all three of them, yes, but beta gets to have an independent relationship with each of the Alphas - and the two Alphas get to be together too. Well done and a lot of fun.
Though the cover is far from my type personally, the summary intrigued me so I decided to give this one a try. For the first half of the book, I was not disappointed! Mason was a spunky, independent, resourceful omega that I just fell in love with and Chris' respectable attitude towards omegas was just the type of alpha I like to see! For the first half of the book, I would've likely rated this 4 stars.
When Mick was first reintroduced, I was still excited. Mick shared the same attitude towards omegas that Chris did, and though I'd wanted to see more time spent with just Chris and Mason, there wasn't anything to dislike about Mick. It wasn't until the first intimate scene with Mick and Mason that the story went downhill. And it went fast. It felt rushed and the character's seemed to completely lose their personalities in favor of uncomfortable sex scenes that just seemed really forced and contradictory of their initial personalities. The personalities I'd fallen in love with just didn't shine through in the second half like they did in the first. What was most disappointing was that it felt like Mason seemed to go from being this strong-willed, likable character to almost like a shallow extra that was only really there to make the sex scenes possible. So unfortunately if I had only read the second half of the book alone, I likely wouldn't have even finished it. It just absolutely was not for me.
Loved the length of this book, but I felt there was no depth. I forgot that this is the author whose alphas I didn't like in Noah's alphas. Chris and Mick weren't horrible, but they were just blah. The start with the both of them was very promising, and the beginning with Chris and Mason (omega) was sweet, but then things went downhill with the two of them and Mason. Even though they told him he could object to sex and what they did, he just seemed like a hole for them to use. They were nice to him and protective, but not particularly nurturing. The way they were with him during sex was off putting, especially Mick was so new to him in the beginning, and I'm all for rough sex! The power dynamic was weird. Mason wasn't a pushover, and that was good, but the way he spoke to two alphas seemed...nah uh. I had zero interest in Chris's torturing/business storyline. Totally skipped those scenes. They just didn't flow with the rest of the storyline. The world building threw me off too. How were they alphas with knots but they weren't wolves? They never shifted and wolves were never mentioned, so they were...what? Human men have knots now? Sigh. This book was longgg but without any real meat.
This is the first book i've read by this author and I was not dissapointed. Great story and nice and steamy. I will be looking for more books by Heart.
This was a good book for the most part but there were two things that got to me which is why I'm only giving it four stars. The first, they're a triad couple but the two alphas never actually bottom for one another which is okay i just felt like the relationship would've been more cemented if they had. The second thing and this is the biggest one Mick and Chris say they love each other but not once do they say they love mason they only "like" him and I felt like Mason should've heard those words from them.
Let's be honest, if you read this it's for the knotting- and there's lots of it.
But other than that it was just ok. I wished there was more relationship building-especially between Chris and Mick who have a history, but it's all just glossed over. I get the Insta-possessiveness between an Alpha and his bonded Omega but after about 60% there was very little on page plot holding all the sex together.
Despite this book being about uncovering a sex trafficking ring and punishing the people who wronged the victims it felt like there was absolutely no drama or tension. I continued to read to pass time but I didn’t enjoy much of it. It wasn’t bad, it was just mediocre and could’ve been fleshed out in every type of sense.
DJ Heart needs to publish a new book soon because I literally am running out of books to read from them. The only reason why I haven't run out is that I've been rationing the unread books and rereading my favorite ones. Seriously, I am panicking. Also, this book was good, as always.
I love this author's alpha/omega stories. This one had an unusual spin to the bonding. I actually would have liked more on-page sex, but I still enjoyed it.
Not sure I get the whole omega verse...they aren't shifters but they are alpha and omega, beta etc... It was okay parts of it were good but Heart lost me a few times.
I'd give it five stars for the first half or so; the setup was great. Chris is trying to avenge his brother and bring down an illegal brothel; he meets Mason, who's been kidnapped and is trying to make his escape and they end up working together. But it was if after writing up to there, someone told the author, "You need to make it a threesome; add another character." Now, I like threesomes just fine (Omega: The Complete Series is a favorite of mine), but there was really no reason at all to have Mick in there. The parting between Chris and Mick in the prologue was so contrived, and then after having no contact for years because of it, it's completely resolved in no time. Would much rather have seen the original setup expanded and played out more fully.
Owned this for a while now because I decided to give this author a try. It has been on my "books I want to read quickly and remove from queue" shelf [you know those books ... the ones you do want to give a try but don't want to save], and I figured it was about time I made some space. This is one of those moments when I wish GR allowed half stars because HALF A STAR!! Ugh, so many things that I didn't appreciate about this book. An MC [the omega] referring to himself as a "pocket pussy" (albeit internally and in jest, in that he felt like one in how we was being "manhandled"), is just one of those things. Men, never, EVER refer to yourselves as pocket pussies. If you think it's sexy, it's not. Blech. No. Just no. This book just skeeved me out :-/!!
So, I liked this better than I thought--the damn hot sex certainly helped, but the characters, story, and situation held up, even with some issues. Was simplistic and predictable, but not in a bad way once it got rolling and the sex scorched it away. I liked that even though it was an involuntary bonding, the alphas did care about the omega's well-being, thoughts, and desires, treated them like another person and not just some sex slave. The world and character building was a bit lacking and counted on the reader just going with the flow, could have been better explained and given some depth within the story. But hey, decent story with connectable characters and hot knotting alpha and omega sex.
In the vaguely constructed world of this book, alpha males exploit the omega males as sexual objects unless they bond with them. Then the alphas are protective big Brothers with sexual privileges. Mason, the omega in the story, is supposedly a medical student but his behavior makes him seem like a naive little boy. The stereotypes continue with the plot: the alphas work for the CIA but are rogue killers willing to seek revenge against those who do wrong with no thought about any orderly pursuit toward justice. As scene after scene of sex among the omega and his two alphas went on with so little character or plot development, even the eroticism seemed flat. There are much better versions of this story out there. Skip this one.
This started out as a real story with plot and everything. Mason had good character development and you liked him as an omega. Then Chris shows up and is disgusting, then Mick shows up and is so one dimensional hot alpha there only as sex toy prop, that I could not finish and gave up at 75%. I’m sad the story got lost in the sex because I can see the author can write a decent story, but abandons it for flat characters and fairly dirty, not for most people’s palettes, sex filled with dubious consent, humiliation, and extreme aggressive behavior. In other books by the author the alphas are still overly aggressive during the sex scenes but afterwards are caring and attentive. Not in this story, and without that, I’m not interested.
3.5 This story started out intensely and with more suspense than I thought. Then it "devolved" into what I was originally expecting, which was sex, sex & more sex. (Only momentarily disappointing.) Interesting twists
Non shifter alpha/omega society. Good mix of romantic and erotica sex.
Mason has been sold in an omega trafficking ring. He finds rescue with Chris, a G-man out on his own to take down the big players. When he needs help, Chris turns to his oldest friend and crush, Mick. The investigation runs until the truth comes out.
Warning: scenes of torture and killing, but only to the bad guys.
Story could have had a few rough patches smoothed and there were a few glaring errors of wrong names or wrong words used.
This book is great it has a bit of kink and a whole lot of love and sex. I could not put this story down the characters are so vivid I could just close my eyes and see the characters like they were real people that takes a lot of talent. Another thing I loved was that the author took the time and made sure there wasn't spelling mistakes it showed he cared about his work and the reader. I can't wait for more. Also try Evan's Alphas it is a great series
Omg I knew once I started this book it was going to be amazing i really love Mick Chris two very sexy alpha that add differents strength in there connection with each other and Mason was one of my favorite omega's very resourceful with that being said pick up this book and enjoy the ride. I never felt bored reading this book no spoliers here. I received this copy for an honest review
