COMIC SUPERSTARS MARK WAID AND FIONA STAPLES CONTINUE THEIR REIMAGINING OF AN ICON! The new school year continues to bring with it daunting new challenges and interesting changes for the teens of Riverdale High. But there's one thing that remains constant: Archie's car is still a piece of garbage! With car problems comes money problems, which means that Archie's on the hunt for a new job. Fortunately, a mysterious new building in Riverdale is offering some career opportunities for Archie and his friends. Who's behind this new conglomerate and what are their intentions for Riverdale? Find out in the second issue of this all-new Archie series!
Mark Waid (born March 21, 1962 in Hueytown, Alabama) is an American comic book writer. He is best known for his eight-year run as writer of the DC Comics' title The Flash, as well as his scripting of the limited series Kingdom Come and Superman: Birthright, and his work on Marvel Comics' Captain America.
Archie, from the older version of the comics, has always been clumsy. The way they used his clumsiness in this issue was so over-the-top and funny. I love it so much! Also, I loved Betty's quirk of wanting to fix things. It's her thing.
This series is getting better as it goes for sure. I think Archie is a pretty likeable character and as the issues go on I find myself more interested in not only his story but also that of Betty who is the other major character. I think Jughead also has potential and he features every now and then. I think the next issue might focus more on him and so I will be intrigued about how this continues to unfold and evolve as I am sure it can get better.
The artwork is once again lovely as we know Fiona Staples is. She's wonderful at capturing the expressions and actions of people and making them feel genuine and accessible. I like that this is a fairly contemporary storyline and I think her art style really fits with this making it both clean and clear cut with some excellent line work and colouring to boot :)
As for the story it's fun and each issue we learn a bit more about the town and the people where Archie lives. It's a fairly regular place and we're following a down-to-Earth story of a boy in college(?) and yet it really works quite well as a light yet interesting read. I am looking forward to seeing what will come in future issues and I hope to keep an eye out for them in my local shops! 4*s
(also at the end of each issue we have some of the original Archie comic strips and seeing the comparison between that and the current design makes me chuckle! It's so different, but very 'of the times'. If you liked the original Archie you'll probably appreciate them more than me, but it's a fun time to skim over them and just see the inspiration Fiona and Mark have to work from!)
I didn't care for how Trev treated Betty. He needs to learn to back off. As for Betty, there was no need for her to "fancy up" for her party. She has always been the "girl-next-door", and everyone loves her and her tomboyish ways.
Shade tree mechanic, Betty Cooper, strikes again, fixing Archie's car. While Archie seems to not realize that she still loves him, his father sees it very well.
Plus, Ronnie's in Riverdale now. You know that means crap is about to go down.
The previous one was better than this one. Still we get more back story about Archie's friends. The accidental antiques of Archie during his part time jobs. And lastly, his chance encounter with the gorgeous Veronica. Probably they will have more time together in the next volume. And Betty still hasn't gotten over Archie by the looks of it. It's going to be the love triangle like the original, but maybe some twists along the way.
Back off, Trev. She is Archie's! *huf* So it's Betty's birthday and Archie ain't invited. Poor Archie. He is clumsy when it comes to work or anything... I can relate to him. Totes! At least his friends are taking care he doesn't do anything to harm himself at the Lodge's construction site. But well... he ain't that lucky. He screwed up big. LOL! And then Betty secretly fixes his OLD car. She still loves him alright. Next the Lip Incident gets revealed and enters VERONICA! Had fun reading. Betty we all know the struggle. Betty is pretty as she is.
This was even better than the previous one, of how Betty is trying all girlish stuff, putting makeup, making hairstyle & going to wear a dress for a party... how she manages to erase her Tom boyish look & transforming into a lady like avatar ;) Then, Archie too having problems in getting a job, getting his hands on many different things as he wants money & he has to fix his broken car as well but he's either too clumsy or careless to even perform his task well! While, these two exes were having their own issues, we get to meet the new girl in town, the new hottie.. RONNIE! Oh no.. she's here already! Archie is excited to see her in just one glance!! I don't wanna see her coming in between Betty & Archie.. plz :/
Damn! On a roll since this is just a few pages. Veronica Lodge is a pretty girl and even Betty Cooper. But, ever since as a kid I'm a Betty Cooper-Archie fan. Can't change it now. But Ronnie was so effin hot in here.
Archie 2015 it's getting better and funnier... I love how they built the anticipation for Veronica's arrival with the signs and the shots of the unfinished house. Can't wait for the next issues!
She's always been nice (except when it comes to Veronica). She's definitely my favorite. She's sweet, honest and frankly I never thought Archie deserved her.
Well, I certainly wasn't expecting THAT backstory for Jug and I'm not sure how I feel about it, but at the same time I enjoyed the stories - both new and the old reprint at the end. It's heavy on the slapstick comedy, which is something I'm not used to as someone who was introduced to the world of Archie through the television show, but for a comic it works well. I was a little uncomfortable with the way Archie pokes fun at his best friend, though it seems to be portrayed as just how their friendship is so at least he's not being hurtful in context of the story. I also loved the outcome of Betty's struggle to be true to herself. Overall, an entertaining issue.
This was ridiculously cute, sweet and funny! And, best of all was the return of one aspect of Archie Andrews I've always loved: the crazy ability he has of destroying things by accident. Because of this, when he decides to work at a construction site, his friends come to the rescue...
"It's our moral duty to stick around and keep watch over him. Assuming he's still alive when we reach the end of the line."
Ah, a touch of the Archie we all knew, that the CW seem to have forgotten. This was a really fun read. It's just close enough to the original comics to have a hint of nostalgia while cementing the new forming direction of the Archie comics to come. I like change, I'm all for modernising the Riverdale gang, but I enjoyed the playful, clumsy Archie over the brooding portrayal found in the tv series.
5 Stars! ★★★★★ This issue had more of a comedic element with Archie not having a job or money to fix his car. The premise seems simple, but Mark Waid & Fiona Staples really created a fun story about it. And Veronica’s character made her first appearance. This spells trouble because just when Betty wants Archie back, Archie falls for Veronica.
I chose to rate 5 stars because it is a good and funny book. The only thing I don't like about this book is that it is very short so it doesn't take long to read it . I would recommend this book to my cousin because she loves funny stories.
