The Inter-Pack Policing Cooperative has hired Spirelli Paranormal Investigations. Not so unusual, except that it's Marin's father, the Chief of Security, who's doing the hiring this time. Personal lives collide with professional as Jack and Marin track down a magical book that IPPC covets...and that might just be more dangerous than anyone realizes.
Kate Baray writes page-turning urban fantasy with relatable characters.
When Kate's not tapping away at her keyboard or in deep contemplation of her next fanciful writing project, she's sweeping up hairy dust bunnies and watching British mysteries.
Kate is from Austin, Texas (where many of her stories take place) but has recently migrated north to Boise, Idaho, where soup season (her favorite time of year) lasts more than two weeks.
She's worked as an attorney, a dog trainer, and in various other positions, but writer is the hands-down winner. She's thankful readers keep reading, so she can keep writing!
Kate's series include Lost Library and Spirelli Paranormal Investigations. Under the pen name Cate Lawley, Kate (aka Cate!) writes Vegan Vamp Mysteries, Death Retired Mysteries, Fairmont Finds Canine Cozy Mysteries.
“The Geolocating Book” finds Jack and Marin being hired by none other than Marin’s father on behalf of the IPPC. They want the duo to obtain a geolocation book that is being advertised on the internet. Before they can even get to the antiquated bookstore someone beats them to the punch and takes the book.
Meanwhile Jack has been thinking about making Marin a partner in the business. He proposes the idea to her but before she can even consider it or answer him they are off in search of the book. Their search leads them to a small town where a strange church has garnered the support of some high level individuals. Before they know it they are once again in a battle for their lives. Jeez, here they go again!
We get a small glimpse at Bob but no real mention of Joshua the dragon whose essence Jack absorbed. I’m convinced he will be a major factor in this series. It is just yet to be revealed. If you haven’t discovered this series you will definitely want to put it on your to read list.
Ok so, I was going to leave my comments until I had finished all the "episodes" of this book but it is so neat. Jack Spirelli is a normal run of the mill human but he has glasses that let him see magickal things and his assistant is a Dragon he has a creature living in his junk shop walls that he named fuzz face but Marin told him his name was Bob...I believe there are 7 books in this series and so far I have found 6 in audio firm. Kate Baray is a new author for me and I love her funny short reads urban fantasy and worth the read.
A geolocation book that uses death magic was up for sale. Jack and Marin were tasked with buying it. The book was dangerous and obtaining it was a lot more complicated than they thought.
This is the fifth episode from the Spirelli Paranormal Investigation series. The characters are dynamic and the interactions between them was witty and engaging. The storyline is full of action, interesting paranormal characters and magical twists. It is yet another great paranormal action/adventure from a wonderful series.
Jack and Marin are sent off to look into a book that might give magic powers to ordinary people. Worse, some fool book store owner has put it up for sale on the open market. They pose as a couple intending to move to this nice little town, with the creepy Church, and the people who follow them, and the stench of death magic… oopsies. 3 stars
"The Geolocating Book" — Turns out they have to take down a small-town death magic cult. As usual, humor and action. A bit "Shoot (dragonfire) first, ask questions of the dead guys."
This is too short to be a book. A chapter, maybe. While I really liked everything about this with the exception of the length. I feel a bit, well, maybe taken advantage of because it was so short. Is there a chance we might get a book soon, with say 300 or so pages? Thanks for the series. I like everything except the length.
Marin's father has requested that Jack track down a magical book for his organization. Sounds easy, doesn't it? But as Jack soon finds out, nothing is ever easy when dealing with magic and dragons. This is the 5th story in the Spirelli series and as always, a quick and fun read. Interspersed with mystery and magic, each story tells more and more about Jack's cases and his relationships with the magical world. Besides Marin, the mysterious young dragon he works with, there is the adorable Bob that resides in his office. I look forward to more of these tales!
Sometimes I'm afraid to get attached to a new series, because after a few entries the author has nothing new to say but keeps writing anyway, and the whole thing goes horribly...wrong.
But once in a while I get lucky, and a new series I fall in love with just gets better and better with each subsequent entry. This series is one of the good ones! The characters are three dimensional, the banter is snarky in the best way, and the plots just keep getting better.
