Brides of Mayfair #3

His Courtesan Bride

Rate this book
When Miss Serena Ransom is caught in a scandalous embrace with Lord Kane at a Mayfair ball, her reputation is destroyed and her future looks grim. But when she joins The Courtesan Club, conceived by the famous courtesan, Lady Night, Serena begins a new life and vows to take charge of her own destiny as never before. Serena is a celebrity, and London’s most powerful men are competing to become her lover and protector. Everything is falling into place, except for the one man who threatens everything—Darius Manning, the Earl of Kane. Serena stirred Darius’s passions as no other woman ever had. Even as he kissed her that night at the Mayfair ball, he knew he could never make her his wife, for he was pledged to another. Now, years later, Darius is free at last and cannot forget the passionate, auburn-haired miss that still fires his blood. The wealthy Lord Kane makes Serena an offer she can’t refuse, to share his bed as his exclusive courtesan. But as Darius and Serena begin a journey of unbound pleasure together, they soon learn that the most dangerous emotion of all isn’t passion, or desire… but love. “Michelle McMaster knows exactly how to keep readers entertained with the perfect mix of romance and laughter. Liked It

I like how romantic the whole idea of the book is- a courtesan and her protector having their happily ever after. So if you are a reader looking for a romance that is rooted on facts and pragmatic situations then this might not be for you because this borders on fairytale minus the fantasy/magic. This novel focuses on the human emotions and how the main characters deal with their relationship issues.

Darius, the hero, compromised the reputation of Serena, the heroine, during a ball. Serena was not aware he had proposed to another girl for financial reasons and said girl was the one who caught them making out in the garden. Fast forward two years and Serena is being launched as the virgin courtesan. Darius found a way to secure her as his courtesan. Thus ensues their journey to settle their past issues and future. I liked how the main characters are protrayed. Of course, for me the hero could have been more contrite and repentant. Along that line of thinking I somehow pined for a different ending. But that is just me deviating from an already likable plot. I appreciate this book also for its epilogue.

No Self-respecting woman would like this heroine . she’s a b////// in heat. he is no better either. I don’t see any respect for her in him. He ruined her. He ruined her life .no remorse , just give her money that should be enough for ruining her life. And this book glorifies prostitution no matter how you describe it, but it is a glorification of prostitution for some audience. this is not a love story. There is no way I could believe the hero that the heroine disrespecting her disrespecting her in front of his friend in real world around this time after he had his fail, he would have sold her out. unreal love story there is no way I can believe that he loved her. The hero has a bit of a sister. She thinks her brothers loss was greater than her heroine . the heroine’s mother died because of the hero’s action. Nothing can compare to that. All these characters in this books are hateful. I thought I hated the hero the most but now I think I hate the hero’s sister the most. hopefully someday somebody does that to her daughter and she dies because of it .

I really loved the first two in the Brides of Mayfair Series so I was very excited to read His Courtesan Bride. I was disappointed. I did not find the hero sexy or interesting. For the first 3/4 of the book I really thought he was a huge jerk and loser. I couldn't find one thing to like about him and it ruined most of the story for me. All he wanted from her was sex. He had little affection for her and worked hard to make her feel like a whore even at the end when he flips out on her for refusing his proposal. Seriously? If someone i was intimate with ever talked to me like that he would out.the.door.

I was glad they got their HEA together since he was very broken. But still, not my kind of hero.

2.5 stars. Had potential

Writing style was good. Author has the skull to tell a good story. Unfortunately the story wasn't that great.
There were a few passages that confused. Prologue- Serena is ruined in garden during a ball. The author describes in detail how Serena's mother taught her how to attract suitors. Chapter 5- Serena remembers going hungry as a child. Her mother, beaten down by poverty and abuse, is a shell of her former self. How did her mother afford a London Season? Readers will have to come to their own conclusions.
There was a lot of potential in this book, not least was the skilled writing. Sadly the story needed more polish and consistency.

Meh

Sorry, just not my cup-of-tea. The writing is superb. I could picture everything perfectly. But the storyline, the characters were not to my liking. I slogged my way through the first several chapters, hoping things would improve because the writing was good, but I just didn't like her and found him very blah. And I couldn't get into the story until near the end when the climax escalated. Disappointed.

On the fence about this one

The characters and plot were strong enough to keep me reading but some of the elements were a bit disturbing, like the violence and threats of violence towards the end.

Good reading

I love it when an author describe each person so well that you can visualize them. The twists and turns some were expected and shocking unexpected. Looking forward reading more from her.

👌👌👌

This novel had a lot of up and down moments for me. One moment, I was completely sure I wouldn't keep reading it, the next I couldn't seem to put it down because I wanted to know what happened. In the end, I'm glad I stuck with it and finished it out.

Charming melodrama

Well-conceived fable of mishandled challenges and complications focusing on not one but two wounded souls in a Regency setting of upper crust fantasy.

Touching Love Story

I loved the characters' struggles with their imperfections and the the necessity of their choices. Descriptions of love and loving are hard to come by.

This was simply a wonderful read for me. I loved it from the first sentence to the last and wished the book had gone on longer. It is not only a historical read but you also are smiling during parts of the book. I love the way this author writes and will be reading more of her books. This book was a grand slam!
