“I swear you invented the philosophy of YOLO,” Suze said with envy."
“It was all going great until we started doing the deed and he made these loud, high-pitched sex noises. I was like, okay, this is weird. But you know, he was good in bed, so I gave him a pass on the girly moans.”
“Seriously? How do you find all these amazing men?” Elodie grinned. “I won’t lie, it’s a skill.” “Sometimes I wish I wasn’t married so that we could go out together and paint the town red every night.”
"He also wore brown leather shoes with no socks. I noticed this was a real trend lately, but I wasn’t a fan. It just made me think of how sweaty your bare feet would be against the leather. Yuck. At least there was one part of him that wasn’t perfect. It helped break the spell his beauty cast over me."
"He was so pretty he could’ve been a girl"
"He had a sexy, masculine aura, but he was too beautiful to be described as manly. "

“One day a woman will come along when you least expect her, and she’ll wash away everything that came beforehand.”

"I think she's fabulous. If only the rest of the world were so free with their sexuality."
"Yes, if only. We'd all be walking around with chlamydia. What a wonderful world it would be."
Okay, this was my chance to flirt with a real live human.
I could wriggle my way out of it… eventually. If he came looking for Elodie again, I'd tell him she died in a helicopter crash. Or got struck by lightning. Or was inducted into a religious cult. Fell down a well. And SO. MUCH. SWOON. ❤️
She was everything I never sought in a partner, and yet, getting to know her, peeling away her unexpected layers, was my new obsession.
She was in full costume, but I couldn't seem to see her as Elodie anymore. She was just… her. For me, Elodie and Ellen were one and the same. A kaleidoscope of a single fascinating person.
He stood, took my face in his hands and gazed right into my eyes. "Ellen, you are the most amazing, interesting, and unexpected person I've ever met."
"Three days is hardly a lifetime."
"It is when you love someone."
"I love you so much, Julian. You have my heart now. Please be careful with it."But what I loved the most, was how much I could relate to Ellen...
He took my hand and placed it over his chest. "Don't you know? You were in here from the very beginning. If I hurt you, I hurt both of us. And I would rather die than be without you again."
If I didn't have to be me, then I could be anyone. I didn't have to fear rejection or worry about embarrassing myself.
Who knew a wig, contact lenses, makeup, and a new outfit could achieve such miracles? Or maybe I was developing some sort of personality disorder. Since I spent most of my days alone, I wouldn't be surprised. Isolation could do strange things to people.
Working from home was the best, but it was also the worst. It was the best because I didn't have to deal with people, and that was also the reason why it was the worst. Isolation became a self-perpetuating cycle. The more you had of it, the more you needed it, and the less equipped you were to deal with normal, everyday interactions that others took in stride.
Whenever a teacher called on me to speak or answer a question, I became mute, even when I knew the answer.
Sometimes I wondered what it would be like to be a normal person.I felt all this SO HARD. It was beautiful to watch her grow and come out of her shell. And I loved Julian's responses to her:
"There's nothing wrong with shyness, and there's nothing wrong with confidence, either. We all act how we feel. People tell themselves they need to be a certain way. But really, all we need to be is ourselves."
You don't need to be perfect or incredibly beautiful for people to accept you. You just need to be yourself.
"My philosophy in life is to do what makes you happy. So long as you're not hurting anyone else, there's no reason to feel shame."Cosway never fails to deliver unique characters, an intriguing storyline and stunning writing. If you haven't read her yet, you are seriously missing out and you need to rectify it. I'll wait... *stern face* 😏🙃

"My fatigued soul needed a change to make parties exciting again, and Elodie was the perfect recipe to provide it."
"If Elodie comes from within you, then she is you, Ellen."
❝I was in a hotel room with a male escort, receiving oral sex for the first time in my life.❞
❝I invite you to meet Ellen Grant: hermit, tomboy, make-believe artist.❞
❝I'm a male escort.❞ ❝...what I provide is more a holistic experience than just offering sex.❞
❝She always sat at the same table, and her stories were everything.❞
❝She was everything I never sought in a partner, and yet, getting to know her, peeling away her unexpected layers, was my new obsession. She pulled me in with the ruse of Elodie, who embodied the sort of woman I normally chase. Then the curtain fell to reveal something far more enthralling beneath.❞
