Nicole Taylor has been fighting to get on the right side of the tracks all her life, but never as hard as the last two years. Finally free from an abusive relationship, her focus is on looking forward. Her first step in that direction? A quick get-away to immerse herself in her photography--and a steamy encounter with a gorgeous green-eyed stranger.
To love a saint…
As a forward for The Baltimore Banners, shooting fast and scoring often is just part of the game for Mathias "Mat" Herron. Off the ice is a different story and this off-season, he has a different goal in mind: do whatever it takes to rid himself of the asinine nickname he was recently given by some of his teammates. An encounter with a beautiful stranger helps him do just that.
And life to teach them both what's important…
When reality collides with fantasy, will passion be enough to see them through? Or will it take a shoot-out of another kind to show them what matters most?
Lisa B. Kamps is a USA Today Bestselling Author who writes steamy romance with real-life characters and relatable stories that evoke deep emotion. She likes her men hard, her bed soft, her coffee strong, her whiskey neat, and her wine chilled...and when it comes to sports, hockey is the only thing that matters!
Lisa currently lives in Maryland with her husband and two sons (who are mostly sorta-kinda out of the house), one very spoiled Border Collie, two cats with major attitude, several head of cattle, and entirely too many chickens to count. When she's not busy writing or chasing animals, she's cheering loudly for her favorite hockey team, the Washington Capitals--or going through withdrawal and waiting for October to roll back around!
This was more like a 3.5 for me. For some reason I just couldn't get into the first half of the book but then I started to get really into it. Kinda disappointing because I loved the other books so much hopefully the 8th book coming out will be better
Loved it! After a one night stand in New Orleans, Mat can’t forget Nicole so when he sees her being harassed while driving one day he rescues her. Nicole’s abusive ex won’t accept that she is divorcing her and won’t leave her alone.
These characters are very lovable. His teammates call Mat The Saint but the hotness of his lovemaking is anything but saintly. There are some ugly scenes in this story but also some very hot ones and some very funny scenes at the end. All in all, a very good story which I highly recommend!
Can't say I'm a fan. A little too obsessive and stalker for me. I'm also tired of reading the openings of the books with someone drunk or getting drunk or waking up hung over. And a few pages later they are already hooking up. There's never a build up with any of these characters. It's just wham bam thank you ma'am and the rest of the books are always constant obsession about the other person. This is getting old and boring.
This book was a great read. It was magical, with dragon s and fairies. Nicole had had a hard life and was trying to do better for herself. She meets Mat on a getaway and never expects to see him again. Only Mat sees her again and can't let go. Can he convinced her?
Shoot Out is Lisa B. Kamps 7th novel in her Baltimore Banner's series. A sexy, intriguing, fast paced love story between two opposites during the off-season. Mathias "Mat" Herron, forward for The Baltimore Banners, teammates have nicknamed him "Saint" but while on vacation in New Orleans Mat wants to shake that name. A one-night stand with a sexy tattoo'd stranger seems to fit the bill but after all is said and done he can't shake the connection he felt but was it one sided? Nicole Taylor decided to take a quick vacation to celebrate a huge life change. She never thought a gorgeous green-eyed stranger on her last night in NOL would grab her attention. Working a job she hates but sometimes pays the bills, living with her leach of a mother and dodging her aggressive ex Nicole just needs to catch a break in life. Is that break for Nicole Mat? From two very different places can they find common ground in order to give love a chance?
One thing about Lisa's series is we get off-season novels and I love them. I love seeing stories that don't always take place during the hockey season and can show these characters enjoying and living life off the ice. Shoot Out brings us back to a few couples we've met in previous novels as it centers around a Banner's wedding but we also have a completely different feel to this novel from past stories. Bring in a bit of mystery with just the right amount of erotic touch to the tale, Lisa succeeds in grabbing your attention with the 1st chapter and holding it throughout. I finished this book in one sitting I just couldn't put it down. Did Mat loose his nickname? You'll have to read Shoot Out to find out for sure but "somethings can't be unseen". 5 Stars for Shoot Out by Lisa B. Kamps

I give this book 3.5 stars. This is the seventh book in the Baltimore Banners series. It is set in the off season so there are team players but no hockey games in the book. As with her other books, the action is hot and steamy. She did a good job with the storyline and development of the characters. While this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.
Mat Herron decided he was going to turn over a new leaf. He was tired of being Saint Mat. While on a short trip to New Orleans with some teammates, he meets and beds Nichole. She leaves his hotel room before he wakes up the next morning. Even though he told himself he only wanted one night, he can't get her out of his head. All he knows is her first name and that she volunteers at a hospital in Baltimore.
Nichole Taylor hasn't had an easy life. Two years after getting out of an abusive relationship, she rewards her efforts at improving her life and fresh start with a quick trip to New Orleans. That fresh start includes one very steamy night with a stranger (Mat). She goes back to Baltimore to continue her efforts to save up enough money to move out on her own and continue her passion for photography.
Mat tracks her down as she is leaving the hospital one day and offers her a ride. Can Nichole overcome issues in her past and stop questioning and over thinking everything Mat does and says? Can Mat break through her defenses and get her to believe he is really interested in her?
The author did a good job of giving depth, thoughts, emotions, and struggles to these characters. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
5 Star Read: My absolute favorite and will read again and again. I strongly recommend! It has outstanding qualities. The characters are wonderful and surprising and multi-dimensional. The writing is luring, engaging, and well-crafted enough to keep me interested from cover to cover and beyond. The plot is astonishing with twists and turns weaved into a well thought and planned story. There’s no pretense and romance was well balanced and done entirely correctly with properly distributed amounts of hints, behaviors and incredible, undeniable chemistry. Predictability is at an all-time low. With the exception of series based books that follow the same path but are just as good. Overall, Favorite, must read again, recommend!!!

Every time Lisa B Kamps writes a hockey romance, she SHOOTS, she SCORES and this one is no exception. Shoot out is filled with heat and hockey players so it already has two things going for it! Throw in an opposites attract story with Mat and Nichole and the story is off the charts. Good guy Mat breaks free of his 'perfect' image and has a one night stand, but he can't stop the feeling that it could have been more. Nichole has had a past relationship that turned out to hurt her physically and emotionally and isn't willing to just trust anyone. These two both have their issues to work through, but they may just be the best things that happened to each other. This Banners series is soooo good and I have loved every single one of them! The characters are multi-dimensional and seem so very real. The stories keep your interest throughout!
Although a good story it wasn't my favourite so far.
I liked Mats a lot but I felt Nicole was a little predictable. But Saint Mats was super hot
My view is tainted because I couldn't understand how they met. Yes, she was in New Orleans but she wasn't with Bethany. Even Bethany described her as an acquaintance so she wasn't there for Bethany's boyfriend's friend's pre wedding trip. She did the even know them. So that was odd.
I also didn't find this book that stand alone as I hadn't read Derek and Bethany's novella (didn't know it existed) so I found bits hard to follow.
However Lisa Kamps is creating a wonderful series and you can't love everything. Def recommended as part of the series
Mat is a nice guy with the team reputation of being a “Saint,” an image that for some reason bothers him. Personally, I love that in a world full of hot shot athletes who hop from puck bunny to bunny, Kamps presents an athlete with standards. The character is an interesting change from the swinging narcissists often prevalent in fiction. I only wish more exposition was provided because here is a man that seems too perfect to be true.
You don’t have to read the preceding books in the series. However, I do recommend them. Thank goodness for Kindle Unlimited because I’ve been binging this series like Hot and Ready Krispy Kreme donuts. Yum!
Good Story.. While it involves hockey players it is written during the off season so no hockey involved.
Mat or as his teammates call him "The Saint" is in New Orleans for a bachelor/bachelorette party.. He runs into Nicole at a bar but she also happens to know one of his teammates gfs and is from the same city he is.. Can this one night stand between the saint and the bad girl turn into more? Can her past hurt them
While this is book 7 in the Baltimore Banner series it can totally be read as a stand alone..
I am a big fan of Lisa Kamps and The Baltimore Banners series with characters so real they come to life in a captivating plot that takes me over as soon as I start reading and stays with me after I've finished the book. Shoot Out centers around Mat Herron, also known as Saint Mat by his teammates, and Nicole Taylor, who works as a bartender in a strip club. Their unlikely romance is full of emotional ups and downs, family drama, and sizzling intimacy. Another winner in this great series. I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Score another hot steamy romance in the Baltimore Banners series. Mat truly is a saint, a hot as well hockey player, but a saint non the less. Mat meets Nicole in a chance encounter. Sparks fly however Nicole slips away leaving Mat wanting. Nicole is struggling to put her past behind her. Mat wants to support Nicole encouraging to chase her dreams. This story touches on real life issues while incorporating sex, love, and happily ever after!
Love the Banner boys! These players know how to love
Mat was tired of being the "Saint". He hated the nickname. It was time for him to love to prove to his team mates they were wrong about him. Nicole was finally free from her past or so she thought. She celebrated her freedom with a one night stand, or was it? Does Mat fall for his one night that is suppose to prove to the team he isn't the Saint they think he is?
Totally different from all the books in this series! it really blew me away how deep and powerful this story was.. how the characters faced many challenges, but came out them stronger than they were.. the story was carefully written adding the necessary details! I can't wait for more books in this series!
This book is so good, another great one in this series! The opening chapter is so hot and steamy and the rest of the book is great too! I was dying of laughter at the end of this book! Great story, I wish we would have gotten a little more insight into her situation but after all know I'm glad she got out and "Saint Mat" was there for her.
Super cute story with great character depth. I laughed many times at the banter among the teammates in this book. There were tough parts to read that dealt with abuse and I think the author did an amazing job letting the heroines story unfold and develop while not making it the entire story. Well written!
I really liked the story of Mat and Nicole. It showed how many women are abused and live in fear for their lives. I especially liked Nicole, She was a talented woman who never dreamed that she could achieve her goal but with courage and Mat's love, she was able to follow her dream. A very good romance.
