This book is a work of art. This is the lords magnus opus, gods moby dick, the pinnacle of society, when the capybara farted i couldnt hold back my gushing tears. The emotional roller coaster is unmatched i cried laughed than cried again. The world building was on the level of the greats like game of thrones and lord of the rings, but the character development is unmatched in today's literature. I could not stress this enough this is the best book to ever grace this earth.

Astounding, beautiful, a one of a kind book. this book has a way to describe how it feels to be different. The ending is so beautiful. I can't believe Carlos is able to learn how to swim AND he is able to help the other capibaras by planting the seeds.🤯🥺 so wonderful and inspiring. it's also easy to read and understand. this is a 10/10 book. 💯💯

This book is PHENOMENAL!!!! This is better than the Lord himself. The boots have me on my knees crying. This book had me sobbing again and again. This should be rewarded with a reward bigger than anyone's head. Carlos you are my savior and my whole heart and soul. I love you <3

I had to read this for Spanish and honestly it was kind of boring. It was interesting at first but after a while I just wanted it to end. It kept repeating the same things over and over again.

El Capibara Con Botas was a great short read for someone who is starting to learn Spanish. Carlos, a capybara that can’t swim well, tries to figure out how to swim better but has a whole different adventure while on his journey. He meets some new friends, a monkey, iguana, and llama. A part I really loved was when the shark was about to eat the money but Carlos saved him. I liked reading this book because of how easy it was to understand it even though I was intermediate in Spanish at the time. Readers who are beginning or intermediate at Spanish would love this or just someone who loves fiction.

I really wanted to love this story because it was recommended to me by a couple fellow teachers. It has a cute concept, but I was just not into it. I actually enjoyed the factual information more at the end of the book. Maybe I'll read it again and see if I like it more the second time.

A masterful dramatization of the prejudice the Capybara species face within the jungles of Ecuador. Mira Cancion expertly crafts a story that will captivate even the most disinterested and apathetic audience in an easy to read format. You may believe this tale is merely fictional but is grounded on hard scientific evidence; Capybaras are often verbally abused and shot by Los Pumas, a gang that has repeatedly shot up the amazon jungle and has caused mass deaths due to their violent drug trafficking behavior. However, I did find the pumas' portrayal as capybara-eaters as racially unflattering- not all pumas are violent creatures, and Canion clearly has a bias against the puma community while glazing the anaconda community which she portrays as benevolent saviors. I am merely nitpicking at this point; this is a work of art that would make Shakespeare tremble in his medieval boots, send Tolstoy and Dostoevsky running back to St. Petersburg, and make Steinbeck aroused instantly from how good the writing is. It is work that is unparalleled for its time and is a genre-setting masterpiece that will be talked about for centuries to come.

I find it disturbing that the moral of the story is that one should conform to societal pressures. Carlos was not intented to be able to swim well, but he fought and he fought until at the end, he could magically swim because of his special boots. These boots are not special. These are the boots that push conformity and cause even the most unique soilders to crumble at the feet of society. Through other lenses this reads as a cry for help. The repition of Carlos being unable to swim suggests that the author may be drowning in the currents of domestic abuse. Carlos' father is repeatedly described as cruel, and is always seen verbally berating his son. The mother, acts as an absent sort of figure, who is described as kind, but does nothing to end Carlos' suffering. The reader is put through the emotional turmoil of a lifetime, experiencing Carlos' excruciating lows and his pleasurable highs when he plants the turtle's seeds. 10/10 would reccomend to any transcendentalist. If I was in college this book would be my thesis statement.

Forget Don Quixote or Moby Dick. Capibara con Botas was the literary ride of my life. This epitome of literature makes Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes look like preschool scribblers.

Mira Canion’s Magnus Opus explores the theme of man vs. society and reflects the struggle of social norms and the marginalization that capybaras face. This is demonstrated best the main character Carlos farted. However, the Carlos and the selfless monkey overcome the threats faced by the capybara community, in an inspirational ending. (I was overcome with emotions and went through an entire box of tissues)

Easily the greatest adventure novel.

1.75 I was assigned this book for Spainish class and the plot was absolutely non existent and the characters felt very flat often we are directly told one personality trait for the character and it is repeated over and over the llama as a character was possibly a bit unnecessary. I’m just glad I finished it I only gave it .75 up because now I know the word “palmeadas” .

Excellent easy reader for novice-mid students. My 5th graders love it and watching brand new students acquire Spanish through TPRS is incredible. I recommend this book to anyone looking to improve proficiency at the novice-mid level.

THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD!! I loved reading this book for my Spanish class and I think that anyone who is learning Spanish should read this book because it is AMAZING. the characters are awesome and the character development is also amazing. Carlos is a super fun, kind, and entertaining main character and things happen in the book that makes sense for the plot (**cough, cough, looking at you Berto**). I love this book and I would recommend this to anyone who is learning Spanish, wanting to learn Spanish, or someone who just wants a fun and short read!!
