The Legend of Erwand

Rate this book
From the outside, Ehrien Gordon is just a normal girl. If you took a closer look you’d know about Ehrien’s hallucinations, about the things only she sees, hears and feels. If you were brave enough to get close, you would wish you hadn’t.

Through a chance encounter and a misstep, Ehrien learns her hallucinations are real. And with that knowledge she is forced to accept that her past and all she has ever believed to be true are lies. With that knowledge Ehrien finds herself in a war between two worlds, the world she calls her home and the world that is her home.

Struggling to understand just how powerful she really is, Ehrien finds herself falling deeper and deeper into a world of shadows she is unable to control. One that will eat her alive if she fails to. How far is she willing to go to save them? To save everyone? Even if, in the end, she cannot save herself?

This thick baby with a beautiful cover narrates the story of a normal girl, Ehrien Gordon. Or, shall I say, a girl who looks normal? She gets hallucinations like, dude💀
Something happens in her life that completely upends her existence. She now understands or shall I say she finally realizes, that magic does exist and that those hallucinations were not just her brain working extra hard after all. She is brought to this other world, which is entirely unfamiliar to the one she truly knows. Which is understandable since she was completely unaware of magical things. The series' first novel focuses mostly on her self-discovery and excellent romance. The storyy was absolutely amazing, and writing was easy to understand.

I'm not done yet but I wanted to record my impressions as I go each day. I made it to chapter 16, 110 pages last night and I'm hooked. I really enjoy Ehrien (I've been pronouncing it eh-wren internally) as a MC. There is so much going on already, there's been laughter and tears. I've picked up on a lot of familiar vibes, that remind me of other works but don't come off feeling too fan fic or copied. I'll elaborate on some of these specific passages in my final review. I like the pacing and there's a comfortable variance to it with some parts pulling me along faster and some more like a mental rest stop. No spoilers yet but I'm if it will stay that way, back to reading...

I managed to make significant progress with this book, but I don't find myself particularly captivated by it. While it contains a lot of information, it never seems to reach a point of genuine significance. Initially, the story was quite engaging and moving at a good pace, but there came a juncture where it gradually slowed down, inundated by more and more details. Additionally, it feels like I've invested 500 pages into a slow-burn romance that extends far beyond being simply slow. There's a lack of real development between the characters – just a few conversations that ultimately lead nowhere. Somewhere around the 400-page mark, a sense of impatience started to creep in, but I was reluctant to abandon it. Although I had hoped to enjoy this read, I believe it's time for me to set it aside for now. I'll return to it when I'm confident that it won't trigger a reading block.
