While visiting Knoxville's McKay's during grad school, I came across this book. Although I'd learned piano as a child and the baritone horn in junior high, I hadn't found an instrument to play with friends in a band or just sitting around having fun. The harmonica gave me that instrument.
The book guides you step-by-step into learning cross-harp techniques. If you want to play any kind of American music - blues, Jazz, country - cross-harp is a must. Of course, learning is one thing; practicing is another. I found myself with plenty of practice time on a cabin porch in Ohio. Practicing provides confidence and consistency.
I don't claim to be an expert, but I've now played in Knoxville, Little Rock, Richmond, Charleston and New Orleans, i.e. I can hold my own. Gindick's book led me that way and I'm grateful.
I must reread and use this, but I'll have to find a new copy, since mine from 1980s is gone. Klutz Press keeps this in print, bagged with a real harmonica, I think a Hohner. Highly recommended.
