Micah Sheridan thinks his life is over when he is sentenced to twenty-five years in Riker’s island for a crime he did not commit. Not even out of his teens yet and the innocent boy is thrust into a world filled with the worst kinds of human predators. Like prey about to be devoured, Micah fears for the worst… until one man steps in between him and the other inmates. Reid Turner claims the boy for his own. He draws a line in the sand around him that none of the others dare cross, for Reid is at the top of the food chain at Riker’s. But what is the cost of the powerful man’s protection? What does he want from young Micah? Is the boy’s life truly over, or has it only just begun?
Read on to find out! This story by Amelita Rae will warm your heart and remind you of the power of true love to bring hope to even the darkest places.
Amelita Rae took a wrong turn on the internet one day. All the innocent young lass wanted to do was watch funny cat videos, but then she discovered Boy's Love and that was the end of any worthwhile contribution she might have otherwise made to the world.
She now spends most of her time writing filthy smut that she tries to frame with farfetched plots and deranged characters, but don't be fooled by her bullshit people, its all just smut.
The beginning of this book was pure Amelita, but then it took a dive into some overly long lectures on prison reform, and underdeveloped teenage brains. I felt like I was back in class. Should I be taking notes? Will there be a test at the end?
“In the 1980’s when the War on Drugs started, there was a massive boom in the prison population. State governments were unable to get funding for new prisons from the voters so they turned to private investors. Private investors built the prisons and signed contracts with the States that promised them as much as $25,000 a head every year and a 90% occupancy rate. The prison population has been booming in this country ever since.
This goes on and on and on throughout the book. I’m not disagreeing with any of the information, but I thought I was picking up a fluffy gay prison romance…
Despite the many “lessons” throughout this story, I actually really loved these two characters and their interactions. Because of the age gap and lessons, it had a very Daddy feel to it.
Their first meeting The prison shower The nighttime cuddles The soft whispers The gifts of candy
Zero steam until about 85% in. Then there was only one incredibly beautiful, tender, smoking hot, sex scene that lasts PAGES. It was fabulous. I think readers that appreciate Amelita’s writing, will enjoy this story. Less sexual, more love than other novels I’ve read from her. No rape, no games, just a sweet connection.
Tears trickled from beneath his tightly shut eyelids and splattered on Reid’s sleeve, quickly wetting the fabric. He was afraid the older man would mock him for crying but he didn’t.
Reid’s hand moved up and began to stroke his hair and his temples gently, “It’s going be ok kid. You are going get through this.”
this had a lot of potential considering the prison setting and everything, but overall almost everything fell quite flat for me, even the smut.
everything was way too predictable and needed more spice. also some of the things that happened in this were straight up stupid.
the mcs were quite sweet together overall though, so that’s something! i do wish we got to see more of their first conversations in prison though, when they first got to know each other!
Well this one was cute and sweet not at all what I was expecting but I enjoyed it. This was my first book by this author and I’m impressed by her writing. I was kinda surprised too by the emotional depth of this story, especially with the MC and considering they were both in prison.
This book is pretty much angst free nothing bad really happens and it did feel like everything was resolved too easily. It definitely had the potential to better, at least for me. Still I liked it enough it was a good light solid read. I’m keeping my out for more of this author.♥️
I love how Reid started to fall in love with Micah prior to the misfortune in his family. The playing of twists and turns on Micah's emotions and how he started to have feelings for Reid was incredibly and cleverly written. I really really love how Reid took care of Micah even to the minute details even though he pretended like he didn’t give a shit. Like how he’d always give Micah sweets and chocolates because he knew the boy had a serious “sweet tooth”. That was indeed cute and sweet.
This book is slow burn and more about story and how two desperate souls fall in love with each other in the darkest corner of the world. You won’t get Miss Rae's usual work of Yaoi lusty smuts. I do have to say though, although it’s slow burn, it’s one hell of erotic foreplays.
I tremendously and thoroughly enjoyed this book and the twist in the HEA made me smile.
Well done Miss Rae!!! 👏👏👏 Well deserved 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
First: only one sex scene! I mean... What the hell? That is not what I read yaoi for.
Second: not enough time in prison, they were out by 60% which wasn't why I read a prison story. I did like Reid's protectiveness of Micah and that it was done in a very no-strings-attached kind of way but..... I wanted to see some action in the showers, or at least their cell.
Third: Reid is like this super bad super evil crime lord and he completely changes his ways and views the day he sees Micah.... Ah no. Either give a crime lord who wants to love and protect his lover while still being a bad guy or give me a good guy who was wrongly accused or something. You can't be completely amorale and then this perfect knight in the space of days.
Fourth: weird statistic dumps throughout the story about US prisons and laws. I don't know if any of it was accurate and while it would be interesting to research, I don't want that much info in my romances.

Leave it to me to pick the fluffiest, most romantic, least realistic "prison" romance book...especially when I was searching for dark and gritty. Oh well.
I did like how the author pulls no punches when it comes to the need for criminal justice reform. Kids locked up with hardened criminals after being tried as adults, the overworked defense attorneys, the inherent unfairness of the plea bargain racket/scam & prosecutors using it padding their "win" stats (I'm looking at you Kamala), the prison industrial complex profit machine that exploded in size as a result of mandatory minimums and 3-strike laws (which even the Dems were on board with, sadly), and how felons are treated in and out of jail with a lack of funding for education or rehabilitation...
All things I am already passionate about (felon disenfranchisement my "fighting" plank on Bernie's platform when I was a county/state delegate) but it was nice to see it in print elsewhere.
I thought this would be lots of dirty talks and rough sex. That's what I had in mind when it comes to prison love. Hmm, guess I'm a perv huh? But this is actually good too. It was so sweet. Reid was being a gentleman taking his time to earn his place in Micah's heart.
Ok, so here's the skinny. This could really be a five star story. The writing is solid, easy-to-read, feel good, and sweet. There is zero angst. This is a curl up with a cup of hot chocolate, on a rainy day, kind of read. Added to that, it is extremely educational and passionate about the corrupt, for-profit US prison system, and about prison reform. What derails this story is that if there was a predictable trope that was not included, it was probably because the author forgot.
- Larger, brawnier, older protective top - check, - Tiny (more than a foot height difference), skinny, pale, pretty blonde, barely legal bottom - check - Feminine features, feminine-ish body, prettier than a woman - check (I get that these are all standard Yaoi) - Total protection, complete with gifts and gentleness without asking for sex in return - check - Bottom has a tiny, baby penis - again, pretty much almost a woman - check - Top has ridiculous power and position both inside and outside the prison - check - Clear path to freedom - don't want to spoil - check - Complete cessation of all criminal activity for his boy - check - Hokey post prison ambitions.... - That are easily accomplished sans obstacles - check - Of course one character is the head of the class (valedictorian) - check - AND to top off the corniness, it wouldn't be complete without a
It was just too much!! On the one hand, the author gave the story so much depth with all her research, and Reid's back story; on the other it all got negated because of the abundance of overused tropes. If the revelations at 77% don't have you rolling your eyes, HARD, the stuff after that will. The start of the book was strong. It was unrealistic and fantastical, but you could roll with it because hey, sometimes you just want an angst free, feel-good read, but then it just descended into hokesville. I will say that each instance of something that seems totally ridiculous is explained as you go on, so pretty much if you stick with the story you'll get why stuff is happening but the whole thing just ends up being too saccharine by the end.
By the time the characters actually have sex, the anticipation was gone for me. It ended up reading like a biology lesson and 'anal sex step-by-step', with everything explained with almost clinical precision. Oh! In my trope list I forgot that AND because . I am SO not kidding. It's like there was a checklist and nothing was left out.
This author is clearly talented, and really this book was cruising at four stars for me until it just got totally ludicrous. I'll go with 3 stars....though I understand the five star ratings, just as much as I understand the two star ones. I would absolutely read this book again cause I love me a prison romance and Reid and Micah are beautiful together. But I'd probably stop at around 75%.
This is a weird book. I liked it but it was a strange ride. First of all, for as dark as it is, the love story is a sweet slow burn. Very, very slow. This is not an erotic romance. It is high fantasy in terms of a super rich crime boss hero who can save and shelter his love. There is some idea here of the older hero being in a Japanese Mafia but that isn't really explored in a way that makes sense.
Then, mixed in, is a social justice read with looks pretty deeply and carefully at the need for criminal justice reform. Those parts are well written too.
The younger hero hold his own with the older hero as well. They talk a lot. Its cool and hot.
So, this is a can of madly wonderfully mix of smutty (without much smut) prison romance with a satisfying macro thoughtfulness folded in. I read this super happy fast.
However, I needed a bit more HEA time. We get a solid HEA but I want to hang out and be with them outside of prison for a few chapters.
DNF 40%. When I finished reading the first two chapters, I jumped off my bed and did a little happy dance and screamed GIRL DID YOU READ MY MIND!!! And then I sat back down to continue reading and soon afterwards felt sorely disappointed. First couple of chapters were about Micah’s first day and night in prison DELICIOUS, and then you fast-forwarded to months later when they’ve fallen in love with each other already??!? No, my lovely Amelita, noooooo! That’s lazy fucking writing. Have you never heard of show don’t tell? NOOOOOOOOOOO. And I thought you said this is porn with a little plot? Well there was a lot of plot I didn’t care about unfortunately. WHERE WAS MY SMUT?!!! Whyyyyyyyyy. And the separation (admittedly short and not angsty)???? I can’t handle that!! I didn’t pick up your book on a lovely Sunday afternoon to cry! But cry I did. This was my first book of this author but I will not give up on your books, Amelita. I love my Yaoi
Time of death:10% I added this to my TBR during my prison phase. I didn’t like the writing style, third person narration and sometimes it felt like I was reading the MC’s inner thoughts but other times it felt like I was reading from an outside perspective and how others viewed the MC and it just didn’t work for my brain. I also didn’t like that the MC was referred to as a “teen” and then “boy” instead of just using his name since this is third person after all.
Yes, I understand “boy”is in the title 🤡 Why do I keep trying out these daddy/boy tropes if I don’t like them? Cos I like the caretaking part so if it’s easy to skim past the parts I don’t like then I’ll keep reading 🤡
This was the first book that I've read by this author and if it tells you anything as soon as I finished this one the other day I went back and read all her other books too. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and her take on what has come to be a rough genre. I have skipped over a lot of "prison romance" stories lately because so much of it is too hard for me to enjoy the romance. Well done characters and a fun twist at the end. I can't wait to read more by this author.
If you want a smutty prison romance, then this is not the book for you. Barely anything happens while they're in prison. The first and only sex scene is at the 85% mark.
If you want a light & fluffy romance, where a really bad guy becomes a really good guy due to the magic of insta-love, then this is the book for you.
Also recommended for those interested in the unfairness of the judicial system. There's several pages to read about that, to the point where you feel like you're back in school again. (No thanks. I skipped it).
Overall, I'm disappointed because it didn't fit what I was looking for. The writing is decent, just not the story I wanted to read.
Ummm, this started out good and then went downhill fast. Like idk why it hit me but the scene where he asks him how old he is and he says “juth turned 18” with a mouthful of candy was so emotional for me, this baby was thrown to the wolves. I loved everything up until they both got released and then it was like their personalities changed, I didn’t like how his parents were portrayed, and I especially didn’t like how he was secretly this billionaire idk, the whole last part of the boom didn’t work for me. Also the grandstanding and info dumping about the prison system didn’t work for me either
Oh Gosh, how I still feel overloaded by sweetness over this book. The romance is cheesy like mostly yaoi story but I really love this one. I seldom consumed yaoi story nowadays but this book makes me nostalgic, back at when I first fell in love with yaoi. Not to mentioned those doki doki feelings XD The inmates couple Micah and Reid simply make me head over heel with them. Can't get enough of them and definetely need more sex scene, which is so lack because Reid being overly gentleman from the start. And now I'm officialy become a fan of prisoner love story *sigh*
4 Stars I think this is my fave so far. I liked how both Reid and Micah showed their strengths and weaknesses. Their story was a bit longer so the world-building and how the growth of each character was enough. It was definitely hot when they got together eventually for all the right reasons. I really liked it.
I'm a little bummed, but I'll give you the details anyway. Bummed, because the book has the makings of a 5* book. But it just didn't go there.

💚prison romance 🌞Age gap - almost 20 years 🌺low angst 💗hea
This story is about Micah and Reid, one being 17 and convicted, and Reid, around 40 years old, a prisoner, and their journey through the prison system and to their happy ever after.
These were my visuals.
Micah
Reid
Micah is sent to an adult prison, because he was silly enough to have been with his "friends" in a meth lab, where they killed a cop, fled, and he, shocked and completely innocent, stayed there.
His parents are poor and couldn't afford a private lawyer, so Micah is sent to a high security prison for 25 years. He's 17, almost 18 years old.
Now, Micah is a small, petite guy. He's effeminate, he has long legs, slim waist, thin arms and shoulders. He's blonde, blue eyed, his face is pretty. So naturally, the prison boys want some.
Scared and shaking, he awaits his fate, when a tall, muscled, dark moody and broody prisoner comes from his cell and claims him. Everyone fears this guy, everyone steps aside and Micah follows him to his cell.
In a few months time they develop a friendship, where they stay in the same cell, they work out together, shower together, eat, watch tv, play cards and also sleep together, because the prison has no heating. But Micah doesn't mind. He also doesn't mind when in sleep, Reid goes on top of him and starts kissing his neck. Reid always apologises and Micah takes it as it is, they're in prison, the circumstances are as they are, Reid is celibate all the time, so it's a natural reaction. I will say that Reid never takes advantage, even though Micah sees that Reid is clearly attracted to him.
Abruptly, things change. Micah finds out that Reid served his sentence and is free to go. Reid comforts him that he'll have protection and Reid will help him appeal his case and set him free.
Up until this point, when Reid leaves and Micah stays there alone for a couple of weeks, I loved the book. Even though the author messed it up a bit when Reid and Micah were talking about the american prison system, it felt like reading an article. But I loved it.
When Micah is set free is where it all went down the drain for me.
It was just TOO EASY.
The appeal, going out of prison, Micah having his parents there, Reid being a mafia kingpin, but at the same time this overly sweet and nice guy. I just didn't feel it, he wasn't interesting and attractive anymore. Although I hate angst, there should have been at least some. A little bit of mistery. But instead, Micah just moved in.
I could understand if he had no place to go, but he did have a family. But he wanted to see and be with Reid, which is fine, but Reid should have kept him at arm's length a little bit longer.
Them coming together was just not doing it for me. It was missing something and I can't tell you what that was. If you want to feel like this is that one, true love story, you have to have a little bit of drama and angst, so you ball your eyes out when reading, can't stop thinking about the two when you eat and then can't wait to come back for more.
The book ended with them having sex for the first time. Just that and it was over. Sue me if I wanted to read about them living together, waking up together and going out together.
Epilogue - I loved the fact that the author included the epilogue, but it was 7 years after. Now, don't get me wrong, I love epilogues with that time difference, only I don't think Reid is the kind of a guy that waits 7 years to marry the love of his life.
We didn't get more than one hot night with them together. Not enough spice, not enough of THEM.
Man, I was in LOVE with this book for the first half.
Sure, the writing was a little weird, because it did this really weird thing that I usually only see in bad fanfiction where characters are refered to as "the blond boy", "the older man" etc. even though you know their names. I found it kinda jarring that, even though most of the book is from Micah's perspective, there would be phrases like "the sweet boy" refering to Micah himself? That was just a little weird and inconsistent, but I could deal with that.
I really liked Micah and Reid's dynamic from the very beginning. Big protective prison husband who refuses to take advantage if the smaller, younger guy? Sign me the fuck up. Unfortunately, as soon as that dynamic changed , I was suuuper bored. Don't get me wrong, I really liked the discussions they had about the prison and justice system and how that related to both main character's stories, but the story just kind of deflated after the halfway point. There were also a couple of really unrealistic and unbelievable events that took place in the second half that just made me shake my head.
So, because the second half was just really boring and kind of unbelievable to me, I couldn't really enjoy the romance at all. The reason why Reid kind of had a change of heart also made me roll my eyes super hard. Anyway, I am willing to read more from this author, because I thought the premise and the first half were really strong.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed this. I wasn't sure about it by the cover... I'm usually a "judge a book by it's cover" kinda finder... That, with the yaoi, for some reason I thought it was going to be some type of Japanese hentai pornie kinda book...shame on me, it was actually a somewhat educational love story... This author done her research and I didn't know of all the injustice; I've never been in trouble before so I never had to think about even half the things I was educated about in this book. While i found some of it somewhat unbelievable, it wasn't enough to take away from the story. I admired Reid for how he took Micah under his wing, I admired that he didn't do anything with him for the reasons that he didn't and I loved the way they loved each other. It was obvious for Micah but Reid didn't let on until they both got out. My heart broke for Micah in the beginning and for the other guys who were made to be someone's prison wife or do things unwillingly.... I thought that part was gonna bother me, and it did for a second, but when Reid put his hand over Micah's ear to drown it all out.... that was the first time I thought of how easy it would be to fall for Reid.... and i'm glad Micah did... Overall, great story... very informative and a very happy ending.... I'm glad I gave it a chance!
It read like a 2009 fanfic and what’s up with the random ass statistics word vomit??? I thought I was reading some prison romance/kinky book not sitting on a lecture??
This was just a boring mess. And the insta romance coming from a guy that’s been straight his entire life?? Yeah. No.
PS: Yes, prisons do have dentists. Maybe not full time and they are crappy and only there for emergencies but they do have them. The author did all of that unnecessary random research but she couldn’t research THAT?. She just grabbed the nearest statistics from wikipedia, copy and pasted and moved on.

So I’ve been in the mood lately to read romances in a prison setting (because I love the angst) and this one came up a lot during my search.
After reading it, I can say it was just ok. I really did like Reid and Micah a lot, but things honestly came too easy for them. There is a heap of unrealistic moments in this book, and those looking for smut may be disappointed.
